For your class project, you’ll design your own illustrated field guide page based on a subject of your choice.

This can be a nature-inspired field guide, a creative sketchbook page, a Procreate illustration, a traditional drawing, or a playful collection of anything you love. You might illustrate backyard plants, mushrooms, birds, favorite pens, snacks, cozy drinks, imaginary creatures, desk treasures, neighborhood finds, or any tiny obsession that deserves its own moment in the spotlight.

You’ll start by choosing a theme, gathering ideas, and sketching the main elements for your field guide. Then you’ll build your composition, choose a color palette, add hand lettering or labels, and bring everything together into one cohesive illustrated page.

Your final project can be created in Procreate, in a sketchbook, on loose paper, or with any traditional or digital art supplies you enjoy. Digital illustration, watercolor, gouache, markers, colored pencils, ink, or mixed media are all welcome.

When you upload your class project, share:

Your finished illustrated field guide page
A sentence or two about your theme
Any sketches, thumbnails, color palettes, or process photos you’d like to include

The goal is to create a finished illustration project that helps you practice ideation, composition, color, lettering, and page design while making something personal, playful, and completely your own!
