Why take this class?

First impressions are important. They are often based on your social media bio, online profile, website or the first line of your resume or introductory email. That’s why it’s so vital that this copy works hard for your brand.

Your time is important too! Stop spending hours writing and re-writing your bios or about page – only to be dissatisfied with the result. In just 15 minutes, you can write an engaging and authentic statement that perfectly encapsulates your brand mission.

As a full-time, professional copywriter, I’m paid to write promotional copy that increases sales, builds customer engagement, and achieves marketing goals. So I know what works.

Who this class is for

You don’t need any special writing skills or experience to take this class, just an appetite to tell your story.

Not confident writing in English? No problem. The technique I’ll share with you today follows a step-by-step formula that will ensure your mission statement is clear, concise and grammatically correct.

More advanced writer? Excellent! The beauty of the formula is its versatility – once you’ve got the basics in place, you can expand and polish your mission statement until it’s as unique and characterful as your brand.

What you’ll need

Download the Mission Statement Worksheet before you start the class. The worksheet contains prompts and ideas to guide you through each lesson, so you’ll find it useful to have it nearby to refer to.

I recommend writing your mission statement step-by-step as you take the lessons, so you’ll need something to write with and on. You might also find it useful to have existing bios or profiles handy – both your own and those of others you find inspiring.

Take a look at my Example Project too – I’ve included 12 examples of mission statements for different personal and business brands to inspire you.

Next steps

This class is designed as a perfect partner to my 15-Minute Tagline class. Together, they give you two essential brand tools: your big-picture mission statement (the foundation of what you stand for) and your short, memorable tagline (the line that sells your brand at a glance). You can take them in either order, depending on whether you’d like to start with the bigger story or the quick one-liner.
