In the past, Skillshare’s class search capabilities have been lacking. We know this because a lot of you told us.

The platform didn’t have many filters to help you narrow your searches, and the filters it did have still returned dozens—sometimes hundreds—of results. In short, it was difficult to find the classes you wanted quickly and easily.

Well, we heard you loud and clear, and we did something about it.

On May 30, 2023, Skillshare launched an entirely new search experience comprising several new filters and two new sort options to make finding exactly the class you want, when you want it, easier than ever.

Skillshare home page with filter menu open, but no options selected, showing 1,824 Procreate classes to choose from.
This is what search results for “Procreate” look like before applying any filters, and sorting only by Relevance. At the time of publication, Skillshare offered 1,824 Procreate classes. You’d have to do a lot of scrolling to find exactly the class you want.

New Filter and Sort Options

New filters include:

  • Class Type – Top Teacher: You’ll be able to narrow your search to classes produced by Skillshare’s most engaging teachers.
  • Class Rating: This is an average of reviews from students who indicated whether a class met their expectations. Options range from four stars (the highest) to two stars and up, or any rating if you want broader results.
  • Classes with – Resources: It’ll be easier for you to find hands-on, practical classes that have downloadable resources that complement the class or support you as you finish your project.
  • Publish Date: If you want to take classes published within a certain time range, you can now specify that.
  • Class Language: No more scrolling through dozens of classes to find the ones in German, Spanish, French or Portuguese.

These new filters join the existing ones that narrow searches by:

  • Class Type – Original or Staff Pick
  • Class Level – Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, or Any
  • Publish Date – Past Week, Month, Three Months, Year or All Time
  • Class Length – Under 30 minutes, 30 minutes to 1 hour, 1 to 2 hours or Over 2 hours

In addition to those filters, you can also choose from three sort options, two of which are new:

  • Relevance: This is how we’ve always sorted search results, and it remains the default. It just wasn’t visible before.
  • Number of Students: This will list all the classes you’re searching for in order from most students to least.
  • Newest Classes: Maybe you’re not quite sure of the time frame you’re looking for, so this new option gives you the classes that have been published most recently.

How the New Search Experience Can Help You

Let’s say you’re looking for a Procreate class:

  • by a Top Teacher
  • for Beginners
  • with a four-star rating
  • with resources
  • published in the past year
  • in English
  • that’s 1 to 2 hours long

You’ll be able to select all those options, and zoom right in to the two classes that meet these criteria, with no repeat searches, and no scrolling through dozens of other classes.

From 1,824 Procreate classes to just 2. Now it’s a lot easier to find exactly what you want!

Or maybe you don’t feel the need to be that specific, and you just want to browse through classes with the most students. All you have to do is select that option in Sort by, and you’ll see all our Procreate classes, listed in order from most students to least.

Still 1,824 classes, but now the classes with the most students are at the top. If that’s an important factor for you, now it’s easier to find those popular classes.

If you’re a Portuguese speaker, for example, and you want to take a beginner Procreate class in that language, with a rating of three stars and up, selecting those filters will lead you to the only class that fits that criteria.

You can now easily find classes in all the languages Skillshare offers: Spanish, French, Portuguese and German.
