1. 1. Introduction: Hello and welcome to career advancement coaching. My name is Kelvin Lim. I am the founder and master coach for Executive Coach International, and I've been coaching for nearly 20 years. I have had the experience of working with many amazing individuals from all walks of life, from people in corporations to own us toe entrepreneurs and two people who generally want to find ways to improve their lives. Having done coaching for 20 over years, it has been a fascinating journey to be ableto understand what makes people tick and what creates sustainability and how I could actually help them become more successful in career advancement. Coaching. I would like to talk to you about many different fascinating areas that could be overlooked by you. That, if you knew, could make a big difference for your career advancement. I have personally used some of the strategies with my clients, and they have used them to very effective measures. As in the garden promotions, they got to take on more responsibility, stay work. Do you award it best employees of the year and different kinds of awards because decently learned what it took for them to become better employees. So in this program, a 12 talk to you about some details about different things that sustain a Korea and show you a general framework or thinking that you could begin to use. If you're not using something like this already, these are not good ideas. These have bean used, their practical tested. They have been used strategically and tactically by the clients I've worked with to your success. And I would like to share some of these wonderful and amazing methods review so that you could find ways and means to adapt them for yourself so that you, too, can create your results. 2. 2. Exploration: I didn't number one. We're talking about doing something that you love. The idea begins when a person begins to ask, What am I here to do? What do I love? What can I be talented for? How can I best express myself? And there's sometimes can be a beginning career question. But sometimes it can be a mid career question, especially when you reach a point Were you realize that you're no longer excited or interested in the things that you do, but you feel that there's something else out there for you. The first thing, when I assure you, is that there is absolutely nothing wrong for thinking psychologically. Human beings were not constructed for 50 year careers. Once upon a time, from evolutionary point of view, we hunted and we couldn't sustain ourselves past 40 years old. And to be able to live a life where you prolonged and going through the different stages off your aging, your parodies will change, your desires will change and you will mature. And what used to fascinate you made me no longer fascinate you anymore, and it's were growing up and getting in the career for the first time. That's highly likely that you're unsure about where you want to do because you get to test yourself. You don't know what you're good at and you do not know what you're gonna become fascinated by. There is a difference between something that you enjoy doing versus something that you're good at doing. Ideally, they're capable of doing both that you're good at what you enjoy doing. Sometimes, however, does not always going to be the case in either way. If you're trying to bridge from something that you no longer feel the passion for one of the ways to begin to branch out to look for something will be what we call exploration. Looking for something you want to do. It's an exploratory phenomena. You are looking for a new idea. You are trying to try out different activities. You're looking for different talons, the human I've explored or have been fascinating for a long time. So when you're searching for something that you can find that you can create as a possible powerful yourself, one of things you could do is to look for people who do something that you're attracted to . And dear passionate about it. No. Well what? BC may not be representative of what you have, but there is magic in talking to people who have passion for the same thing you're about to explore. This is an emotional education. It is an energetic education. It is wanting to learn something intellectually, conceptually. But to learn something energetically is very different. What I mean by that do you remember when you were in school and you have teach us? And there's a difference between the teachers who loved your subject and he shed their love with you versus the ones who topped the subjects? Because the new the subjects and I don't mean the new the subjects passionately. I mean, they knew the subjects from the notes that they wrote. In other words, it was boring. How did you do in those subjects? Did you notice that the teachers who were able to infect you with their passion also turned on your passion and love for the subject? And you did a lot better in those subjects than those who were thought simply and nearly conceptually. So I want you to consider that if you use a scene, tip the same angle and look for people who were turned on by that topic by the area. You can learn what they love. It may not be what you love, but the energy they give you, the passion that the infect you with will enable you to find your angle about what you like about this thing. 3. 3. Make Your Bucket List: another way to do things that you love is making for yourself a bucket list. The pocket list is an idea that came from a movie about two men who are dying and the promise to sustain each other ho each other to doing all the things they've always wanted to do in their lifetimes. Now, the reason why I say you go to deal Bucket list is because when a person has a bucket list that isn't being executed, these ideas, these dreams, these passions that have yet to be lived and yet to be realized are in your we They're things you always think about doing. In fact, everything about going on an adventure. You be thinking of a grand adventure and you don't go adventure. You're still gonna be thinking about going on adventure for 10 years. If we don't think about it, you will be thinking about it for 10 years. We do not do it. You will be consistently thing about it, and you're gonna be thinking about the same idea over and over and over and over and over again because it was never realized it was never executed. I want you to consider when you do your pocket, when you make a bucket list and you start doing them dese tings, which are old ideas or inspirations, they are done, they get off the way. And when you're done with the O ideas, new things come in and you you look for something new. We were something passionate, you know, for something that you love even more than what you do already. And what better way is there to find out something that you really love to do? 4. 4. Find Your Spark: another way to explore and find new ideas and activities that you love is actually to go off your comfort zone. What your comfort zone ISS is about an area in your life where you are well comfortable. You don't feel like moving and it almost is almost as if you feel that is sustained. It is okay. You don't want to change it because it gives you whatever you need at that moment, deliberately going out of our comfort zone. It's one off the consistent factors off people who are seeking a better life. You have to try something new. You have to try something different. No, I am not saying that that thing that you tried us different will be the answer. I'm simply saying that when you stretch yourself into a different area like training a defective ity that you normally wouldn't call for, you could see something that you haven't seen before. That matches what you want. For example, you might not be a very sociable person, but there's an opportunity for you to go meet somebody. And you do go to somebody you know in a social setting that you normally wouldn't go for after work. When you do go there, you might strike. What conversations? Somebody who didn't shares an idea with you wish then inspires you, then gives you a seat for something that you could do cause when you are here when you're in your comfort zone, you're doing everything you already know. When you're out there, you're being bombarded. You are being surrounded by different years that your unused to and that could give you a totally different perspective off whatever you're doing and thereby give you a reason or a path or spark that could lead you to something that really matters to you. 5. 5. Past, Present, Future Trajectory: the next primary I year in looking for something you love to do goes like this. Where does your trajectory from your past to the present lead you? First of all, what is trajectory for those of you who ensure a trajectory essentially is a momentum that you have an inertia that you already moving at, the things you do in the past that continue into the president create a continuous force off cause and effect that creates a certain direction and momentum that you have. So, for example, if you loved adventurous stuff and you always jumped into adventuring, always jumped into adventure whenever there was an opportunity, you create a momentum for yourself to be able to jump into adventure. And if you end up being in a position where you chose our area of study that was relatively sedentary and doesn't have love adventurers, options insight there you have to come off the red creative combination off debt, which can be quite challenging, or you've got to realize that you might be going in the wrong direction from your trajectory. It doesn't mean that your trajectory is going to be profitable enough for users. Sustain a career It simply means that there's something that you're passionate about. And if you begin by picking something a passionate about, the challenge will always be to find a way to monetize it. How do you turn something you love into a job into a career in tow? A path? How do you take something that is more mental, emotional and then weave it into a career path? There exists. How do you take something that's more physical and create a form that allows you to sustain yourself in a meaningful and profitable way? 6. 6. Evolving your Hobbies: the first thing I want to see about your trajectory. It's the question off. What is it that you always love to do when you were younger, Maybe in school you lived. But the question here isn't about what you love to do, but about whether it has evolved some of the Hopis that you love. And so the passions you had A s passions from before. They don't evolve, they don't change. They don't become more sophisticated. If, for example, you took your art classes that you loved and you evolved into more sophisticated paintings into a study off the Masters into an appreciation off how art is applied into life into how people talking can be an art form that has evolved from a simple drawing into a mental artful. If your hobbies have evolved into something quite different from what the original forms were, it could be an indication that that's something that you're instantly and automatically fascinated by. These are hobbies which occupy you your whole life. And as you invest in them, the evolved through time, they're not necessarily stuck in a certain form. And I'm not talking about things that you love that you've turned into a professional form . Then, in that case, you will be an artist or you be a professional something. But I'm talking about the lessons you learn from their that evolved into something that's applicable to other areas that could sustain career. For example, if, in the example was using that you loved out any devolved into an understanding of that, you could begin to notice how different people create artistry in the way they do work. And some of these artists trees could be a lot more fascinating than some others. And you could be then using that design or that desire for artistry, to begin to look for careers or opportunities that have room for you to create for room for you to weave new understandings, new combinations, the confessor, me the interest of yours. So it's almost like taking out the essence off your hobby, evolving it and using it in your career. 7. 7. Finding the Seeds of Value in what you keep: Another point about trajectories is that there could be something you simply have difficulty letting go off. I'm talking about the kind of hoarding instinct. Maybe there's a book in your library that you refuse to straw. It is old is tatters, Tom. It seems out of it, but used to hold on to it for some reason. Maybe an idea, maybe a painting, maybe an object and what could be inside? There could be a seat, and it represents something that you cannot let go off because it's meant to play a bigger part in your life. One of the books I have in my library that I simply refused to throw is a copy of a book that was about the different rituals off the stage is off life off men, and it talks about hole in cultural pasts in traditional pass how different people, different tribes have gone through different kinds of rituals to indicate the country different stages for a long time. And if he knew what was so fascinating about it because you know, when they looked at the subject on the entre political site, it was fascinating. Will need to a degree to me because he had certain implications. What psychology. But I realized being a coach through many different years. And, you know, in my second decade, I've come to appreciate the change in the phases off men, and that was something I couldn't have seen when I was in my 1st 5 years of coaching that I learned to appreciate it because I have clients with with who are with me now. They have grown too many years and many different phases of their life and changing their needs as they go along. So that gives me a deeper understanding off. What is it I appreciate in life. And if I am fascinated by the idea is that people have in life, I'm even more fascinated by the changes of ideas that people have in life s d change. 8. 8. Why are Fantasies Useful: the third thing about your trajectory don't like to talk about are your fantasies. I know that's Lord disregard for peoples daydreams and fantasies in actual life. But I'm off the opinion that your dream will is just as important as your waking world. Because all your ideas, your siege of fascinations, your incompletions, the things you desire to do are embedded inside. They come to you in forms of dreams and forms of fantasies. And I want to ask you whether there something that you always the dream about, that you might be shy to speak about two people because they might think it is immature. I'm gonna ask you the dismissed that thought. I want you to be comfortable being in thinking that thought when you're listening to me. It is OK, Frida, for fantasy. It is okay for you to have a DJ in. In fact, I were encouraging. I do not mean irresponsibly. I mean, if these ideas are things that fascinate you, maybe you should look into that. How many people have loved to travel ended dreamt of traveling, and it may be true that to a degree, the few that they're trapped by the circumstances, but in the process, this cover the discover how important freedom is for them. And Iden chose to pick a career that gives them old freedom that they want, and as a result, they shared freedom and their passion with everybody. So is there fantasy that you have? Maybe it's an everyone to get involved in. Maybe it's a place you want to visit, maybe something want to do, Maybe something you're curious to explore. Maybe it's something that you have always wanted to try, and these fantasies are hints and allegations and clues of our dearest that you might want to look at. 9. 9. What are your Core Interests: Another key idea in looking for something that you love to do is about discovering what is your call interest? The core interest is quite different from what you're interested in. In that thesis are things that lie somewhat inside your subconscious. These are things that light deep inside you as a fascination that you're drawn to consistently and throughout your history, maybe even to the degree that they're so self conscious that you don't even know you're drawn to those things. Sometimes the core interest has a certain attraction that you like to admire from afar. And it could be any number of things you could be fundamentally and at your core, attracted by beauty What it is beautiful. Whatever. Hess What sort of aesthetic quality toe. You could be deeply fascinated that by heroism, you believe that someday you could do something great that could possibly change the lives off thousands, if not millions of people. It could be to your fascinator but brilliance that someday you have an idea. There's going to be so amazing that you could create something. There's gonna me for a huge impact. All you could be fascinated by freedom. The expression the experience off you being able to unleash upon the world whatever's inside you in a way that sets you free. You could be fascinated by attention. Do you want people to know you? Your qualities and the things you are good for in such a way that the crowd around you and look at you with those kind of sparkles in the eyes and these are more deep seated in that people want to look for things, they're sustained. Those things, and Walsten happens, is that people will do things in a indirect way, hoping to acquire the thing that they're looking for through a different channel. My whole, if somebody fundamentally would like to be acknowledged for the achievements the wolverine hot so that they can be known for their achievements because they want to create off achievements to warrant that attention. So the question is what place deep inside you that you're fascinated brain, that you're drawn by that you're motivated by. So, for example, is there an archetype in your world that you look for? If a person, for example, has a quality dear drawn from freedom, you be about them being able to go wherever they want when everyone, however you want, that you can choose to do something on spoke the moment so spontaneously when the idea strikes them because they have that kind of freedom they have. The resource is already have the mental freedom, the psychological freedom to do so whenever you want. Did he could just pick up and the spin off to another place to experience something new because the opportunity came up? Oh, maybe your core fascination is about being able to test yourself as far as you can when you're looking for your inner power. One or things that really fascinates is whole far. One can go how much against stretch, how much you can take, how successful you can be. It is a very interesting motivator to be able to see yourself pitted against the world and testing your own competence issue on capabilities to see how far you can go to the extent people investing themselves. They would take programs, and they will come to look for coaches who trained them and develop them to become the best that they can be simply because they are fascinated by how far they can go. What is the potential that they have in their lives. Some people look for a certain kind of tranquility and peace in their lives, and they're fascinated by anything and everything that could need them to the place where they can find their own tranquility. The own peace be with the people that they love or by themselves. So what is the quality you've always been fascinated by since a long time ago? What does it imagine yourself portraying? Is it you portrayed yourself as a scientist because you believed that you can discover things and you're fascinated About eight years. Do you fantasize about family because you dream off being surrounded by people that you love and careful, is it freedom where you can move around on your own when of you want? Because you have first for exploration or is about discovering what lies deep inside us potential and for you to do the things necessary to unfold it? If you look at this core interest that you have that lies deep inside you, it could be a very powerful gauge in evaluating opportunities that you have. For example, if you like to develop yourself in front of potential if you have a career opportunity. Does it give you the opportunity to grow and change yourself for the better? Or does it simply change and grow your professionalism? That can be a distinction between the two and using these core interests, you could discover what is it that matters to you? I have a worksheet that you could use for this purpose. We can find out the things that matter to you through a simple question. It. And with this you can use that to discover where the D stings actually available in a current opportunity or is available in future opportunities. And he could form a set of intelligent questions that you can ask your interview in return when you're evaluating whether a job or career fits you or not. 10. 10. Finding your Path of Desire: I want to talk a little bit more about this claw interest and this archetype. Where did these archetypes come to you in a dream or fantasy? I know I spoke a little bit about fantasies and dreams earlier on, but I wanna talk about different angle off. That and that is to focus on the quality off that as opposed to the activity of that. The quality off your fascination off this archetype that you dream off or you think about really represents metaphorically quality inside you or need that you may have, or a desire to achieve something that you want. So what is that quality about you? Is it a kind of value that's important to you? Some people, like spontaneously subject freedom. Some people, like such, says some people are admiration Some people like to few secure. And these are all good quality stick, quit, Get you to understand what is really the most important thing for you in your career and what you need to look for in creating something that could be your path. And when you fantasize about the things that you could become s an archetype, I would like you to be able to write down what dese archetypes are and to be able to understand what the qualities that are represented inside this archetype that our fascination for you, and in that often indicates your path off desire for your development and would like you to look into that and find ways you can improve yourself in those areas. 11. 11. Blindspots in Doing What You Love: a blank spot inside. Doing what you love is about what you're good at. What interests you, like you mentioned earlier, may not be what you're good at and what you're good at may not be What interests you When we told about career we're talking about, you be able to find an expression that owners who you are as a person in a productive way, that it's also valuable to the world. That's why it can be a career. If it is not available to the world, then is an investigation. It is an exploration. It is e interests, hobby even. But if you are able to create value in that and people appreciate that value, then there's a reason why it can't be monetized and what it could be A career. Some people do it for love. I agree, and I think that is very important. And in doing something that you love when I get paid for, a lot of people may still hold on to an archaea idea that you need to work really hard to make a lot of money and then to have enough money to retire so they can do the things you love to do not that started changing quite some time ago. And if you have not caught up yet, one of the things that you might want to begin to update yourself is to be will do the thing that you love that makes money and you're already in retirement. So the difference between what you're good at versus what you like to do could be instrumental, because what you're good at is something that people can see. But there you often disregard because it comes naturally for you. I want you to be able to go around two people that you can trust to give an honest opinion of you to ask them. What is it They see you being good at. Naturally, that you're so good is natural to you, but you don't even think about it. And in such, you don't even think that that might be a career calling for you. Too many fascinating careers have been born by that. There's a recent case of a woman who has become very popular in China because of a book on decluttering and what really is decluttering. Well, it's just reorganizing yourself. They are reorganizing of stuff. You know how some people like to pack and repack and repacked things. I'm not one of those people, so that is not a career for me. But if people who become so good at organizing things that some people invited them over to their place to organize their place for them and they get paid for a service. And perhaps she went through so many different cases that should begin to understand that the principles organization in anybody space and has become an expert in debt. And she risible on decluttering and because of the practices that she's gained in her practical wisdom, she's able to share that and help a lot of people D clotted airspaces, reorganized spaces there, people who are professional, personal, organizer's and you have to love creating a sense of order. You have to love putting things in place, and some people are so good at it. They do unconsciously like how you know, whenever there's a group of people, there's always someone who cleans up. You know, some people makes the mass, especially when a party of girlfriends come together for cooking, you know, to have a meal some people cook. Some people set the table and somebody's going to clean. And the personal cleans me think, Oh, this is what I can do So I'll contribute that way without realizing that they're really good at that. And they could even find a creative way to make their sustainable career. So ask your friends, Ask the people who know you. Ask the people, observe you what you're good at. You might discover that there are some things that you do that can be turned into a career . You might find that you have certain qualities or certain practices that you can already incorporate into things that you do to make your career even more brilliant. So these ideas I want you to be able to explore what is you love to do? The main thing here is to be to keep an exploration journal off, try out different things. What do we have first of all, doing something you love is driven from and by passion by love and find people who are in love what they do and let them in fact, you with your enthusiasm, the inspiration, the a mission, their sense of calling and use that as an infection for yourself. to look for something that is parallel inside you when you're exploring the world and finding people who love finding yourself love when you able to stretch yourself far when able to complete the things you've always wanted to do so that you can move on to the next thing you got to move on. And when you can find where you came from, where you're going, what you love to do wife always love to do What is it you have kept hidden inside you secretly? Because, you know instinctively one day that could be useful. The dreams you have, the ideas, you have the archetypes. What, you fancy yourself to be an explorer, a hero, a poll for executive, whatever that might be. What is it that you desire? What is it that subconsciously you seen yourself? What is that you wish to evolve in your What is it you think you're gonna have when you fully realize your potential? And of course, being able to tap into what matters to you because you are talented in it. When you can find these talents, when can find these dreams going to find this passions you're gonna plant in yourself a whole bunch of seeds do. You can explore and mix and watch the world and look for Windows off opportunities where they're able to occur in a career. Or there's an opportunity for to create something that could be your career and college. I have included a few more work sheets inside this program that you can don't look for yourself, and you can use them as an exploration off these ideas that you want to do. I want for you to come one step closer to doing something that you love. And when you find that love in your career in your calling, in your powerful, I would love to hear from you. And if you want to look for me or any of my coaches for up close and personal encounter so we can talk about this in detail, you can find a contact information
