1. Every Adobe Illustrator Tool Explained Drawing Tools Pt1 Promo: welcome to the every Adobe illustrator to explain Siri's. This series is throughout to be as a one stop shop for all you guys who really need to understand all the tools beside the software in order to understand how the software works . So if you're looking for a source of thorough knowledge on each and every adobe illustrator tool and if you're familiar with my other courses, well, you might expect techniques that are straight to the point, easy to use and easy to follow. And I guarantee you that she will feel more comfortable and using each Adobe illustrator tool after watching the videos in the series. This particular class is the first part in the two part miniseries on the drawing tools Inside Illustrator. So if you want to learn how to use that the line segment tool of the Ark tool on the spiral tool and the polar and rectangular griddles. 2. 1The Line Segment Tool: welcome to another every adobe illustrator To explain class in this particular class, we will talk about the drawing or the creation tools and in fact, this one will be the first off to parts about the drone or the creation tools. So if you want to use her, the shortcut for the line segment will simply press the backslash key in order to initialize this line segmental So we're with, as with almost any tool in illustrator that you can use of the line segment tool in many in many different ways. So first of all, on the way it works is that wherever I just positioned my cursor and click and start Dragon , I'm going to create a line just like so, of course, and I can exchange will change the stroke value to make it thicker If I want Teoh just like so And of course, I can simply exchange its a stroke with its fill. Now, if you want Teoh, if you want to create like, constraint in the looks or the movement of your of your line, just if you click and drag and then hold on the shift key, you can see that we are constraining the creation process. Toe only 45 degree angle on the steps so you can make this line goes strict, just like so Now it's zero or not. We're 90 degrees. And then if I just move around, you can see that I'm moving my line just like the whole holding down the shift key to constrain that that the creation process of the movement process to 45 degree angle increments. Also, if I hold down the old or if you're on a Mac, the option key and click and hold on the altar conceit that I am creating my line from the center point. So I'm not just like clicking from left and then moving to the right. But instead I am clicking, and now I can move this guy around just like so, and I'm creating it from the centre, a centre point. And if I add the shift to this transformation, I am not only creating the line from the strip from from the center point, I am also constraining the creation process again to 45 degree angle. Another handy little trick is that when you create a line with the line segment toe just like this one, and if you hold down the space bar, you can move your line around, and it applies to any any shape, creating a tool inside elsewhere. If you're creating a shape and then hold down and then move the space bar and then move your mouse around, you can see that we are moving our lines well. Line now, and it just it just line segment. We're moving our line around our or art board, just like so. If you want to be more precise when creating your lines, here's what you can do when you grab the line segment tool and then simply click anywhere on your aren't board just like So So I just grabbed the line segmental and I clicked on the art aboard. You'll get to these options right here. And if you want to said to them Well, a specific length to your line just to set it right here. So I'm gonna maybe type of like 20 to 25. And for the angle, I'm gonna go with something crazy like 32 a degrees, just like so. If I click OK, you can see it have created a line that is that exactly those attributes And we can check that if I simply now just double click on the line segment. Oh, I got the line Segment two options and you can see it's set to bulls in the last used well options that were used when creating the line segment. And, of course, our last options were 2 25 pixels for the length and 3rd 2 degrees for the angle. And if I just simply creates an arbitrary line like so and then just double click on the line segmental, you can see that we can now see that it's got 314.77 pixels and the angle is 61.26 degrees . So it's picking up the the attributes of my last two created created line, just like so. Okay, so just to just to sum things up, if you want to constrain the creation process to 45 degree angle, just hold down the shift key when you're creating your line and if you want to create it from the center, Point is, hold on the al Turkey as well, just like so, if you want Teoh, when you're creating your line moving around, simply press the space bar key and hold it on holly, just like so. And if you want to have more precision when creating your lines, just click on the art board. Just click on the art board to get the line segment of options and type in your your values , like 1 50 for the length and maybe 25 40 angle to create, to create a line just like so now, in the next video, we will talk about the Ark two, which is a very handy tool, I got to tell you, but we will do that in the next video
3. 2The Arc Tool: in this video, you will talk about the Ark tool and the article sits right here underneath the on the line segment tool and the way it works is pretty straightforward. If I just click and drag, you will see that I am creating an art that some point is going to look like a like a 1/4 of an ellipse. And if I hope well, I'm still holding down my mouse button and if I move it around, you can see that I am changing the way this arc look so I can really play around with and noticed that my first anchor point, the one in the bottom left, is well, it's stick. It's not moving the Onley well, anchor point that I'm moving right now is the one on the right on the top, right, Just like so Now if I just let go of the mouse, you can see that we have heard this, uh, are co created. And of course, I can change its its stroke value. But as soon as I change well, I swept the filling the stroke, just like so you can see that we kind of have something like a A. I don't know how to call, like a like a flat to half ellipse or something like that. But if you just go to them to the outline mode, you can see that it's just an arc. Illustrator is assuming that there should be some kind of a line here. That's why it's kind of like a filling in the shape. So it looks, well, the way we the way we just saw it before. When creating an arc, you can do one little trick if I just click and drag to create an ark. And now, if I just press F on my keyboard, you can see that I am Philip in this this arc around. And if you so my flat designer wine glasses, which is a free free class here on a scale shirt, you will. Well, you will understand how helpful the article is when you, for instance, want to create like a necker of a glass. So if I just press the F G, I'm able to to flip this will f or flip, I'm able to flip this art just like so. And if I just let go of the mouse just like so I've created, like, this kind of a kind of a Arkle let just just like this one with the arc till you get a handful off. Pretty, pretty interesting options when creating your arcs. So what I'm gonna do is I'm simply going to Of course, we're still the ark toe selected. I'm simply going to click on my art board, Will anywhere on my art aboard, and you can see that we got to quite a lot of options right here. So, first of all, we can choose the length of the X axis and the Y axis. So for now, I'm just going to maybe changed to 1 50 And this guy, maybe to 200. Why not? We also get this a reference point option right here. Which means that our ark will be drone from, well, one of these reference points. So maybe this time I'm going to know what? Maybe I'm going to leave it a stop left, right? Why not? And for now, I'm just going to leave all the all these options. I just want you, Teoh, pay attention, toe only these options. So we got way said the X axis. We said the Y axis And when you said the reference point to top left. And if I just suppress Okay, you can see that illustrator has created this specific specific arc for me. So now if I just click once more and this time maybe I'm going to type in 300 as well and click OK, you can see that it's now more well, like will, even or maybe but more proportionate than this guy right here. I'm gonna move it to somewhere here. So again, let's play around these options. This time let's play around with the type. So from open so well, the open would be, well, art like this one. I'm gonna change It took closed and I'm gonna click, OK? And you can see that illustrator is closing. This shape is given us something like a like 1/4 quarter circle. Maybe delete these guys again. I'm gonna click on my my art bored. I'm going to go back to open and Lalas change base along two x axis and let's see what this gives us. You can see that illustrator has flipped our arc before. Our our two looked well. It looked more like this, remember? And now it looks something like this. So illustrator is flipping our arc along the the axe access right now instead of the y axis . So again, I'm gonna collect anywhere on my art, bored with the arc tool. And now let's play around with this slope function right here. So let's see what is going to look like. I think it's gonna look like a bit better if we change the length of the will make a length of the Axis a bit difference. I'm gonna go with maybe 200. Why not? And now let's go to Colleen Cable. Simply press the Afghani to flip it, just like so, and you can also manipulate and the slope by pressing the up or down arrow keys. 4. 3The Spiral Tool: in this video. Let's talk about their spiral to and the spiral Tuell sits underneath the arc toe and it doesn't have any any shortcut and a default shortcut. So I'm just going to initialize the spiral tool right here. Now the weight worse is if I just click and drag on my art aboard, I'm going to create an ellipse that is going to look more or less like this one. So I'm just going to let go of the mouse. And as you can see, Illustrator has created an ellipse that has all these anchor points right here. So it's basically it's creating like a curved paths between these anchor points that are going well, creating a spiral just like so. No, The fun thing about the Spiral Tour is that when I could, when I created just like so I can add and subtract segments by pressing the up or down arrow key, just like social. By pressing the up arrow, I am adding that the segments just like so and by pressing down arrow key, I am subtracting the segments just like that. And now if I present, hold on the control or command. If you're an American my keyboard. You can see that I am changing the radius Both the ratings Because I move in that my mouse around as I'm doing it. And I'm also changing the DK off. Why my spiral? So I'm holding down the control key and basically I'm altering the whole look and feel of my spiral just like so. And by the way, you can manipulate both of the radios and the decay and the segments and well, of your of your lips. Let me just move this guy. Maybe I'm just going to delete it. If I just click on the art bored, I'm going to get the spiral in the tool options. So as you can see, we can set the radios weaken said the DK, the radius will be basically, well the size or how far the the the spiral stretches and the DK will tell us how our segments are going to look like in relation to each other off course. So he we got to the number of the segments and we and we can change the style right here. So for now I'm simply maybe going Teoh enter like 100 for the detail. I'm gonna decay. I'm gonna go with the 1985. And for two segments, I'm gonna go with simple 10. And if I just click, OK, you can see that illustrator is creating a spiral for me exactly, based on those on those options. So if I click again, maybe this time to go, I'm going to change the style. And this is what the spiral is going to look like it consider. It's kind of like I kind of like reflected in relation to this previous spiral. So again, if you want to create the spiral with spiral tool and I think it's the best side, it creates spirals with a spiral toe. What you can do is you can simply grab it right here, click and drag to create a spiral. You can add segments by pressing the up arrow key or subtract segments by President Down Arrow Key. You can present hold on the control key to manipulate the decay of the spiral, just like so. And of course, you can click on the the art abort to get the spiral tool options where you can change the radios, DK segments and style of your spiral just like that. 5. 4The Rectangular Grid Tool: In this video, we will talk about their rectangular grid tool, which sits right here underneath the spiral tool. And this is great for creating tables and unfortunately, is really seldomly used by people who create tables inside. Illustrator. So let's briefly take a look at what we can do with this rectangle are grits tool. So first of all, the way it works is if you just click and drag, you will see that you are creating kind of like a rectangular grid, just like some Well, my great right now, since I've been playing around with it has only one of horizontal divider and 123456 vertical dividers. However, I can quickly change that situation either by pressing the up or down arrow to add their horizontal dividers, just like so, to create the table that is going to look just like that. So we are kind of like a simulated excel right here. And if I press the down arrow, I'm going to decrease the number off horizontal dividers just like so. So have up arrow to increase number of horizontal dividers and down arrow to decrease the number off horizontal dividers and if I press the left arrow just like so you can see that I'm decreasing the amount of vertical dividers. So my table looks kind of like this. And if I press the right arrow, you can see that I am adding the vertical dividers. So my my cells are kind of like, well, vertical rectangles, just like so. So if you want to play around with the amount of the with the amount of the well cells inside your your good, you can press the up Arrow key or the down Arrow Key Teoh to increase the number off horizontal dividers and the left or right to increase or decrease the number of vertical dividers just like so and noticed that as soon as I let go of my mouse in Illustrator is creating a group. So all the this whole a good is a group. Now this will have some further implications, but we will talk about it in just a second. For now, let's focus on creating just secret. So if you want to have more precision when creating your great, here's what you can do. You can again simply with the rectangular grid Tool is selected click on the art board, just like so, and we can set the width and the height of our and grid. So I'm simply going to maybe this time go with let's maybe make it a square. So I'm gonna go with 4 50 by 4 50 just like so. And in here, you can see that we can set the number of horizontal dividers, a number off vertical dividers just like that. So let me just play around with it. Maybe I'm going to enter 10. And for the vertical, I'm going to go with 15. Why not? And if I good press OK, illustrator is creating the grid based on what I just well told it to do. So the practical and the benefits of using this technique allies will lie. I think maybe in this skew options right here. So let's say that you want to create like, a real table that has some hatters or some some like a top of cells for entering some description for your for your data. So let's say that I'm going to need just one row that is going to well, hold on those those descriptions. So what? I would do is I would simply enter one as the horizontal divider. I'm gonna go with 15. So we're gonna have 15 columns, just one row. And now, if we moved to this askew option right here, what this does is maybe it's a bit counterintuitive, but let me just quickly explain it to you. If you just move this slider to the left, it's going to mean that Well, you're moving it essentially to the bottom. It's going to mean that in this case, one row is going to go up if we have. Maybe let's let's let's ah, enter some more rose. I'm gonna go with five, and I'm going to go with this minus 400% and slider moved to the left to the bottom. So I'm gonna click, OK? And as you can see it, it is a bit counterintuitive because we can see that our rose are kind of like moved to the top, don't you think? So again, I'm gonna delete it, press and clicking on my art board, go with just one just like so and then I'm going to click. OK, now you can see that it cannot Will has a bit more sense. I mean, well, this the stop part could be something like our top top row for For some described the description and we would put our data inside inside our columns, just like here. We can, of course, move it around just like so and play around too, with size just like that. Of course, the same is going to apply with our vertical dividers If I go with 10 and if I just go with zero here and if I move this guy to the left and then click OK, you can see that my that my will columns in this case are moved to the left. And again, the practical benefit of using the rectangular Gretel options will be to move well, two disc, you're to the left. But to just to make one create one a vertical divider, just like so. And if I click OK, you can see that I got this left left column where I could well paced in or type and some descriptions off the data that is on the right now. So I'm just going to use the control shift plus g on my keyboard. You might think that we are going to get to these many of these many squares or rectangles . However, we are going to get a frame and some simple lines, just like so, if you wanna have, like, many, many rectangles we need to use the Pathfinder to for that. I know that we haven't used it before, but I'm pretty sure you are familiar with the Pathfinder. If that were quickly good going to talk about it. So I got all these guys right here. Of course they can be. They can remain as a group if you want to. So I got all these guys. And if I go to the window menu and then I'm gonna go to Pathfinder. I have a doctor in right here. But if you don't, you can go to the window menu and then Pathfinder. I'm gonna go with this with this divide option right here. Just like so. And now you can still that you can see that it still is a good but now, if I un group it now, I can play around with these these elements separately. So illustrator has actually divided all these elements into separate separate rectangles. So the thing to remember when playing around with the rectangular grito is that you can change the number of both horizontal and vertical dividers by pressing the up or down arrow keys just like so. And of course, if you wanna, if you want your grids to look a bit more like proportionate or to have them well, better looking and grows. Rows and columns simply play around with the options right here, which you can access by President. What clicking runs on the art board and I'm gonna go back to its normal state zero just like so and got with 10 right here than 10 right here. And I'm gonna change the size that 300 by 300. 6. 5The Polar Grid Tool: in visited, we will talk about the rectangular grid tool, which is great for creating charts. So the rectangular grid tool is the last two under these lines. The rectangular grids and the easiest way to do it will be to simply click on the on the art board, and we are going to get that the gun, polar grid tool options and of course with size If you want your if you want your well, great To be a perfect circle. Simply type in will the same numbers for both with and height Some. Maybe I'm gonna go with 2 50 by 2 50 And with the case of concentric and radial dividers, you can play around with their numbers and there's Q and it will work pretty much the same as with the rectangular accurate. So particular to how it will actually work. I'm going to Maybe this time will increase the number of concentric dividers to maybe 20. So you can actually see which of these are concentric dividers? Was the difference between the concentric and the radio dividers because it's it's not that obvious, some simply going to click. Okay, so again, I'm gonna go to the rectangular Gretel, click on my art board. And this time I'm going to make it five. And with the consent concentric dividers, I'm going to crank the number of radial dividers up to maybe 15 and I'm going to click, OK? And now you can see that we have more moral of like a roulette too thin going on here, I think something like a real lead. So we got more of these lines, these straight lines going on here, What you can also do with their rectangular will. The polar grid tool is you can create well like basis for for your pie charts. So I'm gonna go. Ah, go ahead, grab the polar great tool click on my art board. And this time I am going to because, you know, you don't have to stick Teoh the number of consent for dividers, which is greater than or equal to one you can go with. You can go with zero, and you can also go with zero for the radio dividers. So in this case, I'm gonna I'm gonna go with zero for the concentric dividers and I'm gonna go with maybe just three for the radial dividers. And if I click OK, I'm going to get something like this. However, if your data is not as well equal like in this case, what you can do is you can play around with this queue right here. So if we move this guy to the left, maybe two, maybe something like 2 50 around 2 15 a click. What I'm saying is you can create different looks off your pie charts by simple, simple disk you manipulation. And if I go to the top, maybe this time let's see what it will produce for us. Well, basically, well, almost the same. But you can see that we can easily get different a different looks of our of our pie charts . And of course, if I just let me just increase the size right here. And of course, if I just increase the number of radial dividers to maybe five on gonna have to change, I'm gonna have to decrease maybe this skewer option like so, and you can see that we get to that. We get much. Well, many more, many more like parts of our of our pie chart before wrap things up in color today, let me just show you one trick when using the rectangular grid toe. If I just, of course, with the tool selected. If I just click on my art board, I can simply to turn on the number off concentric dividers. Let's say two, maybe like 10 and radial dividers all the way to zero, just like so, in order to create this kind of a like a bull's eye effect that you can see right here. So remember that you are not limited to just entering something greater than or equal to one here. For the number of concentric and the rail dividers, you can go down all the way to zero and have different results. So this video wraps up this glass that's about toe.
