I love to learn and teach. I am a free-spirited creator, and have been traveling the world as a digital nomad for over three years. My courses focus on selling art online, energy work, and music. I teach what would help a younger me, including the strategies I used to sell over 20,000 copies of my artwork without paid advertising, energy techniques I have learned to unlock human potential, and tips to help musicians.

My Life

I grew up in Maryland, and I am currently slow traveling the world thanks to selling art and teaching online. I plan to keep traveling, creating, and learning from this amazing planet as long as I live!

1. Introduction: hello and welcome to this course on finding free thoughts. In this course, I will not only show you where you can get free fonts, but how to use them and keep them for up. We'll talk about many different license sings of these spots in a way that is simple and easy to understand. We'll go through an abundance of sites to find free fonts, so you always have plenty of choices for a new project. We're also gonna talk about how to save your funds so you don't lose them when migrating to a new computer or working at school, the office or anywhere in the world. As a bonus, I'll show you how to keep your fonts handy in the adobe. Illustrator, Come with me, guys. Let's find some awesome resource is to enable us as creators. Thanks for watching. See inside 2. Font Licenses: Let's talk about font licensing now there's really only two things you need to worry about . Is it personal use or is it commercial? Ease? Personal use means that you can use it for anything that you want, as long as you're not getting money from so some examples that they give on thoughts based website. Talking about this is scrapbooking. Graphic design for personal websites, blog's etcetera, flyers or invitations to friends and family churches, charities or non profit organisations. Or making T shirts for yourself or your friends at new charge. Commercial uses anything that you make money from, or anything involved in making. So a flyer or poster for an event that charges admission would require a commercial use, fought text or graphics in the books, printing T shirts you sell or any other product and graphic design work. So if it's for client or anything like that, any time that you're getting paid, you need to use commercial use spots. Here you can see some of the different licenses for thoughts as well as if they correspond to personal use only, or commercial lease, which includes personal use. On this side, you'll see some terms that you're going to run into so GPL CREATIVE Commons by attribution attribution NONCOMMERCIAL attribution NEW DERIVATIVES Sharer Noncommercial shareware Public domain demo Freeware Freeware Commercial use requires donation. Freeware noncommercial. Personally, I recommend that you always go for commercial use fonts. If there's any chance you might use this down the line for a commercial purpose by stocking your computer with commercial use. Pontes You'll know that any time you need to use a font, you don't have to look it up and figure out whether it's personal or commercial use. You'll know that you will be allowed to use a sponte and any other font on your computer. So for commercial use thoughts, we need a freeware public domain. S I L Open Pot license Creative Commons attribution Share like GPL Creative Commons by attribution CREATIVE Commons attribution No derivatives Apache License Post cattle card Where design software licence, gust fought license Batu fought license 1.0 or L GPL license in order to not worry about whether or not we could use this spot. So keep in line with looking for Fox. Is this commercial use or not? 3. Finding Fonts: All right, guys, here is the fun part. We're going to talk about all the awesome places where we can find free commercial use fonts on the Internet. We're going to start off with my personal favorite bond space dot com Now, start off. Boss Base has aton of different categories. So let's go to futuristic. You can see once you get here that you have the fonts down here and you can put in a custom display and it will remember it. So I type this in in another take that I did so put in something new. You'll see up here that I have the option to only show commercial use spots. And this is great because you won't be tempted to download fonts that aren't commercial free and use them in your work up here, you see that we have an option to only show commercial use fonts. So you'll feel safe knowing that all the fonts that you're looking at you can use and you won't get that disappointment of finding a really cool fun and then finding out you have to pay for it. You can adjust the size of the font right here, so you can really get a feel for it. You could also do something which is really powerful on this site, and that is add to favorites. So let's find one I actually want to add to Favorites System is pretty cool and just click at favorites, and then you can add it to any of these groups for at a new group. So I'm gonna add it to future Flo. Favorite added. Now we can find these anytime by clicking this little heart up here so we never lose our faults. You could also click this random thing and find random fonts, which is pretty fun, and you can click new, which is one of my favorite ways to find fonts, because you know you're getting things that haven't been used much. So look at this. This is just a beautiful fought and it's it's brand new. It says it right there, and you can add it to your favorites, and it's gonna go to the head and display thoughts and bear. Now it's saved. It's a part of my collection forever. Movie God. Let's go to Google Fonts and Google fonts is it's by Google. It's immensely popular. Ton of people use it. It's great for Web design. It's great for pretty much anything. So once again you can do things to the fonts. You can change the display, but only on a performance basis. Boring. But the sponsor really high quality. They have lots of options in the family's lots of funds from the families, and they're all really super high quality stuff. And it's got an interesting way to download. You can just Adam, too. You're selection on and then click right here and hit Download there. And then it's got a little thing about sky fonts, which we're gonna learn about in a later lesson. But it's a way to sink fonts across computers. All right, cool. Moving on. We have lots squirrel. Now this is a very popular site. It's been around for a while, eventually popular with Web developers and the like bots. Quarrel has only commercial free fonts, and they've got a pretty good collection of, So check it out. Whatever you see you can use, go ahead and grab it. It's yours moving on. We have another popular site called 1001 fonts, and they have a lot more than that It's similar to fought space in that you can customize your display and you can change the size. And also you can only show commercial free fonts. If you what. So that's all very cool. It's a very fun place to find fonts. It's almost as good as Spahn Space, but not really. And finally, we have the ugly cousin of fought websites, and that is defunct and you've probably been to de font. You've probably heard of it. Your teacher, your mother, everybody knows. Probably heard of this for some reason. I don't know why it's it's super popular and they've got Great S CEO, apparently. But yeah, there's a Thoma fonts here. It's been around for a while. It hasn't had a design upgrade in decades, and it's a fought website. You're gonna have to look at individual ones to see if they are free for commercial use or not. It's not very user friendly of a website, but there's some cool stuff here, definitely worth checking out. If you've never been here and then never going to again, I know what you're thinking. I know what you're thinking, Doug, this is great, but I want to make my own fonts from my soul. There are many ways to do this, and it's a very laborious process. I know what you're thinking, but, Doug, I want to make funds from my soul without much effort. Well, you can try. Construct box truck has a great online software that allows you to create your own fonts. Click up on Fox, trucked off, and then we're going to Neymar design Yaya. Yeah. Yeah, and we're going to start making our own fought. Now, this is super cool. You can choose the different sections of the font and then just start drawing Now, I've never actually done this to make a font, so I'm probably not the best person to teach you how to do this. But you could find tutorials on YouTube. 4. Other Places to Find Fonts: Let's look at a few other places, we might be able to find some really high quality thoughts. Let's start up with the hands now. The hands has all kinds of different things, and if you look around, you might be able to find some things for free. If you search for free fonts, you'll find a whole lot of different things, and you will have to investigate each one of these fully to make sure that they are free and also make sure that you can download them. They're not just showing off, but there are a lot of different things that you can get. Here is one free font here, very high quality. The next two sites are actually paid sites, but they offer a couple freebies, so the 1st 1 is the Hungry Jay Peak and the 100 J. Peg. It sells design Resource is, but if you go to the top, you'll see free beats, and they have a weekly freebie as well as a free font bundle. And weekly freebie is always commercial free, and it's good quality thoughts, so check him out. Next. We have created marketplace, and they do pretty much the same thing. They have free goods of the week, so you'll see that they have a couple fonts here, which are pretty cool. And finally, we have driven. If you're familiar with dribble, you probably don't think of it as a place to find free fonts. Artists on dribble showcase their creative skills on the website. This makes it a great place to find free funds because a lot of these artists are giving away their fonts for free. This is a site where you definitely need to make sure that you're finding a commercial free fought. It's kind of like diamond mining on the site, because you have independent, really good artists and you've got to be able to find the artist and then make sure that it's commercial free thought. But you can find things that are very unique and very beautiful. When you do strike gold, don't forget to search for free font to get started. Questionably, the best place to find free fonts is tight. Families type founders are companies that make or distribute thoughts. A lot of these fought foundries do have free commercial use spots. Some of them are even completely open source, meaning that all of their fonts are free for commercial use. So let's look at a few here. We have fought fabric, and they're really cool company. And if you look right here, they have a whole free section ban. Next, the League of Movable type. Now, this is the first open source bought boundary. Isn't that wonderful? We have a whole boundary of free commercial free fonts. And a lot of these I've used in many of my designs, particularly Austria stands really cool A blackout. Have you don't much, But league Gothic is really great. Really great font. So there's some great ones here. Definitely. Don't be afraid to get him all gettable installed on your computer. Next, we have lost type some great free funds here. Next, the open foundry. This is another open source foundry. So you can pretty much use whatever you find. Ban these air Really beautiful as well as beautiful displays. If you're looking form or foundries, a great place to start Istvan Squirrel. And if you go to fox, grow dot com slash boundaries. They have all of the foundries that they use on their site. So you know that these places have at least one free fought, and chances are they have more free funds that aren't listed on fonts for another place is the type kit dot com list of boundaries. So type kit dot com slash founders. Same thing, lots of different boundaries that you can choose from. So just pick one and then go there and say, Hey, bro, you got a free fonts If they're like Yo, I got you that you're good. 5. Installing Fonts: how to install the fonts. We have all the thoughts that we downloaded in this photo right here. So, first of all, you're going to need to unzip. Um usually they will come in a zipped format. There's several ways to install these fonts. If you confined the O. T. F or TTF file, all you need to do is double click it and hit install font. Alternatively, you could go to the fought book application, hit the plus button and then navigate to where the files are. So if we go to the desktop and then we go to farm fonts these funds and then you can dio to search by type. So we're gonna search for dot TTF name, matches dot TTF and bond funds, and we'll see that all the ones are here. So I have to do is open and then they installed. So that's a good way if you have a lot of fonts, because then you can just have a mole on your download folder extractable, then install um and then either zipline to save him or delete them. Another way to do it is to simply drag the TTF for O. T. F file into bond book that also works 6. Keeping Your Fonts: Alright, guys, I'm gonna show you a technique to keep all your fonts together in Adobe Illustrator, open up any document and what I like to do is I like to start with a lot of our boards. So here is my lot of our towards. Basically, the technique is we're going to drag out fonts and just let him sit in this little margin out here. Then, whenever we want to create a design, all we have to do is change the text and then start designing. Okay, Now you can see that we're done. We have a couple fonts up here, and I marked one n. C. Because it's really great fun. But I do not have the right to use it commercially, and I need to remind myself of that. So just another way to keep yourself organized. And you can also do this with any other elements you want to scatter around here. What? You have all these great fonts. You're going to want to make sure that you keep them with you. One possible way to do this is to get the O. T f and TTF files and then zip them into one file and then keep that on your Google drive or email to yourself. Something like that. This is a good way, but it doesn't allow much flexibility. So each and every time you're going to have to update that zip. Alternatively, you could just have a folder and Google drive where you keep all these. And then you just download the whole thing, unzip it and install it on whatever computer you're on. You could also use a font manager like sky fonts and sky fonts has partnered with Google to allow you to use it so you can install that right here. And then you can advance to your sky font library, and then they will show up in this little s, which is up here when you install sky funds. Another super easy way to make sure that you have your faults is two favorite them on want space. Bon space has most of the font you're gonna want. So go ahead and start throwing that hard on things. And then you can just access your favorites by clicking this hard up here. Yeah, you're gonna have to download them all again, but it's a good, full safe in case, everything else fails. Also, it's a great way for you to share your favorites. So if somebody is interested in your designs and you want to help the mountain going to say , Hey, bro, I got some cool fonts for you. You can just point them to your favorites and then they can pick out the fonts that they like. 7. Outro: thank you very much for taking this course. I hope you feel comfortable in finding fonts. Hope you feel comfortable in knowing if you could use it. And really, I hope that you're excited in all these free resource is that are available right at your fingertips to create. Because that's what we're doing here, man. We're creating things. And there's just so much plenty around in the form of fonts. And really, you can design a lot of stuff just with bonds. So get out there, get out your laptop and start designing. Thanks for watching. My name is Douglas James keeping off.
