About This Class

In this class we will be:

  • Choosing a subject portrait
  • Designing a stencilin in adobe Illustrator
  • Making our design come to life in the real world

One of the advantages of stencil design is that you can then take your design and apply it to any surface you choose. In this case I'll be making a shirt but I encourage you to think of diferent mediums to paint on.

This class requires some basic knowledge of Illustrator* and screen or stencil printing.

I you want to learn the basics of screen printing I recomend Leitha Matz's introductory class here on skill share and Leita's advanced class covers in depth great screen printing techniques. There is also or Doug Vander Meulen's master class that covers pretty much everything you need to know as far as printing goes.

This class will focus more on how to easily create your stencils from a photograph.

We will be going from this:

To this:

*if you don't have acces to Illustrator but are still interested in the class, let me know and I'll guide you in way you can achieve similar results using different techniques

River of All Trades

What is a River of All Trades?

Well... people usually call me River because of my last name... and being a Jack of All Trades is kind of my specialty. So I describe miself as a River of All Trades, after all my name is not Jack!

I started working as a camp counselor at the age of 16, now at 29 and as a camp director I can honestly say that I have mastered a peculiarly diverse set of skills.

If you, or anyone you know, has been to camp or a been member of the Boy Scouts, you know that being able to learn new skills constantly and being prepared to switch to the teaching side of the skill quickly, kind of comes with the job.

So I joined SkillShare not only to learn but also to teach. I'll start building from what I know best: Camping!

But camping is not really about being outdoors and having adventures. I mean it is that but it is also planning ahead, being creative, solving constant and ever evolving problems, being able to improvise on demand and more importantly learning by having fun.

So if you want to have fun & you want to learn at the same time join me. And if you are a fun loving teacher then invite my to join you... I'm always looking for new oportunities to learn new things!

Luis is a Camp Director with many skills that loves having fun and learning/teaching.

Join him in one of his clases for a good productive and memorable laugh.
