Ballpoint Pen : Draw Stylized Animals

1. Intro: Hello and welcome to this glass. This is a project based class in which I'll teach. You have to draw stylized animals using a ballpoint pen. I really like using Babwin pens for my drawings. It's one of my all time favorite art mediums in this class. I'll show you a few different techniques and some tips n tricks I've learned over the years . Then I'll show you how I created a sample project for this class or share. Review. My step by step process on drawing a stylized sparrow with a ballpoint pen. Finally, I'll give you some ideas and inspiration for your future drawings. So grab a pen, a piece of paper and let's start. 2. Drawing Technique: So here the basic supplies. I use a few different ballpoint pens, a piece of paper on and a pencil and the razor for the sketch. I really like ballpoint pens because they are very inexpensive. On widely available, anyone can have access to a ballpoint pen. To me, it's also way easier to control. The in flow is a ballpoint pen. You can create really light strokes that almost look like Ben, so shading, and you can just as easily create very dark strokes by applying more pressure. Oh, technique I use is very simple. I just connect to imaginary points with curvy lines. It's a very simple technique, but it will help you create very complex to signs like a very relaxing, doodling technique. And in the next videos, I'll show you how I used it to create very interesting and unique designs. Oh, but first, let's talk about shapes. There are a 1,000,000 different ways to connect this to imaginary points, and the secret is to switch between different shapes. I drawing wavy lines here, just a few examples. You can very easily create your own, and you can see that the first shape created ISS while quite boring. It's a little bit stiff looking, but the other shaped look more loose and flexible and organic simply because the lines are more curvy. You can also very easily create light and dark patterns by adding more or less lines in a shape. Here in the first shape, I drew only a few lines, but compare it to the second shape and you see that the more lines you add, the darker the shape who look and you can basically add as many lines as you like. Here's a drawing I created especially for this class. I'll show you how I created the contrast between the wing here and the rest of the body. Oh, I also show you how a draw different types of patterns like in this one, they look like bandages. There's also another example of how I created contrasts between the different body parts. And here's another type of patterns I like to draw, so I'll show you my process. See you in the next video class 3. Pattern #1: Let's start with the first battle I'll be teaching you. It's the easiest warm, in my opinion. It's the one I used the most for my drawings. And it's basically the direct implementation of the basic technique a showed in the last video I choose to points on, and I connect them with curvy lines, creating this kind of wavy shape. If you don't know where to start, simply connect two points of the outline of your drawing on. Go on from there. Remember to draw curvy lines so the shapes to create will be more flowing. And and here's something you need to avoid, at least for this specific pattern. Don't draw perpendicular lines. Oh, instead, try something like this so the angle isn't as blatant. These are just small things, but they will help you Great consistency in the pattern. Now, instead of continuing to connect the same two dots indefinitely, I choose a new one, a new point somewhere in between, and I connected to one of the previous points, creating a new shape. By doing this, I create flowing shapes that look more natural and organic. Oh, three. Only thing left now is to feel the outline with the same wavy patterns. And here's a final tip, because this happens to me very often multiple times for drawing. Actually, I find myself in this kind of dead end that over looks like a triangle. The issue here is that we want to avoid perpendicular lines as much as possible. Way to fix this is again to just two of the three points available and to draw very curly lines. That way, even if it's not perfect, it's still doesn't ruin the pattern way. So this was the first pattern I used for my stylized drawings. Head to the next video class to see how I create patterns with eyes. 4. Pattern #2: and now I'll show you have I create the second pattern. I call it the eyes everywhere pattern. Oh, the basic technique is the same. I connect points with curvy lines. Thisted time. I make sure to use perpendicular lions oh, way, any dead and can be turned into an I oh, many different ways to create a knife atom. You can draw an actual I or any geometrical shape. Oh, you can also keep closing to that end until there's no space left. But make sure to use perpendicular lines for a better visual effect. Just give closing the gap until you have a someone oval shape. That's the I and then draw any shape you want inside for the iris. Oh oh , oh, wait, Thies I pattern. It's a great way to highlight a specific part of your drawing, but we'll talk about this more in the last video class. For now, let's take a look at the third bathroom 5. Pattern #3: the third pattern are we talking about? Makes it look like the drawing is covered in bandages or strings. To me, this one is a bit more difficult because you have to draw very long lines. They have to have steady hands, but other than that, it's very similar to the first pattern I showed you only with longer lines. Oh, again, it's important. Three lines to be curving because trade lines don't create very interesting patterns for dis pattern. I start by drawing a few very long intertwine bandages covering the whole drawing. These bandages will be the most visible part of the pattern. Oh, then I simply feel the rest of the drawing with smaller lines. - Oh , that way, when drawing is finished, you can see that those first very long lines really stand out now that have shown you three different batteries you can create with a ballpoint pen. Class Project : My Stylized Sparrow: Since this class really is about creating your own stylized animal, I'll show you how I drew a sparrow from start to finish. Drawing us Barrow is very easy. I'll show you how to create a preliminary sketch and then fill it with your favorite patterns. Feel free to draw a sparrow as well, or choose another animal if you like. And don't forget to share your drawing. Let's start with the sketch. I draw a circle for the head and in a larger circular shape for the body. Then I place the tail on the legs. These are the basic shapes of my sparrow. I didn't start detailing the different body parts. I link the head to the body and then I drove the tail, the legs, the wing and the big Oh, no way. Oh, when my sketches finished, it's time to decide which parts I want to highlight. I choose the wing, the legs and the I. I will highlight the I by living at blank, so I start drawing patterns around it, using a black ballpoint pen. - Oh oh, wait Oh, highlight the legs by drawing darker patterns. Remember, I did this by drawing more lines Oh, we owe way. Oh, wait for the wing. I decided to use another pattern. The one with the eyes. Final Tips: it's time for some final dips in tricks. I'll show you different ways. The highlight parts of your drawing, how to deal with edges and how to make the most of your ballpoint pen. First, let's talk about edges. There are different ways to deal with the edge of the outline of your drawing. It's all of them thin to accentuate it too much. For example, lines that are perpendicular to the outline well, really accentuate it, which isn't always very aesthetic. But I do instead, is this. I draw lines that will go a little bit beyond my pencil sketch. I still try to follow the general shape and direction of the outline, but I just go a little bit further than my sketch. And now I'll show you how to create contrast in your drawing and highlight different parts of it while still using just one type of pattern. First, you can change the direction of your patterns. This will really create a contrast in your piece. Oh, you can also change the scale of your patterns, large patterns and small patterns. But side by side will create a nice contrast, a swell. Finally, you can switch between shapes that are more or less wavy. You can also highlight a specific shape or part of your drawing simply by accentuating it with darker patterns or by living in blank. Never underestimate the power of negative space. Oh, wait, oh, both of these techniques in destroying, accentuating the beak by outright coloring it in black and living some blank spaces that make for a more interesting visual effects. Oh, depending on the shape of your animal, you might need to accentuate some parts to make it recognizable. For example, I like to accentuate the eyes, the nose and sometimes even for bottoms like for this cat. And here's some final tips. Get to know your ballpoint pen. Practice doodling a little bit before you start to get used to the inflow to see if your panel aches, etcetera. Work on small scale at first. Create smaller battles for a better visual results.
