In this beginner-friendly class, you’ll learn how to design and illustrate your own cute monster characters from scratch. Whether you’re new to drawing or just want a fun creative project, this workshop will guide you through the process step by step.
You’ll explore:

By the end of the class, you’ll have a finished illustration of your own original cute monster character — and the skills to create even more!
This class is perfect for beginners, hobby artists, or anyone looking for a playful way to practice character design. You can follow along using Procreate, traditional materials, or any digital drawing tool you prefer.

Praxisnahes Kursprojekt
For your class project, you’ll create your own original cute monster character using the steps from the class!
You can choose to sketch just one monster or design a whole group — it’s completely up to you. Focus on applying what you've learned about shape, proportion, personality, and linework to bring your monster to life.
To complete your project:

Brainstorm a concept for your cute monster - create a Mind Map

Fill a blank canvas with random silhouettes and choose the one(s) that you like the best.

Sketch out the monster based on the chosen silhouettes - feel free to change things as you go!

Finalise your character with clean lines, color, shading and texture - follow my illustration technique or apply your own!

(Optional) Add a background, name, or fun personality traits!
You can work digitally in Procreate or any drawing app, or use traditional tools like pencil and markers.
When you're done:
Upload your final illustration to the Project Gallery. Feel free to share your sketches, your creative process, or even name and describe your character. I’d love to see your monsters and leave feedback!
