About This Class

63f36361

Creative Writing often starts in a hot bubble of enthusiasm. We can't wait to pour those words onto the page! But did you know, writers make mistakes they're often not even aware of?

My class is designed to equip you with the key technical tips you need to avoid plunging into those mistakes which will cost you time and effort later on and slow you down. These come from experience, not only from me but other successful fiction authors who wished they'd had the lowdown when they started out.

Here's what we'll cover:

UNIT 1 - WRITING

1. Head Hopping - what it means and why it matters.

2. Cliches - and other no-nos or "not necessarilies".

3. Unsatisfying Endings - or "Is this as good as it gets?"

4.Changing tenses - unconscious time-slip.

5. Purple Prose.

UNIT 2 - PRESENTATION

6. Spelling and Grammar Mistakes.

7. Formatting - sending your manuscript out for an interview.

8. How not to contact literary agents.

9. Not My Genre!

10. Wind up and Summary.

This is a quick little class full of useful information, but it probably should've been titled "9 Creative Writing Howlers to Avoid". Looking forward to checking out more.

About My Classes

My mission is to help you feel more confident about your writing. I'm not here to tell you whether your writing is "good" or "bad", but to help you conquer doubt, improve your creativity.

My longer classes include practical advice and writing tools.

My shorter classes are about getting you to think, peel back the layers, think out of the box, and any other cliché you'd like to add. I want to help you sharpen your focus, strengthen your resolve and ask questions like "Why do they do it like this?", "What made this writer successful?"

If you have a question you'd like answered in a class, please post it up in a discussion.

You will only find classes by me on Skillshare. I don't publish to other platforms, so make sure you get your Premium Membership. Ping the @Free_Skillshare twitter account, and keep checking in to Skillshare free classes by all teachers. You'll get the special deal: 3 months for 99c. How's that for a bargain?
