It contains a set of visual guidelines (your logo, your color palette, your typography, etc.) that will define how your company should be presented to the world.

This is especially true if you rely on an in-house team or external freelancers for various marketing or creative tasks. 1. INTRO: 5 Ingredients of your Brand Identity: There are many courses about convo out there on you, Jimmy on YouTube, and many of them do a good job at explaining what the platform is all about. Very quickly, they show you how to start designing Facebook covers. Instagram quotes, YouTube them. There's an hour that now this is useful, but I wanted this course to be more connected to your day to day reality As an entrepreneur or a business. Boerner created this course as a practical, step by step guide that will help you grow your business by developing your visual brandy. And by that I mean creating all the visuals. You actually need to start promoting your business or your project. This is how I believe I can provide the most value to you by understanding exactly what you need in terms of visuals and by introducing you to a tool. Can VA that will help you design like a pro? Even if you're not a designer, that before you start designing, you need to figure out your brand identity in this section of the course, we are going to make sure you have clearly defined the five key components that tell the world what your brand stands for a k a. Your brand identity. Now that is your mission, your vision, your target audience, your brand personality and the core values you stand for. Use this short section of the course as your checklist to remember the key concepts that make visual identity. 2. Your Mission: So let's start with your mission. Your mission statement explains in one or two sentences why your organization exists. It defines who you are and what you do. So if you don't have a mission statement for your business yet, I suggest you pause this video and spend a now or two trying to figure it out. So, yes, you heard correctly. I said one or two hours just to come up with one mission statement. So basically could be only one sentence. Why, um, I suggesting that you take that long because your mission statement is probably the most important sentence you will ever right for your company. It needs to really be on point and really represent perfectly the mission of your company. So you need to make it short. Very clear, as in every word is to count, like you cannot take one word out of it. It has to be memorable, and it has to be meaningful, as meaningful as possible, actually, so usually you will find the company's mission statement very high on his home page on its website. For many of them, it will even be above the fold, meaning you don't even have to scroll down to read that mission statement, and most of the time it will be the first thing people read about your company. So take your time to develop a very powerful mission statement. 3. Your Vision: next you have the vision. Your vision statement tells the world where you want to go. It is the ideal scenario you have imagined for your company. It is the positive outcome you're trying to achieve. It is your company's purpose. The biggest benefits of a powerful vision is that it provides a direction and helps your organisation prepare for the future. You need to have a clear vision in order to make the right decisions, create your strategy. Decide who are the best people to hire to set your priorities, but also to focus your efforts in the right place. So make sure you have a clear vision for your organization and that you put it down on paper in your vision statement. 4. Your Target Audience: next on our checklist is your target audience. This is where you describe who your customers are and why they need you. In other words, high your products or services solve their problems. Their pains. Now I could create an entire section, or maybe even an entire course about how to define your target audience, as this is a broad topic, and it's really the foundation of any marketing activities. But this is not the place to do so. In this course. I just want to point out that you should know who you're talking to with your brand. Think of it this way. Who should want to be friends with your brand? Get very specific with these questions. You have to know the age, gender, location, income, very short status, occupation, educational level, the type of Facebook pages they like. You can't even go so far as giving a name to your specific target audience by being specific, and by really getting into the details of who that target audience is, you will form a much clearer idea off who your brand is talking to. 5. Your Brand Personality: Once you know who you're talking to, you have to define your brand personality to do so. I suggest you make a list of five objective that describe your brand. This will set the tone for both your visual design and you're writing your copy. Are you exclusive in mainstream? Are you classic or the rebel? Don't hesitate to ask the people who know you and your company and your project for input and perspective. It could also be useful to list five objectives that your brand is not using. The is or is not. Exercise will help you grasp your brand's personality and figure out your voice. That is the way that you will communicate with your audience. 6. Your Core Values: last on our checklist is the core values your brand stands for. These are simply a list of values you carry deep down. It is in your identity, and it's something that you want to build your company upon. They represent the core principles that would guide you through your decisions and actions . Make sure to keep a list of these fundamental values at all time. Alright, this finishes the lesson. The main take away is that before you start designing your brand style guide, you need to figure out your brand identity. We've learned that the key components to creating that brand identity, our mission, your vision, your target audience, your brand's personality and your core values. 7. SKIT: Let's Design your Brand Style Guide: Now that you have clearly defined your brand identity, I would like to introduce you to the concept off Brand Styx Guide. A brand style guide is a document that explains how an organization presents itself to the world. It takes the heart and soul of your brand, your mission, vision and values and translates that into design. All the well established brands have a brand style guide, and if you're serious about your business, you should have one too. Is I mentioned earlier? I want this course to be very practical and connected to your reality as an entrepreneur or a business owner. What you need is to build your visual branding, meaning developing all the necessary visuals that will help you present your brand to the world, right. Well, if you think I'm right, so yes, out loud. So instead of starting this course with the traditional designs convalesce, you create like a Facebook cover or YouTube thumbnail, which, by the way, we will cover later. During this course, I thought it would be smarter to start designing by creating your very own brands Die guide . By the end of this section, you will have a document like this one. But for your very own brand, it will visually present all the guidelines related to your logo, color, planet, typography, imagery, style and tone of voice. And the best thing is you will design it with a little bit of help for me. This will help you maintain consistency throughout all the visuals you will create in section 56 and seven. And consistency is really the key word here. You want your brand to be consistent so that people start to recognize it and to remember it so fascinating and sorry. Passages had bet and let's go to Cannes. Got up. 8. Your Brand Story: way are in the main can, uh, screen right here, the home screen. And the first thing we need to decide is the format we want to choose for our brands Die guide. And this is really up to you guys. It depends if you go for if you want to go for landscape type of document In this case, you might want to choose the presentation format right here. But you could also go for a vertical kind of like a portrait kind of orientation for your document. And in this instance, the A four document will be a good choice. I personally prefer to work with landscape documents. So I will go with the presentation right here, which is 1024 by 7 68 picks its so just click on this one and can I would create a new blank document. So from this point on, you can basically choose between two options. We can go and create everything from scratch eso We will design every design elements ourselves, or we can choose one of the layouts that the canvas team has designed for us right here. And some of them look pretty pretty nice As we scroll down right here, you will see different things. Not all of these layouts are actually free. Some of them don't have this free labor on them. That means that some of the photos inside of them are for sale for $1. So it is not actually the loud that can vie selling but the photos inside the layout. So it doesn't really matter if you choose a layout that's says free or layout. That doesn't say free, because if you change the photos inside of this specific layout, you won't have to pay anything anyways. So let's just pick one layout that we that we like, regardless of whether it's free or not. The second thing you will notice is that when you hover over the layouts, you have a number showing up right there on their top right corners, and these numbers actually represent the number of pages these layout contains. So if we choose this one, for instance, we can see that they have 10 pages in the layout. If I click on it, I can see all the pages and also mentions the name of the creator of this of this template , J. Alexander Santos and I can have a preview off all the different pages, which is pretty cool. Close it here. So I want to choose a layout for my cover page s O. That will be the cover off my brands Die Guide. And to be honest, I can have, like, this one because it has a nice big picture, and I like the front as well. So in order to to understand if this Louds will fit my project and just clicked on it Andi , I see that, Yes, this could do the trick. So I'm gonna start with the layout page. So for this, I'm just clicking on the first page right there, and it will load automatically here on the convo work area. All right. And you see that this photo is not a free photo because it has the canvas watermark on it. But it doesn't matter, because I would replace it for another photo. So let's do that. Let's replace this photo for another photo. In order to import your own personal photos into can va, you just have to open them on your computer. So, in my case, I had them prepared here on my desktop and you just drag it to Canada like this and you drag it here on the left side and it will start uploading. So I recommend you don't use like, very heavy files when you upload on on on canvas because it could take longer toe upload, but also because it will make your document heavier if you decide to export it in a pdf, for example. So that's it. My photo is loaded. I just grab it and drop it on the design right there. So you can see it is now replaced and the watermark has disappeared off course because this is now my photo that we're using on the layout. All right, The second thing I want to do is to replace the color of this border right here. We can see, like, kind of a greenish border. And I don't like this. Green doesn't represent my brand. So what is this border anyway? So it's not a border per se. It is ah, green shape that is actually behind the photo. So I'm just gonna put these things back into place, and we are going to change this color. So in order to do this, you have to click. It's a little bit difficult, but if you move it, it's easier to click on it. We're going to change this color for one of our colors that we want to use for brand identity. Actually, so it's It's possible that at this stage you haven't defined all the colors of your color palette, which is okay, you will have time to do this. But in my case, because we are using the federal connections branding for the purpose of this exercise, I do already. I already do have a color palette, so I'm just going to grab one of my colors. So this is to remind me so that's D 81 c 66. You click on the plus button, you enter the code the hex code, and you go enter. And right now you can see my pink here from my logo, and my comfort colors is now into the can va. And you can see the nice thing is that this color, this pink color is now saved in under my document colors. I can use it later. All right, let's reposition this correctly, and you can see how you're can va grids are actually these purple lines right there are actually helping you center the photo, so it's really easy to center your element in Canada. All right, this looks good. So now next step, we're going to change this text. And one thing I don't like so much about this type right here is that there is a lot of space between the letters. So I want to reduce the spacing between the letters to do this. I'm just going to select the element and go to spacing, and you can see here Letter spacing 200. I'm going to reduce this to 40. And now I'm going to reorganize these techs here, off course to customize it a little bit more. And I'm gonna change the text. I'm on this to be bigger, and this one right here is going to mention the name off my brand. Okay, let's make this a little bit smaller. Or maybe this one a little bit bigger. So now it's just a little bit of rearranging. Center it, make sure everything is centered. Okay, that's looks nice, but I can see one thing straight away. Is that this brand style guy text like those two text combine here are not really centered on my on my page, So I want to center them. But it's quite difficult to select them both, as you can see. So there is a little trick to this. You can click right here on the top, hold your click and go down to select these two elements. But you will see that the photo is also selected. So we need to de select that. For that. I'm gonna press shift and click on the photo. Now, you see, only these two text boxes are selected. I'm going to group them using the group button so that I can move them around. Mawr conveniently group. All right. And now this is just one element, and they can move as one element. Okay, so now it's easier for me to center it. You can see how can Va assists me with these, uh, these purple lines. And now I know that this text is exactly centered on my document. So this looks good. Maybe put this one down a little bit more. All right, so that's the first page. That's my cover. And now we are going to create another page with my brand story. So for the brand story, you can pretty much bring any information you like. But in my case, I would like to display the mission and vision of my company. So you don't have to just stick with your mission and vision for this brand story page. You can bring more of the five key components of your visual identity like we've seen in the previous section. For example, you could speak about your brand personality. You could speak about the core values that you stand for, etcetera, etcetera. But for for now, I'm just going to go with mission and vision. All right, So to do this to design the second page while first I can add a page and you will see that can VA recognizes that I've been using this pink background? So which is nice? And I'm going to go back to the layout tab right here to go back to my bread, kind of lay out and see if there is another page, another layout, basically inside this layout that I could use instead of creating everything from scratch. So now I want to present my company's vision and mission or mission and vision. So I think this page could actually do the job. So I'm gonna make sure I select my second page right here. And I would click on the desire layout. It will load here, just as it did for the first page. Okay, great. Let's start with basically changing this green for the pink. And I see that this black color for my Texas not really nice. Um, I could also go for another color than pink. So let me check my visual identity here. I could go, for instance, for discolor a BD zero de six. All right, enter. And that sets my second color right here. So the black off the text is looking better. I would say that on the pink, I could also have changed the black for white and keep the pink background. But I think this pink is a little bit intense, and I prefer to go with this light blue. All right, so now I'm going to basically change this title for my document information. So I will just based here mission. Now I will place my company's mission here on my home page. I do have here my mission. Our mission is simple. Okay, so I used this. Go back to Canada. I would click on the second box and select the text based My mission. Perfect. Now, when I want to do is to have a second part, like to other boxes here. One with the tighter vision and another one text books like this one with my company's vision. All right, so let's do this. We can select them individually, or we can select them both and go copy. That's a little shortcut. I'm showing you guys. We put it here. We can do the same trick. Make sure everything is aligned. We select everything and can valances make sure this is centered. I replaced this for vision, and I replaced this for my company's vision. All right, so now we have one last thing to do is to change this bread visual right here. And for that, we can upload another photo. Um, I don't think I have one that will do the trick here. So I will just upload one, remember? Just open it or find it on your computer. I had prepared it right there, and I would drag this photo to Canada. It will upload once it's uploaded. Right now, it's uploaded. I can take it, drag it directly here. One thing I want to show you. I don't really like how it's looking right now. I don't really like to see my face right here, and it's a little bit blurry anyway. And I think their arm or interesting parts on this photo. So I'm just going to double click on the photo and I can see the whole photo and I can move it around from left to right. So basically finding the best section of the photo, it's gonna be probably this one. I kind of like how you can see all the head right there is kind of funny. So I'm gonna go for this. All right, so we have our two first pages of our Brian style guide 9. Your Logo: Okay, Welcome back to Canada, guys. In this lesson, we are going to add a few more pages to our brand style guide, and these pages are going to be talking about logos. So your logo, your company logo, how you can present it to the world and what you can and cannot do with your logo. So this information will be very useful to help you the people in your team, but also sometimes freelancer freelancers that will be working with you like a graphic designer or maybe a video producer or someone writing a block post about you. But they need to access some visual element of your visual identity. So we just continuing our project. We are going to create one more page. And, as you can see, can Va gives us the blue background. But we are going to get rid of that by selecting it and deleting it because we want to present our logo's on the white background. It's more convenient, by the way, I'm not going to show you in this course how to create your own logo. This is not a course about creating a logo, first of all, because creating a logo is not a beginner's type of level. Creating a logo is something you have to think very seriously, and I don't recommend you do it yourself. If you are a beginner graphic designer, Ah, we totally recommend you purchase a logo from a professional because your logo, it's basically the face of your company, so your logo needs to be perfect. So in this lesson, we are going to assume that you already have a logo and we are going to import that logo and his different variations into Canada. So that's what we're going to do. And for me, I'm going to use the Fair Trade Connection logo, which we happen to completely redesign, like a couple of weeks ago, thanks to my brother, who was also a graphic designer. So he really helped us with the first version of our logo, which we liked and has been our faithful logo for the last seven years. But now we just thought it would be a good idea to refresh this logo, so we kept the main concept but made it a little bit more modern. All right, so the first thing I want to do is basically to import this logo into Canada. So here in my on my desktop, I prepared the different variation of this logo. So right there, you might not have as many variation for your own logo. You might have only one version of it. What I do recommend is that you have at least a vertical version of your logo. The icon only of your logo. That means the visual part of your logo and a horizontal version of your logo. All right, So, as you can see now, I have my three basic versions of the logo, so I'm just going to make sure I select this document page and click on the logo. So that's it? That's my first version of the logo. Gonna make this a little bit smaller, and I'm going to make sure it is centered. So this is basically the vertical version of my logo. Right? So maybe it will be a good idea to express that this is the vertical version of the logo. So what I want to do, basically I want to have some kind of title like this one, like that one that says vision. But that would say vertical. For example, So there's two ways of doing this. I could just copy this text books without its attributes, which is pretty useful. Or I could just go Texts. New texts. Bring this down here. Changed the Funt. The same front is this one. So this is railway heavy. So another nice thing here. Guys can vary. Remembers your document fund. So these are the funds that we've been using in our documents so far, so that's pretty convenient. I confined really heavy. I can see this one is an old caps. This one? Not so the way to change this. You can go here. So if I click, everything is uppercase. Now I see that this one has more spacing between the letters I can check. Yes, it's 1 20 This one probably doesn't have 1 20 Let me check. No, indeed, I have zero. So I just bring this up to 1 20 like this and the size of the Texas or so not the same as 28th. So I make this 28. All right. So, as you can see, it took me a long time to get to the same result, so I'm just going to delete this one and I have my vertical tighter right here it is. Okay, but I would like it to be a little bit more fancy. After all, this is my brand style guide. And I want this to be stylish. Right? So let's make a little extra effort and style this a little bit more. So first we're going toe align this. Make sure this is clipping. You know, you always want to do these guys to clip your selection area very close to the edge of the word. If you would go like one extra step, it will actually show in two lines. You want to be just at the limit, because once when you're centering your element aligning your elements, this is very important. So that's pretty like this. And I want to add a little shape behind it, so it looks actually cooler. All right, so what I want to do is use a shape and I will use a simple rectangular shape like this one . Make this Moeller like this, and I would put it on top of it. You see, can va helps me centering it with my word. So I want to make this all the way there. But as you can see now, my rectangular shape is just on top off my text. So I will bring this element back foot doing this. I need to select it. Then I go to arrange and push it back like this. Of course, it's black on black, so it's not gonna work. Going to use white. Okay, so that looks okay. I have to bring this down a little bit. Make sure this is centered. Perfect. All right. So I have the first variation of my logo, the vertical. I want to create the horizontal use of my local right now. Okay, so I have the horizontal right there instead of starting from scratch again and creating these creating everything again, I can just copy this page. Guys, I just use this. It would create an exact copy of this. I get rid of this one guy, insert my horizontal logo, make it a little bit bigger, like this. Make sure it is centered. All right. And of course, need to change this vertical for horizontal. As you can see this bigger, the text needs more space. Same here. I'm gonna clip it right before it actually sense the text back to a second line. Make sure to the line like this. Good. So now we have horizontal version of my local greats. What I could do, I also have an icon. So it's basically the same. It's just a visual part of it. So I can take this, make its molder, and I can use this actually on this page to show. Okay, this is my main logo, but if I want to use it without the text, this is how it looks like. Okay, not bad. So we have vertical a orientation, like off the logo. We have the horizontal. So whether is can we bring to this document to give more explanation on how to use our logo ? Well, the thing is that I have some color variation of this. I can only part of my local, the visual part of my local. My my brother helped me create this, so I think I'm just going to bring this all right, so I prepared them here. So all these are color variation of my logo. So same going to important into Canada. Gonna take a little bit of time, but it's fine you can see. I think I have 1234567 variation of my logo. I can see straightaway that I missed one. Let me add it to this mix, all right and what I can do. I want to display all the color variation of the logo on the same page. I want to be able to visualize them all on the same pitch. So if I click on the 1st 1 I can see that it's displays pretty big, and I want this to be smaller. Otherwise I won't be able to display them all on the same page. So there are different ways of doing this. I could just bring the 1st 1 make it smaller to a size that I believe will be small enough so that I can display all eight logos. Go the 2nd 1 and do it. The problem if I do this, is that it's pretty difficult to make sure, or these logos are actually at the same size have the same size. You see it slightly smaller, so there is a trick to avoid. This difficulty is to basically click on each of the logo one after the other, and they will just can I will just import them all on top of another. And now you can see they're all here. But now what I can do is to select them all and resize them, making smaller all at once. So now you can see there or here, but or with exactly the same size, which is what I wanted to do. Okay, so now what I have to do is to rearrange these logos eso that it actually displays nicely on my page. They're actually eight of them. So what I could try to do is arrange them. Kind of like on a grid. I will select them all and make sure they are centered. And then what I will do is basically copied this idea of the title and the shape behind it Go to my elements Shape square, and I want to have kind off the same size as the logos there. So you see, if you reduce it like carefully can vary Gonna is going toe assist you into creating exactly the same size for your shape at this. So this is pretty neat, and I'm going to use the tighter right here so again, instead of creating another text, I'm just going to copy this one because it has ordered the attributes that I want for my text here. And I'm gonna call this icons. Right. So this is nice. This is centered. And this looks OK. Maybe a little bit too big. I just reduced this to 24 you can see again. I would make sure this is right before the split, and this looks nice. All right, so now we have the icons. Weather is Could we do? Yes, I do have a black and white version off my logo. So I want to create another page that will help me display this black and white version of my local. So here, I'm just browsing through the different layouts. Okay, so I'm in the layout tab. I was in the upload time and just clicked on layout. I'm trying to find the split equally between two color wrecked angers. Oh, it seems like this This visual right here could do the trick. Okay, lets try. So make sure you select the slide here, the page where you want this to come and you click here the first thing we will do is basically getting rid of all the text and all the elements we don't need. So we don't need any of that. And as we said, we want white and black. All right, that's pretty good. That's exactly what I wanted going back to my uploads. And I want to applaud now my black and white version of my logo. Okay, so I prepared them here. So actually have my logo in black for the horizontal and the icon and I have the same for how is until an icon for white version of my logos, I would just go ahead and import this into Canada. If you are going to pay a graphic designer, make sure you have at least this vertical, horizontally version of your ago. This is very important. If you have the chance, get the visual only, and this black and white version is also super important. So now they are uploaded. I'm going to start with the black version. Just click on your sleight to make sure you're on the right on the right page, and then I'm going to simply import. But I can't make it smaller. That's a little bit too big. This looks nice. Maybe this one a little bit bigger, like this. Perfect. And I'm going to do the same with the whites. See how I positioned it next to it. So basically what I did, Let's see. It was this more. All right, Let's let's do it from the beginning again. So you can see what I did here. I import it. But I remember this when I stretch it to be a rivet, bigger. So what? I do it just I just go all the way to one side or the other. And I would just pull this until I see the marks right there. So now I know thes two locals are the same size, and Canada even lets me like aligning perfectly to the 1st 1 All right, that looks decent. Same thing with my wife. A lot of companies invest a lot of money in their look and feel, you know, the color, the logo, the textures, the typography and everything. But not so many companies really take the time to define what differentiates them while using the tone of voice. Your tone of voice is not so much what you say, but how you say it. It's the impression it leaves on your audience on your customers if you develop it carefully. If you really take time to think about the tone of voice you would be using with your company, this could be a secret ingredient in your brand's recipe. So let's go ahead. Let's come back to Canada and let's finish this brand style guide. We are almost done we have the logo. We have, um, the color palettes. We have the typography. We have the imagery style. And now what? We need to develop easier voice. So let's continue in the same, consider with the same consistency and create another page.
