Hi , my name is Donna and I’m a Graphic designer. I was an Adobe fan till I came across Canva (simplified graphic-design tool website) and discovered that it is one for the best tools out there for beginners, who need to design everything from posters to social media post themselves.

I’m going to start out explaining the tools and how to use them, before getting you to complete exercises so that you can get some hands-on experience in using Canva.

Who is this class for?
This class is for those people who have little experience in design or a professional looking an easy tool so that they can design social media posts etc for there business.

What you’ll take away:
At the end of this course, you will be able to:
• Quickly design social media posts
• Create a design from scratch
• Able to adapt templates for anything you need
• Be confident in using all the tools, effects, elements and adding text.

We will start out explaining the tools and how to use them, before getting you to complete exercises so that you can get some hands-on experience in using Canva with projects like to try:

· Social media post for Instagram

· Poster

· Presentation

· Business card

This course about Canva is very useful as it a tool that any beginner can pick and use for mulitple reasons. If you are into social media and want to create more professional images, Canva can help as it provides templates you can adapt and animation features to make your posts stand out.

Materials and resource

For this course you will need a Canva account but don’t worry it’s totally free. It good idea to have as you will be able to try out what I teach alongside it.

Class Project Description

So, I hope you have enjoyed the course and feel a bit more at ease using Canva. Now it’s time to get a bit more practice by completing a 2-part project which won’t take you long but gives you a chance to try out the tools yourself;

In the first part of project you’ll complete a poster design with the following details added to it:

1. Post design template to use

2. The theme for your poster is – Music event

3. The event name is ‘The big one’

4. Add at least one image

5. Add the following details: Date: 6- 8th August 2021, Venue: The Cresset Theatre, Rightwell, Bretton, Peterborough, PE3 8DX. Show starts at 7.30pm – 12.30

6. Fonts use at least 2 different ones

So once you have completed the poster there is just one other task to do. Like all events you will promote the social media, so your task for this is to:

· Either create a Facebook or Instagram post to promote this event. It has to be in same style as the post

· At least two posts created

Once you have completed your projects upload them to class project gallery to get some feedback and to also see what others have done too.

Project Introduction Video
In the second video we suggest giving a high-level overview of the class project. You can use these questions as prompts: (1) What is the project for today’s class? (2) Why did you choose this project? (3) Any suggestions for setting yourself up for a successful project? (4) Anything students should know or do before diving into the main lessons?

Within this project introduction video: be sure to cover exactly what students should deliver as their final projects, along with asking them to post their projects in the Project Gallery.

1# The final project Slideshow 1-3 min

Talk about the 2 final projects which consists of a poster and a social media poster to promote an event. I chose this project as it uses a lot of the elements explained in the course, so that you can explore the features on your own more. All details are explained in the project summary and its up to you how creative you can get, if you feel like adding video or animation to your social media posts go for it.

Once you have completed your projects upload them to class project gallery to get some feedback and to also see what others have done too.

The toolbar is one of the main aspects to using Canva. Here we will cover:

· Colours

· Effects

· Filters

· Adjust

· Crop

· Animate

· Lock

· Position

· Transparency

· Copy style

· Link

· Duplicate

6# Slideshow/Screencast 2-5 minutes.

Photos and text will be the two main elements used; we will cover how to:

· Add an image

· Upload images/videos/audio

· Explore fonts and how to adjust them

Sound and videos will be covered in this topic with focus on how to:

· How to add audio?

· Choosing the right part of a track?

· How to add a video?

· How to crop a video?
