Canva for Entrepreneurs : Design an Email Header

1. Introduction: in this lesson, we're going to be creating an email header. The email header is the image at the top oven email that can be used for multiple purposes , such as branding, advertising or just letting the audience know what this email is all about. So it's very important that we create a good image here so that we can definitely get this audience toe. Want to continue reading our emails? First, I'm going to show you some examples of some great email headers that have great graphic design principles such as color, typography, composition and more. After that, we'll start using camera and use some of their pre made templates and layouts to create some email headers. I'll show you some of the tools and features that you can use to begin creating your own email header right away after that will save it out as a low resolution J. P. G. File. We want to use a low resolution J B G file here because we want to make sure that the file size is small enough to go through different email provider systems. Finally, at the end of this course, I prompt you to please upload your image to the course so that other students and myself can see what you've created. It's a great way to get critiques and feedback on what you have made, and it's also very motivating just to get your images out there in the world. So if you're ready to get started, let's go ahead and begin. 2. Examples of Email Headers: before we begin, Let's go ahead and take a look at some examples of some email headers. So the email header is basically going to be the image that resides at the top of your email. And the reason why this image is important is because you really just want to get the audience's attention or whoever's on your email list their attention so that they are interested in your email and they want to keep scrolling. So here I've just gone to google dot com, a Titan email header, and this is a good way to come in here and just look at some different images. They have all kinds of different ones. They're scattered throughout some other image searches, so you have to kind of dig around. But I pulled up just one image that you can see here. We've got this nice ah picture of this pizza here at the top for this taste. Good email, and then you have some other images that you can see talking about whatever the email subject is going to be on. So this is one place where you can come in here and just kind of do a search and Like I said, you're going to see some random things in here, but you can basically just go in and and click on some of these. But you just want a nice email header that's going to kind of match whatever you're talking about in your actual email. And if you can keep the branding consistent and the colors with the rest of the stuff that's in the email, that's great also. So then we can go over to Camba and we can take a look at some of their templates, and we'll get into editing these templates and designing later on. But for now, we can come in here and just get some inspiration also, so you can see that the email header image is going to be based on whatever it is that you're talking about. So if you're talking about a newsletter, you want to maybe state that in the actual newsletter image. Um, if you you know this one says online class registration, and you can see it's got a picture of a computer because it's an online class. This one's very vibrant with the yellow color, so it really like jumps right at you as soon as you can see it. Um, and then you've got some that are a little softer like this. So maybe this is just, ah, daily or weekly email that Naomi sends out just for some positive happy reinforcement. So this is another great place to come in and get some inspiration. And they have a lot of these that you can go through and check out yourself, and then in the next lesson will go ahead, and we'll just pick one of these and just kind of change out some of the things and, ah, and and see why we would design these the way we would want to design them. But definitely, anytime you begin designing, it's a great idea to come in and get some inspiration, get some ideas, maybe find out some things you like. Or maybe some things that you don't like for your own email headers. 3. Using Canva to Design an Email Header: Okay, Once we're ready to go ahead and start designing, go to that. Create a design templates, and we're going to scroll down, and we're going to go to social media and email headers, and here you can see the email header. It has a resolution of 600 pixels by 200 pixels, which is a pretty generic size for these types of things. Now, based on your email provider, you might have a different resolution that you'll want to use, so you want to use a custom to mention in that case. But for now, let's just go ahead and left. Click on this and it's going to open up the camera designed dashboard, and once it does, we can go ahead, start designing from scratch, or we can pick one of these pre made templates on the left hand side. And here you can see there are free templates, and if we hover over some, they'll have ah, dollar sign, which shows that you will have to pay a dollar for that template. So I'll just go ahead and scroll down and find a template that I would like to use. And some of these templates do this kind of cool effect that I like I see, such as this one. I'm gonna click on this one to use this one. And what this basically is is there's a background elements going on here, which in this case, is an image. And then you have this Ah, the square boxes that are covering over that element. And it gives a very nice clean look. You get this great texture in the background and you are able to still see the words and everything in the middle here. So let me show you how this works. If I click on this background texture of these leaves, you can see that it's a giant image. And if I zoom out here for a minute, I got a 100%. You can see that That is a just a big image. I'm gonna go ahead, delete that out. For now, I can go to the background section and if I want to pay a dollar, I can pay for one of these textured backgrounds like this and have this texture back there , which looks really good, especially if you're doing something that is close to your nature category. So if I'm doing woodworking, maybe I use would if I'm doing ah, culinary, maybe I do some type of food back there. You can also picked some of these free ones, and some of these free ones look pretty good. And the the good thing about some of these is you can actually change out the colors easily on these. So if I pick the striped one, I can click on it, and it will actually allow me to change out the colors relatively easy, which is nice now. Another thing that we can do is we can actually go to the Elements section and click on grids and drop in a single grid here, and what the soil allows to do is dropping image, and it will fill right into this grid Now the problem is, of course, is great is covering up the rest of our design elements. So go ahead and click on the back button a couple times until it gets to the back of the design elements, and you'll see this stuff popping in. And then when it's to the very back, you'll see the back word is no longer highlighted. Its now gray, which means we can't click on it anymore. Let's go to free photos and we'll just find a photo that we can drop in here. That's going to look really nice to use. Now, we might be using this email header for a newsletter on announcements. Um, you know, course courses and course launches air pretty popular right now, So maybe we are about to do a course launch, and we want to send out an email to our subscriber base and just let him know about this course launch. I like this image here of these kind of smoky mountains. So I'm just gonna left, click and drag this. And when I get into that, uh, that grid there, it's actually going to start pulling it in. So if I just left, let go, it will go ahead and drop that in behind. And I just love this style. I love the way this looks. Now, these colors air similar to that background. But of course, you're gonna want to change out the colors to whatever you're using now. And we can make this look a little better as far as the colors go. So I'm just going to click on this element here, which is this square and you can see it's made up of two colors White Inter square in the light blue outer square. I'm going to click on that light blue outer square and I'll just go ahead and pick my own colors here. And what I'm doing is I'm looking at these these dark mountain range colors, and I'm just going to try to get something close to that that I think will match and look pretty good. So I just kind of move this around until I see something that matches up so that that's starting to look a lot better now. Also, if you wanted to change the inner color, you could do that. Um, you could make this, you know, a different color, and then you might need to adjust the A text appropriately. But I think the white looks good. Ah, same thing with this under square. Let's go ahead and match this color. So now we have some uniformity going on, and because we already picked a color, it saved at four. So now I can just left click and pull that color in, and now it's starting to make a lot of sense together. Now we need to do is fill in our information. So that's Ah, pick something that we want to do here. We're going to say, um, live the passion and we'll just call us. Maybe this is a course launch that we're doing for her, her motivational blawg or something similar. And then we just need to put in the date We could leave all this information here, But, you know, um, maybe we're just launching on a certain date and we want to tell people about that so we can fill this in, however we see fit. And there we go, nice and easy. We could also change these colors. Let's see how that looks. If we wanted to keep that same color scheme, I kind of like the light grey. I think it looks good. It's a little hard to read, but if you wanted to make it all the same color, you could definitely do that. I might pick maybe a little darker grey just to see. Yeah, I think that darker, great kind of is a little easier to read. Stands out a little more. So there you go. Very easy. I love the way these design elements work where you have this texture in the background. And then you have this design element in the front ground which kind of fills it out, makes the words easy to see what you get this nice image that you can throw there in the background. And then now this is ready to go. I can go ahead and export this out or save it and put it in my email of for my email list and go ahead and launch that out. So hopefully that gives you some ideas of some different things that you can do for your designs and in the next lesson will go ahead and take a look at how well export this out and save it, and then you can upload it to this course so we can see what you've created. 4. Exporting Your Email Header: All right, let's go ahead and export out this image so that we are able to go ahead and add it to our email. So once you are done, you can go up to the top. You can rename it by left clicking up here, and we can call this live the Passion course launch just so we know what it is. And then we can go ahead and share this on different social media platforms. We can make it public if we want other people inside of camera to see this. So if you're doing something like a launch that might be useful, you can get more eyes on it. Maybe you want to put a website down here also so that people who are outside of your email could see this. But otherwise just go and click on the download button, and we can go ahead and download this as a low resolution J. P G file that ways. It's a smallest file size available so that whenever we send it through email, it will load quickly. So I'm going to click on that if you have bought anything, such as a template or an image or graphic design element. Now is the time that you would see it would pop up and ask you for your credit card information. You can buy credits and save a little bit of money also. But once it is finished, we can go ahead and share this. If we would like to. We're not going to do that because we're using this in our email. So go ahead and exit out of this, and then once I do, you can see it's downloaded it here in my downloads folder. So when I click on that, it will open it up, and there we go already to G O for me to add this to my email. So nice and simple. This is a really easy process, but it also looks really great. So once you have created something, try to create something unique and on your own. Maybe try to use the same method that I used here with changing out the background image. But come up with something different that you feel like you would use in your email header and go ahead and save out that design. And then what I want you to do is upload that to this course so that I can see what you re created because I think it's really fun just to kind of see what different students are working on. And if you've learned anything from this lesson, I think it's really beneficial to upload your artwork. Maybe get some critiques and feedback from us if you would like that.
