1. Abstraction From Image: hi guys on Welcome to the obstruction from image video. So in this to toil video, we're going to be looking at how we can take a photograph that we've just taken throughout the days on our phones and how we can literally turn that into a three D shape or into a textured artwork to go on a poster. So I'm going to show you. Start with how we can walk, photograph into a shape we're gonna then start playing color and texture. And then finally, we're gonna compose it into an interest in digital artwork. So hopeful about it sounds interesting. So this is just a Photoshopped tutorial. Nothing else on. All I need to get started is a photograph, so let's get started.
2. Creating a shape from an image: Okay, So to get started, I need a photograph. So this is an iPhone photograph that I took just down at the docks in the before. And that's what photograph doesn't matter too much, cause we're gonna manipulate it so much that you know will be able to tell by then that what it waas The only thing you do is that I'll be aware off. I've chosen this because there's sort three different levels of texture to it. I've got the wave say waves like the water texture, uh, bricks and windows and city texture and then the sky as well that could be used for these I open space Grady ins. And so when you're picking you, ah, image like we're just flicking through your phone and to quickly find photograph to try this with, Just keep that in mind on. Did somebody different textures in it? You think I was working on a three in RGB? Um just sort of is a practiced with this, um, and for this tutorial, But if you wanted to make a bigger document on, just so, be aware of the final side of your image when you start to manipulate it it's going to start, Teoh lose quality. So just be aware of that. And if you've got large resolution, images may be worth using them. So to get started, I'm gonna rest Arise this right click in on my layer and just rest. Arise. Now, I was gonna make a copy about we're gonna hide. There is No I'm just gonna command tea or add it in free transform. I just bring in a bet. So the idea now is I'm gonna turn this photograph into an abstract shape. So to do that, I'm going to a single puppet walk. So you, sugar editor, and then puppet wall on. Basically, it brings up this mash on. Basically, the idea is you use this pin to lay the delay. Little points, Andi. So of them. When you drag those pins they solve interrupts based around the other points that you've laid. So the more you the more you put the mall. So, um, complex your Schapelle bay. So you got three modes normal, rigid in to start. Either go rigid are normal. I'm going normal today. Density, Um, is how many of these little triangles you get in your grid? Because I want us to be somewhat of a simple shape, but I went to be too complex. I'm gonna stick with fewer, but feel free to try the other modes the expansion. If you have this off on, like anything above zero after you've made your points, if I was to then drag this corner around he adds this sauce white space where it's expanded the mesh. So this white line here grows as I hope, the expansion. And so I'm gonna keep on Xerox. I just wanted to be the image. And then finally, you can hide the mesh, um, which may well be worth doing. I lights hide, the mesh feels more natural. It feels like I'm just placing these points down. And I have a barren standard of what's gonna happen when I move it. Because there's I'm not trying to understand some mesh system. So this is basically the idea, and I'm just gonna play around with it for a couple minutes on. Then I'll be right back with couple of shapes was work with for this tutorial on bond in the next part will think about coloring them
3. Adding colour: Okay, So, thinking about color there's a couple of different ways that we can think about color in this at the 1st 1 Is Grady in math, So you graded map should be in this adjustments panel here. And if you don't run adjustments panel, just want to go window and adjustments and click on this. And it's just this little grade in one in the bottom right corner. Basically, the way it works, it works. Question. That's an instagram filter. So it turns the shadows of the image one color. So you're darker selected color on, then the lighter call. It will be the highlights. So got these cause here going from this nice off plum color through to this nice brownie orangey cream thing, and you can sort of see how it blends the cause together. Um, and I'll excuse. I use it quite a lot as sort of a good thing. Toe sort of know how to use, but you can help integrate more colors. So this one here, that's like increase. That obviously looks terrible, but you can see how it's all integrates more than just two colors into it. So definitely have a look at it and have the play with that. I'm gonna play with cooler for just a second. Okay? So as you can see, I've used three colors on Do you condone you? So ignore the background color because we'll be changing the background color on multiple occasions focused more on the color of your shape. Is you doing this? Okay, so this is what will go work with the now, Another option is to literally make a layer above your shape on just pen tool and our brush tool in just some colors. Andi, I mean, you can be more free with this and then use a blending mode here at the top of your layers panel on DSO. I'll see what happens when you blend one blended over. You may find that's a little bit better than the grading, or you might not guess I'm gonna stick about. Gray didn't now, but we will be changing it later. I'm sort of showing you how gonna work through this. So the next thing is, I'm gonna just color a background and I'm gonna do it the way that we just made that little demonstration that I'm gonna paintbrush in a colored background on day. I'm not gonna worry about specific colors too much. I'm just gonna focus on at In Shudders Adan Highlights on and, um, not being too so delicate with it, everything is going to come. If you're still you graded layer on your great map, everything will come out that what color? That you sort of chosen few highlights. So just hide that for a second. Okay, so obviously it's not anything wonderful, but it's the shapes and the colors that you end the shallows in the dark. So you want at this point one thing you can do just to sort of smooth Jerry thing together a little bit better is just gone filter and below. And then at the Gaussian Blur Andi, that I just saw blend because in a little bit better like that, you just zoom out and change the amount. You probably want it quite high generally go soon like that now. So in the next part will work into this little bit more
4. Further detail and colour: Okay. So from here, there's a couple things that weaken Dio we can either quickly trying some blending modes over your shea with this new kolej that you've made. But rather than that, I'm gonna leave on normal, and I'm gonna add a posture rise adjustment to it. So this makes it look so of cartoony. And it has to stop noise to it. Ways I really like. And I've been using quite a lot recently I m I won't sue in like that one. And also I want due to this background, I wanna create another layer. I want to make a noise. Lay up. I don't want to add the noise specifically to a layer, so I'm gonna make a completely white selection color and just paint drop onto a fresh layer . The reason that's come out blue is just because of the great Didn't matter. Um, I wanna go filter on a good noise and add noise. So I was one like I like to go gas in. Um, I'm gonna leave about if you're a threesome. Night 68 is usually good if you want a really nice, noisy, uh, image and then to hide the why you just want to put it on multiply as you can see that solve hidden the the background color on. Now, I've just got this really nice, noisy texture. I'm gonna put my great amount back on, and we're starting to get something that looks like considered abstract poster. One thing we can do is we could use a blending mode on our grading, Mac, now that we've got cause beneath that, so I'm just gonna quickly get through them all. I was gonna leave a normal. What we can do is we can add another Grady a map of different colors over the top off a greedy in math. So that one's like blue and pink. So I'm gonna add, like, a sigh in on and a yellow, because over the top, and then blend that over the top of an existing grating map just to see what's gonna happen . And you may feel like this point. You haven't got any self control what this is turning out like, and it's just a lot of trial and error of clicking on different things. But any point I could go into this grading map. Andi now offset blending mode and play with it on set a live preview here so I can literally see what effect my clothes have in. So although I haven't specifically had this in mind, I'm ableto so I go with it, if that makes sense. Okay, so the next thing one do is create a really big, soft textured background on the way I'm going to do that. I'm just gonna hide everything that we've got now. And I'm gonna just go back to our original photograph, make a copy of it that we did before. This time I know that I like these areas of soft See the most that that's where the interest in bits Ah, when it comes to manically in it. So I'm going to use my rectangle insulation and just cut myself out. I'm just gonna write great Leyva copy of FC. And I just slip the background layer as well in a line that the center and I'm just gonna puppet warp it again. Andi, now that I've just got city be able to have more control over how this shape is go look. Okay, So I've been playing with that for a minute on its the sore thing that you could sort of fiddle with forever, and it could really get out of hand. So I'm just going to stick with what I got out. There's some bits in it. I like the case. I have two copies of this on as a start My background. I'm just going to scale this wear no worrying too much about image quality at this point. So I didn't black and white land now and Senate, someone like Maximum black is gonna start to add some really nice shudders to it to first made the background fully black now starting to get like a really nice interest in image. So although it may look slightly strange just like this when you start to compose it and add color and arrange in a certain way, it starts to come to life. So in the next five will think about how we can do some finalizing steps to this having color and any canals just to finish off
5. Finalising: So it's just time to look more like an actual thing that's been somewhat designed. I've just had, in my little template that I've been using recently Just Teoh. So give me more of a sense that this is coming together. I like how this looks blackened way. But that's not to say that I don't want to reply any color all and to get started with that , it's just to use the same techniques that were being used in on your gradient map. Still work over the blackened way He's drawn on colors that we've used that they still work , Um, with a particular blend on so you could still, um, draw on your color. But for now, I'm just gonna work in black and way. So I am. 10 is I'm gonna put some more time to the actual background image and then think about color at the absolutely at the end. So I want to add some more detail to sort of these blank areas. Uh, maybe this here, but we are in very much the danger zone off solve over doing it. So we've still got this little version of it from before on the thing is, these shapes so abstract that I could just place this anywhere and it doesn't look like it's not attached to see what I mean is gonna make a copy of it and just sort of play around where I think it could set, you know? So maybe I should put this in this corner here like this. Maybe that works better. So that was pretty cool. And then maybe could have this maybe behind. I mean, that's feeling pretty goods may. At any point you could solve Edit this in your adjustments as if it was just a photograph. So you could add like a photo filter, um, place above your black and white level, look above your black on white layer and then said, It's like a color So I could set this to pink and put it way up. And you can say that adds things like pinks. It's just an insult. I think about is another color option if you just wanted one solid highlight color. But to really finalize the color, um, I'm gonna do it a lot more specifically. I'm gonna take one of these shapes that we've made on, and I'm gonna put a color overlay on it. This will make it one flat shape. Andi, I'm gonna put a clear overlay off purple. So this is still looking black because it's below the black Away. So let's break that. Ever just put this may be my pinky Ashley. I looked up and then when I went there isn't gonna make a copy of that. Hide the other one right click on this layer and rest. Arise it and I'm gonna go filter. Not gonna Blair it Filter, blur Gaussian Blur. You probably saw that you bless out from before and then once it blood it, I'm just gonna put it on overlay. Andi, you can see how it starts to colored. Highlight wherever you want. So now, at this point, you have this sort of tool to dupe. Okay, uh, and then you can just change the blending mode. Any point, change the color, any point. Rest arise again. We don't overlay chance to call. So one thing that you could do is you could use this, uh, hue saturation adjustment on just basing this far. You could just see what it changes. Your coolers too. Make it just himself more specific ideas of what you want to go far. You can also use the channel mixer, just play around that as well and just ended the values and the amount of each color in your image. So just from return to an old grading map that made and just saying that to Hugh from just playing, I do quite like that I still have some more finite details on. Then I think we're done. I was gonna duplicate this big layer, but it right to the back make it really big once you make that really solve transparent. So you just sort of see a bit of detail. But no, too much. So hurts have been somewhat is to follow, not quite finished yet. There's a couple more things that we've brought just as layers that I just wanna try with. But I hope it's been somewhat beneficial. I know a lot of it is just watching me work, but I feel like it could still learn from that. So I'm gonna put this color level on a layer with loads of cool like this. Maybe not. Can you put on divides? It's bit like this, and then I'm gonna go back into my hue and saturation mix now and trying out some of these presets while you're enhanced when they were quite cool. They call, especially with great it maps on top, I realize old style one. Uh okay. So I could keep playing with this for absolutely ages. But I'm soft Pfaff, in for the sake of making a nice poster, hopefully solve gained the techniques that is used to make something like this on the examples that I showed at the start the video and share what you've learned taking me on its to ground. Andi will give some feedback on Hopefully we'll lens and then just create some really bizarre textured persons. So thanks for watching on assume the next one.
