About This Class
Improve Your Ink Drawing with Hatching Techniques is about creating confident lines with control to express unique tones or patterns in your drawings and illustrations. Although aimed at beginners, this class is useful for building skill or getting out of a rut at any level.
There are three projects in this class.
First, you'll create a Pen Personality reference sheet. Then, using a grid, you’ll practice linear hatching, crosshatching, and contour mark-making by creating a Hatching Patchwork. Finally, using your new, ink hatching confidence, experiment with layering lines and combining marks to create unique textures and effects, perhaps using mixed media.

The class showed me the importance of hatching as an essential skill and how daily practice can be built up in ways that are fun.
Jen Dixon works mostly in mixed media abstract and figurative painting. She is also an illustrator, writer, and teaches life-drawing. Originally from Indiana, she now lives in a village on the North Cornwall coast of England.
Having led her first drawing classes at the age of six, she continued with art throughout her school days by selling portraits and sign-painting for local businesses. She taught art to young teens before achieving a degree in Industrial Design from The Art Institute of Pittsburgh.
Jen has worked as a muralist, corporate display artist for former national retail giant Musicland Group (US), and a commissions painter. She tutors regularly from her studio, and her art hangs in private collections around the world.
