About This Class

Sketch, design, and create a beautifully illustrated and hand lettered drawing of your favorite inspirational phrase to be made into a card or art print.

Welcome! My name is Emily Cromwell and I am an artist and illustrator who loves to draw and create hand lettered designs! In this class, I will be sharing how to use Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop to transform your hand drawn illustration and hand lettered drawing into a beautiful and colorful vector design that can be made into a card or art print. I provide you with easy to follow step-by-step instructions that make this class perfect for all designers, illustrators, and hand letterers that are either wanting to expand their skills or are just beginning their creative journey!

Throughout the class, I will be sharing my own personalized tips for how to start off any hand lettered project, my favorite materials to use to hand letter and illustrate, and how to plan your illustration from start to finish.

What You Will Learn

I will be teaching you my creative process from start to finish, providing you with tips and tricks that I have learned throughout my time as an illustrator. We will cover:

  • Brainstorming. Research and brainstorm some ideas for your hand lettered inspirational phrase and what you can illustrate to best reflect that phrase.
  • Sketching. Sketch out your ideas first by making thumbnails and then pick your favorite and sketch it out full size first by pencil, and then trace over that with an artist pen.
  • Digitizing. Scan or take a well-lit photo of your sketch and transfer it onto your computer where it will be turned into a workable vector in Adobe Illustrator.
  • Designing. Arrange and add color to your design.

-Artist pens (I use Faber-Castell or Pigma Micron)
-Sketching or Drawing Paper
-Scanner or Ipad/Phone/Camera
-Adobe Illustrator
-Adobe Photoshop
