David, this is truly creative! Everyone, notice the 3 + 4. You see these numbers in music! In music there are 7 tones, we play 7 tones. <ul><li>3 tones are stable</li> <li>What are they?</li> <li>They are 1 3 5 </li> <li>So we have Basic triad chords - 1 3 5 - most stable chord</li> </ul>What about 4? Can anyone offer some answers? This will lead great discussion for all of us.  Join in and put in your feedback.

If you mean 4 as in four tones, like a Major 7th or dominant 7th chord, those would be unstable as they need to resolve to the tonic.  

Yes, that woks also.  Definitely the dominant 7th chord will be very unstable while the Major 7ths give us very sweet sounds.  Another thing we can consider is the other 4 tones in the 7 tones.

Stable tones: 1 3 5
Color tones: 2 4 6 7

Can you finish a song on the 3rd? I think David Cook did a Mariah Carey song once on AI and he finished the vocals on the 3rd. 

Seldom but yes.  Do you know the gospel song "Just As I am", sung by Billy Graham crusade a lot.  That song ends on the 3rd.


Sure. We use it as an invitation song often. 

4 is used to create a 7th chord. 1 3 5 7 example C7 = C E G Bb
