I really enjoyed these lessons with Peggy and learning new techniques. It's so nice to have a guide while you're getting out of your comfort zone. The 2 biggest differences for me were 1-painting with no pencil sketch to go by (nerve-wracking but freeing!) and 2-drawing lines in a single stroke. I'm more a a sketcher. It takes a lot of concentration for me to control the pen and not make short, sketchy marks but long and purposeful lines. Here are some of my paintings and doodles from the class...

I followed along with the vases and then tried it on my own with teapots...

Next came the flower doodles. I had such a tight grip on that pen! Need to relax and breathe.

Getting REAListic - I doodled along with Peggy and then (since I don't have an iPad Pro and Apple pencil YET!) I decided to use some watercolor for fun and to apply the lessons from the first section of vases. I tried to keep it loose and easy.

Finally I doodle some leaves and then used watercolor and white pen like the first lesson again...

I'm pretty happy with the results and I absolutely enjoyed the process! Can't wait to do more with these techniques. Thanks so much Peggy!

5 PROMPTS

Keeping in mind the "Whimsical Order" concept from Dylan's class, the first prompt I tried was "draw 25 different lines." I kept it orderly by drawing circles first to contain the lines.

Prompt 2: draw a familiar object, break it down into pieces, reassemble in a new way. Not sure what to say about this one except it is whimsical...

Prompt 3: draw your favorite flower (Poppies!), draw it again with your non-dominant hand. I had to concentrate a lot more but the non-dominant turned out better than I expected. The uneven edges of the poppy petals definitely helped.

Prompt 4: Create a garden of shapes. I had 2 ideas for this one so I tried them both. They are definitely different than anything I've drawn or painted before. And they fit the whimsical order concept.

Prompt 5: A bold bouquet. Last but not least, I painted a bouquet of tulips for another class that I really didn't like at all. So I turned the page and moved on. When I was flipping through my sketchbook looking for ideas for a bouquet, I saw the tulips and a light bulb went off...maybe if I added some loose black pen like in Peggy's class it could be salvaged. So I tried it and VOILA - I think it worked!

Overall, I loved this workshop. I'm going to take Dylan's other class too, I just ran out of time. I plan to use some of the other prompts to keep exploring my style. I don't know where I'm headed but I sure am having fun getting there. Thanks for everything!
