1. 3 Minute French Course 6 introduction: Bourgeois a B Avenue, Hello and welcome to three minute French course. Six. This course contains lessons 45 to 53 on DIT Follows on from course five. Just like before. You can work through this course in three minute chunks. Remember that if you keep your 30 time to just three minutes, you will maintain your enthusiasm for learning. French you're learning will become a daily habit that's easy to maintain, and you will remember new information much more easily. Before you start this course, make sure you're familiar with all the words and phrases. Relent in courses. 1234 and five as everything will be used throughout this course to, I hope you enjoy happy learning. 2. 3 Minute French Lesson 45a: Let's start this lesson with a quick recap of the words and phrases that we learned in the last lesson. How do you say in French? I haven't or I didn't juniper. You haven't or you didn't to Napa. He hasn't or he didn't you know about? She hasn't or she didn't in Napa. Pierre hasn't or P. I didn't Pierre Napa. We haven't or we didn't No Una Bomba. They haven't or they didn't in number. Now we'll start this course by adding a little more to the past tense. Or, as it's probably known dramatically, the present perfect EMTs on. We're going to look at forming questions in the past tense. So in the last lesson, we learned that the past tent was made up off to parts. For example, J. Margie means I have eaten and it's made up off an auxiliary verb, J, which means I have, and then a past participle. Mongie, which means eaten ser Jay McGhee means I have eaten. Then we learned that we can make this negative by putting a new onda apart around the auxiliary verb. So it becomes juniper Muji, which means I haven't eaten, so that's simply made up off the negative auxiliary verb juniper, which means I haven't on again the past participle Mongie. But what about if you want to ask a question in the past tense? Well, it's pretty simple or you have to do is change the auxiliary verb around slightly. Let's have a look at an example question. Abbey vou Margie Abbey Boomers e means Have you eaten Aviva Mongie? We learned in the last course that vou avai over the V means you have Well, if you switch them around, we get have a view, which means have you so abbeyville Muji means have you eaten? It's made up off of evil, which is a question auxiliary verb. And it means have you and then the past participle Margie means eaten. So if I have a rule, means have you and all you have to do is put the past participle on the end to ask a question. How would you ask in French, Have you ordered have even common day of evil come Monday? So, as you can see, forming questions in the past in French is so far quite simple, or you need is the auxiliary verb in the question format. So every evil and then just like before you can put a past participle on the end of evil Gommendy. 3. 3 Minute French Lesson 45b: How would you ask In French. Have you eaten? Have evil machine, Aviva Mosey. Have you reserved? Aviva has LV. Every vote has LV. We've seen that Mousavi means you have. And now have a vu we know means have you and we have to do is swap around the auxiliary verb to make it into a question. So the war ave becomes available on the two words joined together with a hyphen. So that's why I have evil has a hyphen in the middle, and you can do the same to any off the auxiliaries. To turn them into their question versions or you have to do is switch them round. And it's called inverting the auxiliary verb. So inversion means to switch to words around. Let's have a look at another example. His own. His own means they have is, um, Well, if we switch the two words around if we invert, um, we get until on TV on, we join the two words together with a hyphen, and it means, have they until so, how would you say in French? Have they ordered until Monday on Monday? Have they eaten? 20 more G on T Margie have they reserved on Tito has RV on T that has everything. So we've seen Abby View means have you? And now, until we know means have they Well, let's have a look at all the auxiliary verbs in their question format. So on the screen now you can see a list off the auxiliary verbs that we've learned so far. Now let's turn them all into questions. So Jay means I have on Don't forget that Jay is a contraction off. Sure, which means I and A which means have so G if you invite them, we get Asia Asia. And so we switched the words around and we joined together with a hyphen. Asia means have I to our to our means you have. And if we switch them around and join them together with a hyphen, we get at you at two, which means have you at you. And don't forget that the two version is used in informal situations. So if you're talking to a friend, you would say at two you are means he has Well, this one is a little bit strange, because when we invert them, it becomes a teal, a teal, and so the letter t appears in the middle. We'll talk about this in a moment. Similarly, l R which means she has becomes a tell tale. So that t appears again. We'll finish off the list and then we look at the reason for this. PF huh? PM huh. Means Pierre has Andi the question version off. Pierre is actually Pierre at Deal Pierre A teal which literally means Pierre has he news at home? News of own means we have. And if we invite them, we get ever knew Avenue which means have we have all new was a we've already seen becomes of evil And we also know that is don't becomes until to mean half they so Asia at you A till a 10 Pierre A till have a new of evil on unseeded 4. 3 Minute French Lesson 45c: We've just seen all the auxiliary verbs in the question form Asia at you. I killed I attend P s A t V. I won't do have a view on until And so I said you might have noticed that when you invert illa and l are they gain a little tea. Well, this is purely to make the word sound nicer to French years, A Thiel and Attell meaning has he and has she sound modernizer to French ears than at eel onda at l that stop in the middle at eel and L is called a global stop on by the French Don't like that. And so where they can, they'll often put extra letters to make words sound nicer so a teal and at in rather than ill and ill. So that's the only reason you put a T in the middle. And so it's a deal, and the tea is surrounded by hyphens. Similarly, when you use a name like Pierre or Marie, you put the name first and then you put a teal or a tale afterwards, if you ask me a question, so has Pierre, is Pierre at Ill and has Marie is marry at 10. And then you comport any past participle on the end of that to ask a question, for example. Mari attend Muji means Has Marie eaten? Literally? Marie? Has she eaten? Pierre? A Tiffany means Has Pierre finished? Literally. It means Pierre. Has he finished? And so that's how you invert with names. You just put the name first, followed by a teal or a tell. So now we've seen all the auxiliary verbs in the question format. How would you say, Have I eaten Asia? More seem Asia. More Jeannie, Have you eaten at two? Margie? Oh, Aviva Muji. And so you would use at two more J in informal situations when you're speaking to one person. Or you would use abbeyville Margie in either formal situations or situations where you're speaking to more than one person. How would you ask? Has he eaten at Emoji? A team Reggie, Has she eaten? I tell Margie. I tell Margie. Has Pierre eaten P s a. T? Margie Pierre, A team orgy 5. 3 Minute French Lesson 45d: How would you ask In French. Has Marie eaten marry? Marry a 10 Muji. Have we eaten? I have on numerous ge have all new Margie Have they eaten until Muji on team orgy? How would you ask? Have I waited? Asia Asia do have you waited at you at on do? Or a review at on you and the s on the end off. Do you can liaise with the A at the start of at on you and it will be pronounced Views that on you. How would you ask? Has he waited? Attila told you. I see that on you. Has she waited a tale at on you? I take that on you. Has Pierre waited Pierre a t lot on you, Pierre Attila told you. Has Marie waited? Marry you Marry a telephone? You have We waited. Have all new at on you or you can liaise the s and it will be pronounced. IPhone news app on Do have they waited on t that on you on tears at all New. Have I finished? Asia? Feeney! Asia! Feeney, have you finished at you? Feeney, have a roof. Feeney, 6. 3 Minute French Lesson 45e: How would you ask in French. Has he finished a Tiffany until Feeney has she finished? Attell? Feeney, I tell Feeney. Has Pierre finished here until Feeney Pierre a Tiffany has Marie finished. Marry a 10. Feeney. Mary, I think Finney have we finished? Have a new feeney have a new fee name. Have they finished until Feeney on t if you need. So we've learned in this lesson the question versions off the auxiliary verbs in French on their basically the inverted versions off the same auxiliary verbs that we learned in the last course. So Asia means have I at you on de Avenue both mean have you and you use after in informal situations when you're speaking to one person and you would use a veeru informal situations where you're speaking to one person, or in any situation where you're speaking to more than one person, A Thiel means, has he. And don't forget, the T in the middle is just there to make it sound nicer. A tell means Has she Pierre material means has Pierre. And so literally it means Pierre has he. You can invert any name in the past tense by putting the name first on, then either a teal for masculine names or a tell for feminine names. So, Pierre, a till means has Pierre. But if you want to say, has Marie will say Marry a tell have on new means, have we? And until means half they on. Don't forget that whenever you invert the auxiliary verb, you have to join the two words together with ah, hyphen. And just to reiterate the word inverting or inversion is the grammatical term to switch to words around. 7. 3 Minute French Lesson 45f: It's time now to practice what we've learned in this lesson. How do you say in French? Have you order some wine? I've even accommodative. I've evil. Come Monday. Duvan, Have you reserved a table for tonight? Every war has ever um tablet Post a swat, have a has a rating tablet posters far. Has Marie finished everything? Marry at if you need to marry a delfini too. Has he seen the car at Villa? But you a TV Love what you have. We done everything for tomorrow. Have a new fe two podium on Have a new fate to put him on. Have they taken the tickets for the train? I wanted to really be ate all the time until pre Leiby April account. Have you made dinner? Have evil failure. Dinny have evil failure. Teeny! Has she lost key for the room? A telltale doula. Claypool A tale Pell Do likely Paula Sharma Has PS sold the house? Pierre A telephone euphemism. Pierre a telephone. Islamism. Have they chosen the wine on TV? Brasil around on TV. Crazy love, huh? 8. 3 Minute French Lesson 45g: Now let's have a go at doing some reverse transitions. What do these friend sentences mean in English? Is you blinking? Car shows Asia Bubbly, aching tissues. Have I forgotten something? Clothes. Attila partake in the show's polluted Ginny Clodagh Till a particle, cautious politician E. Has clawed. Brought something for lunch on TV, on you Like what you on TV? Have they sold the car at the usual zika crucial down terrorism? A TV show? Has he chosen anything interesting at you? Funny, the lady said. Tell at you. Funny, the lady said. Tell, Have you finished? It's five PM and so in French. In that sentence we've said D set air, which literally means 17 oclock or 5 p.m. Have a new plea like Lady Pierre have on nuclear likely to appear. Have we taken PS key at your feet too, at your fate too. Have you done everything on TV? Serfin? Once it reviews of feeling Have you seen this film? A tale Brew coffee? I tell you Really coffee. Has she drink the coffee? Every visibly ate a passport, Every view, clearly Passport. Have you forgotten the passports? So in this last sentence, the S on the end of rule can liaise with the over a start off early so you can say every visibly oh review. So it is optional, but usually you will hear people the A's s with the area so visibly a passport. 9. 3 Minute French Lesson 45h: What we'll do now are some recap translations to incorporate words and phrases that we learned in previous lessons. How do you say in French? I don't have the tickets with me, Johnny Pahlevi Ever more is you need polities of it more. Is it very far from here? Excuse secretly. Want easy excuse it. Want easy. And so in this sentence, we've said Ellie Tor Petite, which literally means she is too small because in French, all objects don't forget or either masculine or feminine. And if you're referring to a feminine object instead of saying it is too small, you have to say she is too small, referring to the television. And so the word pretty, which means small, also needs made feminine. And that's why it's pretty eked. L. A. Top it it literally. She is too small, but it's referring to the television. There's a slight difference. So, too, it's a slight difference in the new sound. So where it's just t u. It's pronounced too. And when it's t o u T, it's pronounced too to to so at to faith too. How would you ask? Have you seen Pierre at two rupiah? VPs. Did you see Pierre at U V. P s have a movie, Pierre. Have I or did I Asia have you? Or did you at two or every room, depending on whom are speaking to? Has he or did he a till? Has she or did she? A tale has Pierre Or did Pierre Pierre have we? Or did we? I don't know. Have they all? Did they on tier in this lesson will add a little more to the past tense on. We'll look at negative questions in the past tense. A few lessons ago, we learned how the past tense was formed. It's made up of two parts. For example, J. McGee, which means I have eaten, is made up of the word J, which is an auxiliary verb, meaning I have, and Muji, which is a past participle. And this word means eaten. We then learn how to make it negative. We have to do is put a note in front of the A and a power after it. And so we get something like is unique about Muji. I haven't eaten so the juniper part is the negative auxiliary verb, and then more J is the past participle. And then we learned how to put it into a question. Abou Mongie means Have you eaten on? It's made up off every rule, which is a question, Or is the reverb meaning? Have you and then the past participle, more G, which means eaten in this lesson. We're going to learn how to make it into a negative question. And here's an example. Knave Evil Pamela Gee, Navy blue Pamela G. It means, haven't you eaten Neveu? Pamela G. And it's made up off Navid Bouba, which is the negative question Orkla reverb. And it means, haven't you? And then more J is the past participle meaning eaten. So Navid Bouba means, haven't you? And all you have to do is put a past participle on the end of that. How would you say then? Haven't you ordered? Never even pack common d never go back on Monday. Haven't you eaten? No group 16. 3 Minute French Lesson 46b: How would you ask In French. Haven't you reserved a table? No. Ive oupa has ever even taboo. Never even packet of Aaron tableau. So we have to do to make a negative. A question in the past tense in French is take the question auxiliary verb. Put an end apostrophe in front of it and power after it. And then you comport the past participle in the end. So we've seen that Abby rule, which means have you becomes Navid Gupta and this means, haven't you? You can do the same toe any off the question of Hillary's to make them into negative question versions, for example, until means have they? Well, no. Until power? No, until power means, haven't they? So how would you ask? In French? Haven't they ordered 19 back on Monday? 19 back on Monday? Haven't they eaten until Tom O. J. Until Pamela Z. Haven't they reserved a table 19 batters over even tablet? No till Packers have a tablet. Let's have a look at all the auxiliary verbs in the negative question from So Asia means have I Nature pa means, haven't I at you? Meaning have you becomes natural, which means haven't you a till means. Has he? Whereas natural power means, hasn't he? Similarly a tale means, has she So, Natalie Far means, hasn't she? Pierre Gattine was as Pierre Pierre nattily means hasn't Pierre. So you put the apostrophe in front off. Just the a teal part. The Pierre goes at the very, very front. So Pierre, not Ilta. And you can do this with any name Marie Nataliya would be. Hasn't Marie Avenue was have we so never new power means. Haven't we have evil means, Have you? Which means now, Viva papa means, haven't you, Andi? Until means have they so in Until power means, haven't they? How would you say then? Haven't I eaten? No niche, Pamela G. Haven't you eaten? Not you, Pamela. Gee, hasn't he eaten? Natalie? Pamela G. Not till tomorrow, G 17. 3 Minute French Lesson 46c: How would you ask In French. Hasn't she eaten nothing? Nothing. Pamela G hasn't. Pierre eaten PM Metin Emoji Pierre 19 Pamela Gee, hasn't Marie eaten? Marie? Haven't we eaten? Never knew Pamela G Never knew. Pamela. Gee, haven't they eaten? Monty Muji Monty! Tom O J Haven't I waited? I need you back out on you Nature Pass it on to you have a new waited that you pass it on you or never do. Hasn't he waited? Not pass it on to you Not till pass it on to you, Hasn't she waited? Nothing bad out on you, Not pass it on to you Hasn't p a weighted Pierre? Not you, Pierre. Nothing on you. Hasn't Marie waited? Marry Natalie out on you? Marry, Not pass it on to you. Haven't we waited? Never knew. Pass it on to you. No one knew. Pass it on to you. Haven't they waited 19. Pass it on to you. No. Until pass it on to you. Haven't I finished? Nature Khalfani Nature Khalfani 18. 3 Minute French Lesson 46d: How would you ask In French? Haven't you finished? Not your caffeine E or Nevo pas. Fini, Hasn't he finished? Natalie Feeney? No, Till Palffy Me? Hasn't she finished Nothing. Caffeine e metal, caffeine e Hasn't Pierre finished? Pierre? Nothing. Khalfani Pierre, not caffeine. E Hasn't Marie finished marrying a little caffeine? E Mary mattered Khalfani. Haven't we finished? Never knew caffeine E never knew. Papini, Haven't they finished Monty Ruffini? No, Until Path Feeney. So in this lesson, we've learned how to form the negative question. Past tense we have to do is make the auxiliary verb into a negative question. And then you can put the past participle onto the end of that. So we've had nature bar, which means, haven't I? Nah. CIPA or Navid Bouba both mean, haven't you? You use natural Papa. When you're speaking to one person, you know very well so it's the singular informal version. And then you can use Navy Bouba when you want to be more formal or when you're talking to a group people. So it's the formal singular or the plural version, not Ilta means, hasn't he now tell Papa, hasn't she? Pierre Matilda means hasn't Pierre, but you can replace Pierre with any name. If it's a female name, then instead of natty LBA, you would have to say not help. Never knew. Power means, haven't we? And then non TBA means, haven't they? And you comport any past participle under the end of any of those to make a negative question in the past tense in French. 19. 3 Minute French Lesson 46e: It's time now to practice what we've learned in this lesson. How do you say in French? Haven't they chosen 19 fash crazy until factuality. Haven't we finished? Not all new Papini never knew. Papini hasn't Marie called Marinatto happily? Marie, Haven't you eaten today? No. Oh, not you, Pamela. Haven't you tried? The orange juice is delicious. Not even close to the heart. Not you Possess a You lose. You go home later this year. So in this sentence, we have to say l a day this year because referring to the orange juice and the orange juice is a masculine noun, or rather than where juice is Liuzhou Dawn, the juice of orange. And so in French. You refer to it as he rather than it. So you say he is delicious. L a day this year, whereas in English we say it is delicious. And that's because in French every noun has agenda. It's either masculine or feminine. And if you refer to a masculine object, you refer to it as he eel. And if you refer to a feminine object, you refer to it as she. L so in English, referring to the orange juice we say it is delicious, but in French, you say L a Dallas, you How would you ask? Hasn't he ordered any red wine? Natalie Paco Monday Devil whose Natalie back on Monday devour holes. And so in this sentence we have do van holes rather than do Van whose because its a negative sentence. And in French when you have a negative sentence, the word for any is just do not attack on Monday. Dieu values. How would you ask? Hasn't she told Pierre? Nothing bad it appear nothing paddy appear. And so in this sentence, the word here doesn't mean anything in English. But literally it means to Pierre. Hasn't she told to Pierre? And you can liaise the t on the end off the word d with the A so natural Paddy Tapia Hasn't Michelle seen this film mission that will produce the film? Michelle Nottil produced the film. So the name Michelle in French with one l is a man's name, whereas with a double l in an e On the end is a woman's name. So Michelle Natalie Proview's Affin haven't made paid the bill Not a puppy love No until Papa Lady soon Haven't we hired the call for two weeks. Novel, New Pal Way Love at your Policemen. So we've been looking at negative questions in the past in French. An example of this is Navid Obama G. Which means haven't you eaten and it's made up off a negative auxiliary verb Navid grouper and a past participle. Margie, Haven't you eaten? However, in English, the phrase Neveu Pamela G can mean two different things. You could translate it as haven't you eaten, but it can also be translated as didn't you eat? So there are two ways to say it in English. However, luckily, there's only one way to say it in French. So whether you want to say, haven't you eaten or didn't you eat? You always say navigable Pamela G in French. So how would you say in French? Haven't I eat everything nature? Pramoj too. *** Pramoj too. Or didn't I? Nature power, Haven't you or didn't you? You can use natural power if you're speaking to one person you know very well or Naveed Bouba. If you're being more formal or if you're speaking to more than one person, had you say, Hasn't he or didn't he? No. Till Papa, hasn't she or didn't she? Nutella hasn't Pierre. Or didn't Pierre Pierre Matilda, haven't we? Or didn't we, Nevil New Power, haven't they? Or didn't they? Montilla? Now let's have a recap. Listen off the past tense on Bring everything together. Let me also just let you know that there is another name for this past tense that we have been learning. The correct grammatical name for this tense is the present perfect tense. I know it seems weird to have a tense called the president perfect when it's talking about the past, but that's what it's called. We'll look a bit more at the different names for tenses in the late lesson, but for now, just know that this past tense can also be called the present perfect tense. So basically the past tense is made up off to parts in French. However, you can change the first part, called the auxiliary verb, to say a variety of different things. So let's start by looking at the basic pass temps. Here's an example J. Margie J. Margie means I have eaten. So we have the auxiliary verb j, which means I have on the past participle Muji, which means eaten. We can then turn this tense negative by changing the auxiliary VEB. So here's an example. Juniper McGee, Janay Palmer Z means I haven't eaten. So we have now the negative or the reverb is your neighbor, which means I haven't on. Then the past participle Mongie means eaten. We can turn this tense into a question by changing the auxiliary verb, for example of evil. Margie Avivim O j means have you eaten every Faramarzi and so we have of evil, Which means have you and this is the question auxiliary verb and then the past participle stays the same. Moon jae means eaten and so are we. Changing is the auxiliary verb. We can then make the negative past tense into a question. For example, Neveu, Pamela G. No Evil Pamela G means Haven't you eaten? So we have never bouba Which means, haven't you? That's the negative question organ reverb on. Then once again the past participle, it stays the same. Muji Muji means eaten. So now we've Obama g, Haven't you eaten? 31. 3 Minute French Lesson 47b: We've just had a quick recap off the four different ways to use the past tense in French. The basic past tense, the negative past tense, the question past tense on then the negative question bust ends Well, in the past few lessons, we've also been learning that there are always two ways to say the same thing in the past tense in English. But in French, you don't have to worry about that. For example, if we take the auxiliary verb Mousavi Mousavi which means you have on port more G On the end we get views of emoji, which means you have eaten. But it could also mean you ate. You have eaten, would be was having Moon Jae in French and you ate would also be was an emoji. I would have if any would be. Either you have finished or just you finished was have a Fini with a day at on you I was having at on you could be you have waited or just you waited in the negative. We could have Vunibaka, which we can translate either as you haven't or you didn't wanna Pepe so you never Obama g could mean either you haven't eaten or you didn't eat. I have a family. Wanna be Palffy Knee Could mean you haven't finished or you didn't finish. Do you have a pass it on? You could be translated either As you haven't waited or you didn't wait in the question format. We could have something like Abby rule, which means have you? But it could also mean. Did you so have evil? Have even more g Could therefore mean Have you eaten or did you eat? Have a Fini. Have you finished or did you finish? I have a bruise. That on you? Well, this will be translated either as have you waited Or did you wait? Finally the negative question. We could have something like Navid Bouba, Navy bouba. And this means, haven't you? Or didn't you? So let's have a look at the three examples Navigable Pat McGee. Never What? That could mean in English either. Haven't you eaten or didn't you eat No viable path, Feeney. That could be translated either. As haven't you finished? Or didn't you finish? Now we will pass it on. You never will pass it on you. That would mean either haven't you waited or didn't you wait? And so all you need to form this tense is an auxiliary verb and then a past participle. And even though this is a past tense, don't forget that the actual proper grammatical name is the present perfect tense. So if you ever have to look it up, look for the present perfect tense in French, and this is what you'll find. 32. 3 Minute French Lesson 47c: It's time now to put everything that we've been learning about the past tense into practice . How do you say in French? She sold the car a lavonne Do you know about you? 11? Do you love what you We have lost the card news. Haven't failed to look at news of own peril. De Luca, I booked a table for everybody. She has a value in tablet form to the mound. Jay has a entire global to the mind. They didn't make a reservation in Nam. Profiting has a restaurant. You know it You I mean you have uncommon day in pizza 33. 3 Minute French Lesson 47d: Now let's have a go at doing some French to English translations. What did these sentences mean in English? Your past getting beyond Jay Z said about your Pascali. Go hand. I chose this car because it's big and so in the sentence in French, you say Pasqua l A go hand or it joins together to say past scary gone, which literally means because she is big. So don't forget that all mounds in French are either masculine or feminine. And if they're masculine, you refer to them as he rather than it on def their feminine. You refer to them as she rather than it. So in this sentence, literally, it means I chose this car because she is big bourgeoisie, said Rachael Pasqua, L England or Pascali gone, Pierre. Until Lucilla. Pierre at in Visalia. Has Pierre seen that? Or across? I mean, did PSC that is your name back? Completely, Genie, back on p. I didn't understand. Or of course it does. So the t on the end of fee if you want you can liaise with the U at the start of Yoon. So either Jay fai una has a vast on or J fate Tuna out of Assam. It's 70 cents. This wasn't a Nissan team se spots on the same team. I'm not going to the hotel gin a paddle hotel, June hotel. So just to recap, whenever you have your new rather than saying Juno vapor alone till you can bring the jury and the new together and make it sound a bit more like June Jr a puzzle hotel off services only in speaking, not in writing. So June Vapor Al Hotel on again the s on the end of power. You can liaise with the next world, which just in a so you can say Uh huh Oh, Plaza June Vapor Hotel. Rita L A. Reid. It's eight o'clock. 36. 3 Minute French Lesson 48a: Here's a very useful phrase in French. It means I can the ship You might be wondering why I can isn't Gia pre since can I? Is Lesia well in the past? Both juniper Andi Gia pre existed for ICANN. However, nowadays people only tend to say for ICANN you will hear Japie from time to time But it's considered a lot more formal. However, can I is always Asia and never push you. However, you may also hear people say simply as a way of asking, Can I have a look at these two examples? Preacher of Lassila Group of Wasilla. They both mean the same thing in English, but their slight different in French. So they both mean. Can I see that? But you will often hear French people use gyp o to mean, Can I on they simply raise their voices at the end of the sentence to make it sound of the question. So please give us a lot means the same thing as a group of Wasilla. The second example means literally I can see that it's a more colloquial way of speaking. Colonial just means the way people speak in normal situations out on the street. Now, it's perfectly fine for you to just use freesia all the time. Whenever you want to say, Can I? I just wanted to make you aware of the different ways that you might come across on that you might hear people using. So most of the time you'll hear people say it please you to mean can I? But occasionally you might hear them say super to mean Can I as well? So what would be the two ways that you could say in French? Can I do it tomorrow? Crucially, found a man. Oh, did you put a failed demand? 37. 3 Minute French Lesson 48b: How would you say in French? I can do it tomorrow, but not today. I can hire a car if you want and you pull away Invite your civilly Is your pearly weight in virtual civil Really Just like you comport if you want at the start of a sentence you can put Steve of Willie at the start of a sentence to So how would you say in French if you want, I can go to the shop for you Civil a jumper civil A couple examples So we say here all mag zone because the word for shop is masculine. Look mags on andi at le, which means to the becomes all when you put them together. O magazine Steve will a jumper away or example How would you say in French? Can I go there tomorrow? Freesia Allen Ledezma, please. You're a lot dumber. Well, don't forget that mocha Locally, you might hear Jumper Alina Demon. It would be the two different ways to say Can I say something important? So don't forget that after Kyoko Shores, if you want to put an adjective, you have to use little word do in front of the adjective. And if the addictive starts with a vowel instead of d e, it's d apostrophe Soquel officials dump off. 38. 3 Minute French Lesson 48c: juniper means I can. On the opposite off Jumper is Jenna, which means I can't. You know, in speaking, your often hear the azure and the no sound more like gin rather than is your no sale here, June Pepe, Surgeon Pippa means icon How would you say in French? I can't see it. So in this hasn't so far we've had super, which means I can fair meaning to make or to do cve will A Which means if you want. Do what you even though in English we can say I don't have a car in French, Rodman saying. I don't have a car. You would say I don't have any car because in French, if you say, is your neighbor, you know what you That could also mean I don't have one car, meaning you might have two cars. So it's better to say is you need back. Do what? You, which means I don't have any car pavillion Who should reap Askar and also in speaking rather than it being pronounced is you need bat. Do what you the pat on the do sound like they are Onward journey pad What you so Jean Pierre Papin, you hold your passport? 39. 3 Minute French Lesson 48d: Here's a phrase that's related to pleaser. Pull it through, Pull a boo. It means can you of evil. So how would you say in French? Can you see it? Vivo Lavoie Vive la voie Or how would you say? What can you see? Just a sip of Willy. Jumper had a fever. Willie, How would you say I would like to help? But I don't have any money. She would hide it in May June. A paddle. You would raise a major. You can add a little bit extra to the word Eddie on we get Medi Medi, which means to help me, Mehdi. So the murder at the start means me. And then Eddie is toe help. So many toe Help me on D in English. The emergency word mayday comes from this phrase. When people shout Mayday! It means help me. So how would you say in French? Can you help me? I believe you may be believe you Me? Are you going to help me? I leave You may be I live with today how we again to help me. Co Montolivo Mayday! Montolivo! Maybe 41. 3 Minute French Lesson 48f: How would you say in French? Excuse me, Can you help me, please? Excuse me more. We've made a civil play. Excuse moi. Poor if you made a simple play. Here's another phrase that has moved at the stones. Men want a move monthly. It means to show me Monty, the murder means me. Onda Monta means to show so me. Monty, how would you say in French? Can you show me? Pull the Vilma Montri. Poor Mitt. Montri, Can you show me where I can pay Puma? Monterey Pop Puku meme entree You prepare? Can you show me where I can hire a call? Preview? Monterey was you Pollux Weight Watcher. Puma mantra. Would you pull away? In what year are you going to show me tomorrow? Olivo, Mantra edema. I leave you my mantra edema. Can you show me where I can wait? I believe you may Monterey would you put a Toronto Puma? Monterey was you? Pat, can you show me the wine? Beliveau mantra Montri, can you show me the call? Puma Montreal about you. My mantra 42. 3 Minute French Lesson 48g: we've just learned that memo Antley means to show me Well, if we take the move away from the start, we're left with Monty. Monta means to show mantra the verb Mantei, which means the show is usually followed by another word, which means to so Monta are means to show to. For example, if you want to say something like, can you show the car to Pierre, then you would have to use the word are for two, so it would be cool. Evil mantra. Love. Watch your Pierre piu Montana, but you appear in English. There are two different ways that you can say. Can you show the cart? Appear? Firstly, you can say, Can you show the cart appear? But secondly, we could say, Can you show Pierre the car so we can switch round the car with Pierre? If you put Pierre first in English, then you get rid of the word, too. So the first sentence can you show the car to Pierre. But when we put Pierre in front of the car, then the two disappears. Can you show Pierre the car? This doesn't happen in French, however. You always have to say to Pierre in French or a Pierre Because no matter where he is in the sentence, you're still showing the car to him. So when friends, you always have to use the word. So in French, both of these sentences are the same. Can you show the car to Pierre? Andi, Can you show Pierre? The car would both be pool evil. Montreal, A watcher appear. In fact, Monta is always followed by our If you're showing something to somebody, whether the two is mentioned in English or not. For example, can you show Marie where the shop is? Well, literally in French, you have say, Can you show to Marie where the shop is? Who gave you mantra at Marie William Exam Full review. Montreal Marie will a maximum. So again, literally, you're saying, Can you show to Marie? Where is the shop? Another example is I'm going to show Pierre later, while in French would have to say to Pierre. So you say Juve mantra appear Pluta. You have a mantra. Appear pollute half on literally. That means I'm going to show to Pierre later. And so in English, we don't always have to say the word to after show. But in French you always have to use the word in front of the person you're showing something to. The only exception to all of this is when you say, show me, which is just meh, Montri. And so that's because in French the word move can mean me or to me. So you don't need the extra word. So can you show me? Would be to evil men, Montali? 43. 3 Minute French Lesson 48h: How many? Same French can you show me? Believable mantra. Poor woman. One tree Can you show Pierre believe mantra appear. Pull the woman trapped here. And so let's where we have to say Can you show to Pierre Prove even Monta appear. How would you say? Can you show Marie Puku mantra memory? I believe you. Montreal Marie, Can you show me where the bank is? You may Montri. Well, Ivanka, my mantra will a bunk. I'm going to show something to Pierre Juve mantra Ankle shows appear Joe Montana. Keiko showed appear I'm not going to show it to Marie Gin PayPal A mantra Amar e Eugene vapor plume entree memory. So don't forget that when you want to say it with a verb, you put the word look in front of the verb. So to show is Monta to show it looked Monte gin vapor. Lou Montri at Marie. How would you say in French? Can you show me where I can hire a car? Prove evil. Memon Train was upolu Even what year movie? Bouman train. Would you pull away in? Watcher, Can you show Pierre where the shop is? Montreal Pierre William Exam? With whom entree appear way too mag zone in English. In this sentence, we say, Can you show Pierre where the shop is? But in French, you would literally say, Can you show to Pierre? Where is the shop? So that's where you say way blue mags on You would never say in French Full review Montoya Pierre Who blew mags on a You always say way Blue mags on so poorly Vermont reappear Wait a magazine. 44. 3 Minute French Lesson 48i: Here's your last phrase for this lesson. Medea murder, Dia. It means to tell me Medea. So the word DEA means to tell on the murder ever start means me media. So how would you ask In French? Can you tell me? Believable Medea? Poor vivo media. Can you tell me where I can pay movie Medea? Whoever media. Can you tell me where I can hire a car? Prove even media Super Louis and watch prove. Even media usually wait and watch. Are you going to tell me I leave you Medea? I leave you Medea. Can you tell me what time breakfast is on? Literally in French? Who would say, Can you tell me what time is the breakfast? Provable media? A killer Aleppo Division E prove evil Medea. A killer elevated the genie. Can you tell me if I have paid? And don't forget that the word for if in French is see from the phrase cva bully, which means if you want Puma DEA, C j p a Vivo Media C J P. Can you tell me why? Viva Medea! Puma DF Pacquiao, Can you tell me tomorrow we've already out The man who gave you Media doma. So in this lesson, we've had super, which means I can fair means to do or to make cve will a means. If you want gin, Pippa means icon prove evil means can you a means to help Mehdi means to help me. Mantei means to show memo entree means to show me. And we also learned that usually the very Mantei is followed by the word which means to show to somebody. So whoever you're showing has to have the word in front of them in French. So Monta appear would be to show Pierre or literally to show to Pierre. So Monta are means to show to and then we just let that Madea means to tell me. 45. 3 Minute French Lesson 48j: It's time now to practice what we've learned in this lesson. How do you say in French? I could do that tomorrow if you want. Gyp affair. Salah demands superfast salon demands. Really? I can see the train jeep of wild time Ship of y Little. Where is everything? Puma Montri way too believe you? Me, Montri wayto I'm going to tell Pierre the hotel's address. Jebediah appear land rest a hotel. JD appear Latendresse Hotel. I can do everything later, but I'm too busy now. Juba Theft to Pluta may just be top of repayment. No. Did you have to Pluta major sweet topically payments alone. Can you see it? Believe lavoie. But it can also mean to so Java component may pat Tall, young, but not too well. 54. 3 Minute French Lesson 49f: So we've just seen that Juve compon means I understand you infringe where we can change it slightly and make it negative On we get June Viacom Pompa. So we put a note in front of the vote on a path after come home, Jenna, who can pump? But don't forget that usually in French, instead of saying you know you'll often hear people say Jin Jin Viacom Pompa I don't understand you. So how would you say in French? Jay Polly Francais. Orquesta Hunt year So the Palais ends in e. R. So to put it in the past tense, we change the ER to an e with an accent on you. Put J in front J badly. I have spoken or I spoke. Jay, Polly Frosty or restaurant here. I spoke French at the restaurant yesterday. 55. 3 Minute French Lesson 49g: How would you say in French? Can you speak in French, please? Proving Rupali on Francis's Roupoli Provo Palais on Francais Civil plea. This next word is an adverb now, usually in English adverbs And in l y on in French. They tend to end in the letters M E N t pronounced mom. So this adverb is launched more long to moon and it means slowly Lawnd moan. So how would you say? Can you speak slowly? Who gave you a lot? Well, how would you say more slowly? You don't small too long tomorrow. Can you speak more slowly? Please? Poor Eva. Pilot Cleland Mancebo Play! Who gave you Pilot Cleland Merciful play. Excuse me, I don't understand you. Can you speak more slowly? Please Excuse me More Jinju Kampamba, I hope I hope you don't conceivably excusing what? Pompa of a voepel. April. And conceivably, we already conjugated the verb Palaly which means to speak into the past in the sentence where we had J parley. Which meant I spoke so See if you can have a go at this sentence. How would you say in French? He spoke very slowly Ill Upali Thailand L a Poly three Bluntman. Or how would you say she spoke to slowly? L a parlay tolerant Mom L A parlato 56. 3 Minute French Lesson 49h: How would you say in French? He didn't speak very slowly. You didn't percolate for a long moment. Una properly trained, we didn't speak in French. Noona von PAPP Early infancy, New haven, Properly infancy. We learned the phrase you Kompong on June Kampamba in this lesson. But in the last course, we don't have to form the past tense off the verb to understand. So see, if you remember how to say I didn't understand because you didn't speak very slowly. June A pack amply Pascoe have a paper trail. John A Pat Compli Bhaskar Wannabe Papa late So I didn't understand. Is June a pat completely so completely? Is the past tense off? Understand? So June a pack completely. How would you say Marie spoke very slowly and it was perfect for me. Maria, populate Silent Moon A set a path. Maria, Pilot trail on tape. I'm going to speak with Sophie tomorrow. Juvie partly avec so feed a mom Juvie Palley of extra feed the mom. So in this lesson, we've learned to V which means to find pound you meaning lost is your CPL do means I am lost or J paddle do means I have lost or I lost. Did you come home? Means I understand in French means I don't understand. Then we let me comport the word vou in front of Kompong on we get Juve compon, which means I understand you means I don't understand you. Then we learned the very pad early, which means to speak. And then finally an adverb. We learned a lot more, which means slowly on I said that generally in English adverbs, ending letters L Y and generally in French adverbs end in the letters M E N t, which is pronounced more so long tomorrow, which means slightly. 57. 3 Minute French Lesson 49i: it's time now to practice what we've been learning in this lesson. How do you say in French? I can't find the key Gin Partovi likely Gin popat. Who may likely? Can you help me? I'm lost por favor. Maybe just found you. Whoever may they just people do. I've lost everything J pound you to JPL due to I don't understand Michelle His income from Michelle Gin Com pompom Michelle, can you find Marie Louisville Tobermory for review to memory? I believe you, Pilot, It's lost! Saif Al, Do say that I do. Pierre is lost. P s a pound. You p s a pal. New. I lost the car yesterday. J panel. Do you love what you have here? JPL? Do you love what you have here? 58. 3 Minute French Lesson 49j: I just wanted to make a little interception here to talk about something curious, infringe in this course. I like to add things slowly and not give too much information in one go. If you learn too much in one go, it tends to overburden the brain, and it makes it harder to hold on to new information. However, there is an extra little bit off French structural information that I want to add here just to put it out there. Don't worry if you don't quite remember it yet, as I will be going over it again in a later lesson. But I just wanted to start the ball rolling in number three off the last practice translations the English was I have lost everything on I said the French was JPL. Due to now, that was a perfectly acceptable answer that would be understood by all French speakers. However, a more grammatically correct way of saying it would be J to peddle do J £2 do in French. There were two tends to go in between the auxiliary verb on the past participle when you're talking in the past tense, so the auxiliary verb is J. Onda the past participle is peddled you. And so we say J two pale do Rob van jpl due to they would both be understood. But J £2 you is more grammatically correct than j fell due to Let's have a look at some more examples in English they have eaten. Everything you would say in French is on to McGee is on to Mongie. So the auxiliary verb is is, um and the past participle is more G. So replace to in between those ears on to McGee, Have you seen everything? Would be every vou to view every vote to you. The same thing goes with the word tall, which means too much in French. They tend to place tall in the same place as we've been placing two in between the auxiliary verb on the past participle. So, for example, I have bought too much would be Jato, Ashby J. Or have you eaten? Too much would be have evil Tom Margie have ableto margie. So like I said, if you don't remember this, don't worry. But just note that usually French speakers will place the words to Onda tall in between the auxiliary verb on the past participle when they're speaking in the past tense. I'll just do a few extra practice translations based on this new unveiling. So how do you say in French? I have finished everything. J to Feeny. J to Feeny. Have you bought too much abbeyville? Tobashi. Have you told Vashti? Have they brought too much until top up off day until Topa both day. They have lost everything it is on to tell you is on to tell you Marie has that too much marry at Hoagie Marry a toddy. He spoke too much yesterday in a toe paddle. Eight year that hopefully Yeah. Did you take everything? A tale Topi A tale Topi Did you understand everything? Every vote to complete Have a vote to complete. I sold everything yesterday J Tuvan do Yeah J 200 a year I drank too much J. Tobu J. Tobu We pay too much new Devon Topi News of on Topi 59. 3 Minute French Lesson 49k: Now let's have a go at doing some reverse translations. What do these friends sentences mean in English? A live openly, fancy Oliver Parry. Fancy. Are you going to speak French? Yeah, they are Asia, pal. Do manifest Bow. Yeah, it is a JPL du monde. Espo. Yesterday I was in Paris and I lost my passport. Excuse memoir. Puma D J Pedal. You might want you Excuse me. More movie comedy JPL Do what You Excuse me. Can you help me? I've lost my car. Jean Marie Gin. Pepe, I can't find Marie Spc Possible approval. The parallel on tomorrow. Civil plea spc perceived Porvoo do parallel play. Is it possible for you to speak slowly, please? J peril Do land. Presto! Tell we wouldn't want Trey. Really? J peril Do address Dotel the room entree relay. I've lost the hotels and arrests. Can you show me where it is literally in the sentence you're saying rather than where it is where he is? Because the hotel lortel is masculine. So in French you refer to it as a he rather than it. So instead of saying, can you show me where it is? You say? Can you show me where he is for evil. My mantra. Who e d Preacher Pilot Havoc view Preacher Pilot Do can I speak with you? It's you, pal. Do It's you, pal. Do are you lost? You can palm you compound Baku May Plateau I understand a lot, but not everything available today in tablet for some person We've Oto in tablet pose and person can you find a table for five people? 60. 3 Minute French Lesson 49l: What we'll do now are some recap translations to incorporate words and phrases that we learned in previous lessons. How do you say in French? I would like a table for four, please. You would say in Tablet Cool Cat, A civil play Did you win? The Heisman Tablet will catalyse Ripley. How much is it for six days? Se communion procedure, say Comey on procedural. It's 30 euros per month. Se taunt a whole family se taunt. Aho. Pamela, it's 80 euros. Say get her Vantu hole. They can't Travanti a whole. How much is it for four days, Seiko? Me Ample. Katherine Seiko. Me Ample. I think it's fantastic. Mom was a fantastic for more Say fantastic. It isn't good. It's absolutely extraordinary. Sunni Pabon, stay absolute mont extraordinaire. Sunni baboon Say absolute Montek starred in there. Everything is here to TTC total to see how much is it for two days, Seiko? Me Ample. Do you say come Yongpo? Did you excuse me? The bill, please Excuse me. More lettuce. Johnson! Roupoli. Excuse them were logician. Safe or more Sunni Pep ol staple More. It isn't for her. It's for me. Jude Radio in tablet for 2017 play. You would raise your tablet for 20 f so conceivably id like a table for three people, please. And coffee for more. I'm Cafe pmoi A coffee for me Madan a profit madan a profit. My turkey is perfect. You've raised your advances. Did you raise Esugei live on C roupoli? I would like to try the wine. Please say we'd start a whole say with Santa Hole. It's 800 euros. Sassy madan Satsuma Dunned. That's my turkey Previous a yellow police in play please. Just regular policing will play. Can I try the chicken, please? 62. 3 Minute French Lesson 50a: We'll start this lesson with a quick recap of the words and phrases that we learned in the last lesson. Had his aim French to find to pay lost pound You I am lost. Is your seat algae I've lost use a pound You I understand. Did you camp on? I don't understand. Gen Calm Pompa, I understand you. Did you have to come home? I don't understand you, Jean Luc Pompa to speak properly. A slowly launch moon. Now here's your first phrase for this lesson. You just see just say it means I know is you see you can use just see to mean I know, But you can also use it to mean I know how. For example, if you look at this sentence did you say pilot Francie, Did you see by Les Francais It means I know how to speak French literally. It means I know to speak French But you can use the phrase just see to mean I know or I know how. Another example is as you say, affair. You just sail affair and this means I know how to do it literally. It means I know to do it. But in French just say can be translated into English, as I know or I know how so in French you don't need to use the word for how in this situation you simply say you just stay and then you put available in the end. Another point to note is that the French would never say I can speak French or I can speak English using jumper instead of saying I can. They would always use I know how by using Just see Did you say, pal infancy? It only means I can speak French and English or literally I know how to speak French and English. You say belief on say it only. So how would you say in French? I know how to speak French. Did you say pal infancy? Did you say, pal? If Francie or how would you say I can speak French? Is your safe patty from C? Did you say Bailly fancy? So don't forget that in French. Rarely would you hear somebody say super Bali Francais. They tend to say just say belief on steam. If you used Juniper however, instead of just say by mistake, you would be perfectly understood. So if you did say you put Bali fancy. They would know what you mean. But generally you would hear just say ballet fluency, which literally means I know how to speak French rather than I can speak French. 63. 3 Minute French Lesson 50b: How would you say in French? I know what time dinner is. Literally. You would say I know what time is the dinner? Just say I killer eluded me. Just say I Kayla led me. I know where Just say you just say you. So you just say means I know Well, you can make it negative And you get Jin Saper June Saper Word for word. It's your note Saper But just like when we had Junior Pepper and I said You can pronounce it June Pepper When it's saying Junior Scapa, you can se Jin's EPA So June state bar means I don't know How would you say in French? I don't know how to speak Spanish June se papal espanol Giuseppe Palais Espanol So you don't need to say the word for how so Jin Saper means I don't know or I don't know how Using June se pa instead of gin Pippa, how would you say in French? I can't speak Italian, but I can speak French. June se papal Italian made you say pal infancy. You shouldn't say pop a little young major Stapley Francie. And so again, in this situation in French rather than saying I can't speak Italian. They would say I don't know how to speak Italian How would you say? I don't know where I can buy a map? Usually. Say Papa. Hoosier Pash day I'm Plum June se Paso Splash the employees I don't know where I ate yesterday, but the food was delicious. June se pa Jamon Jay A male a no hitter It in Dallas years June se paso Jame O J Yeah. Made a no hitter Critical issues. And so Lando Hite drill Don't forget is feminine. So instead of saying the list year, we say the list use. 64. 3 Minute French Lesson 50c: How would you say in French? I don't know where I can find something for Pierre. Jenna. Say Papa. Hoosier Petrovac Ankle shows Pierre una se paso Jupiter baking shows propia I don't know where I am. Jenna Scapa Usui. You shouldn't say passenger sweet. I don't know where he is. June se power. Really? You didn't say pass. Really? I don't know where you are. Move with it. You shouldn't say Plaza was that I don't know where I'm going. Gin sepa Mousavi, you shouldn't say pazzo. Juvie. So one of the sentences that I've had power followed by whom you can liaise the s on the end of path with the start of a new. So agents say Papa Rouget or June se paso juvie. How would you say I don't know where you're going, June Saper. Who easily? Just a passing easily Or how would you say simply? I don't know. June se pa June Scapa. And I'll just point out that it isn't incorrect to say is you know, Sepah, So you can pronounce every single word Juno Sepah. But you'll hear more often, June Saper Also a lot of the time when you're listening to French people speak in the negative, you'll hear them miss out the no altogether. So even in phrases like soon a per. In speaking, you might hear it sepa cibo. And that's because the power makes it clear that it's negative. And so, in speaking, you don't really need the nerve. I would always suggest that you use the now I always use in a. But when you're hearing native French speakers speak, sometimes they miss out the nerve all together. So instead of Sunni Ba, you might hear Ceiba instead, off June Pepe, you might hear you Pepper instead of gin Saper. You might hear you say Papa. So this is just because the power makes it clear that it's negative. So June Sepah, just a pa, they both mean, I don't know. Missing the no off off negative phrases is very informal, and so I don't suggest that you do it yourself, but you might hear French people missing it off 65. 3 Minute French Lesson 50d: So we've seen that is you see can mean I know or I know how June se pa means I don't know or I don't know how. While your next phrase is related to those savvy view savvy boom, it means, Do you know or do you know how seven view? So just like with you, just say origin Saper You can put any verb on the end off survival to say, Do you know how to do something? So how would you say in French? Do you know how to speak English? Savvy Voo parlay only savvy Voo parlay only so savvy evil in this sentence means Do you know how? But it can also just mean Do you know? So how would you say in French? Do you know where the bank is? Savvy Vou will a bunk seven usual among now. You might have got this last translation a little bit wrong. Did you say savvy? Vou LeBlanc? A Well, that literally means Do you know where the bank is? But in French instead they say, Do you know where is the bank savvy vou way LeBlanc So the is goes in front of the place, Savvy vou way. LeBlanc. Do you know where is the bank or another example would be savvy Vou way Lunesta home seven . Venezuela has to home. It means Do you know where the restaurant is? But literally, it means Do you know where is the restaurant? And so I've said this before that you can't really put the word a on the end off a sentence in French. And so instead you change it round, you say? Do you know where is the restaurant savvy? Vou will arrest a home. How would you say in French? Do you know where Pierre is so little? You would say? Do you know where is Pierre? Seven New way Pierre Savvy Vou way Pierre, If you did say savvy Boo hoo pf a again, you would be understood, Andi. Friendship would know what you mean. It just sounds a little bit odd to French years. And so it sounds just as odd to them as it would to us if they said, Do you know where is Pierre? And so you know what they mean? But it sounds a little bit odd. Very French savvy. Vou wait here in English, we say, Do you know where Pierre is? 66. 3 Minute French Lesson 50e: How would you say in French? Do you know where the restaurant is? Savvy. Vou Weight of a song Savvy Venezuela is the home so literally. Do you know where is the restaurant Now? Let's add another phrase. You just sweet Vezelay just three days early. This means I am sorry just three days early. So how would you say in French? I'm sorry, but it's terrible. Just three days early. May say Terry. Just sweet Disraeli. Maisie Terrible. I'm sorry, but I don't know. Did you see this early major in Scapa just three days early. Major Saper, how would you say I'm sorry, but I haven't made a reservation. Just we deserve Lamy. Ginny Palffy in the House of Esteem Just we literally made any profit, you know, Had a question. I'm sorry, but I'm lost just three days away. May just repelled you. Just we That's all a major city pound you Or how do you think you would say? I'm very sorry, but I don't understand you. Can you speak more slowly? Please Just re traded early Major invoke um Pompa Peuple a prolonged conceivably just re traders only major in vocal Pompa Peuple A prudent Mancebo plea. Well, how would you say I'm sorry, but it isn't possible. Just three days early. May sneak Papacy blue just three days early. May sleep a possible 67. 3 Minute French Lesson 50f: So we've seen that just three days really means I'm sorry. Well, let's add another way of saying Sorry. Found on Panhandle the word pound on means Sorry or excuse me. So you can also use it as an alternative to excuse him or you can say a handle. So using this new word, how would you say in French? Sorry, I don't understand you, Pompa, Madam Pompa. Or how would you say sorry after bumping into somebody in French? Pound on hell, No. So, pal Don is a very useful word because you can use it to mean sorry when it is not a serious thing. So if you want to get past somebody who's a pound on instead of excusing more or if you bump into somebody backs didn't you can say pound on? You can also say Just read. There's only in that situation, but more often than not, you'll hear somebody just say you, pal. So in this lesson, we've had just stay, which could mean I know or I know how. So you can put a web on the end on get something like, as you say by the fancy. So you say belief Wednesday means literally. I know how to speak French, but in English, we tend to say I can speak French. So if you want to say I can speak French, you would say Just say Bailly Fonsi rather than usual. Polly Fancy. We had juice a pa Giuseppina, which means I don't know or I don't know how savvy vou savvy boo means. Do you know, or do you know how and again you can put any verb on the end of survival? Seven Buffet RSA means Do you know how to do that? Or several Bali Fancy? You know how to speak French. So, seven, do you know, just three days early? Just three days early Means I'm sorry. And then pound on is another way to say sorry or Excuse me, madam. 68. 3 Minute French Lesson 50g: It's time now to practice what we've learned in this lesson. How do you say in French? I can't speak French. Jim is a back alley. Francie, you shouldn't say properly. Fancy. I'm sorry, but I haven't made a reservation. Just read is only me. Johnny Palffy, you know, is your street this early mission a profit, you know, has a vast Do you know where I can hire a car? Savvy vou? Would you, Pollux, invite you savvy voodoo Tripoli Way on what you do? You know where I can buy a map? Savvy vou crashed savvy Volusia Pashto plan. Sorry, I don't didn't send you found on com. Pompa found on June Vulcan. Pompa I'm sorry, but it's absolutely terrible here. Just three days early. May sit absolute Monta rib Lacey, Just three days early. Makes it absolute monetary policy. I don't know where we hide the car. Genscape unions have only weighed about you. You say passengers have only We laugh at you. Do you know if it's possible for me to pay here? Savage uses a placebo. Casey Savage who sees a possible do pay a c. Do you know what time the breakfast is at the hotel savvy Vujacic Ella Ella Pretty regional hotel Sorry. It was a killer in the Patijn Yellowtail. Sorry. Foundem found on. 69. 3 Minute French Lesson 50h: Now let's have a go at doing some reverse translations. What did these French sentences mean in English? Is your sale affair is your sale affair? I know how to do it. You say pilot for say a only as you say pilot Francaise it. Only I can speak French and English or literally I know how to speak French and English. Just a passenger. V. How do you say in French? I know. Did you see? I don't know. I can speak French. Did you say Polly Francais? Which literally means I know how to speak French. Do you know, savvy view? I'm sorry. Just three days early. Sorry or excuse me. Foundem, can you remember that a few lessons ago I introduced you to the first structure in French. It was a structure that enabled you to ask questions. For example, Cook Valley View Mongie meant, What do you want to eat when you can also use this first structure in a non question former that have a quick recap off the structure as a question. So structure one in the question format consists off just three parts. Cook Valley View, Moon Jae. What do you want to eat? So you've got a question word, an infinitive carrier and an infinitive. And remember that we said we can add the optional fourth part of the extra information so you'll get something like really rumoured. J says Swahr. What do you want to eat tonight? but you've still got the question. Would infinitive carrier an infinitive with the extra information on the end? To use this structure when you're not asking a question is quite simple. You just take the question we're off and flip the infinitive carrier around. You have probably noticed that the infinitive carriers are made up of two parts. You simply flip them around to make them into a non question. Let me show you what I mean. Let's compare a question on a non question in the structure. One format could prove a view. Mongie means what can you eat? Cooked? Prove able, Margie. But if you take off the question word the could and you flip the infinitive carrier around , so prove the rule. Flip it round to vou movie group movie in a question format movie who has a hyphen. But when you flip it around and you put the ball first, the hyping disappear. So full pool game is you can say you can say vou prove a Mongie. You can eat where you could put something on the end. A group of a moon Jae pluta You can eat later. So cooper of evil Margie, what can you eat? A group of a moon moon jae you can eat later 73. 3 Minute French Lesson 51b: so the infinitive carrier prove evil means, can you? And if you flip it around, you get a group movie. Which means you can, for example, a group of a moon Jae, You can eat a group of a rap. Yeah, you can see Pierre a group of AI later. Mom, you can go tomorrow. You can do this with any of the infinitive carriers, except for one. When you flip around the infinitive carrier, please Asia, it changes slightly and you get gyp. Is your paper pre Jha means can I? And Jumper means I can say, for example, Juniper McGee. I can eat. I can see Pierre, you put an edema. I can go tomorrow. Let's look at two lists. One with infinitive carriers as questions and then with the inventor carriers as non questions. So we've got Lesia Meaning Can I of evil? Meaning? Can you Valley view? Meaning? Do you want I leave you? Are you going, Driedger? Do I have to? Or most I on Dr Evil. Do you have to? Almost you. Well, let's now flick them all around. So remember, Please you when you flip it round. Changes slightly. None of the rest of them do. But this 1st 1 becomes jumper. I can. If we change poopy, you get vou Prove a rupo means you can of will evil would become volley ruefully. Meaning you want I leave you means? Are you going on, def? You flip that round, you get rule Ali. Meaning you are going. Do Roger Do I have to? Almost I becomes meaning. I have to. Why most? And then do they rule? Which means do you have to almost you becomes Voo Doo V, which means you have to or you most divvy. Let me give you two more infinitive carries that you can use in the non question Juve Juve means I want Juve and juvie. Juvie means I'm going juvie. So how would you say in French you can buy something here for Pierre Vu Prove a ash take and shows a CPA appear a group of a hashtag Yakusho disappear 74. 3 Minute French Lesson 51c: So how would you say in French you can buy it later, Rupel. You can eat here. Rupo V is the infinitive carrier. More G is the infinitive on then E c is some extra information. 78. 3 Minute French Lesson 52a: let's start this lesson with a quick recap off the words on phrases that we learned in the last lesson. How do you say in French? I can You can A group of e You want Veuve Willie, You're going. Usually I have to You have to voodoo they now We've already had this next word s A G s A. It means to try Essie. We've seen that it can be used with food and drink to say what you'd like to try. However, what if you want to say I want to try to speak French? Well, when you want to say to try to do something there's a little word that has to be used with S A and that's do it doesn't mean anything in this situation, but it allows you to put a verb on the end off s A so that it almost becomes an infinitive carrier. So s a a do means to try to have a look at these examples. Juve A s a du Palais. Fancy Juve's saying the palate, Francie, It means I'm going to try to speak French. So you put the door after s a G. So that you can put a verb after that. So s a a dirt to try to. And then you can put the verb Palais, which means to speak s a a the Bali fancy to try to speak French or C the to marry Jaguar s a a the taubate. I have to try to find Marie So again, after the verb s a we say do so that we can then use the very 12 a s a a 12 a to try to find. So just to reiterate s a do means to try to How would you say in French? I have to try to speak French. Jaguar Say the poly Francie Jean, do as I say the Palais fancy. Are you going to try to speak French? Olivo is the the poly Francie, leave us a du Palais Francais. And so after s a If you want to put another verb to say that you're trying to do something , then you just have to remember to use the little word do essay due to try to 79. 3 Minute French Lesson 52b: How would you say in French? I want to try to call Marie Juve s a happily marry Juve s au Napoli Mafi. So here the would do shortens two d apostrophe. And that's because it's in front, off a vowel. So whenever you have the word dirt in front of a vowel or where that starts with the letter page, then do shortens two D apostrophe. How would you say in French you must try to be here tomorrow. Voodoo, They esugei that crazy demand. Who do you say that? And so again here the dirt shortens two D apostrophe because the verb ETA starts with a vow . How would you say I'm going to try to be here tomorrow? J s a a debt cinema. Jesus A that you see the man. What are you going to try to do? Malibu estate affair? Leave us a fair in the past tense. You can change the verb s A to this J s A And so because s a ends in an e. R. We removed the er aan de replace it with an e with an accent. And so we get s a g and then we use the auxiliary verb. J J s a means I have tried or I tried. And again if report a dirt on the end, we get J s a do which means I have tried to or I tried to. So how would you say in French? I have tried to speak French. J s a pal. Infancy J s A Du Palais Fancy. 80. 3 Minute French Lesson 52c: How would you say in French? I tried to call Marie J s a happily married J s A that prima He So the dirt shortens two d apostrophe in front of the word happily because it starts with a vowel. How would you say I tried the cheese on? Don't forget you only put the dough if you want to put a verb after it. And so in this sentence I tried the cheese while cheese isn't a verb, so you don't need the word Duh J A s a tale of home are j s a lift. And so you only put the dough when you're saying that you tried to do something in this sentence, you just tried the cheese g s a hell of homage. How would you ask? Have you tried the wine? Do they say you live on? I have a bruise s a move on Or how would you say I have tried to speak French, but it's too difficult. On the word for difficult in French is Difficile Diffie seal spelled d i f f I see. I l e difficile J s a du Palais francais may say ta difficile J s a the palate forms. Say may say, Ta difficile. I tried the wine gsc and move on J s a liver. I try to find it. J s a Dolittle J s a Dolittle. You might be wondering here why the dough on the lure haven't contracted to form. Do well, duh handler only contract. When the means the in descendants, the word low stands for it. And so when look means it, you don't contract. When low means the that's when does and low become do so in this sentence, you just say J s a lulu to be. 81. 3 Minute French Lesson 52d: How would you say in French? I tried to make a reservation booked. The restaurant is too busy. J s a the fair. You know, Address soon made of s a home, A top Ochopee J A C A D fl You know how the vessel Miller s a home? A top of group B. So we've had in this lesson so far, the verb s a which means to try if you put the word do after s A s a do means to try to And you can put a verb on the end to say that you're trying to do something. And then we had the past tense of the verb s A a J s A. Which means I tried. And again you can put a dirt on the end of this J s A a do means I tried to, and then you can put a vivid after that. So J s a gay means I tried or I have tried where we can put a little bit extra in there and we get Julie s A Julie s A. It means I have tried it. Julie s a So how would you say in French. Yes, I have tried it. Three. Juliet, we Julie s a on weaken. Take Julie s A and make it negative. And we get Juna Lay possess e Jenna and again the azure and the new you'll hear pronounced June So this phrase will sound bit more like Julie possess E And it means I haven't tried it Generally possess a So how would you say No? I haven't tried it. No, si, no. Julie C Now, remember how you comport low in front of a verb to mean it? For example, Julia Compon means I understand it. Or Javert affair. I want to do it off, Liviu, which means do you want to eat it? Well, if you're talking in the past, you always put the low in front of the auxiliary verb. So Julie Fe, for example, means I have done it. So the auxiliary verb is the A. Which means have Julie Fay. Julie Monsey. Julie Mongie means I have eaten it. Love, Eva Mongie means have you eaten it? And so the auxiliary verb in this is a V So lovey vou Mongie El la p a l Lappi Yea means she paid it so whenever you have the past tense and you want to say it. You put the word lor in front of the auxiliary verb on because the auxiliary verb always starts with the letter A in French. Then the word le will shorten to l apostrophe. And that's what we have. Julie Foucher, Julie Mong La Mongie. So how would you say in French? I ate it. Did you lay? Margie, Julie Mongie? 82. 3 Minute French Lesson 52e: How would you say in French? I have eaten it. Julie s a Julie s a How would you say I didn't eat it? Andi, The same rule applies even in the negative. The word for it, which is look, goes straight in front of the auxiliary verb, which in this sentence would be a Pamela generally. So normally you have June epa, which means I didn't or I haven't. And if you want to put the word it in there, that it has to go in front off the a part. So rather than saying Jeunet Pa, you say Jenna Labor Jenna Leper Mongie. I didn't eat it on the jury. And the ner sound like June gin Leper Mongie. So it's quite tricky to hear the look when it's spoken quickly. June lay palm, Andrzej. But the look goes straight in front of the auxiliary verb. Always. So how would you say in French? I haven't eaten it. Who's in late? Have you eaten it? Love? Even Mongie love even more. He didn't eat it in Alabama. Gee, in a pop machine. So he'll Napa is normally he didn't or he hasn't. And you put the word look in front of the which is the over reverb une la bar. And so just like when we said jute and new in speaking sound a lot like June while the same thing happens with eel and know Rather than saying eel new laptop Moon jae you'll hear French people liaise them together slightly and it'll sound like in Lapa McGee, he didn't eat it. How would you say they ate it alone? Muji ILO managing So the on is the octu reverb in this sentence on the word look goes in front of that deal Long Mongie It might be tricky at first toe. Figure out where the look goes because you're trying to think what's the ordinary lib? But eventually with time it will get faster. And so what you could do is take the word it out of a sentence in English on Think first. How do you say they ate while they ate? Is een own Mongie? And then you've got to try and slip the word low in front of the auxiliary verb. So he'll long Mongie, you know Margie 83. 3 Minute French Lesson 52f: How would you say in French we didn't eat it? Noon 11 Pop Muji Noona, Labonte, Muji. And so to try and break this down, we can say firstly Well, how do we say we ate? Which is news? Irvan. Mongie. Then we have to make it negative. New Navin Pop McGee. And then we have to put the word it in there somewhere while it goes straight in front of the auxiliary verb, which in this sentence is album Noon. 11. Pop Muji, Nu 11 Pat McGee. We didn't eat it now in French. When you put the low in front of a verb, it can either mean it as we've already seen. But it can also mean him, for example, Julie Vu, Julie do this can mean I have seen eight. Or it could mean I have seen him. Another example is Jaguar V. Joe Douala. To me, this can mean either I have to find eight. Oh, I have to find him. The situation will tell you whether it means it or him. But occasionally in French, it can get a little bit tricky trying to figure out whether they mean it or him. If you want to say her then simply port la in front of the verb instead of love. So you've a la voie. This means I'm going to see her juvie. La voie. Another example is Juve Lavoie Did you ever watch? Which means I want to see her. And so if you put Lor in front of a verb than it means it or him. And if you put laugh in front of a verb, then it means her now. One little thing to remember is that when you're talking in the past tense and you use the word for her Orla, then you have to add an E to the end of the past participle. This is because the low onda la both just become l apostrophe in front of the auxiliary verb. So it helps to tell whether you're talking about him or her. For example, the sentence Julie View, Did you leave? You can mean either I have seen him or I have seen her because the L is short for even lower or LA, and we can't tell. So in writing to make it clear as to whether you're speaking about him or her, you can add an e to the end of the past participle if you're talking about her. And so Julie Vu with No e can only mean I have seen him. But then Julie Vu with an E on the end can only mean I have seen her. In speaking. They sound the same. And so in spoken French, it's harder to tell. Brought in written French. If you see an E on the end of the past participle Andi an l apostrophe in front of the auxiliary verb, then the L apostrophe has to send for her. So did you leave you? I have seen him, Julie View with an E on the end. I have seen her. Another example would be lovey vou to V Love, even to pay if there's no extra E than it means. Have you found him more? Have you found eight And Love Evo Movie with an extra E on the end can only mean Have you found her? So Levy routes away Lovey vote movie. In spoken French, you can tell the difference, but in Richmond, French, if there's an extra E, then it means her now. This is only when you have a past participle If you're not speaking about the past tense, then it just stays the same. So Julia Compon means I understand him. And Julia Kompong means I understand her. And that's because there's no uncertainty in these two sentences as to which one means him on which one means her. Because the look and the lab are in their complete form. There's no contraction to l apostrophe. So Julia Kompong, I understand him. Gela, Kompong. I understand her on the verb compound doesn't have to change its only when you're speaking about the past tense that you have to add the extra E to the end if you're speaking about her. 84. 3 Minute French Lesson 52g: How would you say in French? I saw him yesterday. Did you leave you here? Did you leave you? Yeah, I saw her yesterday. Usually view. Yeah, Julie view here. But you have to put an extra e on the end off. Do so, Julie. View year with an E means I saw her yesterday. How would you say I found him here? Julie To a pc. Julie to see? I found her here July 2. May see Jele to obey EEC with an extra e on the movie on the passport. Izabal, How would you say I understand him? Julia Camp home. Did you Look, Come home. I understand. For is your home is your company. How would you say I'm going to see him? Juve Lavoie. Juvie, Lavoie. Where I'm going to see her Juve a lot Juvie. Lava. So in this lesson, we've had s a t, which means to try. I say, hey, do means to try to and then to try to do something. J s a Adir means I tried to Julie s a means I tried eight Generally possess a means. I haven't tried it or I didn't try it. Live y means to see him and lap voir means to see her on. Then in the past, if you said Julie View, it means I saw him. And if you say Julie View and put an E on the end off the view, then it means I saw her. 85. 3 Minute French Lesson 52h: It's time now to practice what we've learned in this lesson. How do you say in French? Are you going to try to make a reservation? Liviu, Essay the fair. You know, I'll leave you to say you the fare. You know how the vast I have to try to find the passports you do are associated to Bailey passport. They say the two really passport. I tried it, but it wasn't very good. Julie s a Mason. It'd patrimony. Julie s a Mason. It'd patrimony. I didn't try it. Julie possess e generally possess e. I tried to call Marie yesterday. G s a G Beverly Marty. Yeah. G s a doctor. Leymarie year. When are you going to see it? Can't believe we live while conta leave Lavoie. I saw her yesterday in Paris. Did you leave you? Yeah. A party, Julie View year. A puffing. Did you try the cheese? Every view, Estela. Former. I have a bruise is a game of homage. I've done it now. Julie. Fee mental, usually fee mental. They didn't buy it. You know, lump a dusty una loompa stay 86. 3 Minute French Lesson 52i: Now let's have a go at doing some reverse translations. What do these French sentences mean in English? Juve. Lavoie, Juve. Lavoie. I want to see it or not. I mean, I want to see him. Julia camp is your home. I understand her. JPL Dumas. Watch your here. May Gillette. Who? JPL Dumas watcher here Major late. Who? They? I lost my car yesterday, but I found it today. And in this sentence in English, The It refers to my car, which in French is a feminine known mav. Watch so in French, instead of calling it it, you have to say her. And so the centers in French would be. I lost my car yesterday, but I found her today. And that's why there's an extra e on the end of the movie because the L apostrophe stands for LA So it's the feminine version of it. So jpl Duma Pachulia major late Baojun, What does this mean? You look upon you Look at home. I understand him. Oh, I understand it news of, say, a common Delavan a francais may set a ta difficile news avanza say get the common galavan often say makes it a top difficile. Julie possess e to see him live wire, which can also mean to see it to see her. LeVoir. I saw him. Did you leave you? I saw her. Did you leave you with an E on the end? So don't forget when you want to say her in the past tense, you place the look in front of the auxiliary verb. But you also have to put an E on the end off past participle. That's why it's usually a view with an E on that so that you can tell that the low sends for her and not him. Here's your first phrase for this lesson. Gin prove EPA gene pool. It means I couldn't. Andi. It's an infinitive carrier, which means that you can put any infinitive on the end of it. So, Jenna, prove a pigeon poop. How would you say I couldn't do it gene pool people affair is, you know, poor people affair. I couldn't find him jump over a power to be Jean Petipa. Julie Lewin, Watcher makes it a Tasha Juve. Layaway in Watcher may sedate or share. I wanted to buy something for Pierre, but I couldn't find the souvenir shop. Julie Ashtray Keiko shows propia mission Prove a pattern of a limb. Alexander, suit me Juve Laser Stakic assures propia mission Poopy Patra Vellum Alexander Souvenir 91. 3 Minute French Lesson 53c: we've had city, which means it. Waas What? This phrase is very similar Jetty J k. It means I waas jet. So just be aware that sit day was spelt c apostrophe e t a i t whereas jetty is spelled j apostrophe e t a i s so it's got a s on the end. So how would you say in French? I was very busy. Just they pray Ochopee jet a hizo could be I was here yesterday. Just a sec. Yeah, Jay Jay Z CEO. I was at the beach Jetty Al. Applies is it is Elop Lodge. I couldn't go to the beach because I was too tired. June Pippa Layla plays basket Now you might have noticed that whenever we talk in the negative in French there are always two words nearby. No Andi path. If you want to make any verb negative, you just put another in front of it on a par after it The no felt any becomes an apostrophe if it's placed in front of a vowel or h. So Julie means I wanted juror No vallee pa means I didn't want And usually when you have azure on dinner together in speaking, it sounds more like June rather than Gentner. So Juna, full EPA, you'll hear pronounced Joinville EPA SO juvenile A. I wanted general EPA I didn't want. Similarly Jet A means I waas and Junior Deepa means I wasn't junior Deepa. EPA means I didn't want. 92. 3 Minute French Lesson 53d: We've just learned these two phrases. Which means I wasn't on June vapor, Meaning I didn't want. So how would you say in French? I didn't want to go. Generally Pozzuoli generally puzzle. I wasn't here yesterday, Jeanette. A posy, See? Yeah. Geneti possessed a year. I didn't want to eat a hotel because the food was terrible. General Hammond! Yellowtail Bhaskar Generally Pramoj! Bhaskar! I wasn't in front yesterday. I was here in England. And for this sentence you might need the word for England, which is on bullet There on Blip. They're spelt a n g l e angle and then t e r e on glee. There, genetic pattern frontier. Just a sec on over there. Genetic pattern. Francia there. I didn't want to speak to Marie because I was very busy. Generally, Pepe Polyamory past cogitate generally Pepe Polyamory past Project A trade off. I wasn't tired, but I was very busy. Genetic poverty may try Geneti poverty. A major 93. 3 Minute French Lesson 53e: How would you say in French? I didn't want to take the train, but I was in a hurry. Generally, Papon. Major day Pressey generally Papandreou little midget A prissy. Here's your next word That also happens to end in the letters A I s just like Jet day. Andi Julie did this word Javy Javy means I hade Javy. I would think you'd say I had it. You lovey is your lovey. So the it goes in front off the verb which is a V on that j apostrophe becomes Sure so is your lovey. I had it. How would you say I had it with me? Julia V. Vic Moore You'll a visa make more So in this lesson so far we've had June prove epa. Which means I couldn't Julie. Meaning I wanted June. Which means I didn't want jet I waas June 8 kpa I wasn't And then we've just had Javy, which means I had So how would you say in French? I had everything at my house, Javaid to shame Wa you have a to shame. Wow! How would you say I had a lot of time? Jave a have a I had a lot of time to see my friends and family. And don't forget that after you say time if you want say time to do something then you have to use a little word. Do Jave A Bhutan devoir made a me for me Jabo, Kutan devoir me, Me, me So after you, Stone Then you have to use the word does if you want to use a verb So don't devoir time to see Miss Ami Hema for me. 94. 3 Minute French Lesson 53f: remember that To make things negative, you put a no in front of the verb on DPA after it. So how would you say this in French? I didn't have it. So the nerve goes in front off the eight, so Sure. No love eight. I didn't have the time. Did you have a part litem? You know, every pallet on we've had a lot of words that end in a I s in this lesson. So let's just have another quick recap to familiarize ourselves with them. June pyo v epa was I couldn't Jovel a I wanted June. I didn't want jet A I waas is unique paper. I wasn't Javy I had And Gina Vapor I didn't have. So how would you say in French? I didn't have everything with me yesterday. Genevieve Patio Direct my year. Genevieve to take my year. I'm sorry, but I was in a hurry. Andi, I didn't have the time to speak with you Just three days early. May get a prissy Asian Abby pallets on the pallet. Eric, she's sweet. There's only major tape I say is you have a pallet on the paralytic room. How would you say I didn't have the key for my room. Did you have a pilot clip on my show? You know people A clip on my show. I didn't have the hotel's address. Genevieve, Pilot rest Hotel Genevieve addressed a hotel. 95. 3 Minute French Lesson 53g: This next phrase is made up of words we already know. Do a lot do a lot? It means some money or any money. Do a lot. I know I've mentioned how to say some or any in French before, but I just wanted to recap it quickly. He never hurts. If you want to say some in French, as in, I would like some wine Or can I try some cheese? Or if you want to say any, as in, Do you have any cheese? It's really quite simple. We have to do is use the word duh plus the wait for the Remember that dirt plus low, which is the masculine word for the makes do on that dirt plus lay, which is the plural word for the makes day. So here are three examples Job would pay due homage, Jude, I do homage means I would like some cheese. Appreciate essay. Duvan, please use a duvan. May I try some wine, please? Yes. A dual Adande, please. Yes, a deal. Adande, may I try some Tiki? So that's where the phrase do Lower John comes from. Lajong means the money. So do lounge on means some money Oh, any money? So how would you ask him? French? Do you have any money? Aviva? Delage have a Buddha large on. I would like some money. You would find a large room. Jeff, what do I do? Do you want some money? Valley View, Delage? I believe you do. How would you say in French? I'm sorry, but my card isn't working. Do you have any money? Andi, I just let you know that the phrase four doesn't work. Andi isn't working. Are the same in French. New Mashburn is your sweet. There's only me, Mac. After New Mashaba have a voodoo larger just we literally may mccaf No Mashburn! Aviva Delage. So new Mashaba can mean doesn't work or isn't working. My car doesn't work on my card. Isn't working. Are the same in French MCAT? No Mashburn 96. 3 Minute French Lesson 53h: How would you say in French? I have some money with me. J. J. Well, what would be the two ways to say? Can I bring someone with me? You could either say Please. Europe off state allows on the big more or is you about what they do at the moment. So don't forget that you can either say please Asia, for can I or you'll often hear people say just super, which actually means I can. But if you raise your voice at the end, then you can use it as a question. It's a bit more informal, but they do use it in French. So please, apathy or job apathy. How would you say Pia has the money Pierre at the larger Pierre? Other larger. Now, remember how we've spoken about putting Pat do in front of phrases to me? Not any. Well, this next phrase, Pat Dowell, John paddles Young means not any money. I've put the not in brackets because sometimes in English, we don't use the word. Not even though we're referring to something negative. Let's have a look at that in a bit more detail, so there's a tiny peculiarity with the English word any. It can have two slightly different meanings. Have a look at these two sentences. Do you want any wine? Andi, I don't have any wine. On first glance, there's nothing strange about the sentences, but in reality, the first sentence assumes there is one available on the second sentence. Points out that there is no one available, so we can say the first sentence is positive on the second sentence is negative. Really. Any sentence that contains the word not in English can be considered negative in French. If you want to say any in a positive sentence, then you say do or doula or day as we've been learning. But if you want to say any in a negative sentence, you say Pat do and you don't have to say the word for the So let's translate the two sentences. Do you have any wine? Well, the any in this sentence is positives. There, in French, we use do Voo doo van. I believe you do them the second sentence. I don't have any wine. While this any is not any, I have not any wine, so it's a negative. So we just use Pat do John a pat Duvan John a. Pat Duvan. In speaking, you often hear people pronounced Pat do as pad gin, a pad van gin, a pad van. I don't have any wine. Another way to look at this is to understand that you can replace any with some in a positive sentence. But you can't in a negative sentence, for example, both off the sentences mean the same thing. Do you want any wine? Do you want some wine? That means it's a positive sentence. However, if you look at these two sentences, I don't have any wine. I don't have some wine. Only the first is correct. It's not grammatically correct to say I don't have some wine in English, so this is a negative sentence. So the general rule of thumb is that if you can say it's some instead of any in English, then it's a positive sentence, and you should say, Do doula or day in French. So do Dylan, and day means some or any when you're speaking about positive sentences. If the word some can't be used to replace any in the English sentence, then it's a negative sentence, and you should say Pat, do in French, so Pedro means not any, and you use it in negative sentences. But really, if you just look out in the sentence, if there's any form of not in the English sentence than its negative, so just use Pat do for the word any. 97. 3 Minute French Lesson 53i: We've just said that you use do doula or day to mean some or any. If the sentence is a positive sentence and you use Pat due to mean not any if it's a negative sentence. So how would you say in French? I don't have any money. And this sentence contains the word don't. So it must be a negative sentence in a pat down gin. A paddle. How would you say, Do you have any money? Andi, if you think about the sentence, you can replace the word any with some and it's don't make sense. Do you have any money? Do you have some money? So it must be a positive sentence. Have a view. Have a vote. I didn't have any money with me. You know, the paddock more, Genevieve pad Amazon to make more. And so this is a negative sentence because of the word Didn't. But you can also double check on. Think Well, Can you fit the word? Some in there? I didn't have some money with me. And so it doesn't make sense. And so I didn't have any money. Pat. Val. John, for not any money. How would you say in French. Do you want any coffee cafe? I believe you do cafe. And so this is a positive sentence. But you can also just check. Does the word some fit instead of any? Do you want any coffee? Do you want some coffee? And so that works. So you can say in French Valuable do Calfee. I don't have any coffee. Gin, a pad, Calfee, John a Pat McAfee. And so this is a negative sentence because you can see the word don't is there. But you can also do struggle. Check that you can't fit the word Some in there. I don't have any coffee. I don't have some coffee. It doesn't make sense. So Ginny Batten do coffee on. Don't forget that you'll hear French people Instead of saying John a Pat do caffee. They'll pronounce Patton do as one word journey pad coffee, Johnny pad coffee 98. 3 Minute French Lesson 53j: How would you say in French? I haven't eaten any chocolate today. And so this is a negative sentence because the word haven't means have not. But you can also check that the words some doesn't fit. So I haven't eaten any chocolate today. I haven't eaten some chocolate today. It doesn't fit. So you can't use do doula or day. You have to use Pat. Do so Pap more. Jay do John a Pat Moon Jae. How would you ask? Did Pierre eat any chocolate? Pierre Pierre J. Chocola. And so this is a positive sentence. There's no word not in there at all. But you can also check. Does the word some fit? Is it of any? Did Pierre eat any chocolate? Did Pierre eat some chocolate? Well, they both work so in French. You use the word dude Pierre Attila Mong. So if you can use the word some, that is a positive sentence, which means you have to use do doula or day for some or any. But if you can't fit the word some on you can only say any, then it's negative. And then you have to use the phrase pap do for any Now there's one more tiny little thing that I must point out. It's hardly worth mentioning, and I wasn't going to bother saying anything at all until later in the course. However, I then thought, If I get out the way with now, then you can start to get used to it. There is one more situation in which you would use do instead of a day when you use plural . Announce normally, when you want to say some in French in the plural you use day, for example. J take a hot I have some carrots. Valley View Question. Do you want some questions? Even a state believer? He's going to buy some books. News of all Move J. We ate with some friends, and so the word some in all of these sentences is day because it's plural in the negative. Just as we've been practicing, you use do instead or more specifically, patent Do So. For example, John, a pat look out means I don't have any carrots in the paddock. Wesam. There are no questions. Inv apa stay. Believe he isn't going to buy any books, and so we use Pachter in all of these because they're negative sentences now. I did say there is one more situation where you use do instead of day. If you put an adjective in front off a plural noun, then the word for some is do no matter what. Let me take some of the sentences. We've just been looking at Andi port adjectives in front of denounce so you can see what I'm jabbering on about Jay Do Petite Kat. This means I have some small carrots, so the adjective small in French petite goes in front off the noun. So then we use the word dough for some Jada Petite take out. So if you put an adjective in front of a plural noun, you have to use the word dough for some. Here's another sentence. Eva, stay the nouveau. Leave her, Ylva, stay the nouveau. Leave her. He's going to buy some new books. So we've got an adjective in front off a plural noun, which means the word for some is the so nouveau means new ever Ash day de nouveaux leva. So you don't say day New believer. You have to use Deneuve a lever. Another sentence news. Irvan. Moon jae affected the bone on me. News of Oman J a vector bosomy we ate with some good friends. So we've got the adjective good in front of a plural noun which means the word for some is due Now this only happens when you put the adjective in front of the Now if the adjective goes after the pronoun, then you can still use day for some. Now I can hear that you're shouting at me and saying that we learned a very long time ago that adjectives come after the noun in French. And yes, it's true. Usually adjectives come after the noun in French, however toe emphasize an adjective. You can place the adjective in front of the now if the adjective is placed in front of the now you use dirt for some. If the adjective is placed after the noun, you use day for some area. The question Derris Ula Ilia The question Dellis ula That means there are some delicious questions there. Delia did that issue Question HLA delia, Do they see a question? There are some delicious questions there. These two sentences are almost identical, except for where the addict in goes on, Whether you use day or do the second sentence emphasizes the word did issue a bit more. Yeah, the question daily. Stewart Delia, Do they see a question Now? If you get this day versus dirt thing wrong, don't worry. It hardly matters at all. I just thought I'd mention it now on. We'll look at it again in more detail in a later course, but just so that you're aware that if you see do being used for some on it's not a negative sentence. But the adjective is in front of the noun. Then at least you can know now that it's correct. So if you have a plural noun, the word for storm is day. Unless there's an adjective in front of the noun, in which case the word for some is done. But like I said, if you forget about this, don't worry, it won't make a difference. If you make a mistake, you'll still be understood 99. 3 Minute French Lesson 53k: How would you ask in French. Did you see any good films in Paris at U Dub on FEMA Party at you View the bond film a party. And so the word good here goes in front of the word film and it's a plural now, So we put do as the word for any you could also use instead of attitude. Have a room. So every move you or at you view depending on whether you're being informal or formal. How would you ask? Didn't you see any good films in Paris? Not you. View the bond FEMA path e Not your purview in Amman FEMA Parry There were some good restaurants here. Area de Vos The Holy See Media DeBonis a sissy I have seen some beautiful things in fronts J view the Bell shows on France J view the bell shows on France And so here the word beautiful is in front of a feminine, plural noun. So normally beautiful is bull. But the feminine is bell on. You put an s on the end because it's plural and because it's in front of the noun. Then you use the word Do the beautiful is a word that can go in front or after the now in French. And so if you place it after the noun, then the word for storm is day. So you would say instead, J view, they shows Bell conference. How would you ask, Have they eaten any French food until more J. Villanova too often says until more J. Dilla, Nokia telephone says. And so here is a positive sentence so we can use doula for any Delano hit you. So it's a feminine word is no Hegel, and that's why we use doula. If you make it negative, How would you say this? Haven't they eaten any French food? No, Until Pramoj do know it, your phone says no until Tom Mongiardino hit you often says. And so because its a negative sentence now the word for any is just do or patent. Do so pap more G do no until Pamela J. You know it. Your phone says 100. 3 Minute French Lesson 53l: How would you ask in French. Do we have any money? I don't know. Have a new garage. Don't we have any money, Nevil? New paddles. I never knew paddles. I had Gina Vapor means I didn't have do lasagne means some or any money when it's in a positive sentence, Panda John means not any money when it's in a negative sentence in any positive sentences, the word for any is due doula or day, which are also the same words as the word for some in any negative sentences.
