1. Welcome to Your Home, Organized: Hi, I'm Rachel Rosenthal, and I wanted to welcome you to this course. I am so excited you're here before we jump into the information. I wanted to give you a little bit more backward information about myself and why I developed this course. So, first of all, I'm in organizing expert, and I've been in business since 2007 and since 2007 I've helped over 2500 clients get organized. And so that's not just getting their homes organized, but getting their lives organized time management and routine as well. I've been featured in over 70 publications, including things like Real Simple, Good Housekeeping and Martha Stewart. I've been able to work with people in the Washington D C area, which is where I'm based in all around the country. So I'm excited for you because this course is an opportunity, and one of the reasons I developed it is an opportunity for you wherever you are located, to learn how to get organized and getting organized. I'm hoping you no already or you're gonna find out at the end of this course is not just a one time event. It's a true way of life. So I'm excited. There's a ton of content in this course. Get your paper. Get your pencil. Get whatever you use your computer. I'm excited. Good luck and can't wait to hear how it goes. 2. Take Pause: What to Know Before Getting Started: welcome to Module one. Throughout this course, I'll be talking about organization, and each module following this one will focus on a specific area of the home before we get started and dive into the how to when it comes to getting organized. I wanted to take a couple of minutes to talk about the purpose of getting organized if you were here and listening to me. You've made the decision to get more organized. I'm glad that you are here and ready to take the necessary steps to creating a more organized home and life sound for you and your family. Let me preface what I'm about to share throughout this course by saying that my home is not always need, and I do believe there is a difference in being meat and organized. However, when life gets chaotic, that's my cue to take charge and insert some semblance of normalcy throughout the simple organization techniques that I put in place. I'm not aiming for Pinterest perfect ever. What I do want for myself and my family is a home that we can all enjoy together and overall, using organization not as a one time technique but creating an organized lifestyle to last . I'm not about spending more time on lining up ins, color quoting things and more. I'm about using organization to free up my time to allow me to spend things time on things that matter to me. Life is stressful enough to waste time doing that with our home. The aesthetic that results is based on our organization and systems. Even as a professional organizer, I've had to figure out what systems work best for my family, which has been through trial and error in some cases. And these systems have worked for us over the years because they are flexible and adaptable , which is perfect for kids because of their skills in dress and independence, which are constantly expanding in order to create a system that will be successful for you and your family. It's important to think about your needs. Identify how you and your Children use the spaces in your home and figure out what you want those areas to function and how you want them to function and how you want them to look. The thing is, at the end of the day, the physical clutter that surrounds us is just stuff items that we collect and shipped around and cause chaos in our homes were often than not. We all have too much of it and including myself in that generalisation. Not only can the weight of the physical carter around us start impacting us mentally, but how do we manage it all? You want your kids to have their toys to play with, but you don't want to be the one spending an hour each night cleaning up. You know you need to pay your bills and respond to invites, but the idea of using your rare free time to do those things it's just completely unappealing. Or maybe you worry that your Children will mess up. That time you put into creating what you thought was the perfect system or worse, you actually spend the time to get organized, and the after mention seen actually plays out. If this sounds like you do not worry, this is a very common situation that I'm faced with often throughout this course. I'm here to discuss the benefits of organization and how you can implement my tips into your own hope with minimal effort. Like you and many of you I wear many hats throughout the day between being a bomb, running a full 10 business and managing my team, plus keeping my house and personal well being a check. It feels like there's never enough time. We're always searching for time to add to our day. Clients always tell me that if they have more time, they could do X, y or Z, and I get it. I know that I can't change how many hours air in your day, but I can change what you could do with your environment where you spend her days. There are things that you can do throughout the day in the week that give you and me when I do this more time and more in control feeling apps control so that when the kids get home and you layer had done on the pillow, your minds are filled with clutter of due to the physical quarter around you. Have you ever come home and immediately felt your blood pressure rise? You been running around all day like a chicken with your head cut off your battling fatigue . Competing demands at your house looks like a bomb went off. This scenario alone stresses me out thinking about it in a recent study out of U. C. L. A. From that clutter can raise cortisol levels within the body, which could ultimately impact your well being. I found the adage. A cluttered home is a cluttered mind to be spot on when describing what life could be like from US busy households. The reverse also holds true, though, when your mind is scattered, the thought of keeping any sort of organization in your home is nearly impossible. I think my favorite chip comes in the form of my family command center, and I call actually the back one of my home. Without it, I probably lose my head if it weren't attached. Plus, it's something that the whole family is responsible for maintaining. So I don't feel like the burden fall squarely on my shoulders in module to we're going to talk about the organization back one of the heart. This is the area in the home where the entire family can find all the information that is needed to function as a well oiled machine 3. How to Create a Family Command Center: Welcome back. If you've ever felt overwhelmed by all the activities and events that your family has going on, this module is for you. I'm gonna be sharing tips on how to set up a family command center, a tool that I like to say is the organisational backbone of the home. I'm referring to a central hub that includes a family calendar, weekly menu planner, a filing system for each person's relevant documents and more okay. Command centers are low tech, high reward systems that will cut down on the time he spent coordinating everyone's busy schedules. Gone are the chaotic days of trying to guess who was soccer or violent practice or who needs he picked up early from school for a dental plate. Now you're gonna have one designated spot that you can check the night before. One of the things that I love about my command center is how it cuts down on countertop platter. Everything from permission slips to the latest art projects get the attention they deserve . No more paper messes. No more unsigned forms or lost bills. If you're not convinced yet on how effective the system is, you will be by the edge. I promise it. Before we jump in, we need to find the perfect spot for our command center. Find an empty wall space in your house that the family is sure to check on a daily basis, but that will be not in anyone's eyesore. Usually a spot in the kitchen, whether it's on a wall or on the back of a Cabinet, works well before you hang anything. You some blue, dangerous state to help position where you want your calendar to go and determine how much space it will actually take up. Then you're gonna leave enough room for other command center essentials that I'll be getting two very shortly in my home. I choosing to put our counter on the wall close to our family filing system, and more on that later, you're gonna want to keep it at a level that your Children can easily see. So for me, everyone in my house knows exactly the right spot to go where to find what's going on for the day after you've chosen the perfect spot for your calendar, make sure to set aside a nearby place for pens and markers so you can always have a writing instrument handy as small container of your favorite pens to the wall or on the countertop within arm's reach of your calendar. You're never gonna have to search again for something to capture all of their special events and appointments. When thinking about the family counter, you're gonna want to ask yourself a few basic questions. First, who needs access to the calendar? Is it you grandparent's nannies or other family members? And next? Does it make sense for your counter to be in a digital format as well? So let's talk about using a wall calendar. This is a quick and easy way for everyone in the house to know each other's whereabouts. A good rule of thumb is to assign a different color ink to represent each person in your family. You can also get creative with how you identify important events like birthdays and anniversaries. The kids will love being a part of this process. That way, all you need to do is glance at the calendar to know who's doing what. You can find counter options just about anywhere, including target, your local bookstore, staples, Amazon or even a printable version online to feature one month at a time, you can opt to set up a black word or a dry race counter for the techies out there who prefer digital calendars and apse. There's no shortage of great options to choose from. But I like you with Google Counter. These kinds of platforms are super convenient to keep everyone posted on your going on, including those who live outside the home. You can choose what to share with whom. Which is particularly nice feature when you want to keep people posted on important activities. But you don't want to share your entire calendar. If you're using a digital option, it's still a good idea to print a paper version of your digital calendar and posted to the well at the start of each week so that everyone has a hard copy to act as a quick reference point. Just be sure to update both versions as the week progresses. To keep everyone up to date before you post on your calendar, take a few minutes to update it with everything that's going on for the month. Don't forget to leave room for notes and a space for important phone numbers and erase a billboard or clip word would come in handy for this kind of information. Deciding what to make for lunches and dinners used to be such a hassle in our family. I was constantly rushing around to throw something together in the morning and way too tired to think about what to make for dinner, not to mention annoyed by having to make surprise trips to the grocery store when I didn't have everything. I need it. Meal practice got a lot easier when we implemented a meet weekly meal planner as part of our command center. For a low tech meal planning solution. Grab a sheet of paper and a set aside a block for each day of the week, leaving plenty of space under each day. Many stores have cute magnetic pads. The days already laid up plug in the meals you anticipate making allowed for a couple of days when you might be eating. Leftovers are going out. You could even get your kids that they're out. Suggestions, which could help alleviate mealtimes, struggles for those picky eaters in the family. Once you've mapped out what you want to make, check your fridge and pantry to see what you have on hand and the remaining ingredients, you will need to get the grocery store for each meal. For those who like using APS, there are some great menu planning tools out there, like plan to eat or pepper. Plate these abs to everything from organizing your favorite recipes to planning out your shopping. This and there you have it. No more cooking on the fly or buying ingredients you'll never use. You'll save time, money and the hassle of guessing what you're going to eat for lunch. And at the end of the busy day, I'll see you over on the next module, where I focus on kitchen organization. I'll be sharing tips on kitchen set up as well as a fridge and pantry organization, so get ready. 4. How to Organize the Kitchen: the kitchen is the heart of a home, and often the area that causes people the most Greek for an area that you and your family spent so much time in shouldn't be a place. It's easy to navigate and well organized in this module. I'll be sharing tips on how to set up your kitchen so that it functions best for you and your family, which includes how to organize your pantry and your fridge. One of the things will cover is setting up. Grab and go areas in the fridge and pantry. Imagine a place for everything and everything in its place. This isn't a Met. By putting practical systems like this into place, I'll show you how it's possible to know what you have on hand to reduce food waste. Did you know that the average American throws out $640 worth of food each year? That's a lot of money. Just think about what you could do with the extra money in your pocket before we dive in. Take a second to ponder the following questions. Are your kids getting food and or dishware on their own during the school year? Are your kids packing their lunches are getting their own after school sacks. If not, would you want them to be able to do this? And finally, do you know where to find everything in your kitchen? Okay, so let's get started in the fridge. First things first clear up a nearby workspace. Next, I recommend pulling everything out of the fridge and categorizing what you have before purchasing any organizing products. Your counter or table might look a little messy, but this simple allow you to see how many categories you have, also giving you the chance to weed out anything that might have expired or that your family doesn't eat. After you've gathered your food and favorite food items, categorize them into different groups. You're gonna want to keep similar foods together. So, for example, drinks yogurts or squeeze snacks, fruits and veggies, sandwich making items and other treats. Now it's time to put your cattle raids into their containers and labelled up by using separate containers. It will be much easier to see what you have in a glance, and it also makes cleanup a cinch. Clear men's were great as well. If you're gonna add bins, your fridge use an option that doesn't include a late for easier access. Also, make sure that you label the containers clearly so that everyone knows what's inside. You can get creative besides using your handy label maker, considering using chalk labels or markers to give your bins that sweet vintage touch. Or you could add some possess color from inks and Braatz. Be sure to use a non permanent option so that you can swap out your label in the future. If you choose to use your container for something else, next, we can start putting everything back into the fridge. Before you do that, though, you're gonna need to clear off enough shelf space for your containers and wipe everything down Jews a shot that that I level inaccessible for even the smallest family members inside your fridge. I've used one of our doors for this purpose since its long and low, but if you don't have one handy, adding been to a shelf is a great option. If you can try to address the shell pipe and you're afraid to accommodate your products, this may require a little creative problem solving, but it's worth the effort to make everything fit while also ensuring accessibility. And before we leave the fridge, let's take a peek inside the freezer. The freezer door is the perfect spot for lunch box ice packs. Make sure they're easy to reach. The next area of the kitchen we're gonna talk about is the pantry. I have a lot of clients were mortified to show me what's inside their pantry and actually what it looks like. They're usually packed to the gills, and it's like a mini avalanche. Whenever the door opens. It can be pretty easy to fall into the routine of putting pantry items away, where there's room instead of actually where things belong. I falling prey to this, too, especially when I'm hung in a hurry. If I described your pantry, don't worry. We're going to get through this together. You won't need to wear a hard hat ever again, even when trying to get to your sacks. I have pullout open drawers in the lower part of my pantry, which makes it super easy for my daughters to simply pull out the door and grab with baby. I'm a big fan of this style door because it prevents food items from getting lost in the back black hole that exists in the back of bliss pantries. You know what I'm talking about? Like the bridge, you want to place the most accessible items on shelves and or indoors, they'll be easy to reach for everyone in the family. If your pantry its open shelves and I recommend using open bins or baskets, be sure to use containers that can slide easily in and out of the shelf and avoid products of land so that you can grab and see what you need when you want. Clear bins and baskets will also allow you to see what you have so that you never went out of your favorites. Are you ready to tackle the pantry together first? Think about the foods your family eats every day. Place everything on a large, clean work space, as we did with the bridge. Make general categories based on what you have, and don't worry about getting to particular with your cattle raisers yet. We're gonna start broad and then narrow them. Stop. Here's some good groups to think about bars, prepackaged bags of chips, pretzels and crackers, nuts, cereal, cookies and juice boxes. Now we're ready to make sub categories for each group. Let's take the bars as an example, we can separate them into cereal bars, granola bars and nut bars. From there, we can take an even deeper die by categories in the bars by type and brand. Once you've done this, it's time to choose some containers to put them into. I like clear prosecutions that are available at most from stores and online, but you can choose whatever selling you prefer. The purpose of adding the product is to corral each of your categories. Then I label to the outside of the bed. This is a great way to get kids involved by having them label the containers themselves. Remember, if you aren't using a container, you can add labels directly to your shelves as well. Next, we're gonna move on to the bags of chips, nuts and cereals first. For these items, you're gonna take them out of their bulky packaging and put them into clear, airtight containers so that you can see exactly what you have while also keeping your food fresh and ultimately reducing food waste. I like to use clear canisters, but others you could use are airtight containers or even canning jars. There are a lot of options out there. Once you've selected the right container, fill it up and add a label. I recommend using a label maker or even stick on labels. This is another job that your kids can actually help with. Once you have everything in their containers, it's time to put them back in the pantry. If you have adjustable shelves, take a moment to change the height to make sure everything fits. This may come as a shock, but I even have a strategy for pantry storage. By keeping categories of food together, I never have to search for what I need. I've dedicated one ropa cereals and another for bars and other grabbing go sacks. As you can see, everything is open labeled and group together easy, right? So here's a quick tip. Do you ever that time you went to the grocery store and totally forgot what you need It has this happened more than once. There is a low tech solution, so keeping a note pad near the fridge and pantry, that's it. Write down what you need as soon as you run out of it, or getting blow. Well, lot. No more guessing or overspending before we leave the kitchen. I want to talk to you about an area that often gets overlooked. The lunch packing supplies like those lunch containers, water bottles, lunch boxes or bags. Today we're going to create a space where you can store all of these items a centralized place to help save time and cut down on the hassle of finding what you need. Okay, so let's get started. The first thing that you're going to do is gather all of your lunch making and packing supplies in our house. This includes things like water bottles, containers or baggies, lunchboxes, napkins and utensils, plastic or re youthful. Now that we've gathered, gathered everything, Let's take a look at what we have right off the bat to start anything that has seen better days. So get rid of water bottles on her old or missing their tops. Go through your lunch containers to make sure everything has a matching top and bottom and doesn't have strange valves or colors from years of use. Now what should you do with those lunchtime essentials? I keep our lunch packing supplies and adore closest to the fridge and pantry. And if you don't have a drawer that you could dedicate your lunch packing supplies, you can use a shelf in your pantry or cabinet that's easy accessible to everyone in the family. If you're using your pantry or cabinet, you're gonna want to use bends to cry. Everything. I would recommend clear container so that you could see what's in them. You can also use magazine holders on their sides stock water bottles so that they won't fall over. Don't forget to add a label to make finding and put away away your things a cinch. All right, so this wraps up the module on kitchen organization. I hope that once you tackled this, these this area in your home, not only will your family be able to find everything, but you also experience less stress in this area of the home, since everything is gonna have a designated place and the systems are easy to keep up with . Plus, you'll likely realize that you're gonna save yourself money by only buying the things that you need. I'll see you over the next module, where I'm sharing tips for organizing kids basis 5. How to Organize Kids' Spaces: as a parent, organizing your kids stop is probably one of the least glamorous thoughts, right? Organizing consume, overwhelming for a host of reasons like lack of time not knowing where to start. And then when you throw your Children into the equation, I know that might sound. It seemed impossible. You probably heard me say it before, but I stand by the belief that homes do not and very likely will not always be need. But they can always reorganized. An organization with kids is possible as a mom. Two identical twins. I completely relate to the amount of stuff that accumulates when you have Children from the paperwork that they bring home to the trail art supplies that make their way onto our kitchen counter. I'm no stranger to the feeling that kids direct self surrounds us. Their tips the weekend incorporate into our homes to help contain all the stuff. And better yet, weights get the kids involved in the process so that the organization actually sticks. You might ask yourself how all the stuff got here in the first place, how it went from a simple clothing rods to shelve his total. This right life happens Children acquire a lot of everything. Clothing, shoes, books, part hobbies, toys, etcetera. And there's no way to keep up with all of it and keep it on track without a solid organization system in place. Okay, so let's get started in the kid's closet. In order to create a system that will be successful for you and your family, it's important to think about your needs. Identify how you and your Children use the space and figure out what you want for to look like. There are a few questions that I always ask my clients before getting started on a closet. Design for organizing Project first. What are the ages of your Children? User accessibility is key, so if there are little ones who are expected to reach their clothing, it's important to incorporate low clothing, bar's doors and door step souls to make items he's here to reach. Also, chances are the clothing has not been shopped out, and a quick swap hasn't been done in a while. So review of everything to make sure that they're still the proper size for Children is a bust. Tip store can be down and seasonal clothing, and you're gonna want to store that either of the back of the closet, in Clear band or on a shop. Similar to adult closets, the most frequently used items should be the most successful. Seasonally appropriate apparel, school uniforms and easy to grab options should be categories within reach. Next, our clothes kept anywhere else in the house. You're gonna want to cap the clothes that may be stored under the bed or away in seasonal storage. During your review, you want to make sure you get rid of any items there, are prone or damaged. For example, if you were building a closet for your child and know that they have a lot of pants or shorts, consider our consider adding shelves or deep drawers to allow for full of items to be stored. Next question. Who puts away the laundry like I mentioned? User accessibility is key. Well, many system startup rate. Often times they failed because the user does not know how to keep them up. Final question is what else needs to be stored in the closet. When you're counting for what will be stored inside the closet, make sure to think outside and just clothing and shoes. So does your child have accessories, hats, belts, ties or anything that needs a dedicated area? Or are there any hobbies that need to be kept in mind? For example, dance bag sports uniforms and more knowing what items need to fit inside the closet before loading it back in make it easier to create dedicated areas for each category and a couple of things I always keep in mind. Choose adjustable whenever possible. So this is for shelves, racks or doors that could be easily adjusted in height and placement, making it possible to adapt to the changing needs of your Children. Also, keep a donation bid nearby. Any parent knows how quickly kids change sizes, so having a basket available to toss in any outgrown clothing is a must. Once a basket fills up, take that as an indication to make runs your local donation center Next at personality in the basics From clothing hangers to the door polls, there are plenty of opportunities to tie your child's interest into their closet. Choose items in their favorite color or interest, for example, football knobs or pink and purple patter pins to make your kids more interested and excited about organizing their closet. Next time the room setting. If you want to spruce up the overall looks of your closet of the child's closet, you could make a space. It's an extension of your home's aesthetic by tying and design elements that elevate the overall look. I've seen everything from wallpaper and carpeting, custom window seat storage and accessory storage that could really make a child's cause. It not only functional but beautiful. Okay, so if that covers the clothing, but let's now switch gears, the bigger problem. You know what I'm talking about the toys. The same basic principles of organization and other areas of the home are true for kids spaces, and the most important tip for toy storage is accessibility. Creating in a science face for toys makes it easier for kids to know where to find what they're looking for and also where to put it back with her dad. Also, always choose the least emotional areas begin you know your child best, so that could be their closet there, bookshop or even process in games that they haven't been playing with. It's easier to let go of items from categories with the least emotional attachment and then build up more difficult areas like toys and collectibles. Finally, try to make the process spot. It is the parent you're approaching. The decluttering process is something that's negative and just has to get done. That's exactly how your Children are gonna look at it. Try making the entire process more fun and looked up not as a one time event but more of a way of life. Turn on the music, give yourself the goal. Treat everyone to reward afterwards and get up and move. You can make throwing a de cluttered item into a bag that is leaving the game of basketball . I know that organizing kids areas may seem daunting or to dio difficult to take on, but I can tell you from experience that it gets easier once functional systems are in place , that make it easy and possible for your kids to keep up with. I'm willing to bet that you'll see how possible is to create a beautifully organized from once and for all. Tune in for the next module, where I focus on one of my favorite areas of the home, which is the closet. 6. How to Organize Closets: as an organizer. What I found more often than not is that people are less than impressed with their closet space, where their closet is too small, too difficult to navigate or full of too many pieces that you no longer user. Where closets are common area that caused people headaches. Everyone's closets are different. So what works for one person may not work for another. And to be honest, some of the concepts that you see on instagram or Pinterest may not be achievable because of your because your closet is not set up the same way, and that's completely OK. I think that what we can all agree on is that when we see a good looking closet were immediately drawn to how tidy and clean it looks. Everything seems to have a place, and when it looks perfectly curated like it belongs in a store, your closet can look this way. The thing that could be difficult to realize is that the space that is available needs to be your limits. So when it comes to storing your clothing, it's most important to make sure that everything is visible and easy accessible and a great way to do that is through categorization. Creating categories based on how you live will not only make it easier to access the outfit of the day, but makes keeping up with the overall system easy to manage, its created based on how and where they how and what they were. For example, if daily attire includes suits, blouses and props, those items get priority placement in the closet, which means on a level that is easy to reach and see. Then within each category you're gonna break down that category and divide by color style etcetera. Categorizing is a budget friendly way to streamline a closet and enhance the overall look of the space, regardless of its size for design. All right, so let's talk about how to structure storage space in the closet. Depending on the size of your closet, you may be sharing a closet with someone else or have a large closet that needs help maximizing to make it more functional. Remember that you are not only confined to your clothes hanging bar and can think high, low and to the back of the doors on the back of the door. If you use one of the over the shoe door Sorge units that has pockets. You aren't limited to just storing shoes. You can use it to hold hats, scarves, jewellery and small clutches. The most important thing to remember is that if you use it often, it needs to be accessible. I love under the beds George, because it has a great amount of space to store items. But you should not be putting items that you grab for every day in this area because it's going to be a pain toe access and said, Reserve the under the bed storage space for your offseason clothing or less frequently used items. Remember, you're not only confined to your clothes hanging bar and can think high low in the back of the doors. If you are living in that space, there are products out there that can help make you make the most out of your usable space . For example, hanging sweater bags and shelf dividers are a great way to get the most out of your closet and helped organize sweaters, handbags or even separate separate your wardrobe for the week by putting outfits for each day in each of the slots. So let's move over to discuss what to do with our seasonal clothing. Maybe you keep everything in your in that you own in one closet. But if you're like most people and many of those that I know, they swap out their options in between seasons, all right, so I know I'm not alone. As we have had several clients requesting closet organization and refreshes, the turn of the season brings the out with the old in with the new mentality. But in my line of work, I've seen time and time again that it is more difficult for people to practice what they preach, and I get it before you transfer out your clothing, seasonal clothing into storage bags or Ben's. Make sure think about any repairs and clean the items. Afford the packing away. I always recommend using the vertical space, so adding a freestanding or wall mounted shelving is aboard the investment of space allows . I often find that kids gear like bikes, speech, toys, outdoor games are the biggest area that built up over time. Now it's time to load everything back into the garage. Start with the items that you access the least seasonal items and store them on higher shelves or in the back of the garage. Then take the items that you use most frequently daily or weekly, and give this priority space. For example, if you're an avid gardener, then keep your supplies on a shelf that it's easy for you to access without having to grab a ladder or shift items out of its way. As always, we find that corralling, categorize, using sturdier bins, keeping the contents organized and labeling each bench or shelf makes it multi user friendly. Can you imagine your garage, basement or storage room finally organized? Can you picture yourself walking into one of these areas and actually being able to find what you're looking for without tripping over something or having to move something else out of the way? I'm really excited for you to take the tips that I mentioned in this video and put them into action. But don't panic. I have some great options to help make this process a piece of cake. Before we get started, ask yourself. Are we a family of pile er's or filers are Are you more likely to put papers into file folders or pile of entrees? Your answer will help you choose the best paper collection system for your family. One solution is to use an open top file box with vertical hanging file folders that I label based on categories I'll be discussing in just a minute. I prefer vertical hanging options so that papers don't get lost at the bottom of a pilot. Make sure that your file box doesn't have a lid. That way. It would be much easier to transfer things in and out. Another alternative is to use a ball pocket, which can go on the wall next to a counter. You can also use stackable office letter trees. All these options are easy to find online or any HomeGoods, an office supply store like the container store. Staples and Target. No matter what option you choose, include one for each member of your family and another specifically for incoming mail. Be sure to select something that goes with the aesthetics of your hope. If it's going to be out in the open, you at least want to enjoy looking at it. In our house, we use a filing system that I keep on my counter because it's in such a visible spot. I'm reminded to not let the Carter buildup. Now that my daughters are a little older and they're used to this paper management system, they've taken over this task, which is not only easier for me but also gives them some added responsibility. So here's how I keep up with all the paper coming into our home, from the Daily mail to the kid's school papers, I take their folders in their schoolbags and begin sorting of papers by type and assign them to specific categories. The to do category is for things like permission, slips or forms that I need to sign and send back. They're time sensitive, important to act on quickly when it comes to the mail. This includes any bills, and I need to pay or invites that require response. The to read category pertains to items that I need to look over with that don't require immediate action like notes from our school or Simon's that where my kids are rated on for the male. This category includes brochures, flyers or magazines that I would like to read when I have more time. The to file category is for things that we need to hold on to for the time being, like art projects or school science, that my girls are particularly product. Once the folder gets full, we do a once over to make sure we still want to keep what we've included inside the folder and that transfer the contents over tour, say boxes when it comes to the mail. This category includes any important documents that I need to file away for future reference. When it comes to papers, I subscribe to the touch ones principle, which means that each paper is dealt with as a concept. I try not to lead let papers pile up without taking action, whether that be signing them, filing them or recycling them. The idea is to avoid holding on to things that you don't meet, and it really takes two minutes. Managing paperwork takes some patients. Once your family gets into the routine, it'll get much easier. Believe me, a simple system like this one I just described could make all the difference when it comes to conquering paper clutter of once and for all. The fire lesson for this week involves managing your kid's artwork. I love seeing how creative my girls could be, but I don't have enough wall space for storage to hold onto everything that they break up. That's where my command center comes in handy. I like using this as my art gallery where I could hang their latest and greatest masterpieces on a simple bulletin board. Magnetic strips are great, too, and your kids will love picking out fund Magnitsky's as a new piece comes in. The old pieces were taken down. I store, they aren't in a large men, and at the end of the month, my girls I beside which pieces we want to keep, remember, you cannot hold onto everything. If getting rid of artwork makes you break into hives, you can create a keepsake black for each of your child that houses all of their work for the year. When school's out, you and the child go through and decide what you want to keep. All right, everyone.
