About This Class

I have been obsessed with Cacti & Succulents since I was a small girl.  I love the structure and shape, and the magnificent unexpected blooms that appear often at night.  It was only a matter of time that I would make them from felt.  Join me in this workshop to create your own Cactus whilst learning multi-ribbed resist technique.  This method of making resists will change the way you think about 3D felt making, and we’ll learn interesting things about Cacti along the way!

Skills to be covered

  • Resist and template theory & design
How to makie a 3D object without any stitching plus best practices and materials to use.
  • Complex wool laying
In situ versus prelaid techniques and uses.
  • A variety of felting methods,
There are as many ways to make felt as there felters!

Skill level
All welcome as long as you know how to make felt. If not enrol in my Make Felt 3 Ways for free.

Class Project
Make a beautiful Barrel Cactus in one piece from wool, or change up the colour scheme and make a gorgeous sculpture using the same technique.

Resources provided in the Project:

  • Workspace practices
  • Materials list
  • The 3 stages of felting
  • Shrinkage Rates

Soosie Jobson

Felt Artist, Teacher, Author & Historian

I’m Soosie Jobson a Fremantle based, felt & textile artist, author and historian. I have been an Educator for 30 years holding a Bachelor of Education, and have taught all kinds of things in the business and tech world but now I love to teach creative arts.  The path through my creative life has taken me through many different media, but my main love is felting.

For the past 15 years I have dabbled with all forms of felting winning awards and prizes along the way, but I always come back to the sculptural side which is perfectly paired with some of my other obsessions; Coral Reefs, and Cactus Gardens to name a of few.

My website has galleries of my work and more of my “how to” ebooks for sale.
