Hello!

My name is Katie Deck and I am an illustrator, designer, and artist living in West Tennessee.

For my class project, I decided to create a design inspired by my travels. I studied abroad when in college and fell in love with Brugge, Belgium. I loved the graceful swans, amazing chocolate, delicate lace, and charming architecture.

MOODBOARD

I used some pictures I took when I was in Brugge as well as some images I found on Pinterest for my moodboard. I wanted to use a more muted color palette, as it reminds me of a cloudy day in Belgium.

SKETCHES

Once I had my moodboard together, I worked on the sketches. I really enjoyed drawing the swans!

MOTIFS ELEMENTS

I ended up designing way more elements than I actually needed. In a way it was nice because I had lots of options. But I probably spent way too much time designing the elements than I should have.

PATTERN

I played with my pattern design for hours, finessing the layout and colors as I went. I also got a bit carried away with the recolor artwork tool. Seeing all of the color options was too much fun!

PRODUCT MOCKUPS

I popped my finished patterns into a mockup to help me better see the finished product. I'm pretty stoked with how they turned out!!

I really enjoyed this class! Even though I've been using Illustrator for a while, I still learned some new tips and tricks.

I can hardly wait to see what patterns I come up with next!
