Hello, I'm Clay,

As a songwriter at Motown Record Corporation for seven years, i wrote, arranged, produced, and played for numerous artists, earning eight Gold and two Platinum records, including Diana Ross (#1 Gold single, “Love Hangover”), The Jackson 5 (writer, Gold singles “The Life of the Party,” “She’s a Rhythm Child,” Gold and Platinum “Time Waits For No One,” “Give It Up”), High Inergy (writer, “Ain’t No Love Left,” “Love Is All You Need”), and “The Life of the Party” is included on the anthology CD Michael Jackson’s 50 Best Songs.

After leaving Motown, I signed with 20th Century Fox Music where I wrote songs for Lenny Williams, (lead singer of Tower of Power), Alton McClain & Destiny, and more. I have also worked with The Supremes, Jermaine Jackson, David Ruffin, Ta Ta Vega, G.C. Cameron, Bette Midler, and many others. I wrote jingles for ‘70s R&B powerhouse radio station KDAY-AM. My music has been heard in commercials, major motion pictures and TV Shows including America’s Top Ten with Casey Kasem, CBS This Morning, Indian Summer/Alive & Kicking, the Jackson’s Variety Show, The Jeffersons, the Carol Burnett Show, the Sonny and Cher Show, So You Think You Can Dance, Star Search, and Mad Men.

I am a frequent keynote speaker and/or guest lecturer for colleges, schools, music industry panels and seminars, songwriting organizations across the nation. I conduct professional songwriting seminars nationwide and have been featured in numerous magazines. I teach the popular professional video course “Seven Secrets to Hit Songwriting”, where I have over 2,400 students in 107 countries.
