1. Welcome: Hello. My name is German Deegan, and welcome to this course. I'm going to teach you how to use a program called Camba, which makes it really simple to set up, edit and publish images that look professional in a very short amount of time. I have well over 10 years of experience in the design industry that encompasses everything from graphic design and advertising, toe lighting, design and logo animation. I love design theory and want to teach others everything I know about color lighting, balance, composition and the technical aspects, such as using software design is all around us. And with the rise of websites and social media, design has become an integral part of our everyday lives. Whether or not we notice it, design is used in almost all forms of advertising, marketing and everyday social activities. This course has been made to get you publishing stunning graphics in no time with campus, pre made templates and extensive art library. You'll love the process of creating your own custom images for your website, e book podcast and social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. You may be thinking, well, I don't have the time to make my own graphics or that buying graphics software can be really expensive. The good news is that this software makes it ridiculously easy to create images, and it's all for free. There is no application to download and no price to pay unless you buy Camas premium images , but you don't need to. 2. Creating an Account: So let's start by setting up an account, visit www dot com the dot com and you immediately see a sign up screen. Here. You can connect with Facebook signing with Google or sign up using an email address, which I will do now. If you already have an account and just need to sign in, then click this link here. Go ahead, hit the sign of button. Once logged in, you will be taken to your dashboard, where you can change your account settings instantly, create a pre made design layout, see your past designs and also find other information on what camera currently has going on .
3. The Canva Dashboard: at the top left of the main dashboard, you will see three links your designs stream in design school. Your designs will display all of the designs you have created in the past. In the bottom section, Stream shows all public designs that are being worked on by other designers. This is great for inspiration in collaborating with other designers. Design school is a great place for more learning. They also have a great blawg that provides excellent content, and I suggest you check it out at the top, right. You will see your display name, profile image, a drop down box for settings and notifications. We will come right back to these options in just a moment. Next is a section called Create a Design. This is where you will choose which page layout you're going to make. It can be anything from presentations to instagram posts. The great thing about Camba is that it updates. He's constantly as platforms such as Facebook and Instagram update their image dimensions. If you hover over any of these, you can see the current dimensions being used. You can also use custom dimensions. If you know specific size, you want your page to be the bottom of the page shows where your past designs are. This is where you will be able to copy and delete designs. Because this is a new account, no designs are being shown. This is also the section where you will see the live stream of other users. Creating content on the right side at the bottom shows other things camera is currently promoting. Right now there's a link for early access of their camera at work program and the ability to find your friends through your email client. Let's go back to the top and click settings. Here. You can change your email, address your password and view invoices for purchases from camera. Cama provides a lot of free content, such as photographs, icons and illustrations. They also provide better quality artwork that you can purchase for $1 each or even cheaper . If you're pre buying credits in bulk, all purchases made can be viewed here. Now let's check out view profile. You can choose edit info, and this will let you change or add your profile. Image display Name. User name, website. Town in country. You can also see who's following you and who you are following. There are links in the middle to share your profile with Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. The bottom of this page shows any designs you have made public inter streaming.
4. The Design Dashboard: Now we're going to take a look at the design dashboard. Click on any of the pre made design layouts, and you will see a new window open up. This is where all the fun happens. The top left Campbell logo is a link that will take you back to the main dashboard. The top right consists of a place to describe and tag your design. Later, there will be an undo button. If you make a mistake and need to go back, you can share via Facebook, Twitter e mail or direct link. You can download your design as an image or high quality PdF, which is really good for printing. Finally, you can make the design public or private. Here. The left toolbar is where you add content to your design. Here you can search for content, choose pre made layouts, add text, add backgrounds and upload your own images. If you click search, you can see that you can either use the search box at the top or you can browse by category . The bottom of the left toolbar has buttons to allow you to zoom in and out of the page. The design area on the right is a workspace of camera. You can drag and drop content from the left toolbar directly in the design area, or just click once on an element and it will be added. Kaveh allows you to have multiple pages said that you can create things like E books and then save it all out. As one design in a pdf, I will click. Add a new page twice said that you can see all of the options for pages. If I go to Page two, you can see up and down arrows to move the pages up or down and the hierarchy. So if you decide you want Chapter three to come before Chapter two in your E book, you can reorganize that easily. You can also rearrange the pages by clicking on its page number and dragging it above or below other pages. Here, you can make a copy of the page. This is also a great tool for things like E books, where you want to create a template design that is uniform throughout the E book and just changed the content. Finally, you can delete a page here at the bottom. Right of the page is a need help button that allows you to quickly search through canvas, frequently asked questions, database
5. Navigation: in this section, I'm going to teach you how to edit elements and use shortcuts to make your workflow faster . Let's begin by selecting a presentation. I'm going to select a layout so that I can show you how to get around the design work space . This will allow me to easily get started on the type of image I'm trying to create in an instant. I already have a stunning design, and all they have to do is swap out the texture images. It's that simple. If I click on any of the elements, you will see that each element has different attributes that can be edited the most common attributes or copy to make an exact copy of Elements Ford and Back to rearrange elements based on layers, delete and some other options, such as adding hyperlinks, making elements transparent in flipping elements horizontally and vertically. To move elements, you can just left, click and drag the element around the design area. You will notice lines that appear when moving elements around. These lines are great for centering your elements and aligning them with other objects in the design. You can also single click an Element and then use your computers arrow keys to move elements one pixel at a time. If you hold down shift while doing this, the element will move 10 pixels at a time. Multiple elements can be groups and edited together by left clicking and dragging a marquee selection around the objects or by shift and left clicking each element individually. This icon allows us to rotate the elements. You can resize an element by grabbing its corners. Most of the elements allow you to change the color, including icons, illustrations, backgrounds and text. If I select the color swatch on the element, it will open up a dialogue box with a color palette of your last used colors. By clicking the plus sign, you will have the option to select the color via the color wheel. You can also change the brightness here and use a six digit color code, which is commonly used in all types of other software applications. Camera also uses a layering system so that elements can be in front or behind other elements, selectee, ford and back options. To see this in action, you can also use the shortcut control plus see up and down arrow keys on your PC or command Plessy. Up and down Air keys on your Mac. If you have made a mistake, you can undo this option by clicking this arrow at the top. Alternatively, you can use the shortcuts, control or command plus Z toe. Undo a step that you have made. If you under a step by accident and would like to redo it again. You can use a shortcut control or command plus shift plus Z.
6. Adding Artwork: Now that you know how to get around Camba, let's start with a blank canvas and add some content quick on the search button in the left toolbar. I can search for a key word, and it will show any artwork that has that keyword labeled. This is great for easily finding exactly what you're looking for. You can see here that the free elements are pushed to the top of the searches, and if I scroll down and hover over a premium image, you can see that it costs $1. You can add these directly to your design, and you will not be charged until you go to publish your design. We will go into more of this later. Let's look at all the types of our work you can add by category. This includes grids, frames, shapes, lines, illustrations. Icahn's photos charts in an I love canvas section to show your love grids are one of the single most important features that makes canvas so powerful. These are layouts that you add to your design to give them a superior visual quality. As you can see, there is a lot of options here. There's so much you can do so let's add a grid. Once the greatest placed on the page, you can adjust its size by selecting the corner and moving it around. If you hold shift, you can lock the aspect ratio. They can also be rotated. You can change the grid to either a color, or you can drop an image inside of the grid. I'm going to jump over to the photos category real quick and show you how powerful grids really are. If I select a photo and drag it over the grid, you can see how it will fill inside of the grade. If you want to edit the image inside of the grid, you just need to double click on it. This will show an overlay the image so that you can move it or resize it. Once he edit is made, just click the check mark, and it will apply the edit of the photo inside of the grid. I can throw in a couple more images very quickly, and you can instantly see the importance of this. Feature frames are just a school. His grades, they basically do the same function. But instead of it being pre made layouts. It's just a single frame that can be edited. Think of a grid as a bunch of frames stitched together. Another cool thing about frames is that some of them contain artwork around them. For an even more stylized appearance, frames cannot be colored, but you draw photos in and edit them. The same way shapes our basic artwork that can have its colors changed. There's a huge variety of shapes that can be used, and most of them allow you to edit multiple colors, giving you a lot of options that are easily customizable. Lines are similar to shapes burger more for creating borders and breaks within designs. Illustrations are more complex designs and shapes, some of them or vector artwork, which will allow you to change its color easily. Other illustrations are roster images, meaning they have a bigger variety of colors for cool effects, like Grady INTs. But you're unable to change their colors. Icons are also like shapes and a great resource for in putting images like Facebook and Twitter icons. Photos offer another great way of providing compelling images for your designs. Camera offers a huge range of photographs to choose from both free and paid for photos are able to be cropped so you can even choose just a section of a photo and use it like a texture or pattern. The rial fund comes when we click on the filter button, though this provides photo editing capabilities and includes a variety of photo filters to quickly get an awesome look. You can independently adjust brightness and contrast, and if you select advanced options, you can also adjust the saturation a tent blur, ex process and vignette. If you create a filter that you love, you can copy the filter code for later use. This is a great way to get coherent images across your designs. Charts are another type of vector art that allows you to change the color and provides things such as grass and percentage icons. These air great to use for infographics and presentations. 7. Adding Text: this section is going to talk about text and typography. Camera offers a lot of tools for creating compelling text, and typography is so important and design that a whole course can be made just for it. So let's take a look at how to add text to our page. The first and easiest method to add text is to use the text holders that camera offers. These are added in the same way that artwork is added to your page. Just simply drag and drop the text holders onto the page or left Click one time on the text layout that you like. As you can see, Camera already provides some great formats for text to really take your designs to the next level at the top or three options for creating basic text that is commonly used in documents such as websites, e books and presentations. Add Tex access the title of your information. Then you can add subtitle text and add a little bit of body text. This will quickly give you sizing for your documents so that you can easily break up sections in your work. You can also immediately put Texan your page by pressing the T key on your keyboard while hovering your mouse over the page. This drops in a text box and makes it really easy to start adding content. Let's take a look at how we edit the text and options that we have. I'm going to just type a quick little paragraph here so that you can see the changes that can be made. The first option is the ability to change. The font style camera offers a lot of different fonts to choose from, and using a combination of fonts in your design can really help make it stand out. Another thing to note is that different fonts can be changed within the same body of text, so the main text can be Helvetica, and one word can be changed out to group. The font size is the next option. The font size cannot be changed within the body of text, so if you want to create big and little text within your design, you will need to create two separate text boxes. Doing this is another way to really make your typography stand out in your designs. The third option is a color of text and just like the textile. You can change colors of text within the body by highlighting it and selecting the appropriate color Hitting. The plus sign will also open up the other color options, such as using the color wheel or in putting a color code number. This is really beneficial if you know the color codes oven element in your design, and you really want to match the colors to keep the branding cohesive. Next is a delete button. It's important to remember to use this button when you want to actually remove text from your design. The reason is that when you select a text, you automatically enter edit mode. If you just click the delete button on your keyboard, you will only remove the body of the text but not the text box. You can highlight all the texts, hit the delete button on your keyboard and Campbell will remove the text box. But I think it's a better habit to just getting into hitting the delete button from the options menu. Finally, is a drop down menu and text really provides a lot more options. Here you can board and I Tallis size attacks to emphasize certain words that you want, you can change these within certain text of the body. The third option is to make all of the text upper case. You cannot edit this on an individual basis, and this option will override any capitalization that you have done already. If you click this option again, it will go back to your default formatting. Next in line is creating bulleted list. This is great if you're giving a list of ideas that you want to express or sharing things like the top 10 ways to do something after that is justification. This will tell the whole body of texts whether you want to align everything to the left, center or right side of the textbooks. This is a great feature tohave when designing, because you can align text with images that are on the page, given a very cool look finally is text spacing. This is another great tool because it allows you to give more characteristics to your typography. Letter spacing will move the letters away from each other horizontally. You can make your tax feel nice and spaced apart or crank closely together. Line Height will create spacing between lines of text within your text box vertically. This also provides another visual element to make the text fuel spaced or crowded together . The text options also offered the basics of allowing you to copy text at a hyperlink in your text, making the text transparent in using layers to move the text forward and backward within the design.
8. Creating Backgrounds: backgrounds allow you to fill the backspace of your design with color and patterns. Because he's air set to be in the very back of your design hierarchy, you're not able to move these forward and backward within the layers of your design to create a background. Just select a color or background from the gallery on the left. Some backgrounds are vector backgrounds. This means that you can actually change the color within the background to give you even more variety in your designs. Other backgrounds are roster images, which means you have access to the filter options for adjusting different image properties , such as brightness and contrast, or by using one of the pre made filters. The other options backgrounds offer or the ability to move them around, resize and rotate them, create a hyperlink, change the transparency and flip the background horizontally or vertically. It's also important to note that if you adjust a background and then select a new background, your old background will be replaced with the new one. You can only have one background at a time For any layering type effects. It's better to use photos or images. Backgrounds provide a great tool for you to be able to create awesome looking images within your design and then stack text or images on top, so definitely check out this feature.
9. Uploads: Another extremely useful tool in Camba is the ability to upload your own images. This is very handy if you already have a collection of artwork or images that you would like to use. I find it very helpful to use canvas pre made layouts and then insert my own graphics and images at the top of this window. You can choose upload your own images and search through your computer. Or you can simply drag and drop images from your computer right to this space. Your image will instantly be uploaded to the database, and all you have to do is at it like you would any other artwork. Another good thing about this feature is that it will keep these images stored so you can use them across multiple designs later. Campbell also provides the ability to upload images from your Facebook account. You will need to enter your log in information and grant access to allow camera to use these images
10. Putting it All Together: Now that you know the basics of how camera works, let's take a look at creating some artwork. Let's say that we heard a very cool quote the other day, and we would like to make a graphic for this to put on her Facebook page. I'm going to use a quote attributed to Albert Einstein that says the true sign of intelligence is not knowledge but imagination. On the main dashboard page, I'm going to select Facebook post, since that will give me the exact dimensions I need to fill my Facebook news feed. Next, I'm going to scroll through the pre made layouts to find a quote type layout that I find pleasing. I can just click once, and it will automatically be added into our page. The first thing we want to do, of course, is change out the techs, so highlight all of the texts and put in the new quote because I want to leave the name text holder where it is in our quotas a little smaller than the pre made layout, I will need to move the text box down or make the text bigger. I'll just move the text down, which will create a nice white space border around the image, and it'll help focus of you were on the words. Next, highlight the name and change it out to Albert Einstein. As you can see, I already have a beautiful image that took less than a minute to create. Since it already looks great, I can go ahead and post us as is. But since I want to make this design truly mine, I'm going to add an image of a photo I took myself. First, I want to delete out the image they have, so select the image and then hit the delete button and options. Now I will click on uploads and then upload the image that I want to the library. I can edit and move around the image until it looks the way I want. One thing that I can do to really make this text stand out better and something you may have noticed in the other photo is to apply a blur filter. This is a cool graphic design trick for these types of posts because it allows you to keep the beauty of the image. But refocus of viewers attention back to the text so select filter, then go into advanced options and then raise the blur amount. As you do this, you can immediately see the effect it has on the eyes. And just like that, I have made an amazing graphic that I can save or share on my Facebook page. Now you can see how helpful this could be to anyone who doesn't have graphic design experience. And with all the pre made options can be gives you, you can create wonderful content easily and quickly so that you can move on to doing the things that you love to do.
11. Selecting the Format: Now we're going to dive deep into creating designs. Let us start by taking a look at all of the design formats. We have briefly looked at the most commonly used formats, such as Facebook posts, social media images, presentations, blawg graphics, Facebook covers and posters. Remember campus currently updating information so this can change in the future. If we click the Big plus sign, we can see a lot more pre made layouts. These are broken down into general categories. Events, blogging and e books, marketing materials, social media and email headers. Social media posts documents in ads. As you can see, Camba has recently uploaded a lot of new layouts to their database. If we click, use custom dimensions, you can create a page by entering its width and height, selecting pixels millimeters or inches and then clicking design.
12. Downloading Your Designs: When you click the download button, you're given two options. Download as an image or high quality pdf file. The image is saved as a dot PNG file in the high quality. Pdf is saved as a dot pdf file. PDS are great for printing in creating multiple page documents like E books. There are other options available, such as downloading Onley certain pages in publishing your documents with any crop marks or bleeds. If you have not used any of cameras paid content from the library, then you can download the design for free. However, if you have added any premium library content, then you will be charged and prompted to pay for the design. A new window will appear to purchase your premium elements at the top. You can view the one time user license, which I highly recommend. You take a moment to read. This will explain when you can and cannot use canvas content. There's also a link to download a water mark draft. This allows you to download the image without paying for the content, but we'll keep the watermarks placed on campus images. Now you can see how the image works with your brand and get all the edits correct before actually buying below. That is an itemized list of all the elements that you used in your design from campus premium content. It will total the amount for you that will be charged to your credit card. Next is an option to purchase credits in bulk and save on money. This is great for anyone doing a lot of design with campus. Finally, and put your credit card information and select make payment. Your card will be charged and the download will continue.
13. Designs in the Main Dashboard: Now that we have created a graphic, let's go back to the main dashboard to see our design in the list. You can go back to this home page by just clicking the camera icon in the top left corner. This brings you back to the main page and at the bottom you can see your design. The lock in the top left of the design lets you know that the image is set to private. This lock goes away when your design is set to public and a like button is added said that members browsing designs in the string can like yours. You can also rename your design in this text field. The drop down options for the design include the ability to copy your design or delete it immediately after you delete your design, you can hide it or undo the delete if you decide to keep it instead.
14. Sharing Your Designs: Now that you have created an awesome graphic, you will want to share with the world. The first thing we should do, whether sharing or saving, is naming our design. This can be done in the describe in tax section or on the main dashboard, which I will show you a little later. Click on share to see all of the sharing options for your design. Camera currently gives the option to share via Facebook or Twitter, and you'll need to log into your account to do this from campus site. You do not have to pay for any design elements. Use from the library if you are sharing a design Onley if you decide to download it. Next is a text box that shares your design through email. Below that is a text it reads. Share email as an edible design. If you check this option, then the person who receives the email will be able to open up camera on their end and make edits. This is great if you're collaborating with other designers, the bottom provides a link that you can give to other people to view your design. Another way to share design is to make it public. When you change this button from private to public, you make it viewable by other members of the camp. A community. This means that the image will show up in the stream and others convey you it. This can really help get your name into the community if you're a graphic designer or someone who wants people to see your work.
