Project Description

Create a unique line of animal portraits inspired by your dog

ASSIGNMENT

Your assignment is to create a distinctive series of animal portraits, using your very own pet as inspiration. You can work in any medium, from painting to collage to digital illustration. Beginners are welcome! Expand your creative comfort zone while you learn how to choose the best reference photographs, create a values sketch, and craft a cohesive “look” that connects your portraits thematically. If you like, you can follow along with me to create digital collage portraits using fun, colorful textures. You can grow your final project into a full line of prints or launch a custom pet portrait business. Plus you’ll have a meaningful collection of images that pay homage to your favorite pet!

DELIVERABLE

Upload three completed animal portraits. They can be any shape and size, and any medium you choose, but they must:

- be thematically connected, and
- include at least one animal in each image.

MATERIALS

If you would like to follow my approach in digital collage, you'll need some materials in addition to the basic stuff outlined in the Introduction:
- pen/ink
- scanner
- Photoshop

That covers it! Feel free to ask questions in the Discussion area.

CONTEST

The student project with the most likes after the first six months of class will receive a free custom pet portrait from me.
