About This Class
Throughout my many years of running businesses, I have been fortunate to experience success both as an entrepreneur and investor. I’ve learned that some people are well suited to be entrepreneurs, and others aren’t. Unfortunately, in most cases, it takes a lot of time, energy, and money to find out on which side of that coin you fall.
I created this class on Skillshare to help you determine your worth as an entrepreneur and to help you position your business and concept for success. It's a hurdle, but I know that the knowledge I've gained through my years of experience in business will point you in the right direction on your entrepreneurial path.
This class is for aspiring entrepreneurs, anyone with a business idea who hesitated to act, and those who have begun the process of starting their business but can't seem to get over the hump.
What You'll Learn
I have assembled lessons, lists, and resources for you to determine the next steps you need to take in order to realize your dream as an entrepreneur.
- Characteristics of Great Entrepreneurs. Entrepreneurs are special. . . but what makes them different? What makes them successful? How you can repackage yourself to follow your entrepreneurial dream?
- Starting your Business. Definine your customer, determine price, and understand your competitive landscape.
- Identifying What Makes your Business Special. Create a competitive edge and weave that into your PR story. Differentiate yourself from the pack!
- Innovative Business Practices from the Start. Encourage new ideas from your employees and stay flexible despite growth.
- Pitching your Business. Present your business, and yourself, in ways that excite VCs.
To further you along the path to entrepreneurial success, you will create a video pitch that promotes your business concept. By uploading your pitch, you will get feedback and high fives from the other students in the class. This is a valuable platform for community approval and critique. . . we will all craft better pitches because of each other! My team and I will review the top 20 most up-voted pitches and select our favorite. This talented student will receive a 30-minute video call and mentoring session with me, and I will share his or her pitch through my social media networks to get worldwide exposure for the concept.
Project: Create a 1-minute video "elevator" pitch for you and your business.
Brief: Based on the lessons in this class and the goal of answering the question "why is your business special?" as quickly as possible, create a 1-minute video pitch that represents you and your business.
Specs: You will upload a video link (Vimeo or Youtube) to your student project tab in the Skillshare classroom. Anything longer than 1 minute WILL NOT be eligible for the contest.

Sometimes it struck me as a little obvious but, when you really look at how many failing businesses might benefit from a little time with these videos, it's easy to see where she's coming from. I like her presentation style and it certainly felt like these were helpful building blocks and videos I would revisit as I build my own business.
