On the first photo I used symmetr, repetition and the rule of thirds. 

On the second photo I wanted to capture the gorgeous sky and clouds so I used the rule of thirds and put ihe horizon line very low. And the boat is the detail which helped this image not to be monotonous. It is also located in accordance with the rule of thirds.
