Celebrate the warmth of Thanksgiving with creative watercolor crafting that adds a personal touch to your holiday decorations. This personal project utilizes some scraps of color paper/ origami, and cotton laces, to make one of a kind greeting card. The warm color and various texture adds the cottage core vibes on the whole project.

For a variation, here we’re also playing the size and positioning of our paper. Using 5 inch square paper, then place it diagonally into diamond shape.

The artwork itself is a combination of watercolor and ink drawing. I use a color pen to add more fun into it. It’s simple yet fun to make. Incorporating various autumn leaves drawings, like ginkgo, maple, oaks and other shapes that you can easily find outside.

First step is to paint the base color. Using these 3 colors that represent autumn landscape, yellow, vermillion and lilac for a dash of cool color.
Use the color in tea consistency, meaning use them with lots of water so the color is transparent. Play with various brushstrokes to achieve foliage effect. Use the tip for more detailed strokes on the outer rim, and use more pressure and side of the brush for a larger area. To spice things up, add some paint splatter using a smaller brush.

When the painting is dry, time to write some greetings and draw various leaves on it. Use some imagination to put some twist on your drawing. Like adding shape and pattern inside the leaves.

After that I arrange the painting and paste it on the color paper. I choose 2 different colors and 2 different sizes to frame it. Here I choose a brown texture paper and green geometric origami paper that have a nice contrast with the painting.
As a final touch add a cute little bow on top, and decide after it to add a nice frame on the outer side.

Small projects like this can be a refreshing idea to do once in a while and also add some special memories on special occasions.
