1. Hi there!: Hi there. My name is Marcy. Through all my years
of teaching sewing, there is one issue that
continues to occur. And sometimes even after
learning what the issue is, people will still
haven't happened and experience so much stress that they still believe
that they have to take their sewing machine and
have maintenance done on it, which can cost you
$100-150 nowadays and is actually very unnecessary if this is the issue
that's causing trouble. So let me show you how to fix
it and save you some money. And save you the stress of what happens when
you experience it. If you're a beginner, it's going to probably happen. Eventually. You learn it now,
then it will save you money and save you
stress later on. So let's get right to it.
2. Projects: I think that the
best project after doing this video would
be to make yourself experience what it's
like when you loosen the tension and you make the big loops happen
and you hear the noise. And you get familiar with it so that it doesn't stress
you out when it happens. So I really like to see
that and I'd like to hear what you felt
about when it happened. And if you feel
confident that next time that you will not
be bothered by this, it will be muscle memory
experience for you. Where it kind of gets
into your brain, kind of sinks into your brain so that you don't freak
out when it happens. Make yourself experienced this. And tell me all about it.
3. Good Stitches: I would like to note
that the upper thread is pink and that the bobbin is chartreuse green color,
yellowish green. I will now show you
when we saw the fabric, which is white, where each of
those threads will appear. I'm now going to show you
what the stitches look like when the tensions
are working well, the upper and the
bottom are in sync. This is the upper tension, which showing no
loops on the bottom. And the bottom tension showing
no large loops on the top. Now I'm going to
show you what it's like when it's going
to make you crazy.
4. Loosen tension : Generally speaking,
a normal tension on a machine is about three. And in order to get loops to happen on the
bottom so that you know, the whole process and how it affects you and how it feels. We're going to lower the
tension to about a one. I tried before, maybe a two
and it didn't quite work. So I'm gonna go all
the way down to a one. That's where we're
surely going to get the issue to arise
for us to practice. Alright, let's try it this time. I hear it. Oh, something's wrong. Let's see. Oh my
goodness, you see that? Look at this. Something majors wrong with the sewing machine. But you know what I did, I just listened to tension. So when that happens, now we're going to
tighten attention backup and watch it go back to normal. See how crazy that looks. It's very stressful. Quite stressful when you get it to look like
that and you have no idea what it is and you think I have to take
it in for them to fix it. Now let me show you one
more thing that can happen. Seems that everything
is okay, right? Then there's a little surprise. Now this time. And we didn't hear that
really stressful sound that you might hear
with some machines. But you may continue sewing
thinking everything's okay. Only to discover
that on the bottom. Now have large loops indicating that the upper
thread tension was too loose.
5. Clean up threads : Before I go to fix it, what I will do is
I'm just going to double-check under
the bottom to make sure that some of those
loops didn't get caught in the bottom and cause any
thread to get stuck in there. Just remember, remove
the needle for safety. So you don't poke yourself. Just loosen it till
the needle comes out and then slide it down. And by the way, needles only go into each machine the way
that they're made. So the flat part, the flat part on the back, will only fit in one way. You can't put the needle into
your machine the wrong way. It just won't fit. And it doesn't have to be super tight. When it goes back in. Don't crank it so that
you can't get it off. Just a little note. Presser feet come
off, remove them. Then you can open the bottom
with the little screws, the screwdriver taking
off the plate and making sure there's no
threat under there. If there was a piece that was having a hard time coming out, you would hold this thread, pull on it, and then turn the hand wheel back and forth up and down until it comes out. You'll be able to pull
it out. Just like that. So I had a few little
pieces in here that got stuck and broken off
when I made the big loops. It's not a really big deal. They came on quite well. And then I will
retry those sewing to see that the notes are gone.
6. Reset tension : Returned the tension to a three. And I'm just going to
test it to make sure that the upper and the lower threads are connecting as they should. Looks good on the top. Looks good on the bottom. Actually, it might be a
little bit too tight. I'm going to check it right. We'll do it right beside it. This side. See if it's
better this time. Let me try it again.
My Dr. fiddle with it. Sometimes. Just never know when you play
around with the tension. I got loose and again, I don't know why that
was Right there. Three looks a lot better. This one here. Instead of these
two on the back, it looks much more even. So you don't see as
much pink on there now. Which means that this
was a little bit too tight or something wasn't quite right
yet. Looks better.
7. Are you relieved?: Well, I hope that was fun. I think it's always really
fun when you can learn something that will prevent
you having stress later on. Especially if you're
beginning to learn how to. So there's a lot of stuff
that you need to learn it. You'll be able to say, Oh, I know that it's a breeze. Then if someone, you know,
goes through bacteria, we able to say the
same thing like, Oh, don't worry about that. You're saving them money. So they might take you out
for lunch or something. I think it's great to share
because it's always fun to learn something ahead of having
an issue about it, right? If it happens now, you won't be worried, you won't be stressed out and hopefully it can be shocking,
just the sound of it. And also if you're
really eager to, so you're into it. And then it's kind of a drag that it happens,
you have to stop. And one good thing about
the fact that the large, they're large loops,
that you will be able to actually cut them
away so easily. Then the threads will
come away pretty quickly. That's another little benefit. Alright, so happy sewing, as I always say, and look for some
more of my videos and also for my video
is being improved. So I'm about to
edit them and fix them and make them happy. So bye for now.
