1. Intro: Hi, my name is shoe bomb. I'm a graphic designer slash part-time YouTuber from India. In this class, we
will learn how to create 3D text effect. And if you know the basics
of Photoshop than you, my friend, at the right place, we will not just
create a 3D text, but explore the different
ways to create it. So to make this process
as easy as possible, I have divided this class
into just four parts. First, we will use a
secret technique to create query text
effect with shadows. Second, we will create a realistic 3D text effect
with the help of smart object. We will add another layer of 3D with the help
of stroke effect. And lastly fold, where
we will learn to create isometric 3D text effect. We will be using Adobe Photoshop
for this entire class. If you don't have it,
that's completely fine. You can get a 30
days free trial from adopt.com. Let's get started.
2. Secret Technique : Creating 3d with Shadows: In this lesson, we will use a secret technique to create
three texts with shadows. So let's start the lesson. To create a 3D text
effect in Photoshop. Click on Create New to
create a new document. Let's give it the name 3D text. And we are using the custom
size where the weight will be 3,000 pixel and height
will be 2000 pixels. Resolution will be 72% of
the value are looking good. Hit on Create to
create the document. Now we will first create
a good background. So add an adjustment
layer of gradient. Click on gradient to edit. Expand the blues group, and select the first
gradient. Hit, Okay. Hit Okay, again. Let's start typing in. Take the text tool where the
size will be 500 points. And I'm using this new regular. You are free to use
it commercially. The download link will be
mentioned in the description. For the color we will use fight, clicking center
and type 3D text. Then take the Move
tool and to place these texts in the center
by holding Control, select the background layer. And click on horizontal
and vertical center icon. Click outside to
deselect the layers. Press Control Plus to zoom in. Now right-click on
the text layer. Open the blending options. Let's drag the file to the
left to get a better view. First, check the drop shadow. Selected. Change the blend
mode from multiply to normal, change the blend mode color
from black to light ray. Hit Okay, set the
distance to pixels. Spread will be zero, size will be zero. Click on the Add icon of drop shadow to create a
duplicate Drop Shadow. Select the duplicate
drop shadow. We will add two values
in distance every time when we create a
duplicate of drop shadow. So it will be two plus
two equals to four. Then again click on Add icon. This is the main style that
give the feeling of 3D text. Select the drop, shadow, change the distance 4-6. Repeat the process until we
will get the value of ten. So there will be five
copies of drop shadows. Because of the distance
of these copies, it looks like in a 3D form. But don't worry, we're not going to expand it more than five. Instead, we will do
something more interesting. This is the last copy. Hit. Okay? Press Control
Plus to zoom in. Now, select the text
layer and drop it to the Group icon.
Collapse the group. Right-click on the Group icon. Open the blending options and check the first drop shadow. Now this is the
interesting part. By changing the
distance 2-10 pixel, we expanded the 3D text effect. So the five copies we created
earlier is now doubled. Jacqueline drop, shadow, selected genes or
distance 4-20 pixel. So each time we will
add a drop shadow and the distance will be
increased by ten pixel. So by putting the text
inside the group, we can actually
double the shadows. So here as well, we will
do the same process. We will create five drop shadow, and each time we will
increase the distance by ten pixels until
we get a 50 pixel. So this is the last one. This effect have
many benefits to it. But personally, I really
like the angle part. By changing the angle, you can shift that 3D extrusion. Let's set the angle when 21 thing is missing
from this tax. Do you know what that is? Depth? Yes. I'm
talking about shadows. Isn't it funny that we have
created so many drop shadow, but there isn't a single rope shadowed at actually
giving the shadows. So add another drop shadow. Selected. Change
its color to black. Hit Okay. Increase the size around pixel, increase
their distance. Or you can manually
adjust that distance. Let's reduce its opacity to 50%. And angle will be one-twenty. This is looking perfect. Hit, Okay, collapsed
the effects. Now you can easily edit your
text and put your own text here at texts according to
the movement and action. And if you want to
change the text color, Double-click context, and change the color
from the header. Choose any color you want. But you can see that it's only going to change the
color of the upper part, but it's not affecting
the bottom extrude part. Let's cancel it for now. To fully change the color
of this text. Collapse it. Select the group and drag
it to the Group icon. Collapse it. And add an
adjustment layer, hue saturation. Click on the clip
button to clip it with the group so it will not
affect the background color. You can see it
here, it's clipped. Now, back to Properties. Check on colorize. And you can see a red tint
on it. But it's very light. So increase the saturation
and decrease the lightness. Increase the saturation more. When we change the hue values, you can change it to
any color you want. If necessary, readjust so
saturation and lightness. Let's give it this color. Move back to layers panel. Now even if we change the text, color will remains there. But I liked the
white-collar mole. Hide the top adjustment layer. And this is how we
create a 3D text. But this effect have its
own limitation as well. Let me show you. When
we scale the text, the extrusion becomes small. When we decrease
the size of text, the extrusion becomes large, so it's not constant. And also the extrusion
is too plain. Like there is just one color. It needs to have some shades of the color so that it can
look more realistic. In the next chapter, we will learn the realistic way to create a 3D text effect. See you in the next class.
3. Realistic 3d Text : By Using of Smart Object: In this lesson, we will create realistic texture effect with
the help of smart objects. So let's start with the lesson. Create a new document
just like before. Its size will be custom. Name this document as 3D text, which will be 3,000 pixels and height will be 2000 pixels. Dust of the value will be
the same. Hit on Create. First we will create
a background, add an adjustment
layer of gradient. Click on gradient to edit, expand the abuse group, and select the second gradient. We don't need to
change anything else. Hit Okay? These values
are also good to go. Hit. Okay, again, now take the Type Tool and I'm using
matter of break font. You can easily download it. The link is given
in the description. Make it regular. Size will be 500 points, alignment will be centered
and color will be white. Click in the center and type
in text T. It's not a word, but I think it sounds nice. Take the Move tool and while
holding Control or Command, select the background layer and make it vertically and
horizontally align in the center. Click outside to
deselect the layers. To make your workflow easy. We will use hotkeys like
white holding space bar. You can pan around
the art board. And while holding
z, you can zoom in and zoom out. From time-to-time. We would use these shortcuts to make your workflow more easy. So let's work to
create the 3D text. Select the text layer, right-click and convert to smart object so that we can
work non-destructively. And also we can change the text anytime beforehand by
double-clicking on it. This is one of the most
powerful feature of Photoshop. If you are still confused, don't worry, literally
will learn about it more. And drag that texture layer to the New Layer icon to
create a duplicate layer. Zoom-in to clearly
see the result. And with the upper arrow key, move it up three times
while holding Alt, press onetime upper arrow key. It will create a duplicate copy, not released the
alt button and move it up by pressing two
times the upper arrow key. So we will just follow this pattern by
creating eight copies, moving each copy two times
to create the 3D effect. I know right now you can
not see the difference. Just give me a moment. You will see the difference. Now. Let's zoom out
by holding Shift, select the copy and the
bottom texture layer. Press Control or Command G to create a group of
all these layers. Rename this layer as 3D, tapped. My hiding and unhide it. You can see the difference. To make it more prominent. Expand the group,
select the top layer. Right-click. Open
Blending Options. Icon color overlay, selected. Set the blend mode to Multiply. Color will be black and
opacity will be 20 per cent. Next, select the
gradient overlay. Setting Opacity 40% addressed over the value will be
the same like this. Hit Okay? Now we want to copy this
effect on all these layers. To do that, right-click on the layer and copy
its Layer Style. Now while holding Shift, select the bottom layer. Right-click and paste
the Layer Style. Now it's looking 3D. Collapse the group. Rename the top layer as top. To make it more realistic,
Let's add shadow. Expand the group. Scroll down, select the bottom layer, and press Control G to
create a duplicate layer. Drag the copy out of the group, collapse the group, and
rename this layer as shadow. Right now, we don't
want these effects. So let's clear it.
Right-click on the layer and select
Clear Layer Style. Right-click on it again and
open the Blending Options. Click on drop shadow. Selected, it's already added the shadow set the
opacity 50 per cent. Distance will be 30 pixels, spread will be zero and
size will be 30 pixel. I think we need to
change the angle, set its angle to 120 degree.
Now it's looking good. Hit Okay, to give it
a more good effect, select the top layer, open the blending options. Select drop shadow,
set the opacity, 20%. Distance, 20 pixel,
size, ten pixel. Let's reduce its opacity by ten. Hit, Okay, and this result is looking much more better
than, than before. This effect is
already complete now, you can edit it by double-clicking
on the smart object. Change it to any text you want. Let's type Hello. Take the Move tool and make sure to put it inside the canvas. Press Control S to save it, and Control W to close the file. The smart object already
got amputated here. You can create an
effect like this one or you can take it
to another level. In the next lesson, we will add another layer of 3D with the help
of stroke affects. See you in the next lesson.
4. Additional layer : Create 3d with Stroke effect: Welcome back to another
lesson of 3D text effect. So far we have learned to
create a 3D text effect, but we are moving
to the next level. This is the last result we get. Let's undo it for now and create another 3D
layer right below it. For this, select
the shadow layer and press Control J to
duplicate the layer. Drag this copy right
below the shadow layer. Right-click and
clear layer style. Next, open the Blending
Options and take on stroke. Set the size 30 pixel. Position will be outside. And for the color, you can choose whatever color you want. Let's go with this
yellow color. Hit Okay. Rename this layer as stroke. Now, this trope will
have its own 3D depth. Zoom in, press Control J
to duplicate the layer, drag it below the
stroke layer and rename it as stroke depth. So just like how we created a 3D depth for the text layer, we will create a tap layer
for the stroke as well. But before doing that, let's
put some distance between the stock top layer and
the bottom depth layer. With the down arrow key, move the layer and the distance between them will be filled
with duplicate layers. I think this must
distances sufficient. Let's start creating the
copies while holding Alt. Press the up arrow key one time, release the button and
press upper arrow key to repeat the process until
you create seven copies. Now while holding Shift, select all stroke that layers and press Control
G to create a group. Rename it as true depth, or to be more precise, it will be stroke 3D depth. Right-click on the group and
open the Blending Options. Select Color overlay. Blend mode will be multiplying. Color will be black and opacity, 20 per cent hit. Okay? You can see this is
the same process how we did for the text effect. The only difference is that
we added a colored stroke. Let's add the shadow,
expand the group. Select the bottom layer. Press Control J to duplicate
the layer and drag it outside the group.
Collapse the group. Also the effects. Clear it's Layer Style and rename this
layer as stroke that shadow. Open it's blending options. Select drop shadow. Said the Opacity 40%. Distance will be 50 pixel. Size 50 pixel. Add another drop shadow. Will the opacity
will be 40 per cent. Distance will be 50. And size 20 pixel. Hit Okay. Collapsed the effect.
And while holding Shift, select the group and press
Control G to create a group. Rename it as 3D stroke. Grouping and naming is
important for any file. Otherwise, it will be
very difficult for anyone to edit the file
while holding Shift. Select both stroke and a 3D stroke group and create
a group, name it stroke. And create a group of
the top layers as well, rename it as 3D text. We don't need the background
layer, so deleted, rename it as Bg and convert it to a group,
name it background. And if you are wondering how to change the color of the stroke, let me give you a tip. Select the stroke group, and add an adjustment
layer, hue saturation. Click on the clip icon. It will only affect the group and change the hue value
to any color you want. Let's give it a red color. Moved back to the layer
panel and create a group of stroke and the effect layer
limit clearly stroke. You can also give different
colors to the group. So that's how we create a 3D texts double layer effect that can be editable
to any texts you want. Thank you for
taking this lesson. In the next lesson, we will
learn about isometric text. That's very trending right now. See you in the next lesson.
5. Isometric : Creating 3d text in Isometric Angle: Welcome to another lesson
to create 3D text effect. In this lesson, we will create a 3D isometric text effect. Create a new document. Name it as isometric
credit text, which will be 3,000 pixel and
height will be 2000 pixel. Rest of the value
will be the same. Hit on Create. First we will add a background, add an adjustment
layer of gradient. Click on gradient to edit. Scroll down and expand
the Cloud group. Choose the first gradient
and hit Okay, twice. Rename this layer as BG. Delete the background layer because we have already
created the background. Next, take the text tool. I'm using more straight bold. Size will be 500 points. Make it sharp. Align it in center. Choose the color black. Click one time in the center
and start typing trends. Select Move tool and
place it in center. To create the isometric text, we need a reference first. We will create a
duplicate layer. Name it reference
for isometric view. Hit Okay. Hi Domain translator for now. And press Control or
Command T to transform. In the header options
set the rotation -30. Horizontal skew value only 30. Because the angle of
isometric click on Take. This will work as a reference. And we will please the
translate exactly on top of it. First, unhide it, and change
it to a different color. Let's go with the blue color. Hit okay. Right-click
on the layer and convert it into a smart object so that now we
can work non-destructively. Also, we are able to change
the text whenever we want. Let's adjust this text according
to the reference text. Press Control or
Command T to transform. By holding Control or
Command at just the points. You can take your time
for this process. Over. Only goal here is to
just match the reference text. If you're not able to
get 100% accuracy, even 90% can do the job. After you are done, just
click on taking the header. Now we don't want the
reference file, so delete it. Rename this layer
as texts 3D layer. Now open the blending options. Add, Drop Shadow, set
the blend mode Multiply. Color will be black, opacity five per cent,
angle, 90 degree. Distance, just to spread zero. And size ten pixels. Hit, Okay. We just
created a light shadow. Now you will see why we
use this drop shadow. We will create multiple
copies while holding Alt, press the up arrow
key to create a copy. Repeat the process until
we create 41 copies. In the previous lessons, we used color overlay for
showing the depth of 3D text. But now we are
using Drop Shadow. Select the 14th layer. Scroll down while holding Shift. Select the first
copy we created. Make sure you're not
selecting the bottom layer. Drag all layer to the Group
icon to create a group. You name this group
as 3D text layer. Next, select the top layer and rename it as top texts layer. And this layer will
work as shadow. Hide it for now and
select the top layer. We're going to add a
new layer style donate. So clear the previous style. Open the blending options. Add inner shadow. Set the opacity 60%. Blend mode will
be colored dodge, color will be white. Angle 90 degree. Distance, two pixel, jogs zero and size
also two pixel. Next, add a gradient overlay. The blend mode to
overlay opacity 100%. I'm using black and
white gradient, linear style angle one-twenty. And scale value 90%. Add Drop Shadow.
Color will be black. Set the blend mode to multiply. Opacity five per cent angle, 90 degree, distance 20 pixel. Size for the pixel. Shadow is looking very light. Let's set the
opacity 20 per cent. Now it's looking more realistic. Hit Okay? Collapse the effects. Select the shadow
layer and hide it. And clear it's Layer Style. Open the Blending Options. Click on Color Overlay. Color will be black. Set the blend mode to Normal. Opacity, 100 per
cent. Hit. Okay. Next, go to filter. Blur. Motion blur. Set the angle 90,
distance 50 pixel. Hit okay. Again, go to Filter Blur. But this time we will
choose causing blur. Set the radius ten. Hit Okay. While holding Shift, select the top layer and drag all layer and
group to the group. I can give it the name
3D text isometric. So we almost completed
70% of our work. But if you are happy
with the result, let it be the way how it is. But if you want to give
it a more unique look, we'll add another 3D layer
of stroke right beneath it. For this, we will
duplicate the group. Name it, 3D stroke. Hit Okay, and drag this group right below the isometric text. Now we will create the space between the stroke
and the letter. Use a down arrow key
and move it down. And it's up to you how much
distance you want to add. Expand the stroke group. Select the top texts layer
and clear it's Layer Style. Unhide the group and
the shadow layer. To see the effect mode clearly. Open the blending option
of top texts layer. Add color overlay. Let's give it the color yellow. Copy the color code. Hit. Okay. Next we will add stroke, change the white color and
paste the color code here. Hit Okay. The size 5-20 pixel. And position will be outside. Just hold, the value will
be the same just like this. Hit. Okay? Now we will
copy this layer style. Unhide the group expanded, select the first layer and
paste layer style over it. But we need to paste the style on all the layers
inside the group. Select this layer, scroll down. While holding Shift,
select the bottom layer. Right-click paste layer style. Sometimes it takes time to show the effect and then
we have the effect. I know it's looking
flat. Let's fix it. Scroll up, collapse the group. Open the Blending Options. Color Overlay, selected. Change the color from
yellow to black. Hit Okay. Set the blend
mode to multiply. Opacity ten per cent. Hit. Okay? Now this
is looking pretty. If you want to reduce the
exterior part of these texts, simply go to the group. Scroll down. Let's delete
ten layers from the bottom. So it's up to you how many
layers you want to delete. I think we need to delete for more layers from the bottom. Now it's looking more balanced. Scroll up, collapse the group. Select the top layer and
open it's blending options. They can drop shadow selected. Set the blend mode to Multiply. Color will be black. Opacity 20 per cent angle, 90 days tense, 20 pixels, spread zero. Size 40 pixel. Hit. Okay. Let's
work on shadows. Unhide the shadow layer. Selected and expand effects. I think all the
setting looks great. Let's just move the
shadow slightly up and also reduce the space between the Stroke
Group and the tax group. This is looking much
more button now. To make the background
mode present, they will add an adjustment
layer of gradient. Choose the black
and white gradient. Hit Okay. Set the
style gradient. The country words.
Increase the scale value. Let's set it to 50%. Hit, Okay? Change the
blend mode to color pan. Set its opacity 70 per cent. Rename this layer as the fact, look how wonderful it looks. Let's make this file
more structured. To make this file
more easy to use, we will expand the group and create a duplicate
layer of the top layer. Here It's Layer Style. Set opacity and fill
value zero per cent. Place it over the top. Now this layer will
be useful whenever we want to change the text
to any text we want. And I want to thank
you all of you people who are watching this. I hope you learned something
valuable in these lessons. And I would love
to see the result, how you created
your own 3D text.
