We sat down with teacher Andrea Campos to get her advice on how she juggles her full time job and freelance clients. See why she makes time to teach on Skillshare and how she fits teaching, over 10,000 students, into her busy schedule.

“I have a full time job as a social media creative at an ad agency. On the side, I also do freelance work. It’s a lot, but I love it because I always have something new to do. Working with my clients lets me try out new ideas and be more creative.

I’ve always wanted to be a teacher since I was young. It’s such a cool thing to pass on what you learn, but I never found the right time to do it. Skillshare was this thing I could do without having to compromise anything else I wanted to do. I never knew it would be such a big part of my life.

When I started teaching, I was just graduating from my Masters program, I was looking for jobs and I honestly didn’t think I could do it all. But if you plan out your time and you just do an hour a day to plan your class, it’s totally doable.

I like to make my Skillshare classes on the weekends because it’s the only time I have sunshine in my apartment. So during the week, I’ll plan out my class, get everything ready and write my script after work and in between freelance clients. Then on the weekend, I get up really early when there’s good light in my apartment and start shooting. It’s a really cool thing to do other than sitting on my computer working.

Sometime in the future, I want to move back home to El Salvador and open a studio, do some part-time teaching, and have my own little company. My Skillshare income really balances out how much money I make per month, especially when I have less clients. It’s a good side income and I can take it and put it into my savings account for my future studio fund.

I work with a lot of talented people and they always say ‘I just don’t know how to teach.’But it’s all about sitting down and talking about the thing you love doing. If you ask anyone how to do that, they’ll be able to tell you. It’s a really great opportunity just right there for everyone and it can help you out for whatever dream you want to do.”

Start teaching today and see how it can help your future goals!
