"Since childhood, I’ve had a fascination for tea cups and coffee mugs.

I am a bit of a collector and pride myself for owning cups and mugs from all across the world - mostly through my travels! However, I end up using most of these as flower vases around my house. This is a habit since childhood where I’d collect flowers from my school garden and bring them home - and my grandfather would just hand me the nearest tea cup to put them in!

I wanted to capture this nostalgia, my love for flowers and my obsession with tea cups, all in one image." - Ridhi Rajpal

Ridhi Rajpal’s Tea Cup Bouquet beautifully combines nostalgia and creativity, capturing her lifelong fascination with tea cups and coffee mugs.

Recommended Procreate Brushes

For this piece, Ridhi used the Dry Ink Brush, found in the inking section on Procreate.

Step-by-Step Tutorial from Ridhi

Ready to have your own attempt at this piece? Here's Ridhi's instructions on how to make this exquisite drawing:

Step 1: Outline the Cup

Switch on the Drawing Guide and select “Vertical” symmetry to draw a tea-cup or coffee mug shape of your choice.

Then, turn off the Symmetry Guide to draw the handle.

To have better control over corrections and color alternations later on, use separate layers for the cup foreground and outline, the background color as well as the handle.

Tip: Do not use ColorDrop when using textured brushes like the Dry Ink brush. Color the spaces manually to retain the brush texture.

Step 2: Add in the Leaves

Next, add in some leaves. Use different sizes and shapes to bring variety. Keep elements on separate layers if you want to manipulate their position later on. Keep all layers organized in groups to rearrange them later, if required.

Step 3: Add the Larger Flowers

Use clipping mask on elements that need to be contained within the area of the element on the layer below. For example, the dots on the center of the flowers.

Step 4: Add the Smaller Flowers

Add in some smaller flowers, such as five-petal or three-petal flowers to bring in variety. Keep the foreground details and the base colors on separate layers for easy changes later on.

Step 5: Add the Smaller Touches

Add in some tiny fillers such as buds, berries or small blooms. Again, I have used a clipping mask to add the dark blue nodes connecting my heart-shaped fillers to the stems.

Step 6: Add the Stems

Add all the stems on separate layers, and arrange their positions according to your final composition. Re-order the layers as required.
