I really enjoyed learning Makiko's methods for creating a collage illustration in Photoshop! 

I started with this rough sketch:

I used these textures for the top view turtle. (Burlap, denim, cork, lace, scratchy paint & corrugated cardboard. 

I came up with following collage illustration of a turtle! I mostly used hue/saturation for this one.  I used the levels adjustment for the shadows. 

Then I wanted to try another illustration, so I used two different painted textures that I created. I used the curves adjustment to create the stripes in the turtle's shell. 

I had a lot of fun with the techniques described in this class!  Thank you Makiko!
