1. Intro Video: Hello and welcome to deliberately creative. I'm Stephanie from the channel. Deliberately creative on YouTube. I've been teaching on YouTube for the last four years various types of art. And I am really excited to bring my how to doodle winter designs on cards for you here on skill share. This is a great place to do this type of a class because I can go into board detail and share. Ah, little bit longer format class with you here. Then I can over on YouTube, so thank you. I appreciate you being here and hanging out while we play and explore doodling winter designs for cards. 2. Materials needed: What I have here is pretty much everything that's nice toe have and that you need to start off with. You need something that you're going to drawn now. I'm using Strathmore watercolor paper cards. They come in sets of 10 25 100. I'll put the information on my information sheet for the class. They come with envelopes. It's really quite nice. These are £140 watercolor paper I'm using Detect two way mechanical pencil by zebra pens and I like it. It's got a nice wait. There's metal and plastic on it. It's not too heavy, and it's got these good little groupies. After I've got my little marks, I'm going to need some type of low tack tape. I happen to be using washi tape. I got it in a big, huge set of, like 30 or 40 rolls of tape. It's not super super sticky. It's sticky enough that when you lay it down, I'm just going to put it right on the outside of those little marks just like this. And what it's going to do is mask off that outside edge and make it easier when I am making my images to keep them in the same size. And I want all of my cards toe have a similar look to them. So I am putting this square one inch down and one inch in from the sides. That's why using the cover. That's why using 1/2 of the card makes a huge difference. We have our pencil. We have washi tape. We have our cards. Now, something else that we might want to use would be a kneaded eraser. This is pretty dirty looking, but all you do is stretch it and need it. And the graphite all just sort of works its way in. This one's pretty old, too, so but you see how we're getting to that clean bit now. You don't have to do make the whole thing. What clean? You just need an edge that's clean. So there we go. I will be using different pens. I have the Moloto black liner. This one happens to be a 10.2 millimeter. I have a micron by Sikora, and that is in 03 Any pens. You want something that's going to be waterproof, though, because you never know if you're going to do colored pencil or watercolor for the way you're going to color it in those your It's nice tohave. It's nice to have the watercolor and colored pencils, but you don't have to color in with those you could coloring with crayons, too. It all works, and when you're making that hole in the card, having a craft knife and a ruler really helps to be able to measure in the proper distance and a safe edge to draw your sharp knife blade along. And I just keep mine covered whenever I'm not using it, that's it. That's all we need, really. It's something to draw with, something to color with and a surface to do it on, maybe an envelope to send it off. If that's what you plan on doing. So let's go and make some fun Art 3. Make the template: so getting set up to do your doodle cards Now, one of the things that I found really helpful was to use a piece of the same card and cut a three inch square out with a one inch border around it. And if you're comfortable with using your ruler and a craft knife, go for it. Do that I have. In the resource is section a printable PdF that has this template with the cut out for the window. This template fits thes cards perfectly. All you need to do is cut out this inside, and the easiest way that I have found to do that is to match up the corners. You can see through this paper, and you can put a little crease in it. It's fine. Just match up your corners in your sides and then do it again. Matchup the corners and the sides and then just kind of look at it. Make sure it's matched up. Looks good. And then you can cut out this inside piece right here. Just a short cut and another shortcut, and you have your template. Now, what I would also suggest is full. Those old lines back the other direction, so fold them opposite just to flatten them out. You can leave it big on the whole sheet of paper with the materials list and the there will be thumbnails of the designs that are in this class also. So if you're offline somewhere and you just want to play and doodle some cards up, you have your little reminder pictures that will be on that. Pdf that you can download from the resource is tab. There you go quick and easy. 4. Set up the cards: So to get this card front already with the washi tape, I'm going to take my cardboard or card stock here. Template, Set it down. I'm going to make a little mark in each of the corners and a little spot in the center, on the sides just like that. You're really not going to be able to see this. Very well. Let's see. Can we get up here so you can see them? Who? There, Right here. You can kind of see the little dots. Tiny little dots. You don't want them to be super strong. You want to be able to erase them easily. So then on the outside of those dots, I'm going to take peace. Washi tape. This is any low tack tape works, and this is making the framework that we're going to be drawing inside of. So there's a dot there. Artist tape works, drafting tape works, masking tape that you have, uh, put on, you know, pressed on to your T shirt or something like that. That works also go what the washi tape looks like. Doesn't matter. It's not staying on there. And that is all you need to dio have your cards prepped and ready to start drawing and coloring and painting on. Let's get started with the first design 5. Your project and bonus: what's the project? You say the project is Grab a piece of paper and something to draw with. Follow along as you go through the lessons and just doodle. Try drawing out some of these designs and see if you surprise yourself. Remember, we're drawing just one line at a time. Were doodling one line at a time, and nobody has to see your doodles if you don't want to share them. But I'd love to have you take a picture of your doodle sheet and share it to your my projects page on this class. Easy is that, and as a bonus lesson and as a bonus project, you can do the actual card. Take a picture of it, share it with us before you mail it off to somebody that you care about. That's it. Thank you. 6. Cute snowperson part 1: All right. So getting started on the snowman, this little guy is super easy. It's basically, uh, 2/3 of a circle. It could be whatever size circle you want it to be. Here. I'm using that detect two way mechanical pencil. I'm really enjoying this pencil. It's a 0.7 or 07 lead. It's a 07 lead or graphite. There we go. All right, So basically, this is the top of the hat coming all the way down and the circle. So right here, that would be the top of his head. We're going to come down about halfway and make a line going across. That's going to be the bottom of the brim of the hat. Then we're going to bring a line up. However thick you want the turn up on the half to be and a parallel line going over. You can now round off those corners if you want Teoh and you could make it a little bit fuller right here over the top. Super easy. I'm going to say that hiss scarf is just a tiny little sliver right here, and then I want the end of his scarf coming out of that sliver, and I'm not going to see where this other end is coming from. But I want the other end of this scarf coming up also. See how easy that IHS We're just about done laying this in and we can grab our pen and start doing all the rest of the stuff, or we can put the eyes and nose in for the pomp home on top of his hat. I'm just making some almost wedges of orange type of look, making those pom poms look like they've been out in the weather a little bit. So it's a little bit more, um, chunky pieces. This sort of stuck together a little bit for his face. I think his nose is right about here, and I'm having him look off the card, so I want his nose to actually go off the card. It's an open triangle. If I closed it, the point of it would be out here somewhere. His eye on this side is going to be much bigger, and you're going to see just a little bit of the I on the other side, not much, and then for his mouth. It could be rocks. It can be buttons. I think I'm going with buttons. They could be different sizes. Somebody rated grandma's button box. So first it's just a circle. Then I'm making a little wedge around the outside on one side, and I'm staying consistent so that you can see that that thickness is on the same side. Now I'm going to see a little bit of a thickness in here just because this button has a rim . And then there's the dots. That one's a flat button. I'll say this is a flat button. This one might have that type of button where it actually looks kind of like little ninjas . And then his eye is a big button right here and right here, and this one's going to have a bit of that rim around. I think that just makes it more fun, and then you're only going to see one dot for that one, and I'm going to round off the end of that carrot. I'm not too worried about where my pencil lines are right now. I'm going to go ahead and and kid in. I'm just going to be going over the line so this will be in speed video. So catch me back in just a second. He's been quickly lined in. I'm going to go ahead and erase, and you can see some of the lines overlap. Some of the lines didn't follow my pencil. It's OK. Every single one of these cards is going to be different. They're all going to come up with their own character. And the more detail you put in, the more you'll disguise those little places where your lines over shocked. And I'm going to go ahead and put some color on here also, with just a little bit of either water color or color pencil. I'm not sure yet. Haven't decided that. I'm just gonna go in and start putting some details in here and there. You know, this is where those chunky bits of yarn sort of overlap. Put some shadows in those deeper spaces and basically this is just time to doodle and time to play. Take care of yourself, you know, doing things like this, especially leading up to the holidays, the winter season. It can get a little bit crazy. People are busy. Was so many different places to go and people to see So let's just take a few minutes for ourselves, recharge your batteries and enjoy just doing cute little projects. Yeah. 7. Cute snowperson part 2: huh? All right, Now we're going to take that little palette of colors and we're going to choose some cool colors and maybe one nice, bright, bright color for the dots. Maybe a bright yellow for the center kind of light, some of snowflakes blue to shadow the snow. And, yeah, we're just gonna play with it and we're going to see what happens being the stand palette of 42 colors. And I'm not mixing colors. I'm pretty much just using them like pens like markers. Almost so. I'm just grabbing a color, filling it up on my little water brush. It's just a inexpensive little water brush. And let's see going to take and get some shadows in on this little snowman. Super simple. Where would there be Shadows, Shadows to be on the edges. Shadows would be or like around his eyes under the carrot. See, I'm not even adding more paint to this. I'm just using that first initial amount of paint. There we go. Just like that. That's pretty much all the Blue Shadow might even work a little bit of that more back away is pushing it out of the way a little bit So this the Strathmore watercolor card? It comes with envelopes. You bite in sets of 10 25 100 to suit your needs. I think I think I am going to go with maybe a brighter color for the for the centers gravel . A little bit of that bright yellow. So then it's kind of like lights or sunshine or whatever you want it to be. - So now comes the fun. It's always fun to peal with tape off and see what it ended up looking like. I love the sharp, clean edge that you get. I do have some little pencil marks that I will have to erase that we're marking where the tape needed to go. But I'll do that after it's completely dry. Look, sweet little part. Let's have some fun. One down, three more to go. We're going to still have more fun. Keep an eye out for the next lesson. 8. Shiny lights 1: I am ready to do another card. It's already prepped with the tape, and I've grabbed my pencil again. I want to put a little bit of a bow of evergreen coming in. What I want to do to start off is go ahead and get my vow put in. And this is like the tip of the evergreen. So you've got a few lines coming across, uh, branches on Evergreen's. They come down and they have end up in little splayed like almost like hands like fingers. So we've got the little tips coming off, and that's pretty much what I want. Maybe I want that line to be up a little bit higher. Let's see. Oh, yeah, that works. That works. I think the one that's up here a little bit higher, I want to. These are not going to be balls thes are going to be lights. I need to leave myself some space for the lights, so I'm just giving myself some little placeholders. So before we go to the pen, I want to get a few of my little pine needles put in these air sort of thinker. They're just sort of there just stacking in. And what I want you to see is that the needles are growing towards me this way. So they come down the branch. Sam was that little stem e bit of the branch come this way and maybe all the way off. They come down the branch, they grow out towards the tip and see this. I'm stacking them in. But by leaving those circles where the lights are, I don't have to worry about where these little lines are, where the little needles are going on. Look at that. We're just going right off the edge. Superfund super easy. This one is going to be pretty quick. I am going to draw this in with my black pen. It's fun to put the lights in with water color. And I'm just gonna make up another one coming down this way where that light would be attached. And these don't have to be perfect. And they're probably not exactly the way they're going to end up when I do them in with the pen. But they're pretty close. Maybe a little bit more sparse up the branch. I think that's enough Now. I'm not going to draw a circle for those lights, it's are going to beam or an impression of light, so they're going to have drops of color and they're going to glow. And then we might put a little bit of detail after their dry. But I don't want to draw the lights in. So that's what I'm leaving a circle just so that I don't put the pen through it completely . I want to leave me some light and I'm not going to draw the stem in for the branches themselves. This is going to be much more impression. Then then, riel a little bit of the stem back here. The branch that's about it for that. Then we're going to just start working our way down, and by working down, we can fit thes little pine needles in around the spaces, and it's almost like bricks, you know, you just start fitting them in as you go, and these were just long, skinny, overly shapes, and it gives you a really nice effect without having to do a ton of details 9. Shiny lights 2: So now I want to go ahead and put some color in, and I'm doing it with my handy dandy little watercolor palette and a cheap water brush. This one is actually really small, but it works really well. Is a little traveling water brush. I want to put some lights in. First. I want to get those colors in. So then, when I put the color for the pine needles, the color sort of overtakes or blends along the edges. So what I want to do first is go in and wet the paper in those circles in those areas where the light ISS, where it's gonna glow just pre what, the paper in those spots. And you can kind of see how the paper is glistening. That just means that I got, um, got it wet in the right spots. Maybe make it a little bit more wet. I don't care if it goes over the pine needles a little bit. I'm going to drop some yellow on a couple spots. Maybe those Ooh, that's nice and bright and a little bit of red in a couple spots. I just touched and I'm letting it sort of bleed out. There we go. And let's see. I have a spot there. Very primary colored on these these lights here. They could be Christmas balls. To think we're going to have that. You know how you end up with one light That's totally different color. We're gonna grab that one totally different color. Maybe we'll tuck one back here, is it? All right. So now we're going to go ahead and pingtan the pine box, get those little pine needles put in. So I want a couple different greens because I am not going to be doing this as a realistic pine bell. And I'm not going to worry about my light and dark so much. This is more of an impression. The pen lines are actually the the things that are giving us our light and dark. Look at that. You want to find things that you can do quickly If you're making hand handmade cards who too much too much water see things that you can do quickly things that you can different colors. And once the area is wet, if you put color down, they will bleed a little bit. That's fun. That's the the magic of the water color. Oh, this is looking really pretty. So I think what we're gonna do is come down. So this is my base. And there's the light. That's the base. And there's light. They're kind of like little flame shape. Look at that. We're just putting lights on those spots. I like this again. It's peaceful. Easy relaxing. He and then we're gonna give them little highlights of this white pen. This is the again. That signal you nibble. Um 1 53 give it just a little bit of some shimmer shows a really well, on the darker colors. He What do you think? Go in and put my little signature in here. Let's see. I think right over here. Now we're gonna pull that tape, pop and see what we got. E. I like that where we are. All right, we're going to try something. I'm going to use a little bit of the ceramic coat, glitter ice, just a just a drop of it. And, ah, ball and stylists to drop some glitter onto each of these because the glitter actually will shine. And the glue that or the acrylic medium that it's carried in, will be clear, so we'll see how this goes. Should be fun using the ball in stylist. I could get a glop of the glue glop of the glitter, and this is a fun way to do glitter without having that glitter, sparkle, mess all over everything. And it doesn't peel off or shed in your card. And the skins is a little bit dimension without changing for the wait of the card also. Oh, that's good. That's good. We're just gonna drop that in there. Doesn't have to be perfect. Doesn't have to feel exactly. I will dry this and show you what it looks like. All right, we're back. And here are the lights. They're sparkly there, shimmery and so much fun. I hope you enjoy this card. Thank you guys so much. And make sure to stick around. There's more to come 10. Candle light part 1: all right. So here we go with another card, and this time it's going to be a simple and yes, this really is simple candle with some pine bows and some winter Berries and these winterberry zehr going to be white. So I'm first going to get my candle in here, and we will have very simply two parallel lines. I like that about an inch or so apart, maybe. Yeah, about an inch. And then I'm going to make a rounded line that connects the two here, the two lines and then we're going to make a little bit of a rounded line going up, and the reason why we want to do that is because we're going to make this look a little bit dimensional. We're going to go in about 1/4 inch from the edge of that top round and make around it lying. We're not going to outline the whole inside here, but we are going to do it most of the way around, and that's too far over. I want that to be out here a little bit more, so when you do that, I like to kind of clean up as I'm going along just because it helps me to remember what I'm looking at. Then I'm going to make another sort of rounded line. You see how we're starting to see into that candle space? This is where the wax would be pooling and coming up from here is the wick. And on that wick, we will have aflame and this flame will end up with a couple layers of color. It will be darker, Orrin G right here and then as it goes away from this hot part of it, it will go out to being more yellow and then kind of clear. There will be a little bit of some line work on that, but I might put the line work in after we put the color on. I don't want the watercolor to go over and seal the pencil in, but for now, what I want to do is get some of those drips on and the drips air really easy because you're just going to think about wax. It's sort of rounded, so there shouldn't be any sharp edges except in places where it hasn't ever melted. So we're gonna go over the edge and then come back up and we're gonna go roundy round and sort of come into this edge here. And then I'm going to make a couple more Trippi's and maybe come around and go. One more may be a long one long drip right along that edge. See how we just softened that up? We want to know where that edge is, but we don't need it to be strong. What I mean by that is you don't need to have a hard edge right there. We don't really need that to be that hard either. But that's going to get worked out when we do our coloring with the water color and under this edge here is going to be a shadow. So I just want to remember that there's a shadow running along there. I'm going to remove most of this pencil, but I want to know where things are. All right, so right now, drawing in winter Berries and I drew way too many. So you're going to see me draw these in, start drawing in the pine bough, and then you're going to see me a race. It's just the way it goes. Sometimes I think I'm going to take out some of those Berries. It's so maybe we'll have one here. One there. I'm going to scatter them around a little more. They're not Holly. I don't want them quite so prominently placed, I guess where I want them more prominently placed. Here we go. Here we go. All right. So you know, sometimes you just have to work things out. And this is sort of a very vintage styled card. Good to go ahead and think this in really quick in the spaces where I don't want it to be a hard line. I'm going to doom or with sort of dots just remind me or broken lines. There's going to be highlights and shadows going on where I want it to be a hard line. I'll go ahead and make a hard line. The edge of the drips might be a little bit harder, and actually it's running down the side of that candle there, so it's going to be a little bit more straight, and then it will be wobbly as it's going out away from the candle. There we go and then take a little crookedness in that wick right there. Make my candle little whiter like that. And then I'm going to do sort of the bottom edges and the div it of these winter Berries with that one a little smaller. Maybe that one a little bit bigger. Whoops. I went all the way around. Oh, well, you know you sometimes your hand just decides what it's going to dio. And now I'm not going to go all the way around all of them. I'm going to go ahead and get some of these A little pine bough branches put in pine needles not going to do all of them either, because I've been enjoying putting some of these things in just with the faint. So we're just going to get a few things in here just like that. And it's going to look a little bit funny when I take the pencil lines away because those Berries air going to pretty much disappeared except for those bottom lines that I put in. But look how easy this is. And you see, I'm really not being fussy with where these lines air going. I'm not putting any outline onto the flame, so when I erase, the flame is going to disappear. Also So I'm going to use theme kneaded Eraser and just go ahead and the race. I do have a white pens that I can use to put highlights back on with. Look at that. That's kind of cool already. 11. Candle light part 2a: So I just went down some of the stuff. If it's on my palette up here, make it into kind of a neutral, put a little bit of blue into it, and then I'm going to clean my brush off and I'm going to just drop some water on here and wet the background. And I just realized that I went right over my flame area, So I'm going to get some color dropped onto the flame. Also found some yellow. I'm going to go ahead and just get some yellow on here so it sort of bleeds out a little bit. And then I'm going to take some of that some of this neutral that I kind of mixed up. That was a a bunch of different colors, and I'm just going Teoh, drop some of that in here around the outside and even a little bit down here around where the leaves are going. It's light enough that when I put my my greenery in, well, that works really well for the around the Berries to to give me the shadows. Oh, sometimes you figure things out as you're teaching other people, and that's what I'm doing here I'm figuring this out as I'm teaching you. I like the ability toe learn as as you're working. I've always been a person that wanted to do that, too. Have that opportunity to learn things as I'm sharing information with others, just dropping a little bit more solid color in there. Maybe a little bit of this orange closer to the flame, letting it just bleed out a little bit. I'm going to go ahead and just start putting some of the greenery in and allowing it to blur out a little bit. If it touches some of the wet See going like this, if it touches wet paint, it might blur the lines a little. - I need to dry this so that I can do more work on the candle itself. All right, so I want to start working on the candle, and I think that this candle is going to be a mostly reddish color. So I want to go ahead and put kind of a pink undertone so I can get some drip ege going. So we're going to go ahead and pretty much pink this up and then we'll take some other colors in to give highlight and shadow, and I'm going to sort of work around those green green bits here not to not work. I'm not being a slave to it. I'm pretty much just dropping my color in and moving it around to the best of my ability. One of the things I've noticed with the watercolor and such is that the more you use it, the better you get with it. So the more more use it, the better. I'm going to get more comfortable. I become. Here we go, the more I start to understand how things were going to move. I'm still very much a beginner with water color. I have used it for years to color in my pen drawings like this, but I am not a pure water color person. I'm not a purist. I butto. I take short cuts, things that would probably drive a real watercolor person nuts. You know, I I use these cheap watercolor pellets because you know, yes, some people are going to keep the card, and I think that's awesome. But if they just smile and have enjoyment in the moment and then after the season is over, they recycle the card or they, you know, put it in a put it in the recycle bin, whatever, or they give it to kids to cut up and use for something. I'm fine with that because, truthfully, it's the enjoyment in the moment that really makes me happy that I get the enjoyment while I'm making it. My recipient enjoys it when they get it, and then you know somebody else might get to enjoy it. Also. Now, I'm just sort of going back and forth here. I've been using these different colors, and there's no color names on the So I'm just kind of going with, uh, two or three colors, getting mid tones, getting, you know, I'm warming up the color here and there, darkening it up here and there, maybe put a little bit more orangey tone inside, just a za reflection of the candlelight. And now I'm I'm questioning if I should have done that, uh, that dotting of line here. But, you know, sometimes you do things and don't really need to do them. Although I do want this shadow under the edge. I'm trying to find the right color. It's not so bright. There we go and then maybe a little bit of a shadowy, maybe a brown or tone there. Sort of a shadowy tone. Not to not too dark, though. I like that color for that. There we go. So I need to warm up this, uh, color on the top because it got a little bit too pink and I needed a little bit more warm. I think what it was as I was, you know, I'm experimenting with my color. And sometimes when you do that interesting color choices happen. You weren't expecting some of them turn out, and some of them don't. But if you pay attention to the colors you're using, you can then go and figure out something new. Take some of that brownie tone. There we go. I think what I'm gonna have to do is just drop a little bit more of that there. No, I'm gonna suck up some of So even though this is a water brush and the you know the barrel has water that comes through it, the water doesn't flow out of this brush unless I squeeze. So I like that. I'm just pulling out a few of the highlights just by sucking up some of the paint, and then we will use the white pen to give us a few of the other highlights. I think that this is looking pretty good. I want to drop a little bit of some darker color. Maybe I'll take some of that brown and get a little bit darker right down in here. Maybe sort of like that. Well, that's looking pretty. What? See sort of getting a little bit of some of this color in kind of antique ing it a little bit. I think I'm mixing a little bit of brown into my into my watercolor. I'm not scrubbing on this paper. I'm just sort of laying the brush down and letting it lift up any color that will come with it. The Strathmore £140 paper. It's nice for these kinds of things for quick cards again, things that you know people some people will keep, and some people won't. It's acid free, and it's a nice paper for that. I really want this darker right down here, just getting a really dark color. It's not a black, it's a it's actually a brown I kind of liken number There we go. So, yeah, my my colors air if I'm not careful, end up going really muddy. And so I need to just speak. Be careful. Be aware, Play with it as I as I want to. But, you know, just know that I don't want to go to too far with it, But I like that that darker brown sort of being worked in here and the sort of the shadows like that we just drop dark, dark, dark and just take some of that brown color. Get this knocked back into the shadow just a little bit so that the light is mostly coming from the light. The candle. There we go. All right, I am. Yeah. I want a couple more Right over here is flick. Look, look, look. We're gonna drive us again really quick. All right, so now it's dry. I don't think I'm going to put any pen appear on the actual candle flame. I'm looking at this going. I might put some of these areas where I ended up with that dot dashed line. Think I'm going? Oh, yeah. There we go. Put a little bit of this. The highlight. There we go that makes me feel better. And then I can even use this to refine some of these little Berries a little more. See like that. This is just a white gel pen. It's Thesiger, no una ball white dope in it is my favorite. It has been for years. We're gonna put a little bit of glitter paint on here. This is the ceramic coat glitter ice. It's kind of a holographic glitter, and I'm just going to use the paint that's in the cat instead of putting it out. And I have a ball in stylists, and what I'm going to do is take the big end, and I'm going to drop it onto the Berries like this and just make thes glitter Berries. The paint that's carrying the glitter is actually clear. It's white while it's wet, and then it's clear when it dry. So we'll have some pretty little glitter glitter Berries here, and I think on some of the highlight on the top, I'm going to drop a little bit of glitter also just because And you know what? Maybe like snow, a little glitter snow falling. We're just gonna sort of sparkling around because we can. Hey, do what makes you happy. Do what you think is going to give other people something to smile about. But the making of the art is where you have your control. You don't have any control over what people think about your art after it's done. So you know, do what makes you happy. I think I have probably put plenty of glitter snow on here. I'm gonna go and dry it off. I will put my signature on here, and we'll be done once we get the tape off will probably see the glitter even better. Signage drawn. I'm gonna go ahead and go right over here. Here we go. Now, let's go ahead and get that tape off of there. This is going to be so satisfying because we got the whole background in there. Also, you can really see the whole thing. Oh, this is looking so happy. I love this card. I hope that you're enjoying getting your chance to doodle and draw. And don't be afraid to try things out and see if it works. You know, a lot of this is all experiments and professional artists and amateur artists. People who love to do art are always experimenting. So let's see what happens next 12. Shiny brite ornament part 1 pencil and ink: All right, So here we go another card. This time I think it's going to be a shiny kind of vintage e styled ornament. And what I'm thinking of is those kind That air sort of shaped like this. This kind of pointed at the bottom, pointed at the top ish. But the hangar is at the top. So let's see what we can do. I do want it to be slightly off center. So you're really not going to see all of the bottom? I do want to see the whole top, though. So I think what I'll dio is going to draw two parallel lines like that. That's going to be where the top is slightly slant those lines there and that becomes the hangar. See how easy that is. Now the shape I'm going to go out and I'm going to pretend that I'm going out all the way on this side and then coming down and it would just start to show up again right here. We're gonna we're gonna make that little bit fatter and then down, on and around, I'm kind of an odd angle. So I need to shift because see how how much higher that IHS. I don't like that. So we'll just work it down a little bit there and around. So this would be about where the center of the bottom is. Come over. There we go. That feels better. That's pretty good. I'm going to use my little eraser and take care of some of these inside lines. It's just so that I can see a little bit better. All right, so I like that. I sort of I like this rounded nous here. I think it needs to be a little bit rounder and a little bit rounder. You could do this, Um, almost like putting a full round oval and then add the little top and bottom to it. If you were doing the whole ornament, you wanted to be pretty symmetrical. It doesn't have to be perfect, though, because remember, it's hand drawn. I would go. I like that. I am going to put sort of a big oval right here and let's see, it's just going to kiss into the edge of the tape. I am going to have to rotate, though. Now if you have something that's an oval that size that you like or if you have a template with ovals on it, go find it. Go find a an oval that fits your shape or put or put a perfect circle. It's a lot easier to find things to draw around to make circles. You know, small jars are a lot easier to find in the round shape. I find that my pencil lines, because I have to draw dark enough for you to see, do tend to be a little bit heavy when I'm going in and erasing. So I'm trying to erase them as I'm going. So I don't put, uh, color over the top of them. All right, so now we have this lovely little shape. It doesn't have to be perfect what I want to do, I'm gonna put a circle in the middle. And one of the reasons why this doesn't have to be absolutely perfect is we are going to go and make make this look kind of like it is reflective on the inside. So we're going to and I'm not breaking it specifically at exact points here. It's sort of in eighths, and then you break it in half again. You can use a ruler. If that makes you feel better, I'm doing it by hand because I want that handmade look to it. And I am going to be going over all my lines in pen. So but I do want to get kind of a breakdown. I'm breaking them again. You see how we're starting to get that sort of shiny bright look on the inside and then the part that really sells this. And I think we're going to do this one with a little bit of water color and then colored pencil. Let's see here if there's a space that looks like it's too wide, I'm just going in and putting more lines. They're closer together in the center. They have a little bit more without towards the outside edge, just like that. Well, that's looking cool now to sort of sell that shiny bit. I think I am going to go and put little triangles and try and landed the top of that triangle on a line. See how how that's going like that. There we go. Uh, one needs to be broken. Once we get these little lines on, it's going to be a lot easier to just throw the pen. It's gonna be a lot easier to get the pen lines on seal. I'm just breaking it down, going around going, and that gives us that kind of up and down shape going around. Mm. Think I'm gonna break that one right there? That line is going to come out. We were just working at. It's This is fun. It's easy when you know what steps you're doing. It's actually really easy. Just follow your steps. This step were putting the triangles around the outside edge and you see, it really is just a triangle. I would let those be farther apart. I guess I want that one closer, though. Kind of matchup. That other edge here and I I might change my mind while I'm putting the pen work in. And then one more line get split like that. And then I think we'll do some little little vines or something. Get a little more that doodling in like this, and then we'll put little binds again. Something simple. The center of this is very detailed, so I don't really want to put too much there, but I do want sees would be there that one would be there coming down number. Put a few more little Bynes. Well, the eaves. Super simple, Super easy and pretty. And then I think for this one, the background We'll just put one branch of a pine bow just to get a little bit of light. A little bit of a little bit of color in here. Now, this type of design right here. This could be a feather. This could be pine branches. This could be just about anything. But for us, it's a pine bow. Oh, that's pretty. Okay, I'm ready to start thinking this in, so I will meet you back here when it's all linked in. Uh, all right now, that's really pretty, all by itself as it is. But when you take the pencil, you see more of the detail and we will be able to put a little bit more something something going on here. I want to go ahead and use the pen and go around and do an outline around that zigzag. I am going to have to rotate. You notice how where the lines are closer together, it looks darker where the lines are farther apart. It looks lighter and I'm just loosely doing the outline. It's not a perfect tight outline. Part of that is just because of the way I have to hold my hand and my head. As I'm doing these videos, you work around the limitations of the materials. You work around the limitations of your space and you end up with something that looks way cooler than you thought you would be able to dio. I love this. I think this one's one of my favorite ornaments. Now one of my favorite Christmas cards. Holiday cards. You know, let me know in the comments. I think what I'm going to dio let's go around the center here with little tiny lines makes it looks like look like it's going even deeper in How's that? You know, little little tricks. Here we go. That's pretty. I am going to go ahead and grab my water color 13. Shiny brite ornament part 2 watercolor: I just have that little palette of border colors. This is I'm basically going to color it in, just like doing a coloring book. I think I want something that's going to go a little more, maybe a little bit. Pinky pink toned. And then I can go in and do some colored pencil right over the top of it to make those fun designs or find Wu. So I'm going to use watercolor to go in and can give my background of the ornament some pink tones to it and shading. Let's see. No, that's to know that was a good color. Let's see. I just have a little bit of ah, palette E space right here. I'm just going to add more water to it. There we go. And I'm not putting this on wet paper. I'm just coloring it right on. Just get sort of a flat color on here. And after we get the color on for the outside of this ornament, I will see if I can find a metallic pen kind of a shimmery metallic that I can use. I just want to get around here. I do have a white gel pen that I can use to put some highlights on Miss Kanda splotchy right now. That's okay. I am not currently a watercolorist. That is why I am using my you know, the cheap watercolors, and we're gonna go around that outside. I do know how to color things. So, you know, knowing that out around those outer edges, it actually might be reflecting the colors of some other ornaments or things like that. I'm not going to put green on it, because Green is sort of a compliment to this red tone. But I might go ahead and drop a little bit of some blue around the outside edge. Let's see. How does that go? I like that. Maybe a little bit more. More red, pink tone here. What? It just blend in? Basically, this is watercolor for crafter. Watercolor for crafts. This is water colors for people who just want a color with, um, I'm not super technical. Let's see. Oh, I like that. Maybe a little bit of this purple itoen right around that outside edge darken it up. Just a smidge. All right? I don't want to mess with that much more. No, I don't want to mess with it too much. You need to stop messing with that part. So what I'm going to do now is a tossup, it of green. And again. I have not wet this paper, so I'm just going to sort of dry brush in with a wet water brush. I know, but we're just going to dry brush in a little bit green yellowy green, and then I'll take a darker color of green in, Keep it kind of fresh, sort of sweet. Oh, that's pretty. And then to be a little bit of a darker sort of an olive green, still fresh, it's still bright. Let's see, maybe some of this. I know you can't really see my colors that I'm selecting there. Can we go like that? So I just grabbed a little bit of this darker green up here. I'm just going to touch it in. It's sort of a bright green still, though. Look at that. Just sweet, little bits of color. And then, let's see, maybe a really bright, great center dot of that same red that we used to make the pink on the outside. Oh, that's nice. I'm not even going to fill that in completely. I'm going to let that but that cherry red right there be. I think I'm going to put just a few lines. I'm not being I'm not being precise. I'm just doing a few lines of this darker kind of grade blue into the center because then it looks like it's going deeper in Oh, yeah, and maybe a touch of that up here on the holder. Oh, cool is we are actually going Instead of drawing out more detail on those instead of drawing out more detail on those little vines, we're just gonna put some sparkle on them by using a little bit of this craft paint. It is an ice glitter delta, but folk art and Dechert have glittery clear glitter paints also. And I'm just using a little ball in stylist. You could use a toothpick. You could use a paintbrush, whatever works for you. And I'm just going to draw around on this line. This actually going to give it more of that vintage e type feel you know how they would have glitter on just about everything. I'm just setting that ball into the paint and then using it to draw the glitter on the whiteness of this will fade. It will go clear, which is really nice. It goes clear, but it has almost a, um an antique e yellowy tone to it. So I think that it's gonna be perfect again. This is not, um this is not toe look perfect. This isn't like, you know, dot painting or anything like that. This is just swishing some paint around to get some glitter on, and then I'll go and dry it will take the tape off and you'll see how cute this is. We'll all see how cute this is. So I will get the rest of this onto the ornament just like this. And then, well, like that, make sure I've got enough. So it looks like it's glittery, and I think I'm even going to put some little bit of it right here around the very center. Oh, this is looking so cute. A little bit of glitter right around that center, and then I'm going to avoid touching the wet paint. But I'm gonna take that white pen and just give it a few touches of highlight just like that and maybe couple over here and look doesn't take much. Just a couple. Little top touches make it feel like it's sparkling. All right, so we're gonna put my little signature on here, and now we'll pull that tape off, See? Pull the tape off. Uh, I love that work, and there we go. And look at the sparkle. Sparkling shimmer. The nice thing about this glitter is that it's not going to flake off in the card, and people won't end up wearing very dust all day. Although wearing very dust is kind of a fun thing to do to I'll see you when we make another card. 14. Thank you and review: We've made it to the end of the class. Thank you so much. Easiest Poinsettia - BONUS!: This is the easiest point, Ceta you will ever draw. What we're going to start out with is the center of the point Ceta. And this is where those little they look kind of like little Berries. They're actually the flower. These air, actually the flower of the point set all of the colorful things around it. Those air leaves, they just happen to be colorful leaves. So I'll do a couple more of these little circles. You're just doing random circles. Big ones, little ones, tiny ones. It all works. And if you want to go around and around a couple times on some of them, go ahead. We're going to go in with a little bit of water color to color This so you know your your free and easy to do whatever you want. I am using a Moloto black pigment. It's a permanent ink and it is a zero to. So there you go. Now I've got my circles. Have you caught up? All right, we're going to keep going. We're going to put a Siris of parallel lines and all parallel lines are is two straight lines next to each other long ones, short ones just match them up. These are going to be the stems for our first round of leaves and maybe part of the second round. So there we go. You're putting them on randomly. You're not worried about matching things up, except for making sure that your leaves have two lines. Now the leads on a point Ceta are pointed there. They're very long, sort of tapered pointed leaves. So I'm gonna go ahead and do a long, tapered pointed leaf, and I'm going to go around and do the three or four of them without worrying about if they overlap. Now, look at that. I just drew right over this tape. This is a Strathmore card pack card. It comes with £140 paper watercolor paper cards that are five inches by eight inches about and they come with envelopes in sets of 10 25 5100. So you can do that, or you can just buy some watercolor paper, go dig out some paper card stock or whatever and cut it so that you have the size you want . I'm using these because it's easy. All right, so now we're going back to drawing this we are doing another leaf, and I'm letting those edges be wobbly a little bit random looking. I'm not worried about being perfect. This is Ah, fun way to allow your hand to just do what your hand does naturally. So if your hand feels like you always have a wobbly line, as long as your line is wobbly all the time, it's just part of your style. So go with it now, some of these might be little or leaves. Now, I have some leaves here, some stems, and I'm going to go up in the middle, go way out, then I'm gonna come back and it runs into this leaf. That's okay. I'm gonna skip, Skip, Skip, Skip, Skip, and then come back and finish it off right here. We're gonna dio another leaf by working around your your point. Settle like this, You are giving an opportunity for random things to happen. You're not stuck. So like this leaf right here, I think it's gonna be a little one. And it's in underneath of everything right there and then this one, I'm going to make it to come over there. It's gonna be a narrow leaf. Cool So now I've got space is here. I'm going to go ahead and put some more little parallel lines. You don't have to put one in every single space. If you see an area that you want something, put it there. I'm going to go like this. And look at this. We are almost done with the main shape of our point set up and I'm letting tips go off the edge. And the reason for that is to allow it to have space in the real world. It lives beyond this little card. See? Look at that. Maybe it will make a couple of them be tiny. Maybe that one is going to be a little bit bigger. Just working my way around going. Oh, I like that. Maybe we're gonna have another one. That's just sort of magically showing up over here, though it's bigger. It's coming out behind there. So maybe that's where the stem iss. All right. And maybe one more right here. That was maybe a bigger leaf also, and then it comes around. I think we've got plenty on here. We don't need any more. So what I'm going to do now is draw through the center of each of these. And if it went off the page off the area, just draw all the way through so that your center line is going out The tip. The central line is going out the tip of your leaf and that way you're leave has some believability. There we go. How quick and easy this is. I love these. I've been drawing points that is all over the place lately just because they're making me so happy Click below where I have all the information. See, this really is doodling. You can make it as detailed or as not detailed as you wish. So look at that. I'm just going along and I'm Onley putting the leaf veins in on one side. Look at that. It starts giving you an idea that these are shaped more than just more than just flat. There's some shape to them. There might be some light and shadow. Now, this one, I'm actually going to put the feigns on both sides. It's really in the background, but I think this one is too. There we go and it says that one pretty much in the background. I think we'll go with that side right there. You can choose how you do this. Your artwork is yours. It's not anybody else's. I'm giving you a skill set. You are the one that's doing. You are the artist. Even if you tried to copy mine exactly. It's still your art in this instance, because you are, you're deciding all the lines. The only way it wouldn't be your art is if you took my finished piece and traced it. So I just ask that you don't trace my artwork or take my artwork and, you know, print my artwork up. But your artwork go have fun, make cards printed up. Share it with your friends. You know, that's that's part of the fun of the holidays. Also the sharing of the love that we have. So go share your love of art with your friends, - and you could stop right here. You wouldn't have to go any farther. But I'm gonna go ahead and throw a little bit of color on here. I'm just using a plain little water brush. Those are the color that I'm just going to be setting my brush into. There's really no names on these colors. I mean, it says, like C 19 c three. That really doesn't mean a lot if what you're working with is another kind of fan palette that looks kind of the same. Go for a little orangey red and maybe some a couple of the greens and maybe the oranges. So what we're gonna do here, I think is a few of these in the background are going to get the green tones, and I am not going to worry about getting perfect coverage, and I will probably be going and picking up some of that color. I am working my way around so that I'm not not putting wet paint. Next toe wet paint. Let's see. I go back there than that leaves. It doesn't really matter. I'm just getting some green around the a few of the ones on the outside. And while that's drying, I'll come back and put some yellow into the center. Let's just go drop a little bit of that darker color into those. Look at that, This point said It is like I said, Not a perfect point soda. It's got some a little wobbles and and things I am going to have to dry it, definitely going to have to dry it. But I think I'm going to drop a little bit of green in around the the center little flowers . And then I will go and dry this and will be able to move on to the next color. We'll go take our lighter, more pinky red and put some of that in. Let's see. And now these pedals are closer to each other in color, so I'm going to go ahead and just start going little ones there. So some of those little ones were green and some of the little ones are red. I see That's a green stem. That's I want this side to be a little bit more rich and then this side just a little bit. And yet I am kind of going all the way out over the tape when I'm doing my painting. Part of that is because I want the margin, the framework to show up as it stops at the tape. So it's going to have a nice, clean white line or a nice, clean, sharp line all the way around. So let's see here, see? And this is actually the side that's gonna be darker on that one. Not beside that. I put the veins on Well, so really, this is like coloring in a coloring book. So much fun to do. And even if your colors go outside the lines, it's OK. It is totally okay to go outside the lines. Oh, wow, Look at that. I like having some of those, uh, slightly faded looking pedals in here, too. - So I do see that I need to grab a little bit of green a couple spots here and there. They don't have to be colored in perfectly, But you know what? It's kind of fun toe to drop a little bit of this color in Woops. That one was next role. Wet Redleaf. Got to be careful. Silly me. All right. I think I'm going to go and dry. This will put a little bit of glitter just like they do at the at the Shops. And then we'll pull the tape off and it will be done, right? So I have a sterling studio. This is a number two bright right here. It's fairly small. It'll be a It'll be a nice size for spreading a little bit of glitter on to these pedals. Oh, the glitter paint. I'm using his Delta creative ceramic coat. It is called Glitter. Oh, no, I just poured it out on top of my card. I will look at that. We're just going to use this paint and get some glitter on these. That was surprising. I wasn't paying attention. I was reading to you what it was. So it's the glitter ice, and it's basically Ah, hologram glitter paint hologram glitter in a clear polymer acrylic base. And we'll just make this work, you know, sometimes things happen and just go with it. I really like this card. I didn't want to scrap it just because I spilled some paint and now is I'm getting down to the end and it's getting to be a little bit thick A little too much of this paint. Still the glitter. I'm just going to start picking it up and pinching it off on a on a towel. There, see? And one of the things about doing it like this is the paint is actually going to seal the water color. Just make sure you wipe off your brush before you go out into any of the areas where it's just wet. Just white paper. There we go. And then make sure that your lines are going with the with the lines that you've drawn. So if you have shadow lines or highlight lines going in a certain direction, don't paint across the paint with, um because you don't really want to have it, uh, have lines of color that air going opposite of the direction that you're that you painted. All right, so now I don't know if you can see that. Oh, there you go. Now you can see it. We're gonna take the tape off. So here we go peel that tape off. You get a beautiful edge. Who were gonna go?
