In this easy to follow step-by-step class you will learn how to draw a black subject on black paper. Using colored pencils on black paper can be tricky. Drawing a colorful subject can have a disappointing result as the colors might end up being dull and not colorful at all.
For this first class of the series, we'll focus on using only a white pencil on the black paper. No colors are involved. A small size paper will also help to stay focused and not be overwhelmed by a large amount of work.

I've picked a reference photo of a crow on Pixabay, changed it to black and white, and flipped it. I've attached all three versions, you can pick the one you like best.

Once you’ve gathered the supplies you need, you will start by practicing making lines and doodling on black paper to get a feel for it. Then you'll be transferring your sketch/line drawing of the crow on your paper. And finally you'll start to slowly build your layers and add details.

You can either watch the full class and do the drawing afterward, or start drawing along as you are watching the videos. But to maximize your experience, I would recommend to watch the step-by-step videos once and pay attention to the instructions, then watch them again as you’re drawing.

You will be able to share your work in progress with the other students, as well as your finished drawing. And if you have any questions, please, don't hesitate to ask them in the class' community section, I'm here to help you.
