1. Introduction and Supplies Needed for This Project: Hey, friends, how are you? I hope you're having a great T today. Today we will be creating this really cute owl princess sitting on a flower. So I wanted to go over the supplies in the materials that you will need for this project. The first thing that you'll need is a piece of paper. I'm using watercolor paper here. It's a nice, thick paper that holds water very well, so you'll want a thick paper. If you don't have watercolor paper, that's okay. Just choose a thick paper. The next thing that you will need our watercolor paints. I like to use this set because it has a lot of different colors in it. You will also need a permanent marker. Permanent means that it will not run, and it will not bleed into colors. If you put water on it, you will also need couple of clean water, and some people rushes. I have some different size paintbrushes here. I would suggest having a smaller one. I hope you concede at size of that Ah, smaller paintbrush because there's some detail work and then a larger brushes. Nice aura, midsize brush so you can get the larger areas. You'll also need some acrylic paint. I'm using white here. Huge would like to use a different color. That would be fine, and we need a guide for our eyes. It's to make nice around eyes so you can use a cop or even a piece of paper that you cut out that's round. It just helps make a nice round circle. You will also need a paper plate to use as your palate for your acrylic paint, and you will meet a handy dandy paper towel. Four messes and cleanups, and the last thing that you'll need is a mat to go underneath your work area. And what that does is it just keeps everything nice and clean. And it's easy when you're trying to clean up its easy cleanup with you with a mat. All right, friends I look forward to seeing in a minute
2. Step 1: Draw an Owl: all righty friends. So let's get started on our owl. The first thing that you want to do is grab your marker and your guide that you're going to use for your owl's eyes. And what we're going to do is place it a little bit above halfway up the paper. So here's the halfway point approximately. We're gonna put in a little bit about that and a little bit to the side. So I'm putting mine a little bit to the left side. I'm not placing it right in the middle. I'm putting it a little to the left, and what I'm going to do isn't going to carefully trace around this guide. So I'm going slowly, carefully because I want to do a really good job. There we go. The next thing that I'm going to dio is I'm going to move my guide a little bit to the right and a little bit over, so they're not exactly touching, but they are pretty close to each other now. The thing about it is, I'm not going to put this down. That's they're not going to be even with each other. I'm putting it a little bit up because I want my apple's had to be tilted just a little bit . All right? So I'm going to push that down with my finger, and I'm going to carefully go around my guide just like that. All right? Perfect. Now what we're going to Dio is we are going to go around this circle again, So I'm going to make another circle going around. It doesn't have to be perfect just like that. And I'm going to do the same thing on the other side. Now, this point they might touch, and that's perfectly fine. Now, on the inside of these circles, we're going to make smaller circles smaller, but not tiny. So smaller circles, but not tiny. Your circles might not look exactly like mine, and that's okay. Now inside thes two circles. What we're going to do is we are going to make a slightly curved line pretty much in the middle. So we start in the middle, we go up a little and we stop in the middle. Same thing on this side. Now, inside each of these circles, we're going to make his actual eyes. So it's like an upside down letter C and then his pupils just like that. And if you like to make some lines coming out from the peoples, I like to do that a lot with my owls. It's a little tiny lines just like that. Now, if you'd like to turn this into a girl owl, what you could do is you can add some eyelashes. That's what I'm going to dio or you couldn't keep it a boy out. It's up to you. So I'm going to make curve lines just like this, coming out from the island and same thing on the other side. And at the end of those eyelashes and going to make a small circle, Here we go already. The next thing that we're going to do is we're going to go above our eyes and we're going to connect them with the curve line starting in the middle here, going to the middle here just like that. And then on top of this, I'm going to make a crown. You could make a crown or you can leave the crown off, but I would like to show you how to make a ground just in case you want to make one say, make a tiny curve line, and then you make another curve line coming from the end of this line. Going up, doing the same thing on the other side, actually kind of looks like Jay's upside down jays, and then you come back in, come back in, and then you go up and up, and then you can put some little circles of the end. So that's a crown for our owl. If you'd like to decorate the crown, maybe put some small circles that's always cute or anything else that you'd like to decorate it with. What's a little horns here so kerf lining her blind? Now we're going to move down to our beak. So we made the curve light in in a curved line in coming to a point with a little couple of dots there. Alrighty. So that's basically the face of our owl, and we're gonna come back and put a little bit more detail in a little bit later. Alrighty. So what we're going to do now is we're going to come down and we're going to make the animal's body. So let me show you how to do that. So what, We're going to do first is we are going to create a shape that looks like this. It's actually a series of lines, and we're going to come a little bit to the left of our beak and we're going to make a series of curved lines like this, so notice that I'm attaching the curve lines and I'm kind of moving a little bit to the left, see how I'm doing not and moving to the left, and then I'm stopping short of the edge of our paper. Now what I'm going to do is I'm going to attach this to the line of her eye with, um it's kind of like a curvy line. It's kind of a tricky line to make, so watch what I do. It's almost like an elongated s. So I go out and then I come back in. No, if you look at this, looks like an ass, doesn't it? A really Long s now coming out from the side of this s we're going to start about right here, and we're going to attach it to the end here just like this. Now what we're going to Dio is we're going to double up this first curved line with the line that runs very close to it. See how I did that? And then I end up at the point. Alrighty. So what we're going to do now is we're going to make his tummy or her tummy. And what we're going to do is come from the bottom of this eye right here. And we're going to make the line really nice and curved that way that the owl can be nice and fluffy. Okay, if you'd like a skinny owl than what you would do is come closer to this wing. But I'd like mine to be nice and fluffy, so I'm going to come way out, and then I'm going to come back in, and at some point I'm going to touch the wing. All right, so I'm going to wait on the decoration of this particular area, and I'm going to go down to the flower that my owl is going to be sitting on. So I'm going to make a shape where it's a curved line, and then it comes down and it comes back up. All right, so it's a curved line. I ran into the into the wing So I pick up my marker and then I come back and I go like this . So it's basically a curved line that comes down and then it comes back up and then attached to this. I'm just going to make some pedals. Some nice and long pedals. They can either be touching each other where they don't have to touch each other. It's up to you. If you'd like your pedals to be super long, that can even go off the paper like this. So I'm going to go around going to go all the way around. Oh, that's a big, old fat one. Okay, coming back. And then I'm gonna end right there and then down here at the bottom, I hope you can see that on the video. But if not, basically what we're gonna do is we're going to come out to the side, and that's going to be the stem of our flower. Alrighty. So the next thing that we're going to dio is we are going to put a little bit of a design right here inside of our wing, and then later, after our painting dries, we're going to add some acrylic paint and make a lot more decoration on our owl. But for right now, we're going to go back up to the wing, and we're going to make a shape that looks like this. Unless you can think of a different shape that you like, just adds a little bit more detail. It's kind of a gloppy shape. And then on the edge of the wing, we're going to make ah sideways, you and then another sideways you alrighty. So listen, If there's anything else that you feel like you would like to add to your owl, drawing wise with your marker or your pencil, now is the time to do it. If not, then we will start painting our owl and putting a little bit of acrylic paint on it as well . So we'll be painting with watercolor paints in a little bit of acrylic paint as well, so we'll see you back here in a minute.
3. Step 2: Paint the Owl: all right, a friends. So I'm back and we're going to be working on painting our owl. So what we're going to do first is we're going to put a drop of water in each of the paint pans that you feel like that you might use. And what that does is that weeks up the paint. So it's important to get it awake so we can use it right away. Only put a drop of water in each one of our pay pants and then let that sit for just about a minute. And then those paints will be ready. So in the meantime, I'm going to kind of look at my owl, and I think what I'm going to do isn't going to pay her a reddish color. And then for the background, I think I'm going to use a purple. So if you'd like to use different colors, that's okay. You don't have to gives realistic colors because this is a cartoon, and so it's totally up to you. And sometimes when I'm choosing colors, I change my mind. So sometimes I'll start out with what I think that I'm going to be using the whole time and then I might change my mind. And that's okay. That's that's what happens sometimes when you're creating art. So I'm going to get started on my painting. I'm going to start with my animal first, and you can either watch me paint or you can. You can start on your own, your own pain T. And I'm going to speed up this video a little bit. That way you can either watch me or get started. It's completely up to you, so I'll see you back here in a minute. - Already . Friends, I'm back, and I'm really happy with the way that my owl looks so far. She's not finished yet. What we're going to do now is we're going to let her dry before we begin the next step. The next step is applying some white acrylic paint to our owl and to the background. The reason why acrylic paint works better than let's say you're white. Water color paint right here is because this water color paint is pretty transparent, which means that you can see through it, so if you apply it to a color, you're barely going to be able to see it at all However, if you use acrylic paint, this type of a paint is not transparent. It's a pick. So what that means is that you will not be able to see through the paint onto the paper or onto the color. So we're going to let her drive, and then when we come back, we will apply some acrylic paint seeing a bit.
4. Step 3: Add Detail to the Owl: already friends. So what we're going to do next is we're going to paint and dot some of this white acrylic paint onto our cute owl and onto the background. So what we're going to do is we're going to open up this paint and put a small amount on our paper plate or your palate, whichever you'd like to choose whatever you have available to you and we're going to choose a smaller paintbrush. So I think I'm going to choose this one right here. I'm going to make sure it's pretty dry because with acrylic paint you can use water. But for this particular project, I'm not going to use water because water makes it a little bit more transparent and we want it to be very opaque, which means we want it to be very solid in color, and we don't want it to be transparent. So I'm going to start by making some dots. I'm going to just put dots in areas that I feel like I want to put some dots. So what I'm going to do is, instead of using the tip of my brush, show you, which is pretty small, I'm going to use the end. So I'm going to dot end of my paintbrush into my paint. And then I'm just going to start using dots all over my painting wherever I feel like I want a dot of paint to be. And so I'm just going to speed up the video. And if you'd like to watch me, that's fine. Or if you'd like to get started on your own painting, that's fine as well. It's completely up to you. So I'm going to put several dots on this piece of paper in different places, and I'm going to use different patterns. Maybe I'm not even sure I'm just going to go along and start dot, dot dot ing. And then I will come back to you when I am finished to see in a minute already . Friends, I'm back. So I've done all the dots that I'd like to do for right now. I might come back and put a few more dots in after and finished with the other part of the design, so I'm just going to stop right there with my dots, and what I want to do is rinse the back of my paintbrush off, put it in the water and then wipe it off with my handy dandy paper towel because the water might not get all of it off. Now what I'm going to do is I'm going to use the tip and keep in mind this is a very small tip of a paintbrush. It's not like, let's say, this one, which would be fined he use if you want to have a design that's pretty thick. But for my design on my amble, I'd like the design to be fairly then. So I'd like to use a thin paintbrush. So what we're going to Dio is we're going to dip our paintbrush into the paint, and I am going to just start creating some sorely type lines. So let me show what I mean. So I'm going to go like this. We're all around and come back like this, swirl around and notice that if I have a very small paintbrush, it does not hold a lot of paint. So I need to do a lot of dipping. That's normal. It's normal to do a lot of dipping. Okay, that area looks good, so we're going to go maybe down here to the body body of our owl, and I'm just going to create some swirly lines, some curved lines. Just wherever I feel like I want to make a line. I'm going to do it. Keep in mind with art, you can do whatever you want. So my artwork is not going to look like yours. And that's actually a really good thing. We all want to be a little bit different, right? Right. So I'm going to speed up the video while I put these designs on here, and you can either watch me or you can get started. It's up to you. I'll be back in a minute already . Friends, I'm back. So I'm really liking the way that this is looking. I decided to put a few stars in the background because this is a nice guy with our Al sitting on the flower. It's kind of a darker shade of purple, so I wanted to put some bright stars on there. I think I'm going to do one more thing. I think I'm going to put a few more dots of paint on her body in between the difference worlds. So I'm going to do that right now that will create a little bit more detail. And the reason why I used the back of a paintbrush is because I can get a nice around circle are nice round dot I'm gonna spread these around. What do you think? I hope you like this project.
