About This Class

I’ve recently turned my passion for typography and travel into a new hobby: sign hunting. This class is for beginners interested in typography, signage from by-gone eras, city-trotting and hobby photography.

Students will be introduced to a brief history of typography and learn how to scout the best locations to discover oft-ignored signs and found type artifacts. They will use their photos as inspiration for the design of their class project: a set of trade cards, which can be shared with classmates, friends and family.

Khara Woods

Graphic Designer

Hi, my name is Khara Woods and I am a graphic designer. I specialize in print design and most recently hand-lettering. I also have a smattering of experience in web design, mostly of the front-end variety. Since 2009 I have worked as a designer, either in-house or as a freelancer. A few of my clients include: Collage dance Collective, ArtsMemphis, Broad Avenue Arts District.

When I’m not designing I moonlight as a professional sign hunter. If you see me in the middle of the street snapping pictures of a cool weathered sign, please don’t hit me!
