At Skillshare, the success of our teachers is a top priority, and we know that getting your classes discovered on the platform is a vital part of that. Our team has been hard at work growing our student community and improving class discovery to help you reach a wider audience.
Today, we share five ways we’re working to bring more students to your classes, along with tips for what you can do to amplify your own success!
Follower notifications each time you publish a new class:
Whenever you publish a new class, we send out a notification email to all your followers, encouraging them to watch your newest class. The email now showcases your class title, cover image, and a short snippet from your class description.
What you can do: Follow our tips for class merchandising to make sure your new class looks polished and engaging in the notification email, and be sure to encourage your students to follow you on Skillshare so that they can stay up to date on your future classes and any other updates you share through your profile.
Improvements to the Home page:
We recognize that every Skillshare student has their own interests and goals, and that’s why we’ve been working hard on algorithmic improvements to the Home page – based on each student’s unique activity on the site – to ensure more classes can get discovered. We’ll be continuing to invest into this area throughout 2017.
What you can do: Continue teaching! Many of the rows displayed on the Home page – such as “Trending,” “Recently Added,” and more – give priority to newer classes, so one of the best way to increase your chances of appearing is to keep publishing fresh content. Get started on your next class in our Spring Channel Challenge!
Featured classes on each Browse page:
Many of the category and subcategory pages within the Browse section of the site now have a “Featured Classes” section to give more visibility to the best new classes on the platform, taught by both new teachers and returning teachers.
What you can do: Our Content team selects classes to be featured based on student engagement levels. Keep your students hooked with these 8 engagement tips.
Improvements to your referral link signup process:
We know it can feel daunting to share your class with your friends and followers, and that’s why we’ve improved the signup experience for students visiting Skillshare through your class or channel referral link. With fun graphics and clear next steps, you can feel confident your followers will be intrigued by the offer to join Skillshare.
What you can do: Keep using your referral links to drive students to Skillshare! Promote each new class you publish with your class referral link (located in the Promote section of each one of your classes), and permanently feature your channel referral link on your blog, website, or anywhere else you live online.
Marketing Skillshare to our existing community and beyond:
Every week, our Marketing team sends at least two class recommendation emails to our entire student base, featuring a selection of classes from a variety of teachers and categories. We also invest resources into promoting Skillshare to external communities through Facebook ads, YouTube influencers, blog sponsorships, podcasts, and more. The goal of our marketing efforts is to grow the Skillshare community to bring you more potential students and revenue.
What you can do: Share your classes with your own community using our marketing tips for returning teachers. Remember, you make an extra $10 for every student you bring to Skillshare!
Have questions on any of these updates or what else you can do to get your classes discovered? Shoot us an email to teach@skillshare.com, and we’ll get back to you ASAP!
