1. Intro. Who am I? What is this?: I'm any wood. Welcome to Zen and the art of creating. Who am I anyway? Okay, here's a little bit about I am a Hollywood California native. I'm a lifelong actress. TV film voiceover I was the host of the dating game show Buzz Back in the Day and nationally syndicated show Guest on The Tonight Show. Good Times. I'm also a writer, a screenwriter, playwright, author, have three books coming out published by speaking volumes. If you're interested in learning about those that follow me on anyone dot com, you can sign up for my block. What else? Oh, I'm an emerging artist. This just got back from Venice, Italy, with my first solo show called Beautiful Imperfections. That was true, but literally was a trip because I had to go there. No, it was awesome. I'm also in addition to all that stuff, really in to mindfulness and then on calling the mind. I am a certified yoga meditation teacher. I have taken the mindfulness be stress reduction class twice and many other things, power of awareness and all sorts of courses, and just a lifelong yogi and meditator many, many, many people I need tell me they cannot meditate. It's impossible. Reminds. You're too busy. What thing is all of our minds too busy? It's the job of the mind to think, Think, think, think that's that's what minds do. It's not impossible to get. Calm down. Yeah, you could do it. And it's amazing what happens when you practice and practice and practice calming Just things open up for you And you find that instead of reacting to things in life, you respond. It feels really, really. And believe me, I talk fast. I think fast. I bet there are months passed a little bit. And imagine if I didn't have a date. So I'm gonna teach you with very short one minute meditations. And I'm also gonna attach on original meditation that I created and recorded for you. Eight minutes. I think it's eight minutes as a guided meditation. If you rather hear kind of like a story, go through that you can do that. That's a free bonus just for you. So what is then on the art of creating anyway? What are you going to do in this class? And he would You may be asking me. Well, this class is really about learning to find your chill so you can find your thrill. I really do enjoy Ryan. What? I was gonna say. Good. Ryan, That doesn't even have to be good, right? Just arrived. No. Hey, this is mostly about self exploration and fun. We're gonna break through blocks using our exercises. Each class will end with an assignment. Will be art or journaling designed to get to know yourself better. And Teoh break and create. Great, great cause we love to be in the zone. Don't. We were sitting down doing nothing. Being in the zone feels so good. It feels like we're so on track. It feels so right. So I want that. I want that for everyone to feel that. And it'll be fun getting there. So yeah, this class really is not so much about what you create. It's that you create. So join me. So I leave you with my three keeps. Keep creating. Keep positive. Keep showing up. See you in class. 2. Rejection: I told you a little bit about some of my accomplishments in the intro video because I wanted you to get to know me a little bit better, and I was kind of giving you a little mini resume, as it were. So that's not the place where one usually talks about rejections. You don't put your nose in a resume, but you should know. But I've had a lot of knows when you're following your inner voice. Stores tend to eventually open for you, even if they mostly slam at first rejection after rejection after rejection. And the numbers keep on coming, too. By the way, that's the thing. When you're pursuing a creative life, it comes with the territory. There will be rejection. A rejection is nothing more than a necessary step in the pursuit of success. But there will be yes, is as well. So it's not so much No, was that we get. It's our reaction to these noes. Do we let these knows derail us? Is it like a punch in the gut with every rejection email? Worst of all, do these rejections make you doubt yourself? Do they make you stop creating? Let's get artsy. Okay, We're gonna make heart art. So who's we're gonna do? Print out a rejection email that you may have received or simply right out us a rejection that somebody has verbally given you write it on paper. And when you have that paper, like, I happen to have a few actually emails? Uh, it's funny. The word. Unfortunately, all I had to do was go into my mail and search for the word. Unfortunately, Yeah. So that's how that works. Unfortunately, and you didn't book this one, they decided to go in another way. Do any What? Unfortunately, your script is not advancing to the next round. Thank you for applying. Unfortunately, not include your work in the upcoming show. Okay. It's totally okay. So what? Oh, so this is what you're gonna do? You're just gonna tear up into big pieces, little pieces, any kind of peace you want, and once you have your pile of this is very satisfying. I want, like, I feel like you think. Well, once you have the pieces, we're going to glue them my pleasure or just any kind of glued onto, Uh, that's nice. Card stock is a nice idea. we're gonna glue them on. And they were gonna paint over it. I think I might spray. You could try whatever kind of life you can add glitter to do whatever you want. And then when it's dry, we're gonna cut it into the shape of a heart. Okay, let's get visit. Enjoy making your heart art. And I hope it served as a reminder that your heart is not really broken. It is forever Creating is beautiful. It iss un stop knows Don't break you unless you let him keep creating Keep positive, keep showing up. 3. It's Great to Meditate!: the first time I meditated, I was about 10 years old. I was in an acting class and the acting teacher had us all laid down. Close your eyes, breathe slowly and evenly and just focus on the sounds that we heard. The car is outside, the birds chirping, the other kids breathing, the air conditioning running. She told us not to have any opinion about these. Like, it's not about whether you like the air conditioning running or not. It's not about any kind of story about where the car is going. It's just noticing. Just noticing the sounds, one sound you notice and the next one you notice We did this for 10 minutes. By the end of the 10 minutes, I remember feeling so calm and relaxed, but not in a way that I wanted to go to sleep just in a way, that was something I wasn't used to, because I was kind of Spazio 10 year old. So this is kind of a little miracle to me. Inner stillness is the key to outer strength. People are always telling me that they can't meditate, that they're too busy and their minds are too busy. Uh, What these people may not know is that that's exactly what everyone says, because in a way it's true because our minds are busy and we are busy. The job of the mind is to think, and it does it sometimes out over time. If it weren't for my mind, my meditation would be excellent. But often the people who say that they're too busy to meditate I needed the most. You should sit in meditation for 20 minutes every day. Unless you're too busy. Then you should sit for an hour. Meditation does not have to be complicated. It's simply a matter of Julian practicing it and making it happen. There are many different kinds of meditation. There's there's N t M guided imagery, mindfulness meta practice. There's just so much after I know it can be overwhelming, but what we're gonna do is really simple. We're gonna dio one minute, focusing on the breath meditation, maybe barking dogs. There may be some distractions. Try to sit in a room where will be less, but if there are distractions, it's a great opportunity to come back to your breath. That's your focus back to the breath, with no judgment No, I can't believe distracted by this or I'm mad at that sound. Forget all that. Let that go. No judgment. Quit being so self judgy. One of the keys, the meditation is releasing all self judgment. Thoughts will arise. That's okay. Just notice them gently and then bring your focus back to your breath. That's super important. So this is what we're gonna do. Sit up straight, Palms face one another. We're gonna breathe in through our nose and pull their hands apart. Now, when we breathe in through our nose, our bellies expand. Let's try that again. Then when we breathe out through our mouths, we put our hands in closer. It'll equipments. You can close your eyes or you can watch your poems. We do this for one minute together. Amusing insight, timer. Uh, snap. But I really like call. Put a link in the notes so you can get the app if you like. And there will be a bell at the end of one minute when you hear the bell, place your hands together and listen until you can't hear any piece of that sound anymore. Listen all the way through that set. Last sounding Okay, this is one minute you could do this. It's only one minute. Here we go. So in my Etsy shop, I have a section called Positive Prince. It's posters and prints that I've created through my drawings that have affirmations on them. I love what I call affirmation art. Check out my Etsy shop. It's called Good Vibes by Anne would. Let's get artsy some supplies pen, pencil, paper paints and or colored pencils and pens. So that's what we're gonna do today. I didn't get your paper. Draw a circle in the center of the paper and write your information in the center. I suggest I am calm. I am peaceful. I am happy or I have the power to calm my mind. I hope you enjoyed this class. I hope you found it useful. I encourage you to go online and search for different kinds of medications and see what works for you. I have included a link to some meditations and some more information about the benefits of meditation. Also, I recorded and wrote a guided imagery. It's about seven minutes. You can find that in the show notes as well and block posts. What I wrote about mindfulness for the Huffington Post when I was a guest blogger. So I hope you find all of this useful and I can't wait to see you in the next class. Keep creating, keep positive, keep showing up. 4. Heart Yourself: all love starts with self love. I think the most important relationship we have is the one that we have with ourselves. I'm gonna be with me for the rest of my life, so I may as well get to know me. And I may as well get to love me on this sacred path of radical acceptance. Rather than striving for perfection, we discover how to love ourselves into wholeness from radical acceptance by Terra Brock. I realize that some people struggle with the idea of self care and self love. Maybe in the past you were taught that that kind of attention to yourself met your selfish , vain or conceited. I'm gonna tell you right now that is not true. Story loving yourself does not mean you think you're better than anyone else. It simply means that you appreciate and acknowledge your own self worth. You really have to love yourself to get anything done in this world. When you truly love yourself, there is a confidence and a strength that you possess that guides you in your life in positive directions, making you better company for yourself and for all those around you. I made you a self care list. One. Have a dance party for one in your living room to make yourself cookies. Eat cookies. Three. Watch your favorite movies Solo talk back to the screen. Four. Watch the sunset. Don't post a picture of it anywhere. Just enjoy. Five. Take a time out with a coloring book. Pens your favorite music. Six. Go to the park, Swing on the swings. Let many you out. Seven. Make a list or create a Pinterest board of all the places you want will travel to Hey, Roger Bicycle. Go for a walk in your hood as if you're new in town, observed with new eyes. Nine. Maker makes me happy playlist Sing loudly. 10. Meditate. We could be so mean to ourselves. Sometimes the things that we tell ourselves. I can't say that I'm so stupid. I look terrible today. I have no talent. Whatever mean? Think you're telling yourself Quit. Just quit. I mean, you wouldn't say those things to your best friend. You wouldn't say those things. Your boyfriend, your girlfriend, not even to your pet. So why are you saying those things to yourself? It is not helping you. So the next time a mean thing pops up in your mind. Just stop it, pause and say, Hey, you know what? No. You know what? You're doing just fine. When in doubt, write it out. That's right. Right. And encouraging letter to your 10 year old self, right, Demeaning you about all the things you love about them, about the things that make you proud of who they are and who they're becoming. And take that letter, put it in an envelope. Keep it somewhere handy so you can refer to it when you're feeling like maybe you don't got you back because you know you do. You got your back low. Self esteem is like driving through life with your hand brake on Keep creating, keep positive, keep showing up. 5. Fear and Focus: we humans are really trip. We're a piece of work. Don't get me wrong. I love humans, humans on my species. But we do have a tendency to overthink and to make things a little more difficult than they need to be. We have a thought. We immediately believe it to be true, but we don't have to believe everything. We think we have a lot of thoughts. They're not all winners. We can pick and choose. We have that power lots of times is negative beliefs and thoughts of those those really are just fueled by fear. That's fear rearing its ugly head. And what is fear? A lot more than anything, our attention just like a troll. What do we do? We don't give it our attention. Instead, we switch focus with focus on something else. What do we focus on? Fear is the cheapest room in the house. I would like to see you living in better conditions. Let's get artsy supplies, pen, pencil and paper, optional collage clippings and some paint right. Good stuff on the top of your page. Then fill the page up with drawings, words, collage clippings, off images of the good stuff that's currently in your life. Bigger, small, A few or many. It's up to you. If you'd like to share your creation, I would love to see it. Please upload it to the project. And if you have any questions, feel free to ask. I will be checking. 6. Play! Yay!: Here's the thing We all get caught up in our oh so serious grown up lives. We strive for things, try to make things happen. We forget something that is so crucial to our joy. What? We're here on this planet. Something little Kids are very wise to importance of fun that need to play. One more thing. There's no perfection. Okay, There just isn't Stop obsessing about it. Well, I'll be happier. I'll tell you what there is that your unique also, miss. Let's get artsy and make altered magazine art supplies a magazine pains, glue stick. Anything else you like to play with? Okay, so here's what We're going to grab magazine, any magazine. There's a vanity fair Flip through it and flipping flipping. Doesn't matter what image, anything that strikes you. I'm gonna pull this one out here, all right? This is gonna be my canvas, and I'm gonna paint on it. Blue things on it. Anything you want.
