Über diesen Kurs
In my new class, I’ll guide you step by step through creating a sweet and vibrant heart-shaped lollipop food illustration using alcohol-based markers.
We’ll start by talking about the materials you'll need — from markers and paper to additional tools that can enhance your illustrations and help you get better results.
Next, we’ll cover some essential marker techniques, including smooth gradients and tonal variation. I’ll also show you how to use a white pencil and gel pen for highlights and finishing touches.
Then, we’ll go through the complete drawing process — from a light pencil sketch to a fully colored and detailed candy illustration.
This class is perfect for total beginners, or anyone looking to try new techniques like creating shiny candy textures or simply relax and enjoy a fun creative process.
I’ll be using alcohol-based markers, but feel free to use your favorite tools — whether that’s watercolors, colored pencils, or a mix. You can even change the shape of the candy to match your own style! The goal is to experiment, enjoy the process, and create a sweet final result you’ll be proud of.
So grab your markers, and let’s get started!

Hello everyone! My name is Anna Ostapenko, and I'm a Ukrainian artist traveling the world. My adventures and the places I visit inspire my art--I've explored over 40 countries so far!
Through my watercolors, I show the beauty of nature--tender flowers, amazing, breathtaking landscapes, and peaceful seascapes. Each painting is a way to share the places that inspire me and the feelings they leave behind.
I also enjoy working with markers, especially when creating bright, playful illustrations like candies and desserts--it's a fun way to explore color and texture in a completely different style.
Here on Skillshare, I'm excited to share everything I've learned along the way--from watercolor techniques and color mixing to marker basics, composition, and finding your own ... Vollständiges Profil ansehen
Praxisnahes Kursprojekt
With this class, I invite you to sketch and color a sweet heart-shaped lollipop using just 5 alcohol-based markers.
We’ll start with a few simple warm-up exercises to practice smooth washes, layering, and blending. Then we’ll move on to the main illustration — from a light pencil sketch to building color, adding texture, and finishing with details like highlights and shadows to make the candy look shiny and realistic.
You can follow the project exactly as I show it, or personalize it by playing with colors or experimenting with different shapes!
Once you've finished your artwork, I’d love for you to share it in the Projects & Resources section. Show us your delicious lollipop and let me know how it went! What was your favorite part? Did you learn something new?
Let’s fill the gallery with sweet and colorful creations!
Materials Needed:
-
Alcohol-based markers – You only need 5 (I use copic markers RV11, R27, C1, C3, C5):
1 light pink or light red
1 bright red
3 shades of gray (light, medium, and dark)
-
Paper – I recommend smooth marker paper or bristol paper. I’ll be using a sketchbook made for markers. Avoid watercolor paper or any textured paper — it absorbs too much ink and can damage your marker tips over time.
-
Pencil and eraser – Any regular pencil, plus a kneaded eraser (optional) for lightening the sketch before coloring.
-
White pencil or white gel pen – For adding soft highlights and final details.
Optional but helpful:
-
Scrap paper – For testing your markers or practicing strokes before the final piece.
Let’s draw some candy magic together!
