About This Class

You can talk to people as well!

No matter where you live, this class might help you to understand:

  • what Russian-speaking people are asking for
  • answers to important questions asked in Russian
  • how to ask for help in a Russian-speaking country

What I mean by “Russian-speaking country”?

Belarus, Russia, Kazakhstan, Ukraine (yes, no matter what Russian propaganda says, 90% of Ukrainians understand Russian and can switch to it if you ask them to, and some of them speak Russian on a daily basis anyway), Bulgaria, Georgia, Latvia (unsurprisingly, lots of people do speak Russian), Moldova, Azerbaijan, Romania, Kyrgyzstan and others.

Is this class for you?

Yes!

This class might be easier for those who are already familiar with Russian but don't worry if you're not! Common phrases can be understood and learned regardless of your knowledge of the language. Please, see transliteration if you have struggles with pronunciation, and don't be afraid to ask questions. I'm always willing to help with any Russian words.

The class is divided into 6 questions that are usually asked in a foreign country. And unfortunately they are too important to dismiss. That's the main reason why I created this class.

The questions and answers about: greetings, language, exchanges, simcards, stations and toilets - are commonly asked, and you never know when it's you who will end up in a foreign country where people speak only Russian. So knowing how to ask these questions and what answers to expect might be useful.

Okay, let's get started!

Hello, I'm Katya.

I'm from Belarus. My native language is Russian. I'll try to give y'all a general knowledge of this language in a jokey way.

Right now, maybe more people are having some kind of an experience with the Russian language so it could be useful. Also, I'll try to show the difference between Russian and Ukrainian and similarities between Ukrainian and Belarusian.

1. Introduction: Hi, my name is k, which is scattered in Russian though I'm not Russian. And I would like to introduce you to five open-ended questions that you might hear from a Russian speaking people who only just came to a foreign country and probably need a bit of help. Or maybe you as another Russian speaking person, found yourself in a foreign country and needs to somehow interact with people. 2. Structure of the class: The structure of this lesson is first, general roots. Second question one, gradients reaches previous three. Question number two, language, which is basic. Question number three, exchanges, which is the number for SIM cards, which is same carpet. Question number five, the stations, airports, which is exactly an aborted and the bonus question, which is totally Twilio, will be, to recollect the things that you have learned. You can return to the topic separately if you feel like you need to, I will probably use transliteration for action rewards. I wish it's a bad thing to do, but helps and you want to pronounce things. Please try to avoid by using transliteration while you're learning any language at all. Because it's actually just confuses people. 3. General words / Общие слова: Firstly, there are general rules that you might need to know before govern. Further, I have a list of words that will appear on the screen here. The first one is yes, which is done. Second. No. Third one. Thank you. Reaches specimen, breathes into cash, which is nine each name, I mean, which is u, which is very vast exchange reaches a minute, a minute. How riches from my, from my guys, where riches by inches or beat three reaches this platinum, this block me, kick it to the left, to the right. And a product called my needs emergency large net, large map, probably rod that over money. Then you travel card. Question. Approach. 4. Question 1: Greetings / Приветствие: The first White question is gradient, which is previously them. Here are common ways to grade someone in Russian language. Which means high, which means good afternoon. Good afternoon is usually used regardless of time in emails, for example, or if it's still like outside, if it's morning or afternoon, you can still say dobry. If it's already dark outside, say Don't worry. Nature, which means good. Dobry. Good afternoon. Debris. Nature is good evening. The next gradient, which means hello Penn small official one. Then if you hear someone saying, please don't worry. If it means the same as squishy. And I'm basically in the same words, just dress it is a little bit less official. The next word that you might need, easing, which means, sorry, excuse me. And it's usually followed by attack on the shoulder and question, the whole phrase would sound like the last exam. You need to, but because it's IP address them, which would mean PEBO, excuse me, could you help him please use vocabulary will be here probably with trust iterations. And then afternoon. Evening. Good afternoon. Dobry vitro. Good. Stamp. Hello. We need to press detail. Excuse me. Sorry. My GitHub. Please. 5. Question 2: Language / Язык: The second question is related to language, vicious? Yes. If someone approaches someone else, they don't know if the other person speaks English or Russian. The question will be, ready to fund risky. Do you speak English? Already? To borrow scheme? Speak Russian and there are three common in this question. Which means yes. Which means no. Pneumonia. Treat shoot, which means L little bit. If you get the answer or please don't be afraid to ask if you can use a translator to communicate further or if a person would want to use a translator to ask you something. If you need to use a translator, say McGwire, pocket-size more process video which show a question in a translator. Magritte's price it is for watching. Can I ask using a translator if someone wants to ask you about something but they don't speak English, you can say more detail and episodes, better watch again, which means you can type in a translator, usually in situations like this, people don't mind using translation and any apps and that can translate from one language to another. In Russian, the phrase sounds like yes, of course, the vocabulary used in this part of the lesson is shown here. Ready to go at it. To speak pneumonia. Little bit. Yes. No. Translator. Suppress it. Is using to use package that. Show of course, that besides to type or write Moghul modernity. Mongo, I should say. You can refer us question. 6. Question 3: Exchanges / Обменники: The third question is related to money exchange. Not everyone can travel with the currency of the country they're going through. So they are basically arriving with no cash to you. And sometimes that can be a problem. If Russian speaking person comes up to you and asks them more than a five-minute. Their bank got Banca. Don't worry, they adjust for asking where they can exchange the currency. And they need to find a bank or any exchanger. Also, if you need to exchange money in the Russian-speaking country, you can ask the same question, which again, again, most familiar with the bank. The bank admin become more familiar to you and I exchange money. The answer to this question can be involved. Name of the local bank and direction to a trip to event includes buses, metro drumroll. Please save this to the person asked, for example, more than a familiarity. Answer. For Bandcamp or any other rank In the name of the street. Metro, dots dancing the name on the station. But since October, normal number of the bus, standard off-key name on the investor. Where can I exchange money? In Alfa Bank on the street, the name on the street, you need to use metro and get off on the station. The name of the station from day you need to go on a bus. The number on the bus and get off the bus stop, their name on the bus stop, please don't worry, naming the nation's streets, avenues of the original veins. It would be much more useful than trying to translate those into Russian. Next question, bank. Whereas a bank calc for Etsy or Banca, how to find a bank or an exchanger? This question is usually about directions. Bank, calc, pricey, Banca, or they can be lever the oldest say the name of the street, bottoms product keyframe. I didn't quartile is a bank. How can I find a bank or an exchange from here to the left in the street, the name of the street where you need to talk and walk one block and you will see the bank. Natalie, I heard people look at four exchangers or banks reach good exchange of a specific currency. For example, Ukrainian greenness, Belarusian roubles, or Russian rebels. And the question will sound like Museum more than that. Good evening. The lateral scale. Where can I exchange greenness, ration rambles or Belarusian roubles if you need a specific it. So please give the address to the person asking say for both. Betsy majora may support that Christiania, thus the address where you can exchange greenness open till five PM. Saturday and Sunday. If you don't know the base, you can just say Jana's now you need them. I don't know. Sorry. Saying I don't know is much better than just walking away without an origin, the person who is asking for some type of L. If you don't know the address, specific bank or an exchanger, you could give the person who asks the address of the nearest head office over big bank, usually hand offices have more currency that can work with. Small officers are exchangers. So maybe the head office of the bank could help with the currency. People in ration that would sound like but the glove in the office, Banca, the name of the bank, it or understand the address was more than an effeminate go to head of the bank, the name of the bank on the street. The name of the street. Maybe they could exchange. I wouldn't recommend you're exchanging any currency then maybe yours dollars, pounds, Swiss francs in Russian-speaking countries, because those are the main currencies. And if we talk about minor currency, for example, creation cars, the foreign currency, check currency interaction speaking countries like Russia and Belarus, and Ukraine, Hungarian, Kazakhstan. I'm trying to erase country that can understand. I'll speak Russian. You can also go to a head office, somebody I would advise you to check currencies on the internet and find a better option for yourself. Because from bank to bank in the rates are just jumping up and down. Vocabulary use in this part of the lesson. Where marginal priming, priming, exchange for the detail, go and exchange the money. Not for all. It's a Pulitzer strip. Get off sponsor station, normal number october at students from here. And only ever since the left problem to the right. One quartile block to see. And we couldn't believe. All Botha Saturday was Christiania, Sunday at cryptic at Krita open door tail until gladly office. Head office was marginal. Maybe they 7. Question 4: Simcards / Сим-карты: The first question is about SIM cards and connection. Coming to a foreign country. People usually don't have a local sim cards and thus they have the Internet or can do, of course, Ukrainians, as much as I know it can get a free SIM cards in some of European countries. So if you know that in your country, that can be provided brief SIM card, at least for Ukrainians, please give the information about local phone operator that can sell three SIM cards for Ukrainians. The question about racing cardboard will sound like motion Apollo sheets, this platinum seem carton work and then get a free SIM card if you know the place, please give the address. For example, the formula for the address in Vodafone on the street, name on the street. If a person like any person asks about binds SIM card, the question we will sound like they're more than non-compete seemed CARTO rack and I invite a SIM card if you know a couple of local apparatus, please give a list of them. If you know address of any operative cells, SIM cards to non residents, please give this information as well because not every operator it wants to sell their sin cards. Any other products, non-residents. And the question there, more than that competes in capital. Where can I buy SIM card? The answer can be Officer semen bile, the orange. In it, more defined or understood. The name from the street. Where can I buy a SIM card? In the offices of T-Mobile and orange CO2 water phone. The closest to us is on the street. The name on the street. I'm using English Veritas as an example. But now list can be with a purchase of any country, your token. And also if you need to buy a SIM card in Russian-speaking country, the question will sound the same. Copy to some capital. Where can I bike SIM card? And the answer can be also the same. Just a names of operators in the rational and irrational, except for one. Sound like empties. The Russian one is Beeline. A1. All the vocabulary used in this lesson, probably cheat. Get this platinum. Platinum free. Could beat by Officer in the offices, blue Joshua Tree, the closing nearest. Tenth non-resident. 8. Question 5: Stations / Вокзалы: Last question is about transportation and directions. And again, I want to know why before him, people, it's easy to get lost between train stations, airports, and interested in buses. Usually they asked people around how to get to a certain rotation or bus stop, what bus and they need to use to get to the airport. Sometimes they don't have mumps or gone to the wrong information beforehand. The common question depth more than October. Metro, where can I get a bus or metro ticket? The answer can be both demotic. Let me let more blood ellipse. In English, the answer will be, in a ticket machine, you can buy a single ticket or a travel card. Next, big question about tickets and buses and trains usually sounds like this. More than copays, billions and knowledge that can they take it from a driver by cash? The answer can be done. Yes. Yet, no. Other question is related to directions. And here's really sounds like Adina, how to get to my interested because illustration, for example. How to get to the station answering this question? Please try to help if you know the fastest or the cheapest way to get to the station. Asking them out, you can say, now after we set number, for example, standoff game, the name of Vasco, EPA Tom, natural environment, non-mammal. For example, Nevada. On the bus number, for example, by the name of the bus stop, and then by Trump number, for example, two. If you don't know in the right direction of the ride buses, you can just say Yannis Nile is I don't know. Sorry. The next question is commonly asked on bus stops, on train stations. And it is imago Dei effects, not Adam. London. I report them. Can I get to London airport by this glass? Yes. Just say that if know and you know, the right bus or train Trump. Yet along them or bored. After service. Normal. The number on the bus? No, to London airport or any other place and go to the bus number, the number on the bottom. Since I'm speaking English right now, I used examples in England, but it can be any, any country, any streets, avenues, squares, and transportation in the city including buses, trolley buses, and trains, The trumps, even Texas magnets and a little bit more expensive. I'm just using examples like bass drum. And that's all. If you are the one who needs to get somewhere in the foreign city in any Russian-speaking country. And you're not sure what bus transportation you have to use. You can ask the same questions. If their marginal wreck and they invite a ticket or the ear mask weight. How do I get to Moscow? Vocabulary use in this topic about transportation and directions? Ticket after ticket machine. You not as a single phrase, noise, I travel card. To get to knowledge, net, cash to buy a driver, a service, bus, train station. How bottom? Then not add them by this? Yes, It goes to go speak. Every u square. 9. Bonus Question: Toilets / Туалеты: Now we'll go to the bonus question, which is toilets or anything. It's a very important question no matter how funny it can sell to annual. Imagine you are in a new city walking around for a couple of hours and suddenly unique to go to the bathroom. But she doesn't know where to find one. And more importantly, you want to find a free toilet. Now imagine that you also have a crying baby in your arms that has to go to the toilet as well. See, that's why it's very important question that should be asked and must be answered. And here are the question, marginal or Warner wreck and they find a toilet or a bathroom. Marginal. This black me credit. Ms. Warner, where can I find a free toilet or afraid bathroom? Sometime this question can be much shorter in Russian language and sound 90 toward it varies. Toilet, rare to find a toilet. If I'm not mistaken, in lots of countries have most of most sparks. Fast food restaurants like Mongolia's KFC longer can have free toilet. So people can be send that if you know where exactly a free tool from those who ask their marginal 90, this flattening toilet. Where can I find a free toilet disbanded to edit both KFC Mongolia and get a free toilet is in KFC McDonalds in the park, for example. The same question can be asked. If it's you who need to go to the toilet and know where to find one. There are more than 90 well-lit spot me credit. Is a toilet. Where can I find a toilet? A free toilet?
