1. 8 Tips Introduction : Welcome to aid effective time management tips. These are eight tips for effective time management. And so what will you get in this course? First, you'll learn how to prioritize work. Next, you will resist the temptation of bad time management habits. Third, you'll do a swat analysis on yourself. Next, your breakdown goals. Then you'll use resources to your advantage. Next, you're clean for clutter and you will not put things off, don't procrastinate. Finally, you will learn how to never give up. And so I look forward to teaching you in this course. So let's begin. 2. 8 Tips project explained : To get the most out of this course, you will complete a project. This is a group of assignments that you'll find as you go along in the course. And so you have a workbook that is provided and you will use this workbook to complete the assignments. And so here's an example of assignment number one, my priorities. It is a PDF writable so you can type right in it or you can print it out and write it. So complete each action step as you go along in the course to get the most out of the course, you can complete it by writing it. Writing it helps you journal and helps you apply the tips practically. Or you can videotape it, either one that you decide to do when you've finished with the eight tips and steps, upload it so that I can see it. And if you'd like for me to provide feedback, I will. Let's get started. 3. Tip 1 Prioritize work action steps: It is important for you to learn how to prioritize in order to do well. And so work these actions steps. First, learn to organize your time. And you do that by creating a to-do list. This to-do list is something that you then look at through the day and work out the to-do list. As you work through your day, that will help you to organize your time. And you need to prioritize that to-do list in terms of what's urgent, what's important, what's not important, and what is not important and not urgent. Begin by working the urgent first. If you don't, it causes chaos. Then next, what you'll do is work the important stuff. These may be boring, but it's important that you work these things so that your day flows well. Next you can work the not important things. Usually these are a little bit more fun. And then you can work the things that can wait until later when you make these priorities, it makes your time flow better. So I hope you do. 4. Tip 2 Resist temptations : To resist temptation. And the temptation here is temptation to have bad time habits. So do you constantly look at your social media when maybe you should be working or doing something else more productive with your time. The temptation to go and look at social media all the time is very real. And so if you're looking at social media when you should be working, then you are in a time management bad habit. Unfortunately, but you can change that. Social media is a temptation for all of us. But understanding that we ought to manage our time properly is so important. And so as you can see from this chart, we spend a lot of time on social media. Now, you're bad habit might be shopping. Whatever you do, resist the temptation to use your time ineffectively. Resist time management bad habits. Instead, make work a priority and use your cell phone during breaks or lunch or whenever you have some spare time. This way, you will use your time more effectively. 5. Tip 2 Resist temptations action steps: It is extremely important for you to resist temptations, such as bad time management habits. That could mean that you're always waking up late or that you're always on social media. Research says that it takes 30 days to change a habit. And so if you want to manage your time better, you are going to have to change your habits. Does that mean that you're not on social media? Does that mean that you're not doing fun things? Absolutely not. But it does mean that you learn how to balance your time. And so when it's time to let say work or be in school or get up on time to get out of the house to get to work or school on time. It's important that you want to change the habit. Now we know. And as you can see from this chart, being on social media is something that a lot of the population now does. But that doesn't mean that you use it and you use it as a time waster, but there are other time wasted, such as going shopping, whether online or going into a store, instead of maybe doing a term paper or doing some work, it's important that you make. The important things are priority and everything else is separate. So you can spend your breaks, your lunch hour after work weekends on social media and fun things. But remember to manage your time well and resist bad habits. 6. Tip 3 Do a SWOT Analysis on yourself : Tip number three is to do a swat analysis of yourself. You may wonder, what is a swat analysis? Well, if you're in the business world or if you're a business major, you probably know that's what means strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. Your strengths are those things that are internal a part of you that helps you to do well, especially when it comes to time management. And I mean, for this particular example, your weaknesses though, are things that you don't do well when it comes to time management. Your opportunities are those things externally that will offer you maybe a promotion pertaining to your job, but your threats then would be the lack of time management that you have that might cause you to not get the job or the promotion. I urge you then to do a time management analysis of yourself by using swat. So doing a swat analysis of how you manage your time will help you to see where your strengths are and where your weaknesses are. And so when you examine your strengths, you're looking to see are you accurate? Are you on time? Look at your weaknesses. How can you improve your time, your opportunities then of course, at those things that are going to help you move forward, but your threats are things that you don't do well when it comes to managing your time. So take a look at those things and be very honest with yourself. As you do a swat analysis of yourself. 7. Tip 3 SWOT Analysis action steps : Tip number three is to do a swat analysis on yourself. And so these action steps require you to look at your strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. This then requires your honesty to look into yourself to see what these things are. Let's take Anna. She's looking for a promotion. So her strengths are, and these things come from the internal inside of yourself. Her strengths are that she is a really snazzy dress, that she dresses very well. And she's already working in the corporate world. So she's been able to get herself through the door. But Anna is looking for a promotion. So what are her weaknesses? Unfortunately, Anna is a young lady who constantly is not on time. She does not wake up early, and her employers have noticed that she's not on time. So that is a threat to her because she wants to promotion. So her not being on time is a threat. And even though there are opportunities available, they are looking for somebody to promote her not being on time may cause her to not get the print emotion. But our opportunities are that she can change, she can grow, and she can show them that she will be on time. So that particular behavior she has chosen to change. So she assessed her time management strengths and she's working to make them stronger, but she's eliminating the weakness of getting up late. So actin step three is do a swat analysis on yourself. Now that I'm a has conducted her swat analysis. She has changed her behavior. She gets up early and she now got the promotion. 8. Tip 4 Breakdown Your Goals : Tip number four is to break down your goals. This means that you're thinking about how you want to do something. Let's say e.g. you want to go to college. What is your plan to bring that to reality? It means that you must have a plan. And once you have worked that plan, you can then start college. And so working the plan is important. Let's say you want to get a promotion at work. What is your plan to bring your goal to reality? Do you have one? There are so many people that wish that they could do something. But if your plan is to get promoted, are you doing the training that you need? Are you ready? What is it that you're doing to get the promotion? It means that you have to have a plan and you have to work the plan. So how do you work the plan? What are the steps that you need to take? You've got to have a smart plan or a smart goals plan. You've got to break down your goals by making them specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and timely. Once you do that, then you break your goals down to the point where you go from an idea or a dream to reality. In the action step, you will learn how to do this. 9. Tip 4 Breakdown your goals action steps : Tip four is to break down your goals. And this action step means that you are going to write your smart goals. Smart means that your goals are specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and timely. And so when you decide on a goal, this is the way that you can make sure that your goal is achieved. You have to write it down. We're going to look at an example of, let's say losing weight. It's great to have a goal, but you must make it specific. And that means, what do you want to do specifically? And measurable means, how will you know when you've achieved your goal? How will you know when you've reached it? And then achievable means. Is it in your power to accomplish the goal? Realistic means. Can you realistically achieve the goal? And finally, timely means. When exactly do you want to accomplish the goal? So you want to let say, as an example, lose weight. And so how do you make this a smart goal? Well, instead of saying you want to lose weight, you might say, well I want to lose 20 pounds and that's cos American. And so what are you measuring the 20 pounds. And how will you know that it's achievable because you're going to go to the gym three times a week, let's say and eat, right? Realistically, you know that you have the time, you have to have the time to go to the gym. So realistically, you have the time, let's say nine to 10:00 A.M. and timely says, well, within three months, if I go to the gym three times a week, I should be able to lose weight. This makes that weight-loss goal, a smart goal is specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and time-bound. So work this step. 10. Tip 5 Use tools, apps and other resources : Here in tip number five, use tools such as apps and other resources to manage your time well. These apps are located on your computer or on your phone. So you can use the online apps if you feel comfortable with them, such as your calendar app or a to-do list app. These help you structure your time. They pop up on your phone or your computer to help you manage your time better. And so some don't like the computerized. So use paper. Instead. You can use a paper planner if you'd like, or you can use your phone or electronic device. You can also use a combination of both. You can use a whiteboard if you'd like. And this gives you a visual representation of your time. You use these things to write a to-do list. And you can also use these resources and apps to write your priorities. So use apps and resources to help you manage your time better. 11. Tip 5 Use tools apps action steps: Tip five is to use apps and resources to manage your time. Do you use a planner or a calendar or any other time management resources? You can use paper or online, it doesn't matter. But it's important that you use something. There are many online apps, but you can also use paper. You can use a planner such as you see here in the picture. Or you can use a online resource and this is what I do. I use an online resource calendar app that helps me to manage my time? Well, it has pop-ups, it has notifications, it's got bells. But it certainly gives me the opportunity to see where my priorities are because I plug them in to my electronic planner. Now, whether you use paper or electric, use apps and resources to plan your time. 12. Tip 6 Clean the Clutter : Tip number six is to learn how to clean the clutter. You can have clutter in many areas. Clutter leads to you being unorganized and this can be a real time waster. So you can learn how to clean the clutter. You can have clutter on your electronic devices. You may have a whole bunch of email, you may have a whole bunch of files on your desktop. You've got to clean that clutter. Then you can have clutter in your personal space and this can lead to real time waster. So you've got to learn how to declutter your personal space. You can have clutter in your finances. And this leads to all kinds of time waster. And so understanding how to declutter or to organize your finances is really important. And then you can also have clutter in your workspace. And this is most important. You've got to de-clutter your workspace. It leads to inefficiencies and you've gotta get organized. So action step number six is to clean the clutter. 13. _Tip 6 Clean the clutter action steps: Tip number six is clean. The clutter to get organized. You may have computer clutter or email clutter. It's essential that you organize your files on your computer, your files in your emails. Why? Because it leads to less stress and better time management. When you're organized, you can find things easier. This also means organizing your personal space. So clean the clutter. Also organize your finances. If you don't, it brings a lot of stress. So clean your workspace so that you can organize it, so you can find things. It's so important. And making sure that your workspace is clear is important because your coworkers notice, and it also frustrates you when you can't find things. So organize your workspace and organize yourself so that you can manage your time better. Sometimes you need to find resources to help you clean the clutter. But learn how to clean the clutter. 14. Tip 7 Don't Put Things Off : Tip number seven. Don't put things off. It's easy to delay things, but it's important to understand that when you delay things, when you put things off, you're causing chaos in your life. Could be small things, but it also could be more important things. Are you putting off? Having a difficult conversation at work with a coworker or an employee? Are you procrastinating when you really should be managing your time well? Is this leading to chaos in your work-life? Do you wait until the last minute for important things? Like senior Dr. this can cause serious ramifications. And so don't procrastinate. In step number seven, we will learn that you should not put things off. 15. Tip 7 Dont put things off action steps: Tip number seven, action step is to do not put things off. This is often called procrastination. How do you stop it? By reducing the number of decisions you need to make? When you plan ahead. You reduce the number of decisions you need to make. And so now you're concentrating on doing the work, not thinking about what you need to do first or second or third, reduce the number of decisions you need to make upfront. And then create a detailed timeline with specific deadlines. Put these deadlines and a calendar or in a calendar app, and stick to the deadlines. The more you stick to the deadlines, the more you're going to be successful and then focus on your priorities. Finished your day before. It starts, by making sure you focused on your priorities. Then break your work down into little steps and work those steps. The more you know what you're doing beforehand, the more likely you are to do it. So break your work into small steps. This information came from life hack.org. This should help you overcome procrastination. 16. 8 Tips Wrap up : As we conclude this course, I would like to thank you so much for taking it. These eight steps are these eight tips should help you. In your final project. I encourage you to prioritize and to resist the temptation for bad time management habits. I also encourage you to make sure that you do a swat analysis on yourself so you can see your strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats. Then to break your goals down, I encourage you to continue to use apps and other resources to your advantage. And I suggest that you clean the clutter, makes sure the Cloud is cleaned from your life. And then I encourage you to continue to do not put things off, don't procrastinate. It can cause a lot of harm in your life. And finally, I would say to you, no matter what happens, keep at it. Use your time wisely to accomplish your goals. So I look forward to seeing your assignments and take good care.
