Want to give your lettering some extra dimension? In this quick and focused Procreate class, you’ll learn how to take an existing piece of 2D lettering and transform it into 3D lettering using a simple, repeatable technique.

We’ll first break down the basic visual concept behind creating the illusion of depth, then I’ll walk you through my Procreate 3D lettering workflow step by step. Finally, we’ll play with different extrusion directions, angles and depths to see how the same lettering and the same process can create completely different 3D effects.

Who is this class for?

This class is perfect for lettering artists, illustrators and creatives who already use Procreate and want to add another dimension to their work.

It is ideal that you have a basic familiarity with Procreate and know how to create or import lettering, but you don’t need any previous experience with 3D lettering. You can follow along using your own lettering as the starting point, or my practice lettering provided in the class resources.

Why is this class useful?

Learning how to create the illusion of 3D gives you a simple way to make your lettering more eye-catching and dynamic. Once you understand the underlying concept, you can experiment with different directions, angles and depths to create anything from subtle dimensional lettering to bold, dramatic effects.

The technique can be applied to lettering for illustrations, posters, social media graphics, greeting cards, logos and more.

Why learn from me?

I’m a lettering artist and illustrator who loves finding simple ways to make lettering more expressive and dimensional. I’ve taught this 3D lettering concept in both traditional and digital mediums, and in this class I’ve distilled it into a quick, approachable Procreate workflow you can start using right away.

Your class project: Take a piece of 2D lettering and transform it into 3D, then experiment with different extrusion directions and depths to create your own variations.

See you in class :)
