About This Class

Make a strong (and original) sports wordmark! In this class, you'll learn a process for taking your ideas from the sketchbook to a finished design in Illustrator. Work with letters and shapes to craft a wordmark that supports any sports branding package, and add dynamic elements to make it pop. If you're looking for a fresh way to make your mark -- whether you're an illustrator, graphic artist, or just someone interested in learning a new process -- this is the class for you.

Growing up in a small town in Northeastern Colorado, I grew up loving sports and loving art. My art started as barely-recognizable scribbles of Ghostbusters and Ninja Turtles, but as I grew older, the subject matter became more refined. My Dad and I would often drive 100 miles one-way to catch a game in Denver. Once I stepped foot in the stadium, I was sold. While “Plan A” was always to become a professional athlete, I quickly discovered that wasn’t an option and decided sports design was the path for me.

I graduated from the University of Northern Colorado in 2008, and my first gig out of college was pushing carts around a Walmart parking lot. But, I persevered and worked a few different jobs while freelancing on the side until I landed my first official job designing for a non-profit for 4 1/2 years. I currently work as a graphic designer for Kroenke Sports & Entertainment.

I hang my hat in the Denver area with my wife, Stephanie, and our furry kids, Scout and Boone.
