Coloring for Adults: How to Pick the Perfect Color Palette

1. Intro to Picking color palettes: Hi. Are you an adult who loves to color? Color is a great activity to help you just relax and to just have some me time to take care of yourself to just let your brain go in a totally different direction and just ease that stress of the day. However, are you ever frustrated with your coloring experience? Do you ever have trouble choosing what colors to begin with to start coloring your page? Um or do you just go through and choose as you go along? And then maybe at the end, your page just doesn't have quite have that wow effect that you were hoping for? Um Well, hi. I'm Joe did it with Jodi. It designs. I'm a coloring book artist and author love to color myself. I'm a designer, and so color is just so important to me, And it could make such a huge difference choosing the right color combinations to portray a certain feeling or get that wow effect. And so, in this class, come along with me and we're gonna learn how to pick the perfect color palette so that you have a more delightful and pleasant coloring experience through this course. we're gonna learn why it's important to choose the color palette. And then we're going to talk about finding inspiration for your color palettes and how to capture that inspiration as well as how to organize all the inspiration that you find. And then we'll go over how to actually pick a color palette that's gonna tell the story that's gonna give you're a page just that Wow. And really give it some emotion and feeling and just have at such a better look to it than when you just choose colors at random. And then we're gonna learn how to actually apply the pallets that you picked to your page in a way that they're balanced and beautiful. Your project for this class is going to be to choose to different color palettes and then to apply those color palettes to the same page. And I'm actually giving you a free coloring page to use that can also be used as a greeting card to give to someone after you've colored, if you so desire. So come along with me, join me in the class and learn how you can have an even more delightful in pleasant coloring experience. 2. Why Choose a Color Palette: Hi, this is Joe did with Jodi designs. Welcome to my class. This is coloring for adults. How to pick the perfect color palette for a more delightful coloring experience. In this first lesson, we're going toe learn by choosing a color palette is important. I will share why The first thing I do in beginning a new coloring page is to choose a color palette. I will share how doing so can help to have a more delightful and relaxing coloring experience and how it can help you create a piece of art that makes you smile and that makes you proud to share it. The first reason why choosing a coloring palate is important is because a color palette can help evoke emotions and moods and feelings from your page. Things like peaceful fund, bold, somber or happy. Uh, maybe you want a page that is more elegant or serene. Or maybe you want one that's very dramatic, so you use colors, very bold colors that have great contrast. You can also use colors to create a earthy feel or tropical field. It feels like you're on the beach or a retro field, remind you of days gone by, um, maybe a fiesta. Maybe you want it to look like a party or a coastal scene or rustic, that great rust rick rancher country feel. So the colors are a great way to put those feelings in those emotions into your page, and they help you. Choosing a color palette can help create a stronger story. So here's an example. I've got two pages here, the one on the left, the colors you can see there's not really a color palette. There is, um, some duplication of colors. The turquoise in the green and the purple a little bit like the orange over here. Nowhere else is there orange in the picture and some just random colors here. And it doesn't just give you a strong a story of what's going on in this. In this page, where is the one on the right? If you look, it's got very soft colors, a muted tones, and so this just kind of gives you that soft, gentle feeling. So this makes me think about when it says do everything with love. I'm thinking, um, okay, love is something that's gentle. It's kind. It's nice, and this kind of just gives a different feel to it than the other one and gives you more of the feeling than the other one does. So also, color palettes can communicate a deeper message. So here we've got three, the same page done up in different color palettes. So the 1st 1 on the left has got this great bright autumn colors, and I don't know if you conceive very well, but the words treasure and heart are done in a metallic gold, and so they kind of shimmer and shine, and this kind of communicates the message. When you're talking about treasure, it's something that would be like gold, you know, as valuable as gold. Um, in the second picture for its it's got those bright jewel tone colors again. This this kind of gives me the feeling of, You know, that treasure is something that's that's a valuable like like jewels, and that just the brightness and the vibrancy of it is just amazing and gives you such a good and wonderful feeling when you look at it Now, the one on the far right has got some softer tones, lots of pinks in there and peaches, and so it's kind of got this feminine, feminine look to it, and so I kind of get the sense from this that is talking about where your treasure is. Your heart is in. The more emphasis is on your heart and how it's with our heart that we care for things. We love things, and that's where that comes from so you can see the deeper messages that are communicated through the colors in these three coloring pages. So another reason for choosing a coloring palette and his in advance is that it increases your confidence. So I find that coloring is more relaxing and enjoyable when I choose my color Palin in advance, because it gives me confidence that my page will turn out good. And so I covered with confidence, and that makes for a greater page. Another reason is that simply it's easier to travel. So how many of you like to take your coloring with you and and do coloring on trips or outside or something? So where they've been taking your complaint collection of colored pencils or whatever supplies you're using, you could just take whatever color palette urinating for a particular page that day makes it very simple. So And finally, the last reason is that when you choose a color palette and you're limiting your colors when you set limitations, that actually does choose creativity. I know it sounds counterintuitive, but it really does. I love this quote from Amberleigh Starfire, and she explains this in her article, called Why? Limitations Boost Creativity, She says. None of us like them. Yet limitation is the fertile ground in which states of creativity sprout and grow without the challenge of limitation. There is no need for creativity. We would never be pushed into seeing things in new ways because there would be no incentive when were limited by circumstance, situation or supply were forced to work around that barrier in order to accomplish what we want. And here we're limiting our supply of our colors that we're limiting our colors by challenges when approached positively causes to exercise the muscles of our creative minds . So that gives you something different, a different way to think about it. And I also love this quote By Beth Bell, Beth Cooper. What restrictions do is take away some of the choices available to us and with, um, that paralysis of choice that stops us from getting started. I don't know about you, but have you ever just, um, been prayer allies by starting from humans starting a page? Because you're like, I don't even know where to start. So now you were nowhere to start. And that's by choosing your color palette, and we're gonna get into more of actually how to do that in the following videos. 3. Capturing Inspiration: welcome back to coloring for adults how to pick the perfect color pattern. This video. We're going to talk about capturing inspiration because the first thing you want to do when choosing a color palette is have inspiration. So this is going to talk we're going to talk about, uh, in the next video, we'll talk about finding inspiration, but in this video, we're gonna talk about once you've found it, what do you do with it? How do you capture that inspiration? So there's the old school way, which is to keep it in files and file folders or in notebooks to just followed away the paper copies. And so if you like to do that, then that is one option. I live in a very small space and do not have much room. And so that and for other reasons, I prefer to use my computer. And so if you're using your computer, you can save photos that you take, um, or images that you find on line two folders on your computer, and you can also save lose to Pinterest, and we will be talking more about Pinterest later on in the course. But one thing to note is to be sure to save the attribution when you say photos off of the Internet so that you can properly credit the photographer. Um, another way is to use your smartphone. Your smartphone is your friend, and I love my smartphone and I actually have an iPhone, and I use it every day, and it is so easy to snap a quick picture. It's also easy to delete the pictures that you don't want. You can see this is actually my, uh, picture of my screen from my phone of some pictures that I've taken of flowers and I take pictures flowers all the time because whenever I go for a walk, wherever I'm out, I see flowers. I easily take pictures because I just love flowers and that you can get so much color inspiration from flowers and also other things everywhere I go. So also, you can use your smartphone to scan photographs or magazine pages. There certain APS that you can use to scan and it's makes it very crisp, clear photo, and so that's a great option to, and the reason that love it is because, well, I always have my phone with me you know, wherever I go, and so that's easy, because I don't have to worry about taking something extra with me. And it's also very easy to organize, share and even print out photos from your smartphone, and we'll get into how to organize your offenders are your inspiration in the next video. But for now, stay tuned for the next video, which will be on how to actually find inspiration for your coloring pages. 4. Finding Inspiration: welcome back to the coloring for adults class on how to pick the perfect color palette. In this lesson, we're going to me discussing how to find inspiration and where to find inspiration. So there's basically the re different places outside, inside and online. So let's dive in first. My favorite place. The absolute best place, in my opinion, defined color inspiration is in nature because that's God's own creation that is the source of all color. So there are so many different places in nature that you confined color inspiration from gardens and yards to parks, farms, forests, deserts, mountains, oceans, I love sunrises and sunsets. They can give you such amazing inspiration for color palettes and also animals out in their natural habitat or even in a zoo. Marketplaces for color, inspiration, skies also, You can see this beautiful rainbow over here, just so many places in nature to find inspiration. And that's why you know, we talked about how to capture inspiration. That's why I always have my iPhone with me, and I'm always taking photos. These are just photos on this page that I've taken the left. One was on a trip that we went on a motorcycle trip with my husband. The 2nd 1 was in my church. The parking lot at my church had these beautiful flowers. Of course, I had to snap a picture. And the other one is a rainbow that was just outside our house. And another place outside to look for inspiration is in cities. So, um, also, whether you're in the country or whether you're in the city if you're one of the other, you might think, Oh, you know, there's not as much where I am, but there is always color everywhere and in the cities, from the storefronts to the buildings, the architects chur, um, restaurants. This photo of the this little blue and turquoise design here that was in a Mexican food restaurant that I went into. And I just loved that colors that just popped. Um, actually, I think it was the back the back of a bitch. So anyways, I just snapped a quick picture of that. Um, sign this other one is a sign from our trip when we went to Fredericksburg. Love the color combination of that sign, but just look everywhere. Billboards inside museums, of course, has gonna have lots of color inspiration, and you may not be able to take photos in there, but you can still gain inspiration. Um, since some cities have just such beautiful parks that you can get 12 or zoos that would be full of color. I'm also just the skylines or the city lights are also great places for inspiration. And then, of course, um uh, then we're going to places that are inside. So if you go in the city and go inside some of the shops a likeness there is just color everywhere, everywhere from malls, department stores, boutiques and gift shops, antique shops, clothing stores, house where stores, nurseries and gardens also a great place. Also craft stores, home improvement stores and even the grocery store. See the photo there with just the food? Um, just go down the produce aisle on your grocery, store it and take some photos and and see what color combinations you might come up with. And these were some other places. And like this one with on the right, with all of the glasses and the dishes. Um, I just loved that whole color palette right there with pinks, oranges and greens and the turquoise just such a bright kind of a fiesta feeling. So I, of course, took that when I was in my it was probably at Wal Mart, Another place to find lots of great color. Inspiration is at events and parties, and this is because, um especially ones that are planned very meticulously, And so they have come up with a color palette that a lot of these air done professionally. And so these people know what they're doing when they're choosing color palettes, and I choose colors that go great together and, um, just are very pleasing. And so you can't go wrong if you go with that same color palette. So the left here is it a bright fund Easter relooking palette in the middle. There's one with the pinks and greens, hot pinks and even go Teoh the in your walmart or a target wherever to the party section and look at the items there because these were designed by professional designers and so you can't go wrong going with those color palettes that you find there. Um, food is another great source of inspiration, just looking all that. I love the Citrus color palette with grapefruits and lemons and limes. So just fresh feeling this salad over here, this coleslaw just has that fresh and lots of the greens, purples. And, of course, deserts could be just such fun colors as well. Um, and so another place to find awesome color inspiration is in fabrics, because again, these are designed by professional designers, um, who have taken great care in choosing their car pallets. And so you can find either just a single fabric print and take the the colors from that one fabric, Um, and go with that color palette. Or you can also look at a whole fabric collection like this one down here in the bottom, right. All of these patterns are designed to go together so some of them may not have all of the colors bit if you put them all together there, you can use all of those colors together, so you've got pink in that gold color and orange and gray in a couple other different shades of those same colors. So, um, of course, I grew up with my mom sewing and spent lots of time in fabric stores, and I just love fabrics, gets so much inspiration from there and then another way, place to find color. Inspiration isn't quilts, and we're going to talk about some other ways that fabric is used and you can use the look at those type of products that to find your color inspiration. And so, um, I just love quilts, and they just come up with such wonderful color patterns on this one on the left here has got such a warm, um, sort of autumn a feel to it, and then the middle with the bright sunshine and then the pop of red is that would just make an awesome coloring page. And I love this one on the right is actually my favorite color palette, and I actually chose not to choose the fabric. This is a quilt that what mall made for me. So I love pinks and blues courses you can see, and you can probably tell with everything I do. So another place that fabric is used. We can also look for color. Inspiration is in fashion, so when you go to the clothing store, look at the displays that they have because they will display things that go together so you can see on the left here. We've got this dress that has all these colors in it, but it's got the the high yellow sweater in the red hat. You know, that just highlights that. And the next one you can see also cause, um, look, a Children's clothing because they're gonna be a whole different color palettes than the adult colors. And then I love this, uh, wintry colors on the right with these scarves hanging there. And also, interior design is a great place to find color inspiration because again, interior designers go to school and learn all about color. What colors to put together, um, to achieve a certain effect. And so you know, just when you go like this middle photo was in a hotel that I went to the Hotel Indigo and just had these beautiful, bright blue and bright yellow colors everywhere it was. So court was so handed, capture it to remember that to use in a coloring page or in some of my designs, and then the photo on the right, all these different pillows so you could check just one of those pillows and use the color combinations and there to make your color palette. Also, stationery and paper products are a great place to find color inspiration again, these air designed by professionals who have studied color and so you can even go to those sections in your store. Time to look a gift. Wrap journals stationary, um, even hard on campuses and things like that. You can get so many great ideas. And then, of course, there are magazines and catalogues of all of the previous shops that we've been talking about so you can look at fashion magazines so you don't even have to leave your house to go shopping to find inspiration. You can just open up a magazine or a catalogue. So fashion magazines, home core magazines, travel magazines have some gorgeous photos and there that you can use for inspiration. Of course, design magazines, even women's lifestyle magazines. You know the ones that the color that cover always attracts your attention, and you just have to buy it there on the check out stand as your checking out. That's because they have very carefully selected those colors that go well together and that are gonna I draw your attention. And then there's food, magazines, craft magazines, clothing and then also clothes catalogues of all kinds, also that have any kinds of items that you would also find in a shop. So clothing, home accessories, fabrics and quilting craft catalogs and gift catalogs or some of my favorites. And then we go toe online and the, uh, the world's this guy is the limit. With online, you can search for any of the following things that we have talked about it, and a great way to search for something is what I like to do is what I'm looking at it Paige and I say, OK, I want this page to feel, um, very a rustic I want. I want this place to have a rustic feel so I will search online for rustic color palettes or rustic fabric. Or maybe I wanted to be like a spring palette. So I'll do Google spring fabric collections or spring wedding colors you confined. Oh my goodness, so many great color palettes when you look for wedding colors, also betting you don't That's got the whole, uh, bedspread and the pillows, the curtains and everything that matched. Those are great places to find color. Inspiration as what? Now I've got some online shortcuts for you, though, because, as you know, it can get overwhelming when you search when you go to searching online. So here are a few websites that have already put together color palettes. They take a photo and then they pull out the certain colors and actually makes watches and give you a color palette. And so this is kind of a short cut to May. So the, uh, best website to begin with is designed seeds dot com. They're the one who did the color palette on the left of the bombing screen here. And then there's also a block those post on the camera blawg that has 100 of those. And that one block posts that air that air pretty awesome. And then, of course, Pinterest. You can search just like you would on Google. But just do the same kind of search on Pinterest Hello times You get different, uh, results there. And then there's another website that's a color dot adobe dot com. So in the next video, gonna actually we're going to go online and actually explore some of these sites. So I just want to leave you with this little quote Just remember, inspiration is everywhere. You just have to look for it when it rains. Look for rain bows when it's dark, Look for stars, happy coloring all. 5. Online Shortcuts: Okay, let's explore some of the online shortcuts for finding color inspiration for your coloring pages that I talked about in the last video. So the person is designed seeds dot com that design dash seeds dot com. So if you look here right away, you see all this beautiful color and you can just click here where it says explore now. And, of course, my what website is being slow? And here you have blogged post after Blonde Post and here you have blogged post after blonde post of these beautiful color palettes taken from real life photos and she's got them. The colors pulled out, and you could just find all sorts of beautiful color palettes for your coloring pages. You can search up here my color. So if the primary color you are looking, uh, looking for is, let's say, this pretty turquoise color so that you can click there and then get all of the color palettes that contain the color in them. So that's a great way sometimes to just choose one color and then go from there and see which one other combinations you would like to have. You can also duke by collection so the seasons is a great way. So this is autumn right now, So I'm gonna look at the autumn pellets and see there's a nice, very soft autumn different than the bright, the brighter ones that you normally see. There's field tone, so that's an interesting twist on an autumn palette. There's sunflowers, some more natural grains. So anyways, you get the idea and you've got these. She's got six colors with each pallet, so that is a great website to check out. So here is the Camba Blawg that this block post I told you about that has 100 bringing color combinations and how to apply them to your designs. So they've got, um, and they kind of tell you what kind of feel each one is going for. So this one's fresh and bright, subdued in professional dark and earthy Crispin Dramatic, cool blues, outdoorsy and natural, watery blue greens, primary colors with vibrant twist You isn't that gorgeous, refreshing and pretty. So you get some really good ideas from here. Although they're not sorted into any categories, you just gonna have to scroll through the whole list. But it's worth worth checking out. So and then that's look at Pinterest and I have actually created my own Pinterest board called coloring palates for coloring pages. So this is very much a short cut for you. So if you have limited time and you're just in a hurry and you just I just want to find something real quick and I will give you the link to this. In the resource is section. You can just come to this board Pinterest board of mine and I have pinned lots of different color palettes here. They all have the photo with the swatches pulled out. So your work is already done for you, and that just makes it really quick and easy. So another thing you could do on Pinterest, of course, is to just do a search. So say we wanted to do on a color palette, Um, a couple pellet. Then you would find all sorts of beautiful inspiration. Sit. And then when you find one that you like, you just hover over it and click save and you can save it to your own board. Looks like I've already saved this one. So the next website I want to talk about is and Adobe website. It's color dot adobe dot com, and you can actually create your own palettes here. We're gonna talk about that later, but for right now I just want you to click on the Explorer tab and looking there all kinds of color palettes that you can look at choose from these air Just all kinds of people who have made and saved color palettes on here and you can actually do a search here. So if you're looking for, um, let's say that we want a sunset color palette how that's got, like all the same one up there. But here you go. There's a bunch of different sunset, everything from right purple and yellow to Here's a Very pink and peaches peaches one, um, the more subdued colors there with kind of the greenish grey. Uh, maybe on an overcast day you'll have a sense it like that. So, anyways, there's where you can get lots of color inspiration. So that's all for this video. See you in the next video 6. Organizing Inspiration: Okay, let's continue with the class by now. Hopefully, you have found and captured lots of color inspiration for your next coloring palette for your next coloring page. But you may be starting to think, Oh, my goodness, this could get overwhelming because I'm finding all this inspiration. If I don't have a way to organize it, then it's gonna be just chaos. So in this video, we're gonna talk about organizing your inspiration. And then so of course, there's the old school way, which is to organize it in file folders or in notebooks. And you can certainly do that. Um, or maybe a combination of this and another, uh, wait, So you could maybe name your files. You could have one for spring, one for summer, fall in winter. Um, or you could do even its pins on. You know how many you have is to how many categories you want to have. You know, if you wanna have a category for fun color palettes and one for peaceful ones and one for, uh, again, the seasons or one for and coastal color palettes is just up to you on to how many categories that you would want to divide those up into, and you could do follow holders. You could also dio page protectors and a notebook. Or you could just, you know, put him out and punch holes and have a minute. Open a three ring notebook like that so you can also use your computer. You could organize your photos of color inspiration again into the same type of folder. Spring, summer, fall, winter by Dominic Color by different categories, whatever, and Or you can also create boards on Pinterest to store your inspiration that way. That way, you're not taken up so much room on your computer, but then you can also use your smartphone. So I had to do a combination of these and these air my four favorite APS to use for organizing my inspiration. So there's the photos app, which is iPhone. You know, its IOS. So if you hand android own or a different type of phone, I'm really sorry, but I just have no experience with those. So, um, maybe confined the things that would be similar, because I'm really not sure there's also the Google photos app, which is really pretty cool does a lot of neat things and has a search feature of its own on Evernote also is very easy to search for things in there. And then Adobe Capture has got some really cool features. So what I'm gonna do in the next video is actually get him a phone and show you how these APS work and how you can use them to organize your photos. 7. Photos App: Hi, this is Joe did again in this video. I'm going to show you how I use the photos app on my iPhone to you capture and organize my color inspiration. So I'm sitting here flipping through this better Homes and Gardens magazine, and I found a picture of a rug that I just love this color palette and I want to capture that. So I'm going to take a picture with my iPhone of this. Take a photo. So now I'm going to go to my photos APP scroll down to the bottom, and there it is. So whether than just leaving it there with all the photos, what I'm gonna do is put it in an album. Now, I've already created an album called Inspiration. So just up here the top right click on select and then select the photo, and you can select more than one if you want to. So I'm gonna select a couple of these and then down at the bottom, click on add to, and then it's gonna ask you which album you want to add it to. And you can create a new album at this time by clicking on New Alum But like I said, I've already created one called Inspiration, So I'm gonna add it to my inspiration album. So now we go back and look at my inspiration album. You can see there is the photo that was added, So that helps me to stay organized. So when I'm looking for inspiration, I don't have to flip through all of the photos. I could just go to my inspiration album and look at those, so I hope that helps you. 8. Photos App 2: so another way I use the photos app is when I am surfing the Web, especially if I'm on design Seeds website and find a particular color palette that I want to save. Like I have already stated that one. Let's save this one right here. You just press and hold on the image and then click on save image and then the images saved to your photos app. So now if I go to my photos out, scroll down to the bottom and, uh, this album have to go to all photos and there it is. So this, since this already has the color palette, I'm gonna put that in a separate album called Color Palettes. So gonna select and I've got this one. I've got another one, and I've got another one up here that I'm going to select and then down at the bottom click add to and I'm gonna create a new album and I'm going to call it color palettes and then click save and well on My photos are saved in my new album. So that way I have easy way to look at color palettes and can choose one very quickly. 9. Evernote App: okay. And this Maybe I'm going to show you how to use Evernote app to organize your color inspiration so ever notes this green logo with the elephant and I'll just open it up. It's, uh, yes. I was searching last times in here someone to cancel out of that. So, uh, that's really easy to create to save a picture or to save a note or anything in here. So you just click on this big red green button with the pleasant it at the bottom, and you can start writing something, typing some, uh, but see the camera over on the right hand side. If you click that icon, then it's gonna turn your camera on. And so what I'm gonna do is actually take a picture of my shirt here because I really like this color palette. And then you just click save, and there is your photo, and you can write something or not. So I'm gonna fried color inspiration, and then I'm gonna change the note. Berg. I'm just competitive. And its notebook, Actually, I think I'm going to create a new notebook. So if you do go down here at the bottom where it says, Plus new notebook just hit that. To create it in a notebook is like a folder. So I'm going to call this color inspiration because I don't have pain Color Inspiration folder in Evernote because typically, I use the other APS for that. I haven't used Evernote for this, but you can. And I wanted to show you because of some of the other things you could do is that you can save all kinds of stuff and not just further. So if I get that, too, go hurt notes, see, there's photos you can save e books. You can say articles online. So if you found the article that you want to save, maybe something about color than you could do that as well. Also, the search function is very powerful. So if you go to search and you concert something like coloring, I can see one other things do. I haven't hear related to coloring. So I've got some articles. I've got one, um, how to create a color palette that I saved what I was doing research for this class of things like that. So that's pretty cool. Um, again, you could dio search for any kind of thing. Rain bows and let's like I said, Typically, I don't keep a lot of photos in here, but you can. And so I just wanted to give you that option. Maybe you're already Evernote user and use it for other things and it might be easier for you. Teoh. Go ahead and store your organizer color inspiration there as well. 10. Adobe Capture App: in this video, I'm going to show you how to use the adobe capture app. So it's down in the bottom right corner of my screen. There. I opened that up. You see lots of color palettes that I have saved here in my library. So let me show you how to add a new color palette down at the bottom. You just click that big plus sign and then I want to capture from my camera. So I'm gonna take a picture of I'm gonna take a picture of this my cute little pencil bag, because I really like this color palette. Get the like right on it. And if you see up at the top, it is changing colors. They're changing, changing, changing eso When you moving around, then it changes. So if you want those, uh, if you wanted to quit jumping around, then just touch the screen, just tap it and it phrases it, um and so, no, I don't really like how the colors that it's got at the top right now. Um, because it's not getting all those bright past the pastel colors that I'm wanting. So what you can do is you can move. They little dots around something to move that one to the pink. I'm removed this one over here to this mint green. This pink is good. Keep it there. And then what else? This? The screen I'm not really like. And I want that to be more yellow. Now that looks more like the colors that are in this back to me. Sue. That's what I like. So then to say that I just click the button around button at the bottom as if I was gonna take a picture, and that saves it and then brings it up, and then I can go in and edit the color some more if I'd like to. And, uh, up at the top, you can see where it says image. Aren't you be C m i K. So these are the different ways you can edit it. So the image will go back to how it was when you actually captured the image here. And you can move these, uh, little dots around RGB. You're moving these sliders just like it would, uh, if when you're using RGB on the computer and then they're seeing like, hey, I'm used to using see more came or the others. Because when I do my design work, usually for print, that's what I use. So actually, this pink here, the one on the left, the lighter pink I want to be not so muted. Um, it looks a little bit grayish, so I'm gonna fix that. And let's see what we need to do for that will take some of the blue out of it and see how that and some of the yellow out of it and that just makes it more of a true pink. So the seem like, hey is more like when you're working with actual paints because the sea is the blue. The M is like a red and then the yellow. So those are your primary colors and you can, um, add them together to make your secondary in your tertiary colors, and then the lab and the HSB. I don't work with very much, so I don't usually mess with those, but you can if you want, So I like this. Now I am satisfied with how this pallet is. So I'm just gonna click next up here at the top and then I can save it so I can name it. And what shall we name this? I'm gonna say I'm just gonna name it past Still hearts headed can't spill very well today. Hearts and what's kept rising up. Okay, it's almost saved in my library. You can make it discoverable, which means it will be on the adobe color website that other people can see it. We're not so sure I'm gonna leave it that way. So then we save it, and there it is, at the top of my list, the color palette. And when I click on it, I can see a preview. I can get the info wanted. I can go in and change the name if I want. And there's the image that it came some came from. And if I wanted to create another color palette from this same image, I can do you use and then do, um, a new color theme out of that. And maybe this time get the purple in there that we didn't have last time. So there we go. Next. Sick. So this is an easy way to save color palettes from things that maybe you couldn't find one exactly online that already had using one of the online shortcuts that I showed you that already had the pallets made. So this way you know, you can take photos of objects. You can take photos of catalogs, magazines, food just anything and make a color palette from it. So that's pretty cool. And you can also access this online at, um, I believe it's color dot adobe dot com. And, um, that way you can. If you want to save it to your computer, whatever you can do, that is well, And if you click on these three little dots up here, you can go down here and click on share linked to the library, and you can share it with somebody. And so I'm gonna share the link to my library with you. All in the resource is section of the class. 11. Class Project: Hi, it's Jody. It here here to explain your project for the class coloring for adults. How to pick the perfect color palette. So your assignment for your project is to choose to different color palettes, using what you learned in the finding inspiration, capturing inspiration videos to select two different color palettes and to apply it to a coloring page. Now I'm giving you a free download of this car that I designed. It's that says you are such a blessing. It can be used as a Cohen page or have actually got it set up so that it prints on the half a sheet of paper so that you can fold it and make it into a greeting card and then give it to someone. So your project is to actually do two of these, or you can choose to use your own page. But I'd like you do two of the same page so that you can see what it looks like to have used different color palettes. So a great idea is to, ah, print off some of the cower power color palettes that you like. So I finished off a few here. These are some that I like thes are a different color palette. Different feel. This one's a very exciting, Tiesto festive feel. And then I've got some Citrus, one cactus and why we're here. And so I have decided to actually go with the Citrus photo here and then also face to our real close. So I don't know. I'm just saying what colors I have that max some to show you how to do that. So what I did ISS. I've got my pelt, my how it here. So I just started grabbing some pencils and seeing, making some swatches to see if it matched. And I do like that color, although it may, sir. Well, for this this medium magenta here, um, let's say here's here's one it work. I think this is a love that I put here that would work for the darker and then for the lighter, I grabbed all my pinks that I could find, and I had a hard time really matching this color that once because it's just a little kind of a lilac color, so that colors to pink. That one's a little closer, but it's still pretty pinkish. Let's try this one. That's pretty close. And when I a killer light, it almost looks like a gray. But I got kind of like that more of a neutral color. So I think I'm gonna go with that one. So so far, I've got these three colors here and now I need my teal colors and let's see what we've got here. That one looks a little too turquoise ish. Oh, little to green. That's true. One that might be a little bluer, That one. I think that might snitch pretty good. Let's try a darker one here. I like that one for the dark color. I think that matches pretty close. So there I have my covers, my color palette for that, and then to go ahead into a 2nd 1 like I've done here for this Citrus. And actually, I decided that I wanted this to be very right. Bold colors and somebody use Joe pins with it. And so I have chosen the colors. I had to do some sampling here to see, and so I have chosen the ones that I think match the best. So that's what I like you to do and then go ahead into the card and the first color palette . And here's my car that I did and the first color palette with these pencils. And you can see how that gives this card a very soft and gentle feel on. I might send this to someone who is very dear to me that I just really love and just who's just a very has very gentle personality and two, so lovely. And then compare that to the one I did with E. That Citrus color palette. And wow, this one is very vibrant. If you can see the thing that gel pens have glitter, and so they glitter in that, um, the great fruit color here is just of kind of a copying ah, pink Selman color. And so I will probably give this to someone who is just so vibrant and so full of energy and enthusiastic, and I think she would just love it. It will fit her personality very well. So have fun with this project, and I hope it will be a blessing to you can. To someone, it's 12. Applying color palette: for this video. We're gonna talk about applying your color palette once you've chosen it. So I've chosen this color palette my design scenes with the pretty, uh, pink flower teal background. And I've got my, um, pencils picked out here that match. And so now I'm going to start coloring my page. But you want to think about when you're applying color to your page, you've got the colors that you want, but you want to have one color to be the dominant color so that you're going to use more of that color or if it's a real dark color, you won't use quite as much. But since it's dark, it gives more weight to it. So you want your colors to be balanced. Uh, I don't want to talk about colored balance for a minute to kind of let you know what I'm talking about. I'm going to use some of these, uh, patterns here that I found. So this one right here with the little birds, you can see how the dominant color is a gray. So it's got this gray rial, light gray background, and then it's got the, uh, gray, but in a darker gray on each bird has some great in it, so that, um, helps to carry that through. So that would be I would call the dominant or the base color, and then it's got little bits, and then your next colors you well. You want one color to be an accent color, which you use very little bit of it very sparingly. So the accent color on this is the green said. There's just little little bit of it on the tail of a couple of the birds, so that would be the accent color. And then the colors in between are this red and and gold color. So they kind of, um, are used more than the exit color, but less than the base or the dominant color, So that kind of gives it a nice balance. Similarly, over here you've got the dominant color is the background color, and then you've got the the, uh, kind of a salmond color. There's a darker and a lighter, um, used throughout, and then the teal and then the accent color. And the Thiel is used for the birds and the and some of the leaves or the Berries. Whatever these are, and then you have just little bits of this gold color for the accent color. So on this one, pink is gonna be the face or the dominant color. There's a light shade of pink for the background, and then lots of pink flowers. Um, the middle colors, we're gonna be the green and the Thiel, and then the accent color is the orange. Just very tiny little bits of orange with that kind of adds a pop of color there. And so that's kind of what I'm talking about, what I'm talking about color balance. So here, what I decided is I want the pain to be the dominant color. So one that I colored here so you can see that I've used the the pink and the cool thing with using colored pencils as you can make varying shades of the same color. So I used this darker color to color around here very lightly and then outlined the darker and uh went through the made little lines here, where they had the lines in the middle of each pedal and around here and then this color is the dark. And then that's used again on the the butterfly to outline it again over here and then used lightly in the middle. So that's that is my dominant color because I've used it a lot in both the light and in the darker shades and then the the other pink I used also lighter and darker. And then my accent color was actually this same pink. But in the, uh, pressed very hard to, I played hard pressure to it. That makes this pretty a very bright pink, very hot pink color right here. And so that's my accent color. And it's only used three times here one, 23 and so you got him spread out in that kind of balances balances. The color is there, and then the, uh, the other color is the the teals, and I had two different Thiel's here that I used, and although I could have almost in the same thing with the same pencil, that this is the this flower here is the lighter teal, with light pressure in the center of the pedals and darker pressure on the outside. And then these leaps here, or the darker the darker teal and And if you have a good picture to begin with. It's designed well. It helps you to, um, achieve the balance because you can have, like, all of the the leaves can be the same color and that if there designed well, it kind of balances out like it does here. So that kind of makes it easier than when you're just starting from scratch and have to design or draw the whole picture yourself. So that is a little bit about color balance and how to apply the color to your page once you've chosen your palate, and I just love the ones from design seeds. Um, and Jessica, the owner of the blogger who does makes thes color palettes, actually has a class on skill share called inspired color and kind of walk through more of using color harmonies and how she creates the pellets and how we can use them in our in our work. And so I recommend checking out that class as well, and she talks about the colors. If they're side by side, then that means they're our friends, so they can be used well together next to each other. Um, and if you use them if you use a color this color and this color next to each other. You want to do it very sparingly because that's gonna be, um, great contrast. And so it's just, uh that's not what you want to do throughout the whole page. But like here, I've used them together and so you can see that really stands out. Um, then then some of the uppers. But if you use that over the whole page, it would be just too much for your eye.
