Where are my time poor creatives at? Isn't it always the way? So many other demands on our time right?

When we do get time to sit down and create it's rushed and just a few minutes grabbed here and there. It's not easy to find the time is it? And when you do we waste time sitting down to find the supplies we waste time trying to get our ideas going. Before we know it, we're out of time!

But there is another way! In this class I'll help you to create a tool box of your most used and versatile art supplies, quickly grab paint colors that co ordinate and set the timer for just twenty minutes, we've got an art journal page to create!


I'm sharing all my tips and ideas to make the most out of your creative time that is so precious. Setting a timer doesn't mean putting yourself under pressure when you have everything ready at your fingertips ready to go!

Most days you can find me covered in paint and trying to keep the cat from knocking over my dirty paint water. I'm a full time artist and Mummy and I love nothing more than creating with my young daughter by my side.

I am mostly known for my dramatic victorians and of course my found poems.

When it comes to my artwork if it doesn't have a found poem on it, it didn't happen. If you're going to come create with me be sure to bring along your fluorescent colors and gelli plates too.

1. Welcome to 20 Minute Art Journaling!: Hi there. My name is Karen, and I'm a mixed media artist and art journal. Er on. I want to welcome you to my class. 20 minute art journaling. The reason for creating this class came about by my own need to create, but not having a lot of time being Mom being life working as well. I found that I had very short pockets of time and I needed to make the most of them in class. I'll show you how to create a toolbox of materials that you'll go back to again and again. The modern want your sitting time to create to save yourself time. Well, look, I have to select images on products for you to use in your journal pages ahead of time so that you're not sitting there wondering what on earth he going to make. And I'll show you all my hints and tips for creating quick and easy art journal backgrounds so that when you sit down to create, you make the most of the 20 minutes that you have. I can't wait to share all of these things and more with you inside the classroom. So I look forward to seeing you there 2. Creating your art tool box: I want to give you guys an example off some of the things that are in my tool box when I comes to working in my 20 minute art journal spreads so you guys can substitute what you have to hand for your tool kit. You may want to change up a couple of things, but the idea of the toolkit is that thes are the workhorses. These are the things that stay the same that you use the most whenever you sit down to do your quick heart journaling like we're doing in class. So the first thing that I have no definite would recommend is Jess. Oh, so you can use whichever brand you like for your dress. So this is a Windsor and Newton Jessa that I really like to use. 100. You can see it's in quite a large one liter top. So it was on special, and I bought it on D. I really love to use it. Jessen for me is one of the essentials. No, only does it prepare my page, but it also substitutes a white paint a lot of the time for me, and it can really give you some lovely unifying effects in your backgrounds, and you'll see me using it in later lessons when we're looking at our backgrounds, but definitely would recommend the Jess Oh, for you guys and say it really saves you having to have more supplies because you can use this just like you would use a white paint as well. So when it comes to the pains, these are the two kind of colors that I would like to stick to. So I will substitute either one of thes depending on how I'm feeling on the day. My most favorite one is this one here. This is the winds over Newton on its the Paynes grey paint. I love to use this. Payne's gray color is just such a beautiful dark. It's almost black, but it's not quite black on. I love to use. This color is just such a lovely shade of blue, and it just gives you a really I think a nice an alternative to back that could be a really harsh color. So I don't like to include black pain in my toolbox. If you really like black, or perhaps you don't have any of this to hand you can absolutely substitute black, but I would really recommend trying to pick a dark color that is no black. So even a dark purple or really dark indigo would work really well for that. So pains graze one of my favorites on. Then I have this other. This is just a craft acrylic on it is a night blue. So any shade that's kind of similar to this one or two. The pains great will work really well for your dark corner in your toolbox. So these go really well with everything on. They work well with all the different colors, and it obviously works really well with the Jessel because that's going to be our kind of white shade. The other two things I really like to work with at the moment are these watercolor markers thes air, also by Windsor and Newton. It's the brand that we can get really easily over here in Ireland, so I know that these guys Ahron International one. But you may have a similar brand of watercolor marker that you can get a hold of locally where you are, but these are the two that I really enjoy using. You'll see me make lots of marks with ease because there are watercolor marker, you could dissolve all of the marks and you can blend them in, and you can really create some gorgeous textures in your page. So the two that I really like working with again are Payne's gray. So I love thes watercolor markets because they have to ends. They have a really find him, and they have a brush. Tempus. Well, so you guys consider the brush tip There is really nice on the smaller one is really quite fine. There we go. That's really nice to work with. Two. So these attitude I really like to work with this one here is Payne's gray on this one Here is a fairly new one for me on this one is called Move. So ever you like to work with this one as well. So if you have, like, a water soluble marker will work just as well for this. So these are the two that I switch out, depending on how I'm feeling. Sometimes if I use a lot of the Paynes grey in my spreads, I'll go with move or if I've not got an awful lot of dark. I'll go with the pains. Great. So these are just the to to have to hand. So next I have my liquor tax paint marker. This is in titanium white. So this is one of my favorite ones, and I use this near enough in every journal spread or every mixed media piece that I work in. So this is a really an essential tool for me. I just love to work with them. You consent to shoot any white marker that you like to work with as well is really honey to have a white marker to hand, especially when you're working, creating marks in the grand or highlighting areas, or if you want to add in some lettering or anything, I really love to work with these. So your favorite paint marker is definitely a really good choice on a white one, I think just works better than, say, a black one again because it's not so dark on also, it just I think the white just really goes with everything, and it can give the page a real pop. So the other tool that I have here is my mechanical pencil. So I use this to do a lot of kind of scribbled writing on the pages. I highlight different things. So it's just a really cheapo Martin mechanical pencils. Nothing special. A pencil will do you, Justus. Well, I just prefer the mechanical particle because it has the really fine tip. You don't have to worry about sharpening it or anything like that. So this is Ah, nor 0.7 millimeter. Um, you can use whatever one you have 200. There's nothing special about this. So this is something that I really love to work with to create kind of scribbled writing everything in my journal spreads. And then the other thing that I like to have toe hand is my You nibble signal broad. The this parent is one off my all time favorite white pens apart from the liquid text marker. But this is a fine tips, so it gives you a very different effect. So again, you can use this to kind of scribble around things. Highlight things at in scribbled words if you want to. This is one of my all time favorites, So the idea is that you will create yourself a little pouch or a little area where you will keep all of the's things on. These are the things that you go for all the time when you're working in your journals for your 20 minutes. So you don't have to think. You don't have to worry. You don't have to go or where is this thing? Well, where is that? These are what you have from this. We will build on with our three colors on our hero product. But these air your essential tool kits. So no matter what you're doing, you reach for these things all the time and these things stay the same. So once you have the ones that you like, keep them the same, you could substitute out. We say you know this market for another marker, or if you find that you don't own with this particular white marker, you can change it for another one, Of course. But the idea is that instead of thinking about it, you just reach for these on. You can get started on your journal pages straight away. So the next lesson ever going to be looking at what kind off colors we can pick on, how we can pick those 3. Choosing a hero Art Item: Okay, So when it comes to cheesing Ah, hero image four are spread. We want to be looking for something that we have been hoarding or we've been really wanting to use, or it's a brand new product and we really want to play with it. Something that's going to get us excited about this journal spread on is going to give us either a focal point or it's just something to kind of bounce off. So for me, these are a few things that I have purchased recently, which would make really great hero products. So I have got these What kind of disease or from prima on? This is the decadent pie set, and it's just a really gorgeous color set. So this would definitely be a great supply toe. Have a my journal spread on to really play with them work with. So this would be a great in product to use for your hero image for you here, a problem so I have got here is well, these distress carry ons I bought recently. So, you know, making a page or journal spread with using these in it would be really great says be really fun who want to use their water soluble as well, so you can create all sorts of different things with ease. So this will be a really fun choice as well. These are some metallic gold flakes that I bought recently. So again, this would be a really great one to choose because it would give your page three great prop . So perhaps you've picked up something like this similar that you've been kind of hoarding and haven't tried yet. This would be a really great time to pull it out, because we're only going to be using it for one spread at the moment. And it's just really to get you going. This one here is another color. Eso That's okay. Your your hero product could be a color or paint as well that you've been really wanted to use. This is some acrylic ink from down around the and it's in this gorgeous fluorescent pink. So I've had this for a little while, and I haven't really used it much, so this would be a great think toe. Add into your toolbox when you're using your things on. It would be a really great focal point for your pages for us, and pink is gorgeous. So then you could also look at things like stamps, so it doesn't have to be a stampede purchase. Recently, this one was a gift to me on If you follow me a tall on social media, you'll see that I absolutely adore skulls and all things like that. So this is a really great pick from my friend for me, so you can absolutely pick a stamp. And I have done that several times. I was my hero product for my page. So if you've got a stamp they have used here or one that you just really love, you can add that into your toolbox for your journal page that you go to create. Then you can also pick things like images. So I have a couple of things here. I have some vintage pictures here. I have these Victorian slaps these air re gorgeous to work with. So they come old protected on you. Just take them out and you could at what you would like. So these air really beautiful to work with. Today's making really good. Interesting focal point for your pennies. Really great on then. I have got something like this is right. Imholz. So these are all sorts of different stickers, so you could absolutely pick this to use in your from these butterflies of gorgeous. You could use the's in your journals fried as well you can use. This is your hero, your hero product. So when it comes cheesing your hero product, don't think too much. Just pick up something that is sparking joy for you that you have been saving up for a special project and haven't tried out yet or a new supply. Pick it up and put it to the one side for your hero product. If you want to choose more than one here, a product you absolutely can just try and keep it your minimum say to I wouldn't go any more than that because otherwise you're just getting too many things on your table. On the idea of the 20 minute journaling is that you are creating quickly in a time restraint. So the fewer supplies you have, the more you have to think. If there's something that you're really, really, really loving and you really want to include it, well, then why don't keep that for the next one that you're going to create. So I would definitely recommend sticking to maybe to a good example of maybe say using to would be to pick up something like this ink on, then pick up one of the flowers. So there, Rose, going to work. This is going to work in whatever way you'd like to use it in the background, and then this could give you a really nice focal point for your page. Obviously, if you're going to be using stumps, you're going to need something to go wrong with it. So I'm not really counted that as an extra hero product. So, you know, if you need something to work with the here, apparently you picked That's okay, Just take it out on go have it on your table, ready to go. So if you have a stamp, you'll obviously need ing to do to work with that so you can pick out whatever you would like. I wouldn't would cheat on that one. I'm not Count that as an extra supply for you. Same would go for something like the metallic flakes. They're going to need some kind of a D civil grew to work with that. So I would definitely make sure that you have, You know, everything that you need to make these supplies work, obviously as well. The water Carlos, you're going to need paying brush that is going to work with water colors. So again, I wouldn't be counting something like that. So these are just some really great examples off some hero products that you could use. Definitely recommend digging through your stash, finding things that you haven't may be used in a while or something that's brand new and you're really excited about, so we'll get on to the next lesson. 4. Three colors only!: So let's talk about color choices. So we're limiting ourselves for our 20 minutes to three main colors, So you're going to want to be picking out your colors before you start to your journaling toe. Add into your hero product on also to add into your basic toolbox. So for me, I'm super duper lazy. I'm just gonna completely own it. I could not really be doing with pulling out color wheels on figuring out colors that work together. Now, if you are terrible at picking colors, then definitely something like a color wheel can work really, really well for you. I'm also going to be showing you have to find inspiration for color palettes and color ideas on Pinterest as well. So you can absolutely either go down that route or you can go down the color wheel route for me. Personally, I tend to just pull together colors that I like on and see how they work, so I don't spend too long thinking about it. But these are some of the color choices I've made fairly recently on. They worked really, really well for me, said, just to give you a few ideas to get started So, first of all, I have got these three colors here, So this one is an opera rose. This is a cadmium orange hue on this is cadmium yellow deep you. So they're all colors that are quite close together on the color wheel on. They all work really well together, especially this op arose. If I could use op arose in every single thing that I do for the rest of my life, I would not be unhappy. I love this color, so these corners here, these three colors here make me really, really happy on. There's absolutely nothing stopping you. Continually picking the same three color is because you can have the yellow be more dominant. The orange could be more dominant. The op arose, could be more dominant. It's entirely up to you. So even by using the same three colors on a number of different spreads, you're going to get a completely different log because each one is going to be different. So if you do find a collar pilot that you really like, don't be afraid to stick to it. So these are ones that I really, really like these air ones I use quite recently on one of my YouTube videos And I just was in love with, um another a combination that I really like a swell is this This is the philanthropy Blue permanent green light on Windsor in Windsor, Violet. So these are all winter and Newton colors. So So where these ones self, they're the ones I have. But you know, any kind of violet a bright green on a darker blue will work really well for you as well. Again, these are all quite cool colors. So they're very close to each other on the corner wheel if you're looking at it. So they all work really, really well together because they're complimentary on again, using these colors in different combinations in different strengths. Throughout your journal Sprite is going to give you a very different look for your pages. So don't be afraid of said to keep going back to the same corner pilot. I know. I did so under the color combination that I really love is thes paints here. These air Faison earlier these air the abstract acrylics. If you do happen to see these in the stores, I would highly recommend them. There are gorgeous paints toe work with on a super handy Because you just twist off the top on poor at your pain. So these three colors here is a purple primary yellow on a turquoise. I just love turquoise. So these three colors here go really, really well because we've got, like, a really nice dark purple on the super bright yellow on the turquoise. The yellow and the turquoise go really, really well. Zago. The purple just adds an extra nice kind of comprehension corner. Cheatham. So I really like this combination as well. This is a really good one. So the one that I really like is this Delusions Pain is one of my favorites as well. This is their vibrant turquoise. So I will use this in just about any excuse I have along with like, the op arose like this and the op arose. Go really, really well together. Just look at that car was just absolutely gorgeous on the paint is super thick on just you me to work with. So I really enjoyed working with that one. Then I have this one here it is a light blue permanent. So this is a paint. I actually got in India. This is quite an old paint, but it's a really nice, vibrant blue, and it's nice and light. So gets a recognized contrast to the turquoise, turquoise, blue and pink will always work together, no matter what shade you've got them in. So you could have a lighter pink. You could have a direct turquoise or a darker blue. There'll always worked really, really well together. On this is a data Rony on This is a fluorescent pink, so this is another one of mine that's a real favorite. It's kind of a tie between when NOAA Paros is first of always, always and forever it will be up arose, but this one is a really lovely fluorescent pink. It's super bright, so it's just really you me to work with. So these three colors work really, really well together as well. So I'm going to hop across to my screen and I'm gonna screen share with you a few ways that you can find different color inspirations from the likes of Pinterest so you can save them for later. And then you can kind of match your paints to the ones that you see on the screen and get some really cool ideas for combining different colors. So here we are, inside Pinterest on. This is somewhere that I love to come to get some color inspiration. So when I go into Pinterest, one of the things that I like to look up is color palette. So if you search color palette on Pinterest, you'll see all of these gorgeous pins come up on. You will not be sure of inspiration when you look through these, so it's just a case of scrolling through them, seeing which kind of color combinations air catching your eye. Which ones you think would work well with the colors that you have already in your paint box might not be a bad idea toe. Have few of them out in front of you. Just see that you can kind of couldn't start to compare. Now you'll obviously no have all the same color combinations that you can see here. But it does give you a really great idea off which colors work well with each other, which ones are complementary. So if you're stuck for where to start, this is a really, really great place to go, so don't be afraid to look for inspiration elsewhere. Andi look at fashion magazines. Look at fashion pictures here on Pinterest pictures off flowers. If nature you'll see all sorts of interesting color combinations when you start to look through them on as you start to pin them and save them the ones that you like. Not only can you come back to them, but also then Pinterest starts to show you mawr. So whenever you open up your Pinterest boards, you're going to be inspired by what's straight away right there in front of you. Another great one is, too. Look under something like color schemes on. You can then get even mawr Inspiration. More options. There's just endless possibilities here on Pinterest, so it would highly recommend that if you're stuck for what kind of colors to go through which kind of combinations that you'd lights try, then This is a really, really great place to start on dure not wasting your time on Pinterest here because you're really going to be using all of the different color combinations as inspiration for your art journals here 5. Quick Art Journal Background 1: showing you here in this video three different techniques to use a your 20 minute art journal backgrounds. Now the backgrounds I'm going to show you are quite simple on. They are very quick to do, and that's the whole point off this entire exercise. We're short on time. We want to sit down and create, and we don't want to think too much about it. So it's important when you're creating these backgrounds that you remember. These really are just a background. You can go ahead and change them later on, so don't worry too much about what they're looking like when you're putting the paint down . The important thing is to just be really loose and get it down on the page. So the corners that I'm going to be using 53 colors because they're really some of my favorites. So I have a bright yellow, which is the cadmium yellow deep You I have my favorite op arose on. I have the cadmium orange hue I also have here my Payne's gray just hand from my took it. I may or may not use this at this stage, but it's there in case I needed so I would definitely recommend that. You just gonna keep this one toe hand? I also have Jaso not far reaches. Should I feel like I need it? So I have already prepared my page on the next couple of pages to show you the background techniques with Jess. Oh, so it would definitely recommend that you packed your pages first. The thing that I like to do the most when I'm finished or just as I'm finishing up with my art journal for the day or the evening or whenever I'm working on it is I like to go ahead and prepare the next page of Jess. So that way, when I come to sit down, I don't have to worry about putting Jess so down on my page and waiting for it to draw in all of that stuff. It's there already. So I tried to work a couple of pages ahead with Jess. Oh, it's the last thing I do normally slap on a bit of Jess. Oh, he got it really quickly. And then it's done and it's ready. So I have my paints, and I have are quite a big brush here. This is about really an inch and 1/2. This is just a really cheap brush that I keep her just for this kind of thing. So it's a nice big brush, so I would definitely recommend getting yourself a big brush. Doesn't matter what the make is or even if it's very expensive. Most of my brushes air really cheap because I'm quite mean to them. So I don't really see the point in investing in really expensive ones, but these ones have been really good to me. So the first thing I want to do is just pick whichever color I want to start with. And I'm not overthinking this too much. So I'm going to start with, I think, yet I'm gonna start with yet. So one of the things I like to do when I am starting my journal pages is kind of create like a patchwork of color, so I'll create the color in sections. So when I'm going in with my brush, I generally tend to do like a big speaking section right from one page to the next, so that I have color on both sides that is matching, so that's what we're going to go ahead and do so nice. Big look pain on. I'm just slapping it on. I'm not really thinking too much about where it's going, because this is just about cracked going to leave these two sections here because I'm going to add in the pink. - So that's one background finished completed. That's as much as I would work on it for, especially if im working in 20 minutes. I can go back in and add some more layers afterwards and will show you how to do that in a moment with some extra Jess so and things to blend the pages together. But this is a Sfar, as I would go with my background for right now. So, as you can see, I really slapped on the paint willy nilly and I wasn't paying too much attention to where it went. A really good rule is to try and have the same color on both sides so that you have a balance of composition in your journal pages. So I have orange on both sides. I have yellow going across the middle, and I have the op arose on the opposite sides as well. So I'm gonna go ahead and show you another background now 6. Quick Art Journal Background 2: So for the next background that I'm going to show you, I'm going to be using one of my favorite tools, and that is this thing here. This is a catalyst. On it is by Princeton. The one that I have is 01 mini. So it is a flexible plastic or silicone. I'm not sure exactly what is made off, but it's a tool that you can use to apply paint to your page. So I use this all the time. I use it for my Jess. Oh, I use it to apply paint for backgrounds, especially. It gives you a lovely finish, and it just gives you a really quick application off the paint on It applies it so thinly that the plane, the paint, basically drives straight away. So if you have this in your toolbox, then dig it out now because it's something that I really love to use. If you don't have one of these in your stash, that's absolutely fine. You can use something like an old gift card would be perfect to apply the pain. The important thing is that we're applying the paint quickly. America would be scraping it on. So is giving us a different look from the paintbrush. So the colors that I've gone with here I have gone with the turquoise. I've gone with deep magenta and gold with the yellow. So these are the abstract acrylics from similiar. I really like them. There are much thicker paint than the other paints from the Windsor and Newton Galleria. So it's going to be give me quite a different texture. I also have my pains great again to hand just in case. I feel like I need it. So that's there. So I'm going to start off with the turquoise because it is one of my favorite colors. I'm just gonna put a small amount onto my catalyst. So with my catalyst, I'm just going to start scraping it across the page, so this will not give a perfect application, which is exactly what we're wanting. We just want to get paid on really, really quickly. So then I think I'm going to go in with some of the yellow that magenta is quite dog. So I think I'll keep that for towards the end. So I'm just going to go over the top off the turquoise, so I'm just applying it in random places. And I don't mind if there's some white still showing through that stop city. Fine. I'm going to go on with my magenta and I'm going to turn the page so that I'm going to get things in a different direction. The important thing is not to overthink it. Just get it down on the page, cars off the scraping with my catalyst, the way I'm applying the paint, the under layers are basically dry already. Pretty much as soon as they go on, they dry super fast. What? So that's my background finished. That's as much as I would do right now. I will use this one as an example because I'll go back over again with some Jess Oh, to kind of called make colors come together, mute some of the colors down on. I can go in again and as more layers to it. So I will show you that one. Once we have finished with the sample for the next background 7. Quick Art Journal Background 3: this next page, We're going to do Twitter for lead. We're going to start off with something else. So I have got my mechanical pencil from my toolbox on. I'm going to start off by just adding in some scribbles over the background before even put any pain time just to give the background a little bit of interest. So it really doesn't matter what you write for, you can make it matter if you would like to, um, so you can just start anywhere that you like. So we're just gonna start scribbling, so I would just make your handwriting. It's not meant to be eligible, so just make it kind of nice and loose and kind of big loops and things exaggerate where you would go. So So you see here I've added the next line is kind of going into the wood line above. It s so it really kind of blurred that out. Can't see it too much scribbled writing. So this just gives me an extra layer through the background. So I'm going to go in. I think this time I have three colors again. I have got this one by liquid. Tex, this is their basics. This is the brilliant yellow orange. I have the floor in the land, Throw blue and I have the delusions vibrant turquoise. So I am going to start, I think, with the lighter off Connors with the liquid tax. And I'm going to go back in again with my catalyst just because I really love it. So I'm just going to go right over the top of writing. It might smudge a bit, but I don't don't really about me. So again, I'm just working the corner across the two pages on our you. Some of this blues rather yummy. So I loved varying the direction as well. It just gives you an extra a bit of interest. You know what? For this last bit, Let's get our fingers in there. So it doesn't even matter that you've cord up most of the writing. Some of it will still peek through. Actually, this turquoise is kind of a bit too similar for my liking to the blue. So what? I'm like Jews. I might go in with a little bit of my Payne's gray. I just feel like that was two corners air blending a bit too much I had a bit of dark in today. I love using my fingers. It's super fun on super messy. - Okay , so that's about as much as I would do for the background there. That's it started off. So in the next part, we're going to be going in. I'm looking at how we can add a little bit more detailed to our records on. We're going to be looking at how we're going to be using our hero image or hero product as well. 8. Adding in your Hero Item Part 1: Okay. So of all backgrounds that I created, I think this one is jumping out at me The most Teoh work on some or because it's got lots of different elements to it that I'm really liking. I'm loving all of the finger marks up here with the Paynes Grey and I love the little bits of text. But at the moment I feel like it's too dark. So I've picked out my hero things that I want to work with. So I have got this pearlescent liquid acrylic on This one is by Dona Rony. I haven't used these in forever, so I pulled this out because I thought it would brighten up the page, Give it a bit of shimmer on. I really like to work with, um, on my pages on. I also was looking for an image. So I found this lovely flower that I cut out a while ago, and I think the pink is really going to pop against the background. I also pulled out this. This is some Japanese newspaper that had saved for ages. So I thought I'd be kind of cool to add this into the background. So I'm counting the users one unaccounted. This is too. So you can be a bit more free with your hero image or your hero product. But just don't have any more than, say, two or three, because you really the whole idea off this kind of journaling is that you're limiting yourself. You're pulling out only a few things and you're making them work. So what I want to do is I'm going to work a little bit more in the background before I start adding in too many things. I have got a few ideas here for this flower. I want to have the flower here on this side because it kind of cut off on the magazine on this side. So I want to line it up right here against my page. But I'd like to make the background off the page a little bit brighter. So for that, I'm going to go in unused. My Jess. Oh, so Jess Oh, is an amazing medium. I really love it. I think it just doesn't get enough credit. So to start off with, I'm just going to take my catalyst, and you can use your gift card or whatever you have to scrape Sit on on. I'm just going to add in a few bits across the page on what this is going to do is it's going Teoh put the colors a little bit to the background on is just going to add in a little bit more interest on Unify the page. Just that little bit more. So I'm not covering the whole page. I'm just going into sections on what will happen is it just means muted. Picked the colors down a little bit. I've ended covering up some of that nice finger marks, so I'm just going to take a baby white and take some of that off because I actually do you really like that. So just gently take away some of the Jessup because I don't want to lose all that that on already. I feel like that's really kind of brightened up the page, and it's made it a little bit more uniform to, So I don't this very here think could be again a little bit darker. So I'm going to go back in, I think with my Payne's gray, because I'd like to have a nice contrast between the flower in the page on. I'm just going to take a smaller brush. And I'm just going to add in a few just brush strokes off the Paynes Grey just to kind of I'm just almost mirroring what I've got going on up here, but with a brush. So just with some splats. Okay, I like that now. So from my tool kit, I'm going to take my liquid text marker on. I want to add in some white marks parts here, so I'm going to add in a few kind of white marks down here, So I'm just going to go in and just this is all I'm going to do. I'm just going to use the shape off pen to just make marks across the page here, and I'm just sticking to this area off turquoise. I'm going back over the top, all of the Jessop as well. And that's fine. Just really, really quick marks. So don't think too much about where they're going. They just get down. And that's that. I think maybe this section here this and it's nice to rotate your page as well and kind of rotate the marker as well because you get a different thickness of mark on again. I'm just using this little pocket of turquoise to keep my marks inside. Now what I want to do as well is I want to go in. I'm going to go in with from my toolbox. My water. Connor Market, this is the Windsor Newton one on. I also have a water brush here Toe work with that because this will be activated with water . So what I'm going to do is I'm going to use the brush tip on. I'm going to add in some marks in this section here. Just with this one is the move. I think it's going to really kind of brighten up this area a little bit, and it's going to help tie in with the tones off the flour as well. So again, I'm just going to go in just randomly. And I'm not too worried about where these go, because these are going to be watered down just very quickly. Going in on I will put. I think a few over here is well just to tie that she pages together. Not too many on this. So then I'm going to go in with my water brushing this is where I really like to use the water kind of markers. I'm just very lightly going to go over the top of them. So not only will it mute down the marks that you've made, but it also gives you this lovely pop off kind of, you know, mobile. I would call it more of a magenta, but I won't argue with Windsor and Newton. So we're just going to add in this to just kind of distort the marks. Just that little bit more. I think I'm going to just put a little bit. Where else? Just little bit down here, I think. And I'm not sure. Just dabbing the brush over the top off the marks on already. We've got a huge amount of interest on layers and you've seen how it built up the layer is You've seen that? It's really simple on if you look at this area here, where we've got the watercolor marker is not just gorgeous. Look how it's bled and kind of mixed and all its just so yummy. So I'm happy with where they say is right now. So what I'm going to go and do is I want to add in. I think my flower. Now I'm going no, even use this newspaper. I might just call it good without it. I'm not sure yet. Um, so my flower is definitely going to go in there, and actually, I'm not gonna use my father just yet. I'm going to use this, my Perec pearlescent. So I'm just going to grab my water spray. Just give this one a really good shake. I'm just going to add some drips down the side of my page. One of my favorite things to do with liquid acrylics. - Okay , so this page is going to need some time to dry, so I'm going to give it the time to try. Because with the liquid acrylics, they do take a little bit longer than, say, a regular acrylic. You think it would be quicker, but they aren't actually quite a while. On the progressive ones, they're worth the drying time. So I will give it a bit of a blast with the heat gun just to keep things moving on. Because you know, when you're time poor, you don't always have the time to wait for that. So I will give them a blast on. I will come back to you guys and we will work with our image 9. Adding in your Hero Item Part 2: Okay, So let things dry with the heat gun on. It didn't take too long to dry this awful, which is important when you're working with things. We sure to pick something that's going to be fairly easy to either he gone on really quickly dry, or it will dry very quickly by itself, because obviously we're working in the time constraint of 20 minutes, so we don't have oodles of time. So I'm going to know Go in with my floral image. Andi, I'm going to pop it. Like I said, I'm gonna pop it here. I think my pop it down a bit, just so we don't lose all of that nice marks over there. So I think maybe somewhere like around here, maybe No, maybe a little bit Hope. Yeah. I think I might go in. Not a few more. That's what. Would you do that now? Because this looks so nice. I don't want to lose it. Okay, that's better. It's up. Will pop this in here? Yeah, better. So for my flower, I'm going to stick it down. I'm just going to use acoustic because again, it's not a wet Well, it is wet, but It's not as what is a you know Matt medium or anything like that will be so we're not going to have to worry about waiting for the glue to dry or for it the page to the West or anything. Just go ahead and do that time. Okay, so what I was thinking when I was looking at this flower on the page, I feel it's a bit. It's on the patient. I really like it, but it's not kind of blending in with it. So I'm going to go in with some off my Jess so again, and I'm gonna use the Jaso a bit like a white paint now. So I'm just going to start kind of adding in like a white kind of line. I'm just using my paintbrush to really just kind of dab to just create this kind of I don't know what you would call it, like a river water night. I just I just want it to flow across the page because I feel like the flower is lovely, but it just is kind of like it's just it's almost like it's just it's stuck on the page. I know it is stuck on the page, but it's like it's no mixing with the page, so I'm just going to add it in on. It's just going to make it look a little bit more my take with stem. Okay, so he's going to get this a quick blast with the heat gone now, so it's dry enough now for us to work on on top of it. It's not going to go anywhere on. I really love how this has just really made the page part, made the flower pop and just really brought the whole thing together is leading the eye from the flower across to the other page. So I remembered that I had some of this really thin masking tape, so I mean, it's OK to add in a few. I mean, look, the 20 minute police is not gonna come to your door. You could heard in whatever you want, but I just I remembered that I had this really thin masking tape. So what I'm going to do, so I'm just going to stick it across the flower just so it looks almost like the flowers real and I've kind of, you know, just stuck it into my book like a pressed flower. Even though I haven't done, it's not so. I just wanted to other in that little bit of extra details. So don't be afraid to add in a little pop here and they're off something that's kind of job jumping out at you and grabbing your attention. So that's our hero product. Finished this on my flower. I do not want it there now. Dropping away the image. Okay, that's fine. I'll just leave. So we are done? No. With adding in our here a product, I am actually not going to go with the Japanese newspaper. I don't think it needs it so you can pull things out and not use them, so that's absolutely 100% allowed. So I think what I'm going to do, I'm going to finish this page off on the finishing. Details are gonna be on. Put a few more extra marks in around on. I'm going to go in with, of course, some fan poetry. If you know me, if you follow me, if you've seen my work on Instagram or on YouTube, you'll know that fan poetry is everything to me. So I'm going to pop a little from home. I think in this area here, because this is this is lacking something. Um, we will have a chat when we're finishing off with the final details. 10. Finishing Touches: Okay, So we are entering the final phase now off our journal spreads for 20 minutes. So I have picked out a few bits off text for my final poem. Now, these were some leftovers from a scene that I made recently. I had type them out on my typewriter, so you can imagine any kind of phrase or words or anything that means something to you. Quote, perhaps. Or you could add in some journaling. You know, that's a perfect spot for you to add in some journaling. It would look really cool if you use, you know, like a white marker. You go over the top here and have some writing in there, so I'm gonna go with this. So these are already prepared because I had prepared them for my scene. So they have got double sided tape on them, so I'm gonna go ahead and stick those down before I stick those down. I'm thinking I would like to do something a little something here. I'm going to go in with my Payne's gray watercolor marker. I gonna go with the brush mark on just like I did with the move. I'm just going to do some marks across the page, so I'm just going toe in random kind of place is just I didn't So this is just the last little bit. I just felt like I really like the white, but it just kind of was a bit, I don't know, but you white for me. So I'm just gonna go in with my water brush and again, like we did with this off a bit. There's still some purple on it, just like we did with that. Just I'm just gonna kind of scrub it in a little bit. I'm not going to go over with my masking tape here because I want that to be on top. So it just Addie in a little bit of an extra layer there. - I think I'm done with this page. I really like how it turned out. I think it started to have quite dark and kind of weird looking, but I think we pulled it together there at the end. And I really like all of the different layers. I love my flower only masking tape and, of course, my fine poem. So in the night's class, we're going to be looking at our class projects are 20 minute journal page. I'm going to recap the toolbox for you. I'm going to show you a real time video of me creating the 20 minute journal page on. Then we'll talk about what I want you to do for the class project. 11. 20 Minute Real Time Journal Spread: so high. Everyone on Welcome, Teoh. The final part off our past. So what I wanted to do for you was I wanted to actually create a page in real time for you so you can see me work right the way through it. Now, I know we already made this page on. I'm really in love with it. But I guess I was talking to you guys and explaining things we were doing in different stages. So I wanted to show you that it definitely can be done, that you can work in 20 minutes if you just get yourself a little bit organized and you have your things toe hand. So I have all my things from my toolbox. Right here. I have my mechanical pencils, my watercolor markers. I pull down a brush here and I also have my large brush on. I have my catalyst as well, just in case I need them. So they're already to hand. I have my markers and I have my water brush as well. So for my color palette, I have picked out these three colors. I have got this delusions paying its bubble gum pink on. It is just young on. I also have another yellow sense of the cadmium yellow You, by Dale around me. And this is the graduate credit. I have this one as well. This is just, uh, Deco or Americana on is a turquoise water, so it's instantly lighter, kind of turquoise blue. So these are the three colors that I'm going to work with on then for my hero products and hero images. All that fun stuff. I have got the stamps that I had found I bought them for ever ago. It says, bam pop 2000 nine. I think it looks like there. So, uh, yeah, probably would be about right s. So I'm not sure where these came from or if they even exist anymore, But that really cool kind of digital numbers. So I'm going to go with those on. I have this image here that I had been saving. I really liked them on. I think I'm going to kind of maybe like Farsi cut around thes ladies here with their umbrella. So I think that will look really cool on my page. So, as always, I've got my Jessel turned my large, Jess. Oh, so what? I'm going to do is I have already just So the page, I'm just going to go ahead and get started. So I will speed up this bit so that you're not actually watching 20 minutes worth of stuff , our speed it up a little bit because you guys know you know the tools. I don't have to explain the ball to you, but I just want to show you that really can achieve quite a cool page within 20 minutes. So I have my timer here. So I pinky promise that this is actually going to be 20 minutes. I'm not going to editor our or anything like that. So you see, on the clock for about 20 minutes, I'm going to start the clock on get going with my journal page. So here is my finish. Spread on. Do you saw me making in the video? I was down to my last seconds there, and I really I'm in love with it. Look how beautiful the water color marker reacts is just I just love doing this. It's just so nice. Now I did. You have seen me? I fost with this too much. Perhaps it was not the best image to choose because her arm kind of because I was cutting it out when kind of weird. So I couldn't really see where was the best place to put it on the page. It was kind of, you know, was there. And then I took it off and then I cut it again, and then eso I was messing. I was messing too much with. So I think I wasted a bit of my time there, but nonetheless I managed to complete the page on I really like how it's turned out. I love to work in this way because it really just forces you to just get on with it. I could have spent ages faffing around with this, and then I was like thinking, Oh, I shouldn't have stumped there, but it didn't matter because it stops it on a covered it up on it was done. It was on to the next thing. So none of these pages are meant to be absolutely perfect. But you learn from them. You learn what color palettes work. You learn some of your new supplies, you learn some different techniques on e. I think it really pushes you creatively to just stop thinking eso. If you find yourself overthinking things a lot in your journal pages or in your artwork, I would definitely recommend giving this method ago because it really is. It's freeing, and it's almost like a child like kind of place because you just get on with it on, make the best of it and cover things up if you have to and not stress too much about it. So between this page and this page, I've created some really lovely pages, and they're two totally different pages as well. But they do have similar elements in them as well. So you get to, you know, your paintbrushes experiment with paint marks, all of that kind of fun stuff on. I think the pages are really just a really fun thing to make. So I can't wait to see your class project.
