Do you dream of keeping a beautiful sketchbook — but struggle with consistency or don’t know where to start? In this class, we’ll build a simple, sustainable daily sketching habit using nature as our inspiration. From leaves and flowers to little found treasures, you’ll learn to slow down, observe, and draw mindfully, one page at a time.
Whether you're a total beginner or a seasoned artist wanting to reconnect with your sketchbook, this course will help you:
-
Set up a sketchbook practice you can stick with
-
Develop observational drawing skills with botanical subjects
-
Find beauty in the everyday through nature journaling
-
Embrace imperfection and enjoy the process
- Building a sketchbook full of drawings you can use for your final illustrations
-
Ideas on how to use your sketchbook to create instagram reels and posts
By the end of the class, you’ll not only have pages filled with beautiful botanical sketches — you’ll have the momentum to keep going, every day.

Hello, I'm Valeria.
I'm an Italian illustrator and surface designer. I moved in New York City in 2016, with my husband and my little doggy Olivia. (And after a few years my son was born!).

Class Project: Share Your Botanical Sketchbook Progress
Now it's your turn! For this class project, I’d love for you to upload a few pages from your sketchbook to share your drawings and celebrate your progress.
Creating and sharing a class project can be a great way to stay committed to your daily sketching habit — think of it as a gentle milestone, not a pressure point. Sometimes having a small deadline or knowing someone’s cheering you on is just what we need to stay motivated!
There’s no need for perfection — just pick a few of your favorite pages. You can follow a theme, like sketching leaves or flowers, or mix it up and simply share the drawings you’re most proud of.
What to Upload:
-
2 to 5 pages from your botanical sketchbook
-
A short note about your process or what you enjoyed
-
Optional: share your personal goal (like 7 pages in 7 days or 1 doodle a day for 30 days)
Whether you’re just getting started or wrapping up a full month of daily drawing, I can’t wait to see what you’ve created. Upload your images right here in the project section and let me know how it went — I’d love to hear about your experience!
You can see an example I posted here for inspiration!
Stay Connected & Share Your Progress!
I’d love to see your sketches beyond Skillshare, too! If you’re sharing your drawings or progress on social media, feel free to tag me @Valeria Frustaci Illustrator and use the hashtag #BotanicalSketchbookHabit
It’s a great way to stay motivated, connect with other students, and grow your creative community. And don’t forget to follow me on Instagram for more sketchbook inspiration, drawing tips, and behind-the-scenes peeks!
