Hi Carole! This is excellent, its really popping off the page, I don't think its far away from mine at all :-) If you prefer to paint at smaller scale, just go down a brush size and make sure you are making fine brush strokes but I think these look fine, just the right balance of texture and gradient. Also the colour is looking much better! much more vibrant, I'm so glad you're pleased with it too. I'm already working on filming the next flower painting for the next class! XX

Hi Carole, Thanks so much for posting this question here, its a good one! I think your artwork is already looking great, but practise makes perfect, so have another go now you know what areas you'd like to improve. Also one quick note before I answer the colour question, I think at the centre of the flower you could have a slightly lighter colour graduating to black in the deepest areas, that way it doesn't draw quite as much attention, its looking good but could do with softening a bit. On to the colour mixing!When you say Magenta is it the Permanent Rose? (magenta is a pinky red colour with a bluish tone) In my palette its called 'Opera Rose', and I have another tube very similar called 'Rose' so I expect your 'Permanent Rose' would work well.1st color/first wash: Permanent Rose/ Crimson Red 2nd color: Permanent Rose, Crimson Red and a bit of black 3rd color: Permanent Rose, Crimson Red, tiny bit of purple/lilac and black I also added pure permanent rose to little sections of one side of the flower to give a bit of variation.1st layer of details: a bit of the base first wash plus the first color and a bit of the green base (which was mid green, yellow and tiny bit of black) Tip color: Stays very light with just the first wash and a little bit of the 1st layer of detail. Deeper color : Progressively thicker paint to provide a deeper shade, using more crimson red, purple and black ( though not too dark!) I'd say try not to go too dark too soon, as you then need to work quite hard to blend the darker colour in. When the contrast in colours is too much it makes your lines appear more clumpy and stripey. Would love to see your next piece Carole !! XX

Hey Helen, what if we don't have all the necessary tones and let's say just the primary color more or less? Do we have to achieve them manually or add more water to make it lighter? Also, please make more courses cause you're amazing. LOL! I trained in CAD and digital printing, but always missed the artistic, creative skills applied to surface pattern design. Thanks a lot for coming up with this course!

Oh Rossella, thats so great to hear! So I'd say you might want to get yourself a few different pinky colours to play with as its hard to replicate shades yourself from the primaries. I'd get a magenta/rose, a crimson red, a scarlet red at least and any other shades you think might look pretty. You can always get mini tubes just to experiment with and then if theres some you love you can get more of them.

Also what else would you like to see a class on? More flower painting classes in this technique? or a different technique? Perhaps a class on how to gather inspiration or how to create a mood-board for a collection? or even how to develop your own style? I'd like to make some more classes and I'd like to try and provide some real value and cover some ground thats not been done as much :-)

I actually wanted to do that: leaving a review. Thanks for the specs, Helen! As you mentioned in the other Q/A, this is great for botanical elements and it's not time consuming. Once, I was watching a video of Longina Philips and they say you need to be able to create 2-3 designs a day!Me personally, I decided to grow as an artist for my mental health and potential business (just a POD or maybe a bit of freelancing, but trying with no expectations you know), so I am definitely interested in surface design, textiles and patterns.Yeah, I think showing another fab technique like this one (although it would be great to see another flower painted like this, but let's say I have to choose) AND how to develop a floral pattern collection (actually, draw and paint, not just vector art) would be AWESOME! I took a look at your website and I was reading about your grandma: so inspiring! Last but not least, the products are BEAUTIFUL!!!!!

Yes don't let the longina video put you off, they are right you need to churn out a lot of prints to make a living these days, it doesn't suit everyone. BUT there are ways to make enough work, for instance no one would expect you to create 2-3 botanical floral prints in a day. What they'd probably brief is one group of florals that would take a whole week or more and then brief you some very quick groups of textures or geometrics to make up numbers as they need all sorts of designs to make up a full collection. Customers are looking for all sorts, and a beautiful flower always sell so its worth putting the time into it. 
Great tips on ideas for my next class, I have lots of ideas now. I think I'll do another couple of flower painting classes so its a bit of a collection and then move onto some more textile based classes.

Hi Helen, has promised this is my second try. I am quite happy with this one. Very far from yours.&nbsp;do you think the size can affect the rendering of the flower? mine is not as big as yours, mine is 25cm. Thank you for your advice.

Hi Helen this is my first try. I hope that the second one will be better. My second coat was really to dark and my strokes are to short. It&rsquo;s not feathered as yours. Sorry to send you that by messenger but I did not find the Facebook group where I send you my last flower. Any advices will be welcome before I start the next one. &nbsp;I know that the upright petal was not suppose to have dark tone, but I went to fast I think.
 Could it be possible to have the exact colors that you used. I don&rsquo;t seems to get it right. This is what I retained
