About This Class

The GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP) is a free software tool that runs on Windows, Mac OS and Linux platforms.  You can use this free graphics tool to create sophisticated imagery similar to that produced using the much pricier Photoshop product.

In this introductory GIMP for beginners your instructor, Brian Jackson, will lead you through the following steps to get you up and running on the Windows 10 operating system using the GIMP:

  • GIMP Installation and Configuration on Windows 10
  • Starting and Stopping the GIMP and the Standard Window Layout
  • Creating Sophisticated Logos and Headers with Ease
  • Creating Basic Web Graphics Simplified using Panning and Zooming
  • Capturing and Cropping Screen Shots and Saving and Exporting Your Work

Note: All but the Windows 10 configuration section in the second lesson should apply to all operating system installations of the GIMP.

This course lays a solid foundation for later courses on creating book covers, web graphics and memes using the GIMP.  And it does it all in under half-an-hour.  Not only that, but you'll also produce some nice graphics in the class project that you can reuse in other projects.

I'll be waiting for you in the classroom,

So glad someone with so much experience is finally teaching GIMP! Thank you!
The instructor makes sure you understand what he is trying to teach you. There are NO STUPID QUESTIONS!!! Everybody has their own learning curve. So if you do not understand something - ASK A Question(s). I viewed and re-viewed each lesson more than a few times as I have dyslexia and I was still able to get the projects in a timely manner.

Brian Jackson

Born in Los Angeles in the middle of the last century, I have always wanted to be a writer. After twenty-five some odd years spent working in the computer industry in the heart of the Silicon Valley, first for Lockheed as a Systems Programmer and later for Cisco Systems as a test tool developer, I managed to retire early and begin my next career as a self-published author.

Along with writing and publishing my own novels I also publish the works of my wife, Melanie Jackson. During the past four years I’ve published well over 100 books in paperback and eBook formats. Oddly enough this includes eBooks on how to self-publish books and how to create professional looking book covers using the GIMP. I’ve also recorded and distributed a pair of audiobooks available for purchase on Amazon and Audible. Finally, I spend a portion of my time maintaining both my website and my wife’s website, which was developed using WordPress.

My last endeavor, begun in July of 2014, was to record training courses for distribution via Udemy. My goal was to provide low cost high quality screen cast based educational material focusing on my area of expertise; namely, self-publishing and book cover design using the GIMP. I then expanded my catalog to cover Web page development and Udemy course preparation.

My new goal is to begin recording custom material for distribution on SkillShare!!!

I currently live in the beautiful California wine country with my wife, published author Melanie Jackson, and Butterscotch the cat.
