2. Class Description: thanks for joining my class design and Art Deco pattern in Illustrator in this class will be designing a flow after Conspired Pattern. We'll start by highlighting, which are the key elements of art. They go so you can decide whether to design a classical art Deco pata. But I didn't give it a loose, modern interpretation of the style. We'll continue by finding inspiration and create a movement for the project. Once you have a pattern idea regular Matif into your was traitor and we'll start working on creating our baby block. Was your happy we took pattern? 3. Art Deco Style: what exactly is are they go? And how can we recognize Art Deco designs and object? Art Deco is a style of visual arts, architecture and design that first appeared in France just before World War War and developed into a major style in Western Europe and the United States during the 19 thirties , which and identified Art Deco influences on design of buildings, fashion, jewelry or even furniture. Art Deco was associated with both luxury and modernity. It combined very expensive materials, an exquisite craftsmanship put into modernist ICS forms most of the outstanding article creators designed individually crafted on limited edition items, Art Deco was influenced by both dramatic patterns in symmetrical arrangements and vibrant, contrasting colors. The distinguishing features of the style are simple, clean shapes, often with a streamlined look, ornaments that are geometric or stylized, relative simplicity, symmetry and unburied repetition. Off element key features of Art Deco very often designs included organic forms like flowers , vines leaves is it brings our feathers. Although the style went out of fashion in most places during World War Two, beginning in the late 19 sixties, there was a renewed interest in Art Deco design into the 21st century Art Deco continued to be a source of inspiration in such areas as the creative art and fashion and jewelry design . Periodically Art Deco pop, seeing as the thing off Spoon Flowers design contest challenging designers to come up with fresh, modern interpretations of the style. During this class, you learn how to create an article type of pattern in Illustrator. I'll share my method of creating a streamlined kind of pattern by demonstrating the necessary skills and tools off my modern take on.
4. Create Moodboards: In this video, I will discuss about mood boards what they are, how and why to use them would put also called inspiration boards. I used in a variety of disciplines, from fashion to interior design intestines. There a compilation of inspirational elements used by designers to come up with ideas at the beginning of a design project. They're in a useful way to collect different creative information in order to prepare for a new project. Would birds helped to establish all of the baselines that will eventually go into a style guide? Such esteem but ifs, color palettes, textures layup. A mood board is extremely useful for establishing the aesthetic field of a pattern collection or any design project, for that matter. If you're working with the client, Woodward's allow you the ability to involve the client early on and show clients a proposed look without investing too much time in a failed direction. This is my process for creating a mood board. Essentially, I grab bits of inspiration from anywhere I can find them. So scan in things you find around you or such online for suitable pictures or textures. Inspiration can come in the form of an old book you like a piece of fabric. Ah magazine. A decker item you purchased while abroad. Etcetera. When putting together wood boards, it's tempting to just use Google images or Pinterest. But don't just look for digital based inspiration with Britain fluid, and they can transcend multiple medians. For big Jersey. Find a line in the magazine or book to patterns, design and items around your own home. Real world inspiration is all around us, so simply be open to it. And remember, the whole process of creating Woodwards should be fun. So once you have a project idea, break it down into searchable characteristics such as motifs, sees a holiday color, etcetera, and proceed by setting up a mood board on Pinterest, as this is a tool I use quite often. Pinterest is a great tool for visual representations, and it makes it easy to collect and organize creative ideas. I collect images that matched the look and feeling I want to convey through my design for this class project, I will be designing a modern art Deco pattern. My take on this design style says My sells mostly floral. I collect floral prints. I saved them in my Pinterest board. My bathroom design will be fresh and delicate, and I have set my mind on using shades of men. A lavender. I slept the most representative images for each of my characteristics and organize them in a template. At this point, Since I have colors in mind, I extract them at them in my template as a reminder. This is how my wood boards usually look like. I sometimes bring my mood boards and hang them around my workplace to be able to quickly reference back to them or open my Pinterest board to get some fresh new ideas. Is it worth the time? Definitely. Yes. Today we're only making one pattern. But if you're designing about the collection, you want those patterns to fit together and create a cohesive look. What births can keep you on the right track and they're also super fun. So why not? Now that you know why they're useful, it started to make them a part of your process, not quite ready to jump in. Well, you can use my Woodburn template to get you started. You can't find it as a download in the class Project section. In my next video, we'll dive into Illustrator and start creating our modern at Decca Pattern
5. Prepare Illustrator & Create Motif: Welcome back. At this point, you've set your mind on designing an article pattern. You gather the inspiration and you've started sketching your motives. It's not time to open illustrator and prepare your pattern If you're starting a project from scratch. Open Illustrator and create a new document by going to file new set your number of art boards. I usually start with two outputs, one for designing my motives and the second for creating the repeat style. Of course, as a project, dictate and me end up working with multiple art boards, which usually happens, said the week and hide of your art boards. I usually work with the square art board off 1000 by 1000 pixels under add Vast, said the color mode and dp I depending on your project scope. If you're considering uploading your designs to print on demand services, make sure to check the requirements of each purity as they may differ from one surface to another. If you're uploading your decides to spoon flour, for example, said the color mode to RGB at the DP I 250 Society six encourages its designers toe upload artwork in RGB color road and at least 72 d. P i. I have started designing my article pattern as a co ordinate pattern for my grandma's vases . Hero battered, highlighting antique vases. Poppies laugh under greenery and but in soft shades of pink, purple and mint. Article patents are characterized by motives with a strong symmetry. Cleese shapes with a streamlined look to create a motif that will work well for an article pattern. I have extracted key elements from my hero pattern and arrange them in a symmetrical fashion. Start Designing from a central element like this flower is for my motive. I like my brothers to have a kind off him droned feel to them. So my ships are not perfectly symmetrical, as you can see with this pink flower, which has a rather irregular shape. So I'm going to choose the stem off the flower as my central point of reference, and I will construct my motive around it. I will add elements to the left and to the right of my reference point. Yeah, I will start by duplicating the smaller flower using that transform its tool. So, first off, make sure to enable preview if it isn't already so you can see what you're doing. I don't need to change the size of the flower, so I'm going to set this back to 100%. I'm going to reflect the X axis, but I will choose the right corner as a reference point and click copy to get the flowers mirrored. Since my elements are myriad, I like to work with groups as it makes aligning easier. So I'm going to group the two smaller flowers and they will align them with the step. So like the flower group and the step click again on the step. This will make the stem the key object and then under a line, I will hit horizontal distribute center, So I will follow the exact same steps to have the leaves in leveller to the left and right of mighty object. I will add some space between the leaves so they don't overlap with the flowers them and have it. Elements show individually for the lavender. I'm simply going to reflect in copied the object by using the reflect tool and moving to the right of the motif. I'm holding the shift key on windows to drag it at the same horse on the line. So when it looks good, I group the to laugh in their flowers. I am aligned them with respect to my key object, which is the stem off the big flower. I'm happy with how everything looks like. So since I'm a big fan of working with groups, I'm going to group all the elements as one big motive. If you're done descending your motif, follow me in my next video, where we will discuss using the pattern to create a repeat.
6. Create the Repeat Tile: now that you have designed your motif, let's put it to work and create our art. The going inspired pattern. Select all elements of your motive and group them to make. Working with it is here goto object pattern make. This will open the pattern tool. If you're not, get familiar with the pattern tool. Let's go through some off the basics of the tool. The first option you have is pattern tile, but I will talk about it just a little later. Next option is to set the name of your pattern. Next, you can choose from different types of tile. The default is grid, and this option will copy your motif up and down and to the left and right. Other options include Break by Rome. The batter motif is repeated horizontally at a given offset, the default being 1/2 under brick offset. You can choose between the range of pretty find offsets, and you can set whatever looks good for your project. Brick by column is similar to bring by room, but the motive is repeated vertically at the given offset. Alternatively, you can choose Hex by column, my hex Bayrou using With and height you can adjust the tile size, which is this brick tango. Here. You can add more space between your repeated motives on this space, or you can even overlap them. Alternatively, you can use the pattern tile option. A motion earlier. Two men What he had. Just both the tile size as well as the offset. If you have to bring by row or column in the book, simply Dragon drop to adjust the time accordingly. Next option is overlap. This option shows how the copies will overlap Biard from top bottom or left right. You can observe the overlap if the artwork bounce are greater that the repeat tile bones. You can save your pattern either by heating escape on the keyboard, hitting the back arrow in the top left corner or by heating them or by selecting, save a copy to save the pattern under a different name. And, implicitly, another swatch. Getting back to designing our Art Deco pattern To get that streamlined art deco look, just bring by room as the tile type. To make adjustments to my repeat dial, I will manually mortify the width and fight off the time. But activating the pattern tile tools dragon. Drop the edges of the tile until it looks perfect. Save your new pattern. Let's check. Everything looks fine. Draw rectangle and fill it with our new pattern. I'll see you in my next video where I will show you how to save the repeat, first point flower or other PEUT website.
7. Save Repeat for PODs: welcome back in this video about how to save your pattern for further use on a peut. So just one flower if you're in the spire surface, better designed them like I am. I'm sure you've heard the spool flower spoke. Flower is a company which prints custom fabric on demand that is, you upload your designs or browse through other creative designers patterns and order your own custom fabric. And, of course, you can even send up a shop with them. Other popular bring on demand services include society six Zazzle Cordant Bubble. Uploading a designer's pool flower is super easy. Just head to their website, Go to design and just upload spuul flower. Recommend to upload designs in our to be color for months and the 150 d p. I confirmed that you own the rights to your design and hit upload. Next, you can ever designed item description and specific tags so your customers can easily find your design. Like other PRD's else pulled flower. You can even choose your repeat style so you can upload the basic repeat and shoes videos pulled flower between basic brick by column or row have it centered or mirrored this officer grape and easy to use if you have designed a basic repeat just like this was here with no overlaps idea just after a big block. But how do we save our Art Deco inspired pattern, where we had overlaps on the top and bottom of the pattern? If you only save your motif as a J bake or PNG file? And that floated strong flour even if he used the half drop or have big options, there's not much other customization you can do and you lose your details. I look of your design pattern, so what I do is to save not the motive but the actual swatch, the repeat block. So driving drop the bat that you just created anywhere in the clean Art Board. So let the artwork and the group it so that only the no field, no structure of dangle this one here. We just actually you re beat block and go to object art boards, and he'd seek to selected artwork. This has updated the size of your art port to the size of the rebate block. Now save you Repeat by going to file export. A select are either depict or PNG. I'll select a big we name. My pattern am very importantly. Take the Hughes at both options and select either all or only the art board containing the pattern and great safe. Check that the color would be sent to our chippy. A solution, he said, to 150 dp High and choose are optimized under anti. Analyzing this option will remove any white lines that sometimes appear around your pattern . Click OK by choosing the use are put options. We only saved the artwork within the art board, so I worry. Big block. Now we're good to go and upload the pattern to spring flower. Choose the file confirmed copyright and upload. Do them. You're Belgium looks flawless as a basic repeat if needed. You can adjust the design size by making it a smaller scale and evil about your pattern said Just tied though description and tax. At this point, you can purchase your own design and haven't printed on fabric wallpaper or give drop. Have it up for sale. You'll first need to purchase a proof

And since you've reached so far, I hope you have enjoyed what I have to teach. I am found my here tips and tricks useful and made this video because I wanted you to get a glimpse of my craft room. And they wanted to to show I wanted to show you my process of designing a pattern and the train of thoughts that goes behind it. So here here it did. Shoes were old. Magic happens and we're cricket and you're on the face behind. Brickey Suey is designing patterns. So follow along my watch me work with you to see how I design Art Deco inspired better from beginning to end. I hope you do it here. I am using the joint to close the open path. Contrary to its name, I'm using the smooth tool Teoh create a a symmetrical shape. I will group the shapes as I like being organized and working with groups. I'm using the shortcut control G on my windows. I did start from a rough sketch of my proposed look for for my motive. But I will be building all the shapes digitally in illustrator again here to add variety to my shape and make it look less symmetrical and have, like a ham drone feel to it. I'm using this move to I will go with the pen tool to create a rough leave shape. I'm going to add details to the leaf, also using the Ben Tool. But this time as a stroke, I am using cartoon brushes, which I downloaded from Jason Seacrest's website. Here, you can find a link to access them and love them for yourself. - This was my first attempt at the pattern, but I felt that something was missing. So I saved this as fresh and one and then I continued working on my motif second attempt at my pattern. I definitely like this one much, much more. - It's no time to save our patterns. Watch this illustrator bricks with Vic tress. I can't simply resize my battles watch because it was way too big. So now I can see it properly. I'm going to show you two different methods of saving the patterns watch. Let's start with Method one on. This is exactly what I showed you during this class in the previous videos. So I was selected them No feel no stroke with tango. And they will go to object art boards and choose fit to selected part. So this will changed the dimensions of the art board to the ones. So this one cheese, the dimensions of the art put to the time Mrs Off the after pattern Swatch, you have the no feel no struck with ankle, which is actually are re big block. - The second way to do this second method that will show you now is by using the clipping mask. So again, there was like, no feel no struggle dango. I'll make a copy of it and based it in front. I will randomly apply him. I feel tweet just so you can see it better. I'm gonna move this richt ankle to the front. So covering the whole art, Rick, I was select everything. So all the artwork, including the rectangle and then I will hit control seven, which is on Windows. The shortcut for creating a clipping mask. Now I will create an art board again, I will choose fit to selected art drink, and now I'm again going to simply save the sport by going to export and exported as a PNG file. Let's look at the five to be safe. I am now switching between the 1st 1 in the 2nd 1 So as you can see, there's absolutely no difference between the two. It's just two different ways of saving the pattern swatch, so you can choose whichever method works best for you.
